If your PCs met each other
Hi all
Heres a random one technically stolen from a critical role panel.
Q: if your player characters from different campaigns met each other, possibly to carry out a task together or just at a tavern, what would their reaction be like (let's limit it to two)
Mine:
If Kosh (gloomstalker ranger half-orc) met Sindal (divine soul sorceror tabaxi).
I imagine Sindal would just be polite and eloquent like he always is with most people he encounters (he's fond of orcs generally. He finds them easier to deal with compared to say, elves) while kosh tries to ,genuinely but awkwardly, return the pleasantries to varying levels of success. Sindal would find it endearing anyway.
Its sorta like the relationship between the PE teacher and the life counselor at a highschool. Will work together when required , perhaps be friends outside of work.
They'd make lovely duet too. Kosh plays, Sindal sings.Last edited by Sindal; 2019-10-01 at 11:04 AM.

Re: If your PCs met each other
Just going to go off my last two PCs, human Blood Hunter of the Order of the Mutant and my elf bardbarian (Bard 2, Barbarian 2).
I do not think they would get along well. My Blood Hunter is all about self sacrifice and get the job done - throwing himself in harms way, where my elf barbarian is a flighty faker and trying to find himself. Could they work together? Yes. Would they be friends? Nope.

Re: If your PCs met each other
90% of my characters are from the same extended halfling family (the Wrenbite clan) so they'd probably just gab about what second cousin Holly is up to. They're all various flavors of good with only one neutral so I don't see any conflicts.
I have a Chaotic Good human Divine Soul acolyte of Sune who would get along fine with any of the halflings.
I also have a human wizard who is the closest I have to an anti-social character but he's more self-absorbed in his own work and thinks highly of his own worth (often referring to other party members as his assistants) than actively malicious and nasty. He'd be the least fun to hang out with in a tavern but they could get along for the sake of a mission.

Re: If your PCs met each other
If we go with the only two to ever see a campaign to completion...
Prabhu Lakhani was a scholarly, reserved type. An Abjuration-specialist Wizard by training, but also deeply religious (he definitely looked up to his big sister growing up, who became a Paladin as an adult). Generally quiet, respectful, and driven to help and protect others, even going so far as to use Medicine checks (and later Spare the Dying via Magic Initiate: Cleric) to avoid lethal damage to his foes, where possible.
Vladimir Stelioskov was a somewhat churlish malcontent. He had weird, dream-related powers that he didn't like and didn't want (modeled with a third party Shaman class with a "Speaker of Dreams" subclass). He was prone to sarcasm and generally being an ass for no really good reason. He tended to come through for his comrades, but not really from any sense of altruism or concern, but because he was stubborn and hated to lose a fight.
They would not get along, I think. Prabhu would make a polite introduction, Vlad would say something snarky and a little rude, and they'd probably just avoid each other from then on unless there was some reason not to (eg nearly anything that happens on a typical D&D adventure).Last edited by Grey Watcher; 2019-09-18 at 10:31 PM.

Re: If your PCs met each other
I usually write my older characters into my newer characters backstories as minor details, connecting them as if daisies on a chain: The Bard has worked the Rogue, using their fame to distract nobles while the guild picked some pockets & perused for information. Two religious warlocks I made for 5e follow my high levelled Warlock from an older system as their deity. My elven bow wizard has assisted my demon slayer Cleric with an infestation in ancient ruins. And the list goes on.
If I thought about my last two PCs though: Tiefling Sorcerer/Warlock (who I mentioned above) and Half-Elf Druid caster would most likely blossom into a love-hate relationship. They definitely wouldn't agree on their beliefs & goals, but they say different kinds of tension can be.. confused.

Re: If your PCs met each other
I'm terribly guilty of all my PCs being at their core, me in a fantasy world. So whether Rangers, Fighters, or Barbarians they would all pretty much act the same.
They would probably all ignore each other and do some drinking. Then after a few drinks in become annoyingly friendly. And the gods help you if there is karaoke nearby.

Re: If your PCs met each other
My female Chultan Archaeologist Gloomstalker could work with any of my Dwarf or Forest Gnome PCs or even the Earth Genasi easily but being really close friends with the more overtly religious ones might be unlikely. The Chultan “gods” very much make her uninterested in “religion” in general.
Actually as my only female PC she pretty much tries to avoid the whole “friends” thing altogether. Makes any PC deaths easier to deal with you know. With one exception, I play AL games only nowdays.

Re: If your PCs met each other
One of my old characters (retired at very high level after a Tier 4 campaign's completion) is the mother of my current character (level 1). They're on good terms, but it'd be a bit embarrassing.
"Why don't you ever throw us a Sending? Have you made any new friends? What sorts of quests are you doing these days?"
"Mom!"
"Are there any cute boy adventurers? You know, your father and I met on an-"
"Mom! I don't need to..."
"Yes, I know. You're very independent. Did you remember to pack plenty of rope? And healing potions? Check the icebox if you need some food. We have plenty of leftovers."
"I know how to buy food, mom."
"What about multiclassing? Have you considered it at all? What spells are you working on these days? Let me see your spellbook."The battle cry of a true master is "RAW!!!"
I play Devil's Advocate. Why does a devil need an advocate? Because only bad lawyers go to hell. The good ones find a loophole.

Re: If your PCs met each other
Let's see... lorit the kobold: beast master ranger / scout rogue. Young and innocent to the civilized world, she has a mental age of about 10. She escaped after her family decided to sacrifice her to the dragon they serve (don't worry Lorit, it's a great honor). She slowly learns to adapt to living with civilized races with the help of her party. Hates gnomes and dragonfolk due to her backstory, and is just barely getting past that. Developed wings from her time being experimented on. She rides a wolf into combat and fights with rapier and shield.
Meets
Cilus the warforged: homebrew revised warsmith artificer (by kiblestasty) (a subclass that means he builds upgrades into his body). He was a gnome who built warforged for a war. After the war ended in magical nuclear explosions, he and his wife along with the rest of their military group became sick from the fallout. His wife sacrificed her life to seal him into an empty warforged and save him from dying. 1500 years later he joins an adventuring group and fights to stop the reason the first nuke was launched originally.
Uh.. lorit is super curious and she would ask Cilus one million questions.. he's not had a lot of people to talk to so he probably wouldn't mind. Could be a cute interaction like a grandpa telling stories to a kid.Last edited by MagneticKitty; 2019-09-18 at 12:48 PM.

Re: If your PCs met each other
My current PCs are in two different campaigns: Ea is a Tiefling Monk with anger issues, Taka is a Halfling Rogue with a bad gambling habit and too much pride to admit it.
Ea would probably be indifferent, trying to ignore Taka.
Taka would do a bunch of annoying things to try to rile Ea up.
If Ea's in a good mood (or slightly intoxicated) she might make jokes about their height difference (She's 6'2" while Taka's only 3'4").
If Taka's in a good mood/slightly intoxicated, she'd probably try to teach Ea a bunch of naughty words in Halfling.
They'd probably not work well together, since Ea is trying to find a "true religion" and Taka's trying to pay off a bunch of debt (see: gambling habit). Ea would be annoyed at the seeming greediness of the Halfling while Taka would see visits to temples, cloisters, convents and the like as time-consuming and pointless, especially with armed debt collectors on her trail.
They'd probably become the living embodiment of the phrase "Fight me" as a pair.Quotes from my adventuring party:
"They're not really innards anymore. They're out-ards."
"Your lower back burns from the death glare of a dwarf."
"What's Thor gonna do, zap me?"
"Is it drugs?"
"I set my weapons on the ground." "Do you set your brain down, too?"

Hmm, if my
Male Half Orc Fighter/Champion (N)
Female vHuman Life Domain Cleric (NG)
Male Half Elf ArchFey Warlock, Chain Pact (NG)
Female Wood Elf Monk (Open Hand) (N)

All met, the biggest problem would be the variation in levels from 4-14. :p
But if we started them all off at level 1, yeah, I think they'd manage.Last edited by KorvinStarmast; 2019-09-19 at 11:20 AM.

Re: If your PCs met each other
My wife actually had one of her characters kill another one. The system was In Nomine; the characters are Angels and Demons in a Judaeo-Christian modern world. Her regular character was a high-level angel. We took time out for a fun demonic one-shot one Halloween, where they played novice demons in the same place as their primary characters.
Her very squishy demonic character accidentally caught the attention of her epic angelic character. The encounter was very, very brief.
She still wears that "Achievement Unlocked" Badge with honor: one of her PCs killed by another of her PCs.

Re: If your PCs met each other
Let's see...
Fitzbern Imalgo Zal Zaroch Lirrin Elrich the Third, Esquire (aka Fizzle), CN Gnome Illusionist 2.
Lialai d'Vadalis, LE Arcana Cleric of the Shadow 10.
Midir d'Vadalis, NG Shepherd Druid 13.
Midir would view Lialai with immense suspicion and mistrust, as the latter is basically Kotomine Kirei but rich. Lialai would view Midir as a dangerous rogue pawn liable to become a savage animal and murder him.
Fizzle would walk up to the two of them, ask if they had any interest in the grandest heist of stealing the entire Undermountain from under Halaster Blackcloak's nose, and they would go along with it in complete and utter bafflement to see what the heck the gnome was on about.

Re: If your PCs met each other
So many to choose from. This is the most interesting, to me-
Death Cleric Sir Walter Pryce, an ex-knight that served a brutal tyrant with an iron fist and committed several genocides in his time before finally seeing the error of his ways and searching the world for a way to repent for his myriad evils meets Lightfoot Halfling Ancients Paladin Thea, a devoted protector of Arvoreen that's gone through enough horrors to become unhinged in her hatred for those that prey on innocents.
This is a fight in the making. While Walter has dedicated himself to doing good, he's guilty of a whole lot and never hides it. Thea's personally suffered at the hands of people like Walter, and she's snapped and attacked people for less. If Thea hasn't heard of Walter's mission ahead of time (he's progressing as a cleric to gain the power necessary to resurrect every single person he's ever killed, directly or indirectly), she's going to be out for blood. Otherwise, she's still going to be impossibly frosty. She's not really capable of forgiveness.
Walter, meanwhile will be trying and failing to not be impossibly intimidating and talking like a villain. Which is only going to irritate Thea that much more. It was a band of halflings that saved his life after he first became disillusioned with his king that made him understand how much of a monster he had been, and he's always had a soft spot for them ever since. If this did end up as a fight, he's not likely to really defend himself. A just payment for a life of evil, he'd shrug.

Re: If your PCs met each other
My newest character is a house Bjorner (Ars Magica) rat who likes his lab work, people and to stay indoors (very much in that order). Mindinho is Portuguese.
The only other Bjorner I played was Sanji. He's a tiger who's heartbeast form is human so he got here from the other direction as you might say. He's still not entirely comfortable indoors, is socially inept and short tempered and considers study and labwork to be a price for knowledge, power and stuff.
Mindinho is a fairly sophisticated thinker for a young wizard, who can accept others are different who will probably quickly work out how to get along with/manipulate Sanji
Sanji lacks confidence in social situations so will be fairly easily manipulated

Re: If your PCs met each other
Well. That's a whispers bard political spy and a private eye necromancer, both with drastically different approaches to problems and people. The latter was designed to have preferences directly opposite to the former so I could lean into a new character. One of their only overlaps is how insane their insight scores are.
So now I'm imagining them constantly seeing right through each other and getting increasingly ticked off because of it.
"Could we please go just six minutes without you psychoanalyzing my seating preferences?"
"Depends. You gonna stop mappin' out escape routes between waiters?"

Re: If your PCs met each other
My last two PCs were back in 3.5, been a DM since then. The funny thing is that Lydia, my Technomage/Lawyer actually met every single member of the previous party except my first character. She and my Abomination of Strength Half-Celestial hobgoblin werebear saint soulknife had nothing in common and didn't even chat casually.
It's a shame actually. He would have seen her patriotism, strong lawful tendencies, and technological bent as useful assets. Probably did actually, since the DM tells me he was actually using my jerk, mastermind bard as the illusive man-esque resistance leader.
In turn, she suspected the resistance was secretly being run for selfish reasons by someone with entirely too much charisma and no moral compass. Her instincts were spot on. I liked Lydia, she was a good character.
I also once played a clan of Dwarves in a gritty high-mortality campaign. I assume they'd all met each other at some point.

Re: If your PCs met each other
The two characters I have played most recently ... not both DnD, but ...
Well, the short-tempered, vengeful witch who, due to a horrible GM had the love of her life turn in to a completely different person and marry her long-time rival might sit in a tavern and try to drown her worries. (Though I consider simply retconning all that **** if I ever play the character again)
The male DnD paladin who didn't get to actually do much before the group dissolved would silently judge her for drinking too much, but not utter any criticism as he is too polite for that.
Later in the evening, someone would try to steal what little money she has left while she is passed out drunk, and the paladin would prevent them from doing so.
If she actually woke up in time to notice what was going on, she would probably offer to buy him a drink, which he would decline because he doesn't drink and his culture would view it as morally questionable for him to accept such a favour from a woman he isn't related to. His gentle demeanour would remind her of the man she used to love, and since she doesn't quite know what to do with herself after the trauma GM of horrors put her through, she'd probably join whatever quest he is doing at the moment.
In short, she'd become his loyal protector whether he wants to or not, and totally have a crush on him.
He can protect himself from monsters just fine, but has difficulties keeping women at a chaste distance without offending them, and would probably be grateful for her solving the problem by threatening to beat up anyone who gets too close. (She wouldn't question his culture. As a witch who has to hide her magic, she's very tolerant of people who are different. If he doesn't want women to touch him, he doesn't want it, and that's enough. After all, she doesn't want anyone to question HER quirky cultural habits.)
They would fall in love, but if they would ever figure it out is questionable, as none of them would dare to make the first step. She because she's shy and afraid of getting hurt, he because he follows a very strict moral codex and also because he thinks he's too disfigured for any woman to ever want him. (He's Hollywood disfigured, like Hester Shaw in the Mortal Engines movie. But acts like he's really disfigured. It will be very funny if anyone ever sees his face.)

Re: If your PCs met each other
Kindle, tiefling INT-based tomelock, L3. Never intended to be a warlock, would certainly not adventure except his patron makes him, is nervous about women to the point that he tries to avoid touching them unless absolutely necessary ("dragging them out of the dungeon"), and nervous about everything else too. Would far rather be sipping tea in a quaint bookshop. Wears spectacles, white shirt, neckcloth, waistcoat, pajama pants, and slippers (when your Patron tells you "go now" he doesn't want you to stop by your wardrobe).
Countess the Exalted Ledaal Yuyeh, Heavenly Feather, Cloud Wing Magistrate, Shrine Guardian, L8 tempest cleric/storm sorcerer, party face, amateur stripper, prefers a bed with room for three or four. Whatever she's wearing, her hair and makeup are perfect, her clothes (if any) are expensive and stylish, her armor is gleaming.
If Feather went to Kindle's library to consult on arcana, Kindle would probably stammer enough to be nearly incomprehensible, but would eventually calm down enough to be useful, as long as Feather didn't make a pass at him.
Any other situation would be worse.Junior, half orc paladin of the Order of St Dale the Intimidator: "Ah cain't abide no murderin' scoundrel."
Tactical Precepts: 1) Cause chaos, then exploit it; 2) No plan survives contact with...(sigh)...my subordinates.

Re: If your PCs met each other
Two of my characters have met in-game actually, but it's kinda because they were sisters.
If some of my other PC's met, it's kinda hard to say how they'd react, if at all. Their personalities don't really match at all and most of them are casters of some kind. My rogue would make fun of my bugbear bearbearian. I think my eldritch knight might have a drink with my sonic sorcerer as they have both a sort of negative world outlook. But they are from literally two different worlds.

Re: If your PCs met each other
Gerhart Ostermeier (human vengadin) meets Abandon (warforged brute)? Well, one can't talk, the other is an angry, angry man, so they'd probably have a total communication breakdown but would probably make a good fighting team.
D'inar Bel, kobold artificer, meets Abandon? Kobold would be attempting to disassemble the 9ft tall 'wardrobe with legs', whilst the other would placidly watch until he felt it was getting too personal.
So for generations did the sainted skull of Caius Anicius Magnus Furius Camillus Æmilianus Cornelius Valerius Pompeius Julius Ibidus, consul of Rome, favourite of emperors, and saint of the Romish church, lie hidden beneath the soil of a growing town. At first worshipped with dark rites by the prairie-dogs, who saw in it a deity sent from the upper world..

My only two DnD characters would get along great. One is a runaway tefling with in serious need of parental figures and the other is a overly self sacrificing and caring cleric of Eldath. They would form a really strong, dysfunctional and co-dependant relationship in like 4 minutes.

Re: If your PCs met each other
Hmm, rather than my most recent characters, let's go with my two favorite characters.
Jaun "Aegis". Fighter/Paladin. Heroic, self-sacrificing, dutiful. Pretty much the iconic Paladin, but with more of an emphasis on throwing himself between allies/civilians and incoming danger than on smiting evil, and I was pleasantly surprised at how fun he was to role-play. Combat style revolved around directing attacks toward himself, and as a Scourge Aasimar he could take advantage of that to radiate a damaging aura and hit a lot of enemies.
Locus (from Numenara, not D&D, but I'm using him anyway. Sue me). "Glaive who explores dark places." A cheerful, affable, easygoing sociopath who enjoys inflicting death and agony on others, but would be just as happy defending a town from an incoming threat, exploring a trap-filled cave, or entertaining small children. The closest thing to a Stupid Evil character I've ever played, he was nonetheless a fantastic team player because he was smart enough to recognize that adventuring with a party was basically his dream job and very easily amused, so for the most part he was perfectly willing to conform to the party's moral standards... and role-playing him was always a treat. A remarkably competent all-arounder, he was very tanky, dished out incredibly damage, and had just enough utility skills (and HP) to brute force his way through most exploration challenges; in combat he could throw daggers, shoot lasers, or cleave away with swords, but his most consistent trick was his ability to sacrifice damage to debuff his enemies with wracking pain.
Putting these two together would actually be pretty fun. They'd probably both be pretty confused by the other, as they did a lot of the same things for completely different reasons. Throw in Locus's difficulty understanding emotions other than fear and pain (despite being fascinated by them) and you've got a recipe for some hilarious banter.
Locus: "I keep tanking hits because I love the thrill of combat, but you clearly don't, so why do you keep getting in the way of enemy attacks?"
Jaun: "Because... I care about the people behind me? Better me than them."
Locus: "Fascinating. Tell me more."
Jaun: "So... I don't mean to pry, but what inspired you to join the quest to find a new home for the tribe?"
Locus: "Oh, is that what we're doing?"
Jaun: "... You didn't know that?"
Locus: "Nah. I was getting dangerously close to being bored, so I figured it was time to find something to occupy myself before I did something everyone would regret. One of my friends was going on this quest, so I tagged along. I do so love adventuring. Going new and interesting places, facing new and interesting challenges, meeting new and interesting people, and killing them in new and interesting ways. Always good for a laugh."
Jaun: "I... see."Last edited by PoeticallyPsyco; 2019-09-21 at 01:02 AM.

Re: If your PCs met each other
All of my characters currently exist in the same table modified version of FR. Three of them actually have met (one is now an NPC who employs the others) they get along just fine. Two are lawful types (the boss is technically neutral but works in law enforcement and loves his job) and share the protect and nurture attitude. They both also have the quirk of being a bit out if place in current times one having lived a strangely long time for his race, the other dead for nearly 2 centuries but recently brought back.
That would be Brakan and Roland, a Rogue and Paladin respectively. They share a lot in common.
The third is Phineas Ainsworth, a borderline inhuman Artificer savant with a horrible cocky attitude and a superiority complex. He tolerates the other two on account of their willingness to allow him to brag around them because they recognize that he truly is a genius Artificer. His day job at the moment is being the taverns brewmaster, cook, crafter, repairman, in house blacksmith and lock smith. He can also play the drums.
What would be interesting is if they met the last character, who is part of an unfinished campaign set 15 years prior to the one those three are part of. Drake is a no nonsense monster hunter whose order of blood hunters used a legitimate bounty hunting business in Luskan to disguise their dealings with the Ships in dealing with supernatural threats to the city. He's ruthless when he's set his mind on killing you and takes a long time to form trust.
Phineas would likely recognize his skill in the arcane and respect his natural talent enough to not consider him a complete neanderthal. Drake would find Phineas insufferable and think Phineas is wasting his potential being petty and lording it over people instead of making grand changes in magic and technology.
Roland would likely take issue with aggressive demeanor and hard stance on whether or not certain people can be redeemed. Roland would likely make a project out of trying to soften him up, Drake would probably go along with it as his firm stance has already softened a tiny bit since the start of his journey. In 15 years he might have even softened enough for them to meet amicably instead, that depends on how Drakes campaign ends.
Brakan I'm less sure of. In his earliest years he attempted the same kind of vigilante work that Drake does/did but now that he's a city official he would probably struggle between his duty to the public to upholds the laws in fairness and how he thinks there is a place for Drake's style of in the spot justice despite that. They would probably have a more unoffical relationship. Now that I've typed it out it's sounding very much like an Officer Gordon and Batman type of dynamic.
