Well met. So we lost a cleric and a barbarian and then gained a cleric and barbarian. Circle is complete.

A Jarak-Sinn, huh? I don't think I've ever seen anyone play one of them before. That should be interesting.

And a mountain dwarf. What kind? Hylar? Daewar? Klar? Theiwar? Daergar? Zhakar? Boy, there are a lot of mountain dwarf sub-races in Dragonlance now that I type it all up like that.

Yup ^^ a rare one that worships the Neutral god of wisdom as well. Hence why he will actually work as a Playable Character. A bigger focus beyond savage worship of nature or the more Tarkhisis-cruel worship that some Jarak-Sinn tends towards.
I guess my character is able to look at the wider world itself, even if Intelligence and Charisma isn't the strong-suit for this Cleric.

I will admit I'm not versed enough to know all that so I will happily just go with whatever our DM would imagine to be most appropriate, given the kind of Dwarven community Mohar came from, being they absolutely abhor the mere idea of arcane magic and basically made his family second-class citizens.

I specifically made a character that was rather oblivious to the knowings of the wider world for a reason, since I as the player also isn't too well-versed in Dragonlance cuz never had the chance before this to actually play in a campaign of it.
Thusly I made a character fitting my lack of knowledge.

Hmm, the links in the OP to Morhar's and Achuak's sheets don't seem to be working, looks like the URL's actually the character's name.

By the way, are Grayshore and Valorean still traveling with us?

Okay, well that rules out the Theiwar. They are the only clan that embraces the arcane.

Maybe the Daewar? They are super religious and traditional.

Hmm.... So.... just curious, but what are people waiting for? I mean, I am a new player to the game and sorta feel a need to let the 'current maincast' get the chance to let the newcomers mesh into the group. I don't wanna go steal the spotlight or do something that can be considered 'against the group'.

Language is helpful, but body language is something else.

You can all easily tell that not one of these people is a trained warrior. They absolutely i[]do not[/i] want to fight a giant but are pretty scared of being forced to stay the night away from what they consider "safety." They are obviously deeply mistrustful, and seem to think if they can get the bakali and dwarf to attack the giant they can kill three birds with one stone.

Morhar has seen people this frightened before, certainly, and knows they often make big (lethal) mistakes. They also seem to be weighing whether to be frightened of his wildness or impressed by his implied prowess. He certainly thinks the right words can push them to either act (rightly or foolishly) or stand down ... depending on which he prefers.

Bakali? I specifically made my character a Jarak-Sinn. For one, they are the 'iconic' lizardfolk in size and shape. The Bakali are bipedal crocodiles after all, and the hurdu are closer to bi-/quadro-pedal snakes.
So please, don't make my character something else than what I've made, okay? pretty please?

I mean it only as a reference.

First, your average Commoner NPCs don't know the difference between an actual crocodile and a bakali.

Second, bakali is a catchall name for lizard races. Re: "The term 'bakali' applies not only to the true bakali lizardfolk, but also their cousins the jarak-sinn, the troglodytes, and even the kobolds, sligs, and nagas."

Third, I don't know what source you're using. I'm looking at Dragons of Krynn (see above quote), which makes no mention of a "hurdu." And I'm choosing to ignore a bunch of the racial fluff in favor of your story, because jarak-sinn are generally violent and manipulative while you're playing a good guy.

Ahh then that's fine, I was just feeling a bit miffed cuz I thought you were forcibly making a change to my character without even mentioning it to me OOCly.

The dragonlance nexus? at least that's where I've found that info - And yeah my character is a little different from the average Jarak-Sinn, primarily due to the fact his wisdom score is rather high, allowing him a grander perspective and better self-control. Being the Cleric of of the God of Wisdom might have an effect to the Cleric beyond just choice of worship.
My character doesn't worship the 5 Grand Dragons Either.

On a side-note: what are the chances of the exact same result on two d20 rolls?

1 in 400, 0.25%. Though the forum dice roller is not perfectly random, so the chances of it happening here are probably higher.

Oh, just realised that's the probability of a specific double number. E.g. the odds of double snake eyes is 1 in 400. The odds of rolling any double are 1 in 20, since there are 20 different doubles you could roll.

Yes, the bonuses for attacking a sleeping target in melee are advantage on the attack and it's an automatic critical if it hits.

So technically the attack then hits... but on some sort of armor or just doesn't hit at a righ angle, yeah? the whole 10+ on attack rolls means it hits, but if not equal to or above the AC, it doesn't penetrate the armor? Or is that 3.5e talk?

That sounds like dirty heathen 3.5 talk.

What happens in 5e: you roll the attack twice. If either roll hits their AC (an 11 does not hit a hill giant under normal circumstances), you roll your damage dice twice and deal the sum of all of them plus constant bonuses as normal. Critical hits do allow you to double bonus damage dice like Sneak Attack, Divine Smite or poisoned weapons.

Being asleep does not affect your AC, unless you've taken your armour off or would normally be holding a shield.

I guess there are a handful of other features that proc on a crit, but they're pretty rare in 5e.

Yeah, I think that's true of pretty much ever edition of D&D. A 'miss' doesn't always mean you literally hit air, but it can also mean the attack was blocked, parried or even that it hit but just failed to do any damage. As the giant is asleep, that last one is the most likely explanation for why an attack would fail.

I also prefer the use of HP as, well, an indicator of combat capacity, rather than 'this is how my character appears, healthwise'. I mean after fights, with heals galore, short rests, etc. the combat damage is still there, the bruises, the near-misses, the mental stresses. It should also, as the rulebook gives you a possible example of, as in HP above half still means your character is not really wounded, hurt or bleeding. there might be scratches, bruisings, dangerous fatigue, etc. It's also useful for letting players know if an enemy is even hurt yet, if it seems to be close to death, etc.
