    Spoiler: Backstory
    Show
Vanessa was the result of an experiment's experiment. Slivux, an arcanist, began life as a blob of goo, granted sentience by an archmage. Slivux eventually moved out, settling in a small village where he worked as a hedge mage, helping the villagers and being friendly to all. While there was initial mistrust, Slivux's good and helpful nature soon lead him to being an ordinary part of the villagers' lives. Eventually, though, Slivux became unhappy. He felt he had no family. So, he did the natural thing-he MADE ONE!

Grown from his garden, Vanessa was built with a skeleton of ironwood, blood of ichor, and skin of flowers. She was certainly an odd one, but happy to be alive, and quick-witted and sharp to boot! Slivux taught her the rudimentary aspects of magic, and while Vanessa has not yet learned to cast more than a simple weapon enchantment, she's well on her way to learning how to become a more powerful mage.

Odd though they were, Vanessa and Slivux were happy with each other, and the villagers with them. Already used to Slivux's goo, Vanessa was welcomed by the children of the village as one of their own, and she played and had fun as children should. She did, though, spend most of her time with Slivux, learning and assisting in the lab.

When the sea-things attacked, Slivux was away-visiting his own father the archmage. Vanessa tried to fight, but to no avail, quickly being captured and finding herself insufficient to escape. She now finds herself deep under the waves, terrified of what might be next.

Thanks for choosing me! This looks really fun. Orlaf will speak in blue regular text for spoken words and blue italics for thoughts.

Is there anything we need to square away before posting in the IC thread?

Orlaf character sheet, he is a goliath barbarian.

You are welcome to start posting in the IC thread immediately. I have to square away something with Stone-Ears, but that will be handled via PM.

So, DM, may I make a Nature check to try to figure out what's causing his injuries and trouble?

And, if I succeed on that, may I make a Medicine check with advantage (representing further knowledge of his malady) to try to help out?

    Assuming yes, here are rolls:

    (1d20+7)[15] Nature

    (1d20)[5] Medicine
    (1d20)[15] Advantage?

If not, you can just ignore these rolls, or just take which ones are needed.

Edit: Really hope I get that advantage.

I think Trembling Leaf on the Wind will speak in bold. (Though if someone else wants that for some reason I could also do dark green.)

So as mentioned before in recruiting, I have 3 untaken languages. Could I ask what languages might be useful to take?

Put the Nature check in the IC. Medicine also tells you that the spreading poison is going to kill him without proper treatment, which is probably just amputation since you have nothing but cloth, coral, and rocks down here.

Aquan, Deep Speech, Merfolk, Sylvan, Abyssal, Infernal, etc.

You can cast any spells without an M component. Arcane Focuses just replace component pouches.

That's just Mage Armor for you, and Mending for Trembling.

I need everyone to make a Stealth check. Looking for more successes than failures across the party, to see if your escape draws ire.

You might find it easier to just walk along the bottom because of familiarity or encumbrance, but you can take off swimming in any direction.

I leave the nicknames to you!

Yes, my vote is the forest. We could be hard to find in there and it's likely most of the current people in our group (pcs and NPCs) don't have any form of dark/low-light vision, and we'd move slower if only a few can lead.

15 is exactly what you needed to avoid a fight. Nicely done. Everyone can have coral weapons (and shields) of their choice.

Magic fog spells work the same as normal, except they can be moved by moderate currents.

Orlaf will grab a battleaxe and shield. Way to come through, Ramsus!

I'm assuming the same stats as a basic battleaxe and shield?
