Default The Cult of Ryl OOC

Hello to everyone who has made it this far and congratulations. Out of all the games I have tried to DM never have I had such a hard time picking a group as I did this time. With that said while we all wait for me to have an IC up and running for the game, I will be answering any and all questions people may have about the Swordwatch Empire as well as anything else that might be important to their character or where they were born.

    Map of the Swordwatch Empire

Map of eight miles around (in all directions) of Angelis Ianuam

Spoiler: All Important features of the Swordwatch Empire to the character's knowledge
    Show

Cor Justorum is the Capital of the Swordwatch Empire (Roughly translates to the Heart of Justice)
Tectus is a Major City (It translates to Hidden, as it is kinda hidden in the shadow of the mountain range (that dark green tile with the mountain and tree shape)
Caelum is another Major City (Translates to Vault of Heaven) and if you look it is in a valley surrounded by mountains on 3 sides
Viridi Palana is the last Major city (The Green Flats, run) and is called this due to being well a flatland, one of the few, non forested flatlands in the Swordwatch empire.

Then we have the port cities
Sinus Tonitralis (Thunder Bay) Due to being close to Thunder's Charge
Novus Portus (Newport) it is the most recent port in the empire, as the name suggests
Lastly is Tetria Port which has the most trade and is the richest of the three port cities, second only to the capital

    Towns
Umbra Monsin (Shadow of the Mountain) It is a huge mining town (thus the mining symbol 2 hexes to the right of it) and was made after the first town was destroyed (the ruins to the left of it in Kurast lands)
Silens Pratus (Silent Meadow) is a simple farming community that is known for its hunters/tanners
Crystallo Nemus (Crystalwood) is a village built next to a waterfall and is very normal. Nothing really jumps out (off the top of my head) about this place besides the waterfall. It is part of the chain however that sends forces to Apicem Geminae to keep it garrisoned at all times. As if the garrison falls the "evil" Kurastens(?) will have almost a straight shot at the capital. It also has acess to the tunnel system of the dwarves who live in those mountains near it (with their own little undercity)
Angelus Ianuam (The door of Angels) is a mining town that is very patriotic. For a small town they make up almost half of the military might stationed at Apicem Geminae due to almost everyone wanting to continue to serve. Those who live in the town protect and defend it with a passion, most aasimar have also oddly enough been born here (thus the name).
New Folium (New Leaf, yes I was in a naruto binge stage) Folium is a lumberjack community just on the boarders of the great forest. Few roads are safe around here due to this forest and monsters and bandits can often be found within for those who care to look. Because of this the empire often has patrols on the main road between its capital and this small village, as while it is small, its artisans are some of the best in the kingdom.
Lenora's Somnus (Lenora's Rest) Named after a famous female silver knight who founded the town two decades ago. She is still alive though old now. Most of the empires farming happens on the rich soil near this town.

Keeps (All keeps are also where you go to get trained in the military)
Scutum Terra (Earthshield) This keep is built on the edge of the river overlooking the town of Umbra Monsin and is often used as a bunker when the mining city is attacked. The keep is on high alert ever since Kurast launched an attack and destroyed Gloriosa in lumine (jewel of light, the ruins looking icon next to it)
Clypeus igni (Shield of Fire) Due to its proximity to the desert it gained the nick name the Flame Keep, and its guards the Keepers of the Flame. Unlike most of the swordwatch empire that fight in the traditional manner (think european knights) they instead have adopted a style similar to their enemies and are the most unique fighting force outside the mages trained by the empire (Desert Wind style specialists would be trained here mostly)
Voxin (renamed after a famous general who was once posted to the keep) Voxin is a unique case. Due to its boarders with Thunder's charge they are often in a mix of open trade with the nomadic centaurs that travel the land east of them, are trying to stop a stampeding charge of a different tribe. The troops at Voxin have learned to tell the different tribes apart by the colors they tend to wear, or the style of their bows. They in truth enjoy fighting the centaurs every now and again though and both sides think of it as a sport of such and hold no grudges against the other when a battle is over often tending to each other.
Valorem Keep (Valor Keep) Valorem Keep has a very important job as it must be ready to move the nations crops as well as its port at any time. Most of the soldiers that are sent here are from other parts of the empire during planting season and harvest season due to all hands being needed to bring in enough food to feed the empire.

Each of the Tower looking things are mage schools (mostly warmage/duskblade, though a few are to more normal types of magic). Mages are sent here so they cannot hurt anyone else in the empire, and their skills can be put to use watching the boarders of the empire for threats where their skills can be best used.

The symbols that look like crossed swords are battles that are taking place at the time the game is going on/in the past/future
The symbol that looks like a knights head with glowing eyes is not for this game
    The shipwreck is a shipwreck
The ruins are ruins (including the one in the water, it was once part of the land until it feel into the sea from unknown circumstances)
Spade and pick is a mine
and the dungeon looking thing is a hidden dungeon

    Show

    Spoiler: House Vellard
    Show
    House Vellard

Current Head of the house is Lord Fridericus Virnius, the rapacious Knight (Currently resides in Cor Justorum) he is the Viscount of Silen's Pratus
Lady Zenoobia Elmindreda Vellard (Wife of Fridericus, maiden name Damodred)
Youngest daughter Child Marilyn (he plans to marry her off when she comes of age to one of the branch families of the royals
Youngest Son Antamonides Triferus Vellard (he is the typical third child of a noble, likes to party a lot and get into trouble. At the moment resides in Tetria Port)
Middle Son Tyndarus Moderatus Vellard (Tyndarus became a successful knight and serves his family faithfully as a holy warrior to the church of Hextor. He however does have a soft spot for his younger brother. His father hopes to marry him to a decent family to help further his goals)
Eldest child Lord Fridericus Vincentius Vellard (at the moment he resides in Silen's Pratus residing over his father's estate and learning how to rule)

    Spoiler: House Swordhand
    Show

Lord Adoril Swordhand (current head of the family, resides in Tetria Port) a noble who earned his place among the nobility through years of service to the empire. He and his wife can often be found helping the port city guards as advisors in special cases. They are devout followers of Heironeous and it is even said their ancestor is a celestial. This is given further proof by the fact both of their children are aasimar.

Lady Eiliries Swordhand (maiden name Tigersoul) Unlike her husband she is a lot less in control of her emotions, though no less a powerful and skilled fighter. Where he is a tactician she is the one who lead she charge. When she loves she loves deeply, and when she fights it is with every part of her body. Because of this she is not often invited to galla's with other noble's, though she honestly doesn't mind this. Believing that most of the nobility wouldn't know what to do if a mage attacked them anyways.

Sir Leoroar Swordhand (eldest son of Adoril and Eiliries Swordhand) Leoroar swordhand is a young man, just out of his military training. At the moment he serves with Tetria Port's guards as a low ranking officer. Even though he has been in the guards longer then his eldest brother he has not risen to captain yet as he has due to his choices while acting on duty.

Sir Jamgreator Swordhand (Youngest son of Adoril and Eiliries Swordhand) Jamgreator is the youngest son of the two however the most accomplished. He looks at his brother's "weakness" as a disgrace upon their family and believes the law has been to soft as of late on criminals and mages alike. Because of his views and great service record he has quickly risen among the ranks of the port cities guard. It is even rumored he will be getting another promotion soon. Jamgreator is much like his mother, ruthless to his enemies and a protector to those in his care. At times he may come across as careless even in his chase to rid the city of crime, however it has been determined he always saves more lives then are harmed so it is normally ignored.

I just added another noble family, this one newly appointed nobles (as its only 1 generation in) and they are located at Tetria Port. I will be making a noble family thing for each of the cities/towns as well as a small thing on the Emperor and his family as the days go by, however where do you all wish to start? I was thinking Angelus Ianuam, Crystallo Nemus, or Umbra Monsin as a starting place as each location is a smaller town, each with unique geographical features that could lead to adventures near or in.

I have no preference. Benedict's crusade could have led him anywhere, so he'd be perfectly fine linking up with these degenerates (looking at you, Joshua) anywhere.

Maybe Umbra Monson? it works for me because it is closest to the border, and it seems the Cult is affiliated with the Dragonborn.

I don't mind. I had Crystal down as a capital city girl, but it won't make a great deal of difference where she's posted with her particular skillset.

She will hunt you down. She will find you. And she will kill you.

Same with Amara. She would have traveled to wherever the game is starting. Who else is traveling from the capitol?

What are the odds the three of us traveled together?
Alternatively everyone else could have been summoned and then the mission handed out, so we all meet in the capitol.

Well, Crystal and Daruk both have an explicit military history (they may have even served together), so thatīs two ends that are easily tied together. From where they stand, Amara is probably a bit of a spoiled privileged brat . Them traveling together would have to be forced one way or another, for example Daruk and Crystal "having been volunteered" to escort Amara to our destination, which given their lawful and military background they could be likely to actually do. But I donīt know what RCgothic thinks?

Amara is from a social class Crystal aspires to. As far as Crystal is concerned it doesn't hurt to be associated.

It's possible Daruk and Crystal would have crossed paths during their mandatory service, but Daruk strikes me as more of a front-liner who's seen actual combat in the war, whereas Crystal got shuffled into the fantasy equivalent of SIGINT, a second line role.

Also he's a little older than her so their services wouldn't necessarily neatly coincide assuming they were drafted at similar ages.

Meri's history leaves much open in the way of where she might start, so I'm also ambivalent to wherever makes the most sense. Cor Justorum makes the most sense for her, but it's easily explainable why she might be elsewhere.

If Amara is nobility, it's possible the two of them know each other to some degree, or at least of each others' families.

I can't really think of any reason why Benedict would know anyone else in the group yet, though. So that'll be fun to develop the character dynamic as the game progresses.

@Fliggl Viridi Plana is the closest major city to the boarder that would have the most fights so it would make sense for a well off mortician family to have their base of opperation there where the dead would need to be tended to a great deal more often then say near the south of the empire where they have open trade with the elves and see little fighting.

I have unspent gold, what would make sense I think is an item of prestidigitation, command word activated, which Amara could use to clean and press her fancy clothing. Maybe a cloth brush or something with one charge per day.

Cost of this would be 0.5 * 1800 /5 = 180 gold unless I made a mistake somewhere. Let me know if this is allowed.

    edit: also what’s the weather?
