There's some great anime-inspired Western animation out there as well. Both Avatar series, as well as The Dragon Prince are delightful to watch.

    Ouran High School Host Club.

The show pretends it's semi-wholesome romance slowly budding over a squillion episodes.

It's actually a trashfire of horrible people exploiting others until eventually the female lead gives in. and it's my guilty 'watch once per year' show.

Youíve left out RWBY and Gen:Lock. Western Anime is becoming a genre.

Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go are obviously influenced by anime art but the rest feels like a regular Western kids cartoon. I can think of other Western cartoons drawing influence in big ways but Iíll stop.

    Thanks for the recommendations, everyone!

Just finished Death Note. I'm looking into recommendations here for where to go next. I'd like to watch something new, maybe My Hero Academia. Removes Cowboy Bebop from the list, though.

MHA is a very appealing superhero anime that manages to both be very approachable, have a very appealing fresh-faced main character, and go quite deep on the subject. Something everyone should agree is a good choice.

Madoka Magica. It's pretty good. Let me know when you get to episode three though. You don't want to bite off more than you can chew after all.

If you like Bleach (particularly back when it was, well, good ) then you should have no trouble getting into the likes of My Hero Academia, Fairy Tail or Fullmetal Alchemist.

For me personally, one of my favorite anime of all time is Code Geass, having a decent mix of magic, sci-fi/mecha, absurd high school student council drama, and a solid number of empowered female characters.

Since you liked Death Note, I think you'd like this one. I'm just getting into it. Don't want to spoiler anything -- and honestly I feel like linking them too closely is giving the protagonist a disservice -- but there's some general similarity in methodical logical thinking that I found appealing in both.

Indeed, and it captures quite a bit of Death Note's cat-and-mouse, manipulate-people-to-their-deaths-from-afar mechanics as well.

For a very alternative take on that idea, Kaguya-sama: Love is War keeps the "battle of geniuses" idea, but transports it to romance rather than detective-thriller. Or Promised Neverland, which goes for horror.

I liked Code Geass better when it was more the above plus mecha battles...and less whatever the hell happened in R2.

Hey, at least they STOPPED humanity from being made into orange juice! (Barely.)

Nunnally and Suzaku the War Criminals was definitely a head-scratcher though.

I wonder what (if any) of the suggestions the OP decided to go with.
