I know. That's why it sounds (almost) as lack-luster as calling the main villain "Steve" or "Bob".

First, some names are more intimidating than others. Olaf, Vincent, Boris, these are good, solid, intimidating names. So is Slade.

Second, if a man called Bob did half of what Slade did, you know people would take "Help, Bob is here!" seriously. He could be called Chuckles VonPiggiewinkles and he would still be intimidating. Less so, but not that much.

"Sure, he's four meters tall, weighs an actual ton, can casually throw a pickup truck, and he blew up an entire city and everyone in it, but his name isn't sexy, so I can't take him seriously."

Tell me about it. Olaf isn't particularly impressive in these parts. Name of kings, name of joke characters.

Olaf the Red might have a small problem with you calling him a "joke" character.

None of those are particularly intimidating, IMHO...

Sure... But it still felt like a lack-luster name to give a main villain... I'm guessing they felt "DEATHSTROKE" was too much for a kids' show.

    I present a counter-argument.

Slade is fine. It sounds cool without being too over the top. Someone calling themselves "Deathstroke" is going to have some sort of attention issues you can use against them. Going by name only, a Slade is probably more dangerous.

I've always felt that "Deathstroke the Terminator" sounds like a name ripped from the innermost recesses of a depressed 13 year old's self insert Warhammer 40K fanfic. I can't take it seriously, at all. Deathstroke was ruined for me with one NSFW joke as well, but that's a private connection that I admit isn't common.

The Brain is a very weak villain only in the same sense that Cardinal Richelieu is a weak villain because he cannot outfence a musketeer, or Sauron is a weak villain because he is disembodied.
