Gafler ponders a moment. "I've not much experience with casting myself-do any of you have experience with alchemy? Because, you lot!" he addresses the other gnomes. "I need to know everything you know about putting spells in potions. Or anything that suppresses enchantments, or just gives the user courage."

"Battlebrew," one of the gnomes answers.

"Are you insane?" Gafler asks. "Don't answer that-because honestly, it might work."

[Xihirli]

Leflabah shook her head.
"I've no experience with alchemy. What is battlebrew? Are you just suggesting we get the city drunk or is this even more dangerous?"

[Athaleon]

"The old saws about 'liquid courage' didn't come from nowhere." If Variel was joking, his delivery was completely deadpan. "I cannot dispel the effect from more than, say, two people every hour. And only so many people can stand near me, if for no other reason than physical space. If there is a chance this 'battlebrew' can rouse them from their stupor, well, there is much danger that can be justified given the situation."

"Battlebrew is a potent concoction," Gafler says. "Difficult to make, especially in mass-volatile, even. But it gives supernatural speed, strength, and courage-alongside recklessness and ignorance of danger. It's the kind of thing you dirnk when you're desperate or suicidal-but the first of that might apply here. If there was some way of making it less potent... Just enough to give an edge against this depression, that might do the trick, but I'm not that well versed in alchemy. Garl!" he addresses one of the gnomes his wife brought. "Variel here will cast a spell on you-don't worry, it'll make you feel worlds better." He nods, and looks to Variel.

Variel nodded and cast Dispel Magic on Garl, making sure to stay close to both him and Gafler.

Garl seems quite a bit better, after the spell is cast. "But... What-"

Gafler cuts him off. "Worry later, brew now."

"Variel, how are you for more of that? Should you rest?" Leff asked. It struck her that she wasn't very familiar with the way Variel's magic worked.

[Athaleon]

"I will need an hour's rest to use my most powerful magic again," Variel confirmed. "I won't have to lie down or anything like that, but I must avoid physical or magical exertion."

The gnomes are, at this point, getting deep into technical discussions. It will likely be a bit before they have a good answer.

As the hour goes on, you can see Gafler and Garl begin to slip back into the malaise, Gafler being hit harder. As they feel it coming on, they start sketching out plans and blueprints.

Garl turns to you all, after about forty minutes, and says "Alright. We've got a basic blueprint for a sort of potion dispenser-it'll dispense a thin mist of whatever liquid is put in. We can try for Battlebrew, if we need to, but that'll be risky-it'd be better if we can find a way to get your spell that countered it into potion form. Ideally, it'd work with only a few minutes of application, but we can't be sure. I'll get Zantix-she's got the most experience with spell-to-potion conversions. If she can't make it work..." he trails off. "Right, Zantix time," he adds as he stands up and heads off.

[Xihirli]

"If your spell, concentrated, only worked for forty minutes, how long will the mist be able to give these people their fighting spirit? Are we to fight in a war where we only have an army for forty minutes? And how long will it take for the malaise to effect us? We need some way to push the advantage while we have it," Leff insisted to the others.
She then spoke to Gafler.
"Please try and focus through the malaise for a moment. You say you can put spells inside of potions. Could you do the same with Kadör Ahash... ah, Fireball? And could we take a disperser out into their army and then disperse that?"

He thinks. "I... Possibly? Such a violent spell isn't what's usually done, but it could work as some kind of firebomb, perhaps..."

"I like the idea to make them explode! It sounds like the least risky too, if we can throw them to the other side of the wall without damaging it" Eris says "Think we could make them fall asleep? Maybe an explosive sleeping potion?"

He thinks. "I... Possibly? Such a violent spell isn't what's usually done, but it could work as some kind of firebomb, perhaps..."

"Hmm. Perhaps Zantix will have more clear answers." Leflabah looked up and around a bit, impatience causing the inferno within her to manifest without as some sparks that exit her nose. She could be calm. She would be calm. She was a representative - no, a third - of the Order of the Shining Plume.
"When do you expect her to be here, anyway?"

Gafler shrugs. "She's been as affected by the malaise as the rest of us. Who knows?"

[Athaleon]

"If that is the case, she might not deign to come at all. I may have to go to her then, and you all along with me," Variel said with an edge of irritation.

[Valmark]

Eris looks between her two companions, slightly worried.
"Then how about we move instead of waiting for her? It beats not doung anything. Please Gafler, lead the way" she says, gesturing towards the exit.

Taking a moment, Gafler gets up, and leads you out of his home. It's a short walk to Zantix's home, where you can see through the open door Garl talking to a gnomish woman-presumably Zantix.

Leflabah leaned inside the building and knocked on the door from within.
"Hello, are you Zantix? We were worried that you were being overly affected by the malaise... you have been told about that, correct?"

[JNAProductions]

Garl looks back. "She's been hit bad, yeah," he says.

Zantix looks over, and you can see that yes, she is in quite a bad way. Her eyes are red and puffy, and she just shakes her head-not really to say no, but more to indicate she doesn't want anyone else around.

Leff laid a hand on Variel's shoulder.

"I hope you managed to rest up and regain your power. Hadrackah."

"It must have been an hour by now. If not, then very soon." Variel turned and kneeled down to address Zantix and ignored her mannerisms. He wasn't sure if talking would help, but he decided it couldn't hurt. "I am Variel, a Knight of the Shining Plume. Zantix, the city is besieged and your knowledge may help save it."

If she seems as unreceptive as the others have, Variel will cast Dispel Magic, provided he has his Warlock spells back.

"Your colleagues and I plan to counter the malaise en masse through conversion of spells to alchemical substance. They tell me you are the authority on such devices."

"They made the device," Leff recalled.
"Can you put the spell my friend just cast on you into potion form?"

Zantix gives you a slightly annoyed, mostly dull stare. "What good would it do?"

[Athaleon]

Variel knew that look by now. "They have the blueprints for a dispersion device. They just need you to distill this spell into potion form." With that, he cast Dispel Magic on Zantix.

Leff was somewhat startled by the reapplication. "Oh, again? Hadrackah."
