If Scruffy can contribute without getting killed, Minrah can, as well.

Not sure why she's along - apparently, Rich has a need of a low-level cleric from a narrative point of view.

Preeeeetty sure Roy is underestimating just how long he'll be affected by that dwarf beer. Or how long it will be until the next encounter. Or both.
A genius is just a madman who succeeded. A hero's just a fool who didn't die.

Does Elan even drink alcohol? I can't remember if we've ever seen him drink.

I dunno, if I had a few days like Roy has had... I'd probably get a drink or two at the end of it as well.

Also, some people like to/need to drink before boarding aircraft to help their nerves.

I'm both suprised and happy that Minrah is coming along. I hate to say it, but I see her as a way to keep Durkon up to speed without him getting his levels back from dying.

Things I'd like to see still in no particular order.

    Durkon getting a good drink
    Sigdi getting a regeneration/cure disease
    Now, Back to Lurking!

Honestly, I think we're done with the Vampires. If anything bad happens to Minrah before the end of this book, it'll probably either be from Hilgya or from some new threat, but I don't think it'll happen.

The most obvious end-of-book stinger is cutting back to Team Evil and establishing what they're doing, and revealing something that'll have a big effect on the next book, probably them finding the last gate (for a while my theory has been that Right Eye's daughter will finally be introduced at the end of this book as the stinger, but I think that's less likely than Team Evil actually finding the last gate)

Being taken out by a stray shot from Hilgya doesn't really bode well for her ability to throw down with Xykon and Redcloak, so I don't see what she really contributes other than a warm body and a few minor heal spells (which Elan can do). I can't imagine her doing much for the crew of the Mechane, either. She's kinda funny, but doesn't provide a strong enough humor role that couldn't be better filled by a main character (dwarf/tree jokes = Durkon, spunky girl jokes = Haley, straight man jokes = Roy, doesn't know the plot jokes = Belkar or Elan). She doesn't have a quest of her own to undertake (and honestly it's a little late in the story for that anyway), and unless I'm misreading, I don't think she and Durkon are going to end up dating. Is she there so the audience of the final book can have some last-minute recapping and exposition provided? That doesn't seem like enough.

I look forward to being proven wrong, but for now I just don't see it.
My running theory is that Rich created her to serve the purpose she served in this book, and then decided he liked the character and wanted to do more with her, so she got to stick around.

I think she's got a distinct comedic function from the rest of the order (her lower level is probably going to be a major benefit in this regard), she's got that exposition/recap utility, I bet that Rich has a couple plot things for her to do next book, and she's just a likeable character who's nice to have around.

I don't think Minrah's a love interest either, but if she was she wouldn't necessarily be Durkon's love interest. Bandana's a prominent side character who's currently single, if Minrah was part of a romantic subplot (which I don't think she will be) it'd probably be with her.

Well, Familiars and Animal Companions are usually targeted less than their proximity to danger would indicate, especially if their masters are nearby.

Hmm....On one hand, if an encounter's CR is 8 or more above her level, she may not get experience at all. On the other hand, if she'll gain experience like a cohort does, that wouldn't apply.

Minrah joining the team is a welcome change of pace.

I love that we get to see Roy and Belkar of all people kicking back and throwing down some beers together. That's gotta be a significant example of just how much Belkar has changed...Roy, too. I'm predicting it will be referred to in a flashback scene.

And Mr. Scruffy laying there in the last panel looking like he lapped up a bowl of fine dwarven beer, too. Perfect.

I think this sentiment would be less about the literal holding of hands and more about the symbolic leaving a part of herself with him. Sigdi has lived more of her life without that arm than with it, I'd give her even odds of having long since accepted her disability as part of her identity and not being interested in being "healed".

Eh, the way these usually work is that there's one big reveal to end the book on.

Roy looking down from heaven at the end of War and XPs

Blackwing talking to V and revealing what he saw in the Rift

The reveal of the High Priest of Hel and that Durkon is not in control of his body

You generally don't need too many pages for that. If Team Evil finds the gate, you'd only need like, one or two pages to reveal that

    You'll fit right in.

Hey, maybe they'll finally be able to understand Durkon's craving for decent beer now that they've drunk some. V seems uninterested though. Can elves not get drunk?

I believe that Durkon picked up the Leadership feat and Minrah is his new cohort.

It fits with the trend that the Order has slowly been expanded with a familiar (Blackwing) and an animal companion (Mr. Scruffy).

Minrah has a narrative role - same one she had before.
She allows the author to constantly recap stuff that he needs to tell us again for newer readers (or those that took a while)

So next book when they start recapping about who Redcloak and Xykon are, he has an audience.

It also gives an option of opening a dialogue with an old character the Oots wouldn't want to go near.

As a random example, if Sabine has a message for the party nobody would listen to her. But Minarh has no idea who she is so she'll have a nice chat with her.

Heck, it could be that she becomes friendly with one of the goblins.

For all we know, she'll probably retire before the battle with the big bad. Possibly go on a short side quest or have to stay behind and heal minor characters (O-Chul and Lien?)

    P.S

Seriously? We've watched Curly run from the fight and had it mentioned several times that she's still out there and people still think that won't affect anything moving forward?

Minrah can contribute a different kind of viewpoint. The crew of the Mechane aren't heroes at all. Minrah is a hero, but at a significantly lower level.

Both she and Durkon are somewhat deficient in their Religious Knowledge; her being with the group could help to cover his deficiency. And even a lower-level character can contribute thoughts/ideas. "'I was wrong after all,' said Gandalf, 'and Gimli too. Merry, of all people, was on the right track. The opening word was inscribed on the archway all the time!'"
