Benedict remains mounted and surveys the area looking for any sign that the assailants might still be around, though it's rather apparent that in reality he probably doesn't care. They'd make themselves known soon enough if they were, anyway.

At the quiet whinny of Sigfried, he pats the horse's neck and quietly murmurs, "It's ok, boy. We've seen worse."

Once out on the road, Calendi splits off from Merienda, taking to the skies and keeping an eye out on the road ahead. He calls out as they approach the overturned wagon.

Merienda frowns, hurrying forward a bit to the scene. "What happened here..? Perhaps the ogres are more belligerent than we thought."

She quickly scans around and inside the cart and finds the bodies, and continues looking around for what might have done this.

On hearing the Enchanter's letter explained, Crystal immediately tries to offer comfort to Issarel. "I'm so sorry! Of course I'll help, even if this turns out to be a trap. I can see why you would hesitate to involve the others. We have time to think of something after we get back from the mines."

Being unable to afford a horse at the moment, Crystal chooses to walk to the mines, although she isn't really the slowest common denominator. On encountering the bodies she draws her bow and moves cautiously to check the bodies for any clues, alert for signs of danger.

As you all look around the area, looking for any clues that may be lying around you hear a soft rustling in the treeline near you just off the road, and as you turn to look three figures become apparent to you that were previously hidden due to their clothing. As you turn to look at them they hold their hands up showing they don't want to fight.

As you all go about examining the scene Joshua begins to give the bodies their last rites and do as he has been trained to do all his life, taking his shovel off of his back and starts looking for a good plot of land to dig in for the bodies to rest in the Mother's embrace. After all no one should be left on the road to rot, even if you didn't know them they were people after all and someone no doubt cared about them. Looking among their belongings you find a document stating that they were to deliver this shipment of metals to Angelus Ianuam so that new weapons and armor could be made for the soldiers stationed at Apicem Geminae. There names are signed at the bottom, as well as another name signed at the top. No doubt the man running the mine, a Alberich of clan Eversharp.

    Daruk

"Oh dear..." Daruk approaches the bodies while holding his holy symbol. After the specialists have inspected the bodies, he helps Joshua and performs some swift religious rituals that can facilitate their final transition (that is, assuming they lived decent god-fearing lifes). Focused on this task, he is unaware of most events in his surroundings.

Merienda follows the tracks with her gaze. "Something strong did this. Barefoot. Maybe one of the ogres. But it ran up to the mines in a hurry."

Meanwhile, upon seeing the group of humanoids, Calendi descends to a branch and keeps an eye on them, loudly cawing to get the group's attention. Merienda turns quickly, knowing her companion only called like that if something was amiss. She hurries over to the three.

"Survivors!" The first comment is more to the group, but the rest is directed at the people. "Are you hurt? Did you see what happened here?"

Issarel offers Crystal a ride on her horse. On seeing the overturned wagon and the dead, Issarel is reminded of another body, much closer to her, and unfortunately the cause of death much closer as well. It bothers her, but she assists Daruk as best she can as laying them to rest. After the invoice is discovered she makes an observation.

As Daruk, Issarel, and Joshua try to set the dead at ease Merienda rushes into the treeline following the cawing of her companion Calendi. And as she does so, stopping only a few feet in you notice three figures who were not there a second ago to those of you who were preoccupied. The one in the middle steps forward his hands in the air, a green cloak wrapped around brown leather armor. What looks like a quivers strap crossing from the top of his chest down to the opposite sides ribs. "What, I mean yeah we are survivors." he says quickly recovering as he looks to the seven of you. No we are not hurt, we were out scouting when the attack came and didn't see what happened." he replies smoothly as he looks to the dead bodies be giving the proper rites. "Oh thank you, it would do their families well to know they were given a proper burial, and by a priest of Heirneous no less." he says seeing Daruk's tabard and holy symbol.

Although it is still the first half of the day, it's really warm. Especially, when digging 3 graves.
After the first, Joshua needs a pause. He takes his everful mug out of his backpack and makes a big sip. He removes his jacket and turns to Issarel:
Pardon, if you don't mind... Maybe you can give me a hand? It's easier to remove this chain shirt, with another pair of hands...

That the others are leaving into the bushes, Joshua hasn't recognized.

Issarel gives a smirk, the mug is more inviting than the eye candy though. She snatches it out of Joshua's hand and takes a heroic pull before handing it back.

Sure thing, hero, let's slip you into something more...comfortable., she says with a flirty grin.

As she slips behind him gracefully to undo his buckles, she sees the group emerge from the woods. She pauses, something seems off...they speak of sympathy of the dead, but their gaze hungers for the crates of weapons. She tightens Joshua's harness instead and murmurs into his ear, "Be ready.", as she slips a dagger out of her sleeve, concealed by Joshua.

    Daruk

The way the conversation around him seems to turn ill forces Daruk to pay attention to it. If this turns to violence, he needs to be in a proper position. He scans his immediate surroundings and moves to a position where he is pretty much in the middle of his allies, having the shortest possible lines to provide aid or protection. He does so without drawing a weapon or other hostile displays, hoping this situation might still diffuse.

As bow and spell are prepared against the three the apparent leader seems to shrug. "Well I guess you caught us, no point in lying." he says putting his hands down and signaling for the others to do the same, though they seem to be a lot more on edge, keeping an eye on Issarel and her magic with what appears to be fear. "Listen we only came for the goods, and before you ask no we don't know who or what did this. Normally we take a barrel or two and we let the group be on their way. Honest bandits and all I swear. Now if we could all just drop our weapons and lower our spells I am sure we can all come to some arrangement. After all I doubt your friend there would want one of my boys running to town screaming that their is a mage at the mines and have the Silver knights come." he says confident in his assessment of the situation.

Joshua doesn't know Issarels plan, but he sees, that this spell is harmless.

And now, one of the bandits wants to intimidate him? Really? Wohooo, that's a game you can play with two players!

Yeah, sure, call the Silver Knights! I've heard they are fans of effects and tricks! What you are calling “arcane magic“ is nothing more than a gamble. You know, when light shines through glas, what happens? It gets broken, maybe you heard that before. Rainbows and prisms and stuff?
And the point here is my everburning torch and fine glas pieces. Looks like magic, hu?

He bumbs Issarel softly to let her spell fizzle

And now, listen! If we are able to let you believe you see magic, guess what we can do with your minds, too! Just leave and don't look back. Nobody gets hurt, nobody gets hypnotized!
And by saying hypnotized, he holds the dagger of his whip in front of him, like you hold a pendulum in front of somebody while hypnotizing

With the bandits well out of sight and one grave dug you look up to the sky, the weather is clear however it will be another hour before you can properly bury all of the dead here, less time if everyone helps. But that begs the question of what to do with the tipped over cart and its remains once the bodies are done being taken care of? Should you turn back to town and deliver it as the note says, or continue towards the mine, and perhaps whatever it was that killed these people?

    Spoiler: OOC
    Show
It has been three hours of travel so far, this would bring it to roughly 10am if you left around 7am. Making it 11am if you choose to bury the bodies properly meaning you will get to the mine by 11:30am. Thats a two hour lead this creature will then have on you if it did indeed go to the mine. I say this as a reminder not to rush you but let you know if it went in a different direction from the mines it is possible you could lose the trail or you can skip it if it doesn't go there. Choice is yours.

It's long hard work, however thankfully doesn't require much skill as Joshua and Daruk explain how to rest the bodies so that they will rest in peace without coming back as undead. Once the right prayers are completed and the hole finished being filled you each strap on whatever armor you removed before finishing the climb up the mountain to the mine.

By the time you come to the cave entrance you are all sweating as the morning sun is starting to reach its peek. Between the digging and walking up a mountain it is hard not to be a little winded, however at least you have arrived at your destination as you look in front of you and see a cave opening supported by lumber to keep it open. No one seems to be outside, however the sound of miners working can be heard if one gets close enough to the entrance.

Phagh! Was no magic, just simple stage trickery! Still, we may be able to use that reputation to our advantage if we decide to infiltrate this cult or further inquire about them.

    Daruk

"I agree," Daruk says as they are about to enter the mine, "we need to be both hasty and careful now if we want to help the workers." He grabs his shield in one hand and a torch in the other while seeking out a place in the middle of the group. "May Heironeous be with us."

    Amara

Amara watched the others’ reactions to the ‘magic’ quietly, the blue-black flames she could summon to her fingertips with but a thought at the front of her mind. She still had to be careful, even though it didn’t seem as if anyone was willing to turn anyone in after Issarel’s display.

Still, a couple of lights were a bit different than corrupting flame that could kill things at a distance.

At the mines, Amara stepped up to the entrance with the others.

“Are we still able to track it inside?” she asked.
