Default Bellators of the Shining City OOC

Bellators of the Shining City: No Cool Subtitle Yet

    Background Info
Spoiler: The Beyond, The Parvus and Novas
    Show

The Beyond is an dimension parallel to ours, and is partially governed by humanity's collective unconsciousness and partially by its own will. Though not actively malcious on its own, the Beyond is the origin of one of the greatest threats to humanity; the Parvus, wicked creatures created from the Beyond's essence, resembling twisted mockeries of creatures from human mythology..

It is unknown as to how the Parvus came to be. Some say they were there all along, inspiring countless mythological beasts, and the growth of humanity has only finally awakened them in force, whilst others claim that humanity's believes has shaped them into what they are and how they behave. What's known is that they're extremely dangerous, desire only the destruction of humanity, and spawn seemingly at will, though certain locations (such as Novahome) are more suspectible and humans can summon them by following certain rituals.

They seem to target mostly densely populated locations, such as cities, to massacre. Even the weakest of them require significant military effort to take down, causing mass collateral damage in the early days of their incursions, and it's been theorized that some of the more powerful Parvus that might exist could even laugh off a nuclear warhead exploding in their face. What's worse is that every year, the amounts of Parvus increase constantly, forcing humanity to constantly play catch up to even match them on equal terms, though currently the situation isn't bad enough as to force drastic countermeasures to be enacted.

However, the Parvus aren't the only things that came from the Beyond. After the first Parvus, there were signs of newborn children displaying strange and often terrifying powers. Termed "Novas" by GAIA (as well as other, often less polite terms by other people), they're capable of channeling the Beyond in many different ways; some generate and mainpulate massive amounts of mystical flames, others seem to cast various kinds of spells, and some even tap into the raw essence of the Beyond directly. Novas are often treated with caution and a certain degree of disdain, as their powers are capable of causing mass destruction if not controlled properly. There are some GEAR prototypes

    Spoiler: The Bellator System
    Show

The Bellator Project, as it was called, originated from a collaboration of the member states of the UN, as one of the proposed options to deal with the Parvus threat. The idea is to coalesce and solidify the Beyond around a person as armor of sorts, using a transformation device called a GEAR as a focus. The idea is to create something that would allow an otherwise normal person to fight the Parvus on equal grounds ("as strong and durable as a tank"), whilst also being easily deployable everywhere and being far less damaging to the surroundings ("in a human-shaped package").

Though the process was wrought with problems early on, with only a few candidates surviving actually transforming with the GEAR, the program was still promising enough that it was given enough funding to continue- then fifteen years ago, a shocking discovery was made, when a fourteen year-old middle school student with no training whatsoever managed to transform into a Bellator with a GEAR.

At this point, it's well known that only people born with at least a modicum of resistance to the Beyond could reliably become Bellators; whilst this was a rare trait in the generations born before the first Parvus attacks, the generations after that are almost universally resistant to it, meaning that in theory everyone could become a Bellator. This prompted a massive spike in the Bellator Project's funding, and shortly thereafter it became the dominant way to fight Parvus. This does mean that a disproportionate amount of Bellators are younger.

The modern day Bellators are considered superheroic figures and celebrities of their own right, in sharp contrast to their past statuses as being urban legends at best; they're widely hailed as valiant protectors of humanity and champions of justice, though not all Bellators are so noble. Some only do it for the status it provides, others do it for money, and others do it for their own personal reasons. There are even Bellators that have completely turned their backs to any pretense of heroism, instead working with evil organizations and even the Parvus themselves for whatever reasons.

The GEARs used by the Bellators usually take the shape of a belt-like device, though it isn't uncommon for it to be wrist-mounted or even for it to take the shape of a weapon. They come in many different patterns; some may have other auxiliary devices used to transform into various different forms with different powers, whilst others are tuned to only transform in one specific form. They can vary wildly in theme, powers granted and appearance, though they almost universally come in the shape of full-body armor with an helmet that fully covers the head; many Bellators play up their body language as a response to seem more expressive to compensate.

    Spoiler: On Organizations
    Show

GAIA (Global Anti-Invasion Alliance) is one of the biggest organizations in the planet, being funded by almost every nation in the UN. Its main focus is, purportedly, fighting Parvus and anything related to them, though considering how broad "anything related" can be (from cults who consort with the Beyond to criminals who just summon Parvus to use as a protection racket to even rogue Bellators fielded by nations), they are involved in a far broader field than their purported mission statement, which leads to some accusations of them overstepping their boundaries. However, due to their massive resources, broad knowledge base about the Parvus, and their skill in training and creating new Bellators and their GEARs, they're still widely respected, albeit begrudgingly in some areas of the world.

GAIA operate mainly in the public, being fairly open about most going-ons in the organization, though due to its sheer size, it's inevitable that there would be shadier and morally bankrupt elements inside it. Rumors even speak of a black-ops branch of GAIA tasked with dealing with human threats, but so far they're merely rumors.

Of course, GAIA isn't the only organization dedicated to fighting Parvi. Many megacorps, such as Hiryuu LTD. or Boson Dynamics have their own divisions dedicated to hunting the threat down, whilst there are even more scattered vigilante groups that not only dedicate themselves to hunting the Parvi, but sometimes also the monsters lurking in mankind.

However, not all organizations were founded with even superficially altruistic goals in mind. Many cults sprang from the first Parvus and the discovery of the Beyond, worshiping one or both of them and attempting to appease them in many strange and terrifying ways. Most notorious of them is the Children of the Balance, a group that believes the Parvus to be merely the wrath of the Earth personified and that humanity is a virus that should be eradicated at all costs. Many terrorist and underworld organizations are also using Parvus for their own ends, and many corporations are also rumored to be complicit in trying to use Parvus, for example by setting up protection rackets by summoning Parvus and charging the citizens for the privilege to be defended by their own Bellators.

So, everyone, please repost your sheets here for posterity. Aside from filling in the "When our team first came together" questionnaire, however, there's another thing I want to know; for which organization does this group of Bellators work for? Are they another GAIA-sanctioned team, one backed by a corporation, or something else entirely?

    Who is your supervillain parent?
Technically speaking, both of his parents, although when most people talk about his 'villainous parent' they're referring to his father, Leon, creator and leader of the mercenary/criminal Bellator force his wife and Michael's mother, Alexis, is also a part of, serving as her husband's second in command. In years since leaving GAIA, they've done quite well for themselves.
Who told you about your parent’s true nature?
They did. Michael was never hidden away from the truth about his parents and what they did - in fact, they wanted him to eventually join them, establishing a family legacy of Bellators that would endure after their deaths. It worked, more or less, although Michael is hoping isn't in the way they intended.
Why did you turn from your lineage to be a hero?
Unfortunately, despite his parent's intentions, Michael didn't like the idea of becoming a mercenary. As he grew up, he learnt what he could about the world and his parent's pasts, and found he much preferred the idea of life they once had to the life they currently have, and couldn't bring himself to be as callous and focused around personal gain as his parents. Him leaving wasn't an abrupt thing, instead being an extended periods of arguments and debate between him and his family, which eventually reached the point where it was clear to everyone that it couldn't be resolved yet and Michael left, his parents allowing him to leave with the belief that he'll see what they saw and return to them sooner or later, once he's done with his little act of rebellion. Michael, for his part, believes he's doing the right thing and hopes that his example might have a positive effect on his parents.
Who, outside of the team, helps you on your chosen path?
His primary guide is Sarah Phillips, formerly Crusader-3, who refused to join Leon and the others in their desertion of GAIA. She continued to fight as a Bellator before heavy injuries from a group of Parvus took her out of the fight. She still helps where she can, and to Michael she provides a good example, as well as someone he's comfortable trusting. He's also started taking more note of normal people since leaving his parents and their Bellator-focused worldview, and has struck up a friendship with the staff of a local cafe, starting to enjoy the more mundane parts of his new life. It's also become the main place he plays card games and other games of chance, which he primarily learnt from his father's Bellators and found he quite enjoyed. They have also begun to serve as impromptu guides to Novahaven, pointing out people and places he should see - Michael figures he should get to know the city he's fighting for better.
Why do you care about the team?
Michael has seen the merits of fighting in a team from his parent’s Bellator squads, and doesn't see why it wouldn't work here, even if some of his teammates are...odder than the people he's used to. On a personal level, he likes the idea of having peers and friends, and proving himself to them feels like a good first step to being accepted on a wider level.

Cobalt Titan is the only one who understands what I’m going through; I told them which part of me I wished was more like my parent.
Even though we've had our problems, and some nasty stuff has gone on between our families, he's still the one in the closest situation to my own, and seems to get how I feel. For one thing, he seemed to understand that gnawing feeling of not being good enough - for all his flaws, my father is an excellent Bellator, even back when he was young and fighting for GAIA. I just wish I could be stronger, and capable of matching him in battle, even if it's just the him that was in GAIA. I think Qusay gets that, given his own troubles with proving himself.
My parent once fought and thrashed Arsenal; I’ve got to find a way to make it up to them.
Arsenal may have an incredible amount of raw power, but he's still new to this life and inexperienced in battle - something my father took advantage of when he attacked him. As far as I can see it, the best way I can make it up to him is to make sure it doesn't happen again, and help him train and learn some skills to go with that strength of his.

Man, white, stocky body, uniform clothing, parent's costume

A large young man with short brown hair, well-built from constant training, Michael chose to start wearing a uniform when appropriate early into joining GAIA, seeing it as a way of reinforcing the choices he's made and loyalties chosen. He usually carries a sword, something which would be more alarming if it wasn't his GEAR, the Crusade Weapon System. That doesn't mean people still don't get worried, though. Even if the threat presented is the same, people tend to find obvious weapons more threatening than a belt or wrist mounted GEAR.

In battle, the fact that he uses one of his parent's old GEARs means that he naturally somewhat resembles his parent's Bellator appearance when transformed, although his parent's sense of style has evolved somewhat since the old days to match the times, leaving Michael looking somewhat old fashioned, dark grey and red armour and a visored helmet that lacks much of the flair of later Bellator armour.

    Lineage
    Spoiler
    Show

What kind of villain are they?
Deadly mercenary: Since leaving GAIA, Leon has fought for power and profit rather than a cause or for the sake of humanity, with little care for the morality of the situations he ends up in, earning a very comfortable lifestyle for himself (and Michael by extension) at the cost of firmly establishing himself as a criminal and villain in the eyes of the public and the law.
What is your relationship with them like?
Sadly opposed, redemption/corruption: As Michael's views and feelings became evident and it was clear Leon couldn't dissuade him from leaving, he instead chose to accept it, and the fact that they might one day face each other across the battlefield. He still holds onto hope that one day his son will see things as he does and return to the fold, and Michael wants to believe that his father can change.
They have an array of abilities, assets, and strengths; what are some of them?
Superhuman martial prowess: Leon has been a Bellator for nearly as long as there have been Bellators, and constant training and refinement of his skills is a big part of his life.
Arsenal of weapons and gadgets: Between using profits from mercenary work and criminal enterprise, and direct raids on relevant facilities and convoys, Leon has an impressive stockpile of GEARs and other items he's found useful in his work.
Powerful allies: Focusing on quality over quantity, Leon's mercenary force is made up of a small, hand-picked force of loyal, well-trained and equipped Bellators - thus far, he's rejected the idea of using the Parvus to fight for him, preferring humans he can trust. Chief among those soldiers is his most trusted lieutenant, Alexis - Michael's mother.
What abilities do you use to fight them?
Impressive martial prowess: Leon has been training Michael for a long time, from his mother preparing him from an early age, to both parents delivering training and lessons as soon as he was deemed ready to learn how to fight for real. This has led to him being impressively skilled in combat for his age, even if he's ended up fighting for the wrong side.
A powerful weapon or gadget When the rogue elements of the Crusader squad left GAIA, they brought their Crusade Weapon Systems with them. In particular, Leon kept his GEAR, holding onto it even as he upgraded his arsenal and moved onto a variety of GEARs over the years. Although the baseline GEAR is now long-obselete, Leon devoted some of his resources to upgrading and modifying the system to keep up with more modern GEARs, and to ensure the blade itself is still a dangerous weapon. When Michael was judged to be ready, he was given the GEAR. It was a gesture originally intended to honour the new Bellator legacy that was being forged, but made even more fitting by the fact that it was made when Michael was leaving home to fight on the same side Leon did when he used the GEAR. Michael sees the name he's adopted and the GEAR he uses as a way of honouring that different legacy.

That reminds me, I should figure out what Bellator name Leon goes by these days.

    Backstory:
    • When did you first use your powers?
Dr. Park said I first manifested Seong-woo when I was six. I remember it... her claws and wings popping straight through me, her jaws feeling as if they consumed mine. There was a black rage welling inside of my heart. Voices, whispers, all chattering incessantly... and then there was light.

And the next thing I knew, the television hated me.
    • Who was the first person you accidentally hurt with your powers?
The first one? Well... if you looked at any media article that would be the entire district of Yeongdo, wouldn't it? They said I did it. There could not have been anyone else. No one at all.
    • Who, outside the team, helps you control your powers?
Dr. Han-wu Park gives me pills that make the voices stop. That make me feel like I can still be myself. She also is the only lab coat that has remained in the ten years I've been under custody. Normally I feel that means I could trust her. But I think it's more that she finds me useful. But that'll have to be enough.
    • Why do you continue to use your powers?
Where do I have to go if I don't? They won't let me out. The paparazzis and media hounds and ambulance chasers all haven't forgotten. They're all just looking for the next person to blame. I can't live a normal life anymore. If letting Seong-woo control me like a puppet is the only way I can live close to normal, then I'll be their puppet.
    • Why do you care about the team?
If it weren't for them, I think I would have died or gone completely insane long ago. They're my friends, though and through. The only people I can trust. ... now if only I can actually say that out loud without choking up.

She is under the guardianship of the organisation the PCs are a part of. She doesn't have any surviving family (they all died in Yeongdo when her powers went out of control/the Parvus attacked). She doesn't particularly have deep, trusting attachments to the "adults" since she mostly deals with labcoats; Dr. Park probably comes closest to a mother figure for Seul-bi. However, she's not convinced (justifiably or otherwise) that she's really caring for her, just interested in her as an experiment.

As for her hobbies, since she's confined inside for the most part, I think she has become a real introvert -- she probably has picked up drawing and painting, and perhaps learning an instrument. I don't think she's particularly amazing at either, but it seems to have given her some comfort to create something that doesn't involve other people.

She probably tries to hide her works from the rest of the PCs, though, because she's embarrassed about it.

Alex was never supposed to be a Bellator. He started as a poor kid from the bad side of town and when his mother died from an untreated disease he joined up with a local gang called the Steel Dragons. Despite this, he was still a pretty stand up guy. His gang, led a competent Bellator everyone just called Boss, did more good than harm. They fought Parvus for half the going Megacorp rate and kept their criminal activities to non-violent stuff like gambling. More than just loyal, the Steel Dragons treated each other and the people under their protection like family. Even if it meant getting paid in freshly caught trout.

That, more than anything else, is probably what caused Legionnaire to target them. A leading and incredibly popular company specializing in Bellator protection, Legionnaire "accidentally" let several incredibly dangerous Parvus escape containment in the Steel Dragon's territory. With only two real Bellators on their side, it was nothing short of a blood bath that resulted in the deaths of nearly all the Steel Dragons and over a dozen civilians. Of course, Legionnaire used the opportunity for good press as their elite team stepped in to clean up and the CEO, Veronica Ledge, was publicly saddened by how innocent people were taken in by con men that claimed they could fight Parvus.

When Alex got out of the hospital, he was enraged and stormed into the Legionnaire main offices. Surprisingly, Miss Ledge offered to meet with him and personally give condolences. It was a trap of course. Alex never made it out of the elevator as it filled with gas. When he woke up it was to faceless scientists in clean suits getting ready to cut his chest open. He could only scream as the Gear was surgically transplanted and soon passed out from the pain.

The next time he woke up it was to screaming. Unable to see a thing, Alex instinctively activated the bright red Gear in his chest and transformed for the first time. Tearing free from the restraints, he came face to face with a humanoid Parvus. Grey and faceless, it had over a dozen protruding limbs, all ending with sickle like blades covered in the blood of researchers. Ironically, it was the same Parvus that Legionnaire had used to decimate the Steel Dragons, but had escaped for real this time. Oddly enough, it didn't seem interested in a fight and Alex knew it was only a matter of time until security arrived. Using the confusion as a cover, he managed to escape from the offsite lab.

As Marauder, Alex is insanely strong and nearly impervious due to high muscle density. His fighting style is a unique mix of a few different martial arts (all pretty much at beginner level), street fighting, and the high degree of beast like instinct granted by the GEAR. It's effective enough for most Parvus and highly unpredictable. Enemy Bellators expect chest lasers and telekinesis, not someone playing dead only to punch them in the back of the knee.

    Labels

    Superior +1

When you charge into a fight without hedging your bets, shift Danger up and any other Label down.

    Backstory
Who changed you? Legionnaire, A Bellator Protection Agency
How did you escape from them? A highly dangerous Parvus escaped. Strangely, it seems reluctant to attack Alex after leaving him alone twice while it killed everyone else.
Who tries to take care of you? Bart, an elderly man whose been letting Alex crash on his couch. Extremely no nonsense, he feels a debt to Alex's old gang and isn't afraid of anything.
Why do you try to be a hero? To defend the little guy when no one else will.
Why do you care about the team? He may not act like it, but Alex has lost a lot in life. He values friendship above all else and doesn't want to lose it again.

    The Bull's Heart
Love, Arsenal- As the youngest on their team and from an ordinary background, Alex sees wants to keep Blake safe. Not on the battlefield, but from the negative influences of fame and wealth.
Rival, Cobalt- The son of a famed Bellator, Cobalt thinks of Alex as just some spoiled kid that had everything handed him to him.
Take +1 ongoing when you take any action that impresses your love or frustrates your rival. You can change your love or rival at any time. Give them influence over you.

    Defender
When you leap to defend your love or rival, roll +Danger instead of Savior to defend them.

Qusay will speak in Blue. EDIT: Forgot to say, I think GAIA is the right organisation for our team.

    Spoiler: Cobalt Titan - Legacy
    Show

    Hero Name: Cobalt Titan
    Real Name: Qusay Xianda

    Abilities:
divine armor, magic weaponry, mythic might, legendary speed, god-like beauty

When transformed with his GEAR Qusay can summon a high-tech modular staff and blaster, while moving like a blur in combat. However, he has not been deemed worthy of piloting the mighty Cobalt Titan mech his father uses yet, and he worries he might never be worthy.

    Labels: (Mundane +1)
    Danger: -1
    Freak: 0
    Savior: +2
    Superior: 0
    Mundane: +2

    Moment of Truth:
This is the moment when you prove how much the mantle belongs to you. You seize control of all
your powers, and you defeat even impossible odds to prove you are worthy of the name you carry.
You accomplish feats even your predecessors couldn’t do. Of course, after you prove something
like that, you can expect still more responsibilities to be placed on your shoulders...

    Team Moves:
When you share a triumphant celebration with someone, tell them whether you see them as an
equal. If you do, give them Influence over you and mark potential. If you don’t, shift Superior up
    and any other Label down.

When you share a vulnerability or weakness with someone, tell them a secret about your legacy
(including your own true feelings about it) to clear a condition and give them Influence over you.

    POTENTIAL
    >>>>❑ >>>>❑ >>>>❑ >>>>❑ >>>>❑
Every time you roll a miss on a move, mark potential.

    Advancement

When you fill your potential track, you advance. Choose from the list below.

❑ Take another move from your playbook
❑ Take another move from your playbook
❑ Take a move from another playbook
❑ Someone permanently loses Influence over you; add +1 to a Label
❑ Rearrange your Labels as you choose, and add +1 to a Label
❑ Unlock your Moment of Truth
❑ Take a Sanctuary from the Doomed playbook
❑ Unlock the remaining two powers of your suite

When you’ve taken five advances from the top list, you can take advances from the list below.
❑ Unlock your Moment of Truth after you’ve used it once
    ❑ Change playbooks
    ❑ Take an adult move
    ❑ Take an adult move
❑ Lock a Label, and add +1 to a Label of your choice
❑ Retire from the life or become a paragon of the city

    Other Moves
    None!

    Legacy Moves
❑ Fight the good fight: When you pull your punches
while directly engaging a threat, you can roll +
Savior instead of + Danger. If you do, you cannot
choose to impress, surprise, or frighten your foe.

❑ Words of the past: When you seek the guidance
of one of your elders or a member of your legacy,
tell them a problem you face, and ask them a
question about the problem. They will answer
it honestly, and tell you what to do. Take +1
ongoing if you listen. If you go your own way,
    mark potential.

    Legacy
Your legacy is an important part of Halcyon City Novahaven.
Name the different members of your legacy (at least two):
My Father Bai Xianda aka Cobalt One is still active and prominent in the city.
My Grandfather Syed Abbasi aka Cobalt Phantom is retired and quite judgmental.
My first cousin Asif Abbasi is the next possible member of your legacy.
____________________ is the greatest opponent your legacy ever faced...and is still at large.

Whenever time passes, roll + Savior to see how the members of your legacy feel or react to your
most recent exploits. Before rolling, ask the other players to answer these questions about your
performance. Take -1 to the roll for each “no” answer:
    - have you been upholding the traditions of your legacy?
    - have you maintained the image of your legacy?
    - have you made the other members of your legacy proud?

On a hit, one of them offers you meaningful encouragement, an opportunity, or an advantage. On
a 7-9, another is upset with your most recent actions, and will make their displeasure known. On
a miss, something you did stirred up the hornet’s nest—expect several members of your legacy to
    meddle with your life.

    Backstory
    • When did you officially become a part of your legacy?
When I was born compatible with the Gear system, my father made sure to prepare my training to become the next member of the Cobalt Legacy. I finally saw official combat with my father just over a year ago, where I fought alongside him to stop a dangerous incursion. However, during the attack I was almost killed causing my father to be distracted saving me, and he took a horrific injury to the spine. He can still fight be everyone knows his days as Cobalt One are numbered.
    • What’s the greatest accomplishment of your legacy?
My father was able to command and pilot the mechanized giant Parvus Titan, which he used to defeat the largest Parvus attacker ever seen, codenamed Grand Slam.
    • How does the public perceive your legacy?
The original Cobalt Phantom is more of an urban legend, as he was a covert operator, but those in the know recognize his efficiency and ability to always bring back a squad home while finishing the mission. Cobalt One was a member of a team of color-coded Bellators called the Kaleido Defenders who all piloted Mecha Gear and are seen as superheroes around the world. You can find action figures of all the members of the team on shops around the world, as well as various tv series inspired by their actions.
    • How does your legacy tie into your reasons for being a hero?
Being a hero was always what I wanted to be, and all I was trained to be. There has never been a doubt in my mind that I would follow in my father’s footsteps. I also hoped that by doing so I could make my grandfather proud of me-he never truly accepted his daughter marrying my father, and I really want us to be a happy family.
    • Why do you care about the team?
Most of the Kaleido Defenders have retired, and I can tell the world is looking for a new team to inspire hope and make them feel protected. I know the team is a little rough and unusual but I believe that together we can become a team that will save the world.

When our team first came together...
All things considered, we did well and impressed an established hero. Who was it?

    Relationships
You once got caught doing something that shames your legacy with Crusader.
You trust Seul-Bi and told them an important secret of your legacy.

    Influence
You’re a part of this team, for better or worse, and you care what they think. Give Influence to all of your teammates.

    Have Influence Over:
    Crusader
    Arsenal
    Marauder

    CONDITIONS: None at present
    □ Afraid (-2 to directly engage)
    □ Angry (-2 to comfort or support or pierce the mask)
    □ Guilty (-2 to provoke someone or assess the situation)
    □ Insecure (-2 to stand in defense or reject what others say)
    □ Hopeless (-2 to unleash your powers)

Qusay is basically a power ranger/super sentai who has not found a team, nor been proved worthy of piloting his zord. My idea is that the zord was once a Parvus that's been 'tamed' for lack of a better term, and been somewhat mechanized in a more humane version of Evas from Evengelion so it's more of a partnership between pilot and Zord. The Zord (also called Cobalt Titan) has not accepted Qusay yet (it's the Mythic Might and Divine Armor part of the power set). '

    Hobbies:

Qusay feels compelled to hide his hobbies, because he wants his parents (and most importantly his grandfather) to think he's always working or training or studying to be Cobalt Titan. But the truth is, he has two big hobbies he does where and when he thinks he can be aloen:
    1) collecting Kaleido Defender memorbilia (including Blue-Rays, video games, cosplay and action figures)
    2) Bar games, like darts and pool. He looks older than he is so usually can get in with minimal disguise/fake name. He doesn't drink but just enjoys playing these games of skills, occasionally for cash.

    Spoiler: bed time story
    Show

"Mummy, can you tell me the story of how father tamed Cobalt Titan?" A 7 year old Qusay curled up in his Kaleido Defenders pajamas.

"It's late my darling, do you really want to hear it again?" His tired mother Hina looked down at her son from the door. Unfortunately her resolve was no match for Qusay's giant puppy dog eyes. "Very well. But then straight to bed!"

She sat down on the bed next to her son and began the story.

"Your father and I had been dating for two years and he only recently joined the Kaleido Defenders as their newest member Cobalt-6. He was so brave and earnest, working so hard to prove himself to the others, and fighting the hardest in every battle against the Parvus.

"One day though a giant Parvus, bigger than any seen previously, attacked the city. Every Bellator scrambled to try and fight it, including your father. However, simultaneously mobs of humanoid Parvus began abducting humans to take into the Beyond. One of them was me.

"I don't remember much of my abduction, only this strange grey being grabbing me and taking me into the darkness. The rest I heard from your father and others. Apparently the leader of the Kaleido Defenders at the time, Viridian-1, ordered all Bellators in the city to focus on destroying the giant Parvus, but your father disagreed and said some should go into the Beyond to rescue the hostages. Your father offered to lead a team, but was shot down. So he leapt into the Beyond by himself.

"He did find us, but he also found a giant blue Parvus wolf standing guard. Or perhaps we were meant to be an offering to it, I never really understood why we were taken. I saw your father in his Cobalt-6 GEAR stare down the creature that towered over him, both still as statues.”

"The psychic duel!” Qusay said excited. “How did father win the duel?”

“Your father described feeling the intense pressure of the creature in his mind, and said it was like drowning. Your father said the only thing that kept him from falling unconscious was,” she starts blushing and holding her cheek. “the thought of me.”

“Eww mum!” The seven year old said, very grossed out by the romance in his action story.

“Well anyway,” she laughed at her son’s response. “Eventually the pressure stopped and the giant Parvus bowed to your father. For the first time in recorded history, a Parvus had submitted to the command of a human.

“With the help of the Parvus your father titled ‘Cobalt Wolf’ he was able to rescue the captured humans. Once he returned to our world, he saw the giant Parvus invader was decimating the city. Somehow he stepped into the Cobalt Wolf like it was water, and merged with it. Suddenly, the Parvus turned into a humanoid Titan form. With this new form they destroyed the attacking Parvus and saved the day.

“Soon afterwards, your father was promoted to team leader as Cobalt-1, and Cobalt Wolf was refitted with Gear tech to allow it to stay in our world without harming itself or others. Your father even was able to teach the others in his team to tame Parvus Titans of their own.”

“Ooh, and then they made the Mega Gear Titan!” Qusay said excitedly.

“That story is for another time.” Hina began to get up.

“Oh come on! One more?” Qusay begged.

“Well, I could tell you the story of how your father and I met. It was very romantic, we saw each other on the Hajj and it was love at first sight-”

“Ughhh!” Qusay groaned, pulling the covers over his head. “Good night mum!”

“Good night my darling.” She said with a smile as she leaves.

Arsenal will speak in a lovely cyan colour.

GAIA works as an organisation -- as long they're cool with a member who didn't get their GEAR through them.

    Relationships
You told Song Seul-bi all about your doom and the danger you're in.
You'd love to kiss Qusay Xianda before your doom comes.

    Influenced by: Qusay, Michael

Spoiler: Blake McKinley -- Arsenal -- The Doomed
    Show
    The Doomed

Something about your powers dooms you. It's just a matter of time before your doom comes for you. Until then, though… you've got a nemesis who needs fighting and a world that needs saving. After all, it's better to burn out than fade away…

    Hero Name: Arsenal
    Real Name: Blake McKinley

    Look
    • Man
    • White
    • Steely eyes
    • Unassuming clothing
    • Armoured suit

Just under average height, unremarkable features and most generously described as ‘wiry’, Blake doesn’t cut an imposing figure and knows it. As a result he tends to dress like a normal fourteen year old boy – that is to say, in a manner that makes parents everywhere roll their eyes in despair. The only feature of significance that tends to stay with an observer is his eyes; they’re clearly seen far more than most of his age, and a steely resolve sits within.

When his GEAR activates, this changes...dramatically. His armoured form of silver and black is fully eight feet tall and powerfully built, with massively muscled arms more proportioned to a gorilla than a man. A second, smaller set of arms ride below the first, clearly better suited for fine manipulation, and his legs are longer in proportion than usual.

    Abilities
Arsenal is nearly a small mech, with great strength, high speed, weapon arms, and the capacity to generate various weapons out of energy constructs to meet the needs of a situation.

❑ Body transmutation: Greater stature and additional limbs
❑ Superhuman strength and speed: Power and mobility comparable to powered suit.
❑ Psychic Constructs: Generally used for defensive shields, offensive weapon effects (heavy guns, missile launchers, arm blades, etc), or a propulsion pack.

    Backstory
    • When did you first learn of your doom?
”Only a couple of months ago – which is a couple of months after I got my GEAR. I was pretty ordinary kid, and I wanted to be a Bellator so bad. I had posters, I had action figures, I read up on everything I could find on Bellators and GEAR and how everything worked. I wished and wished hard as I lay in bed every night that I would get a chance to become one of them. I wanted to be a Nova to wield the wild power and be the most famous, most powerful Bellator there ever was.

"And then one night, a voice answered me. In my head.

    "I know!

"It told me that it was the guiding spirit that selected those worthy to join the ranks of the Bellators and bestowed their GEAR upon them. This was the most closely kept secret of the Bellators, only revealed to those who would join their ranks. I was promised fame, power, and the chance to become something far greater than I was. The more I used the powers granted to me, the deeper my tie to the Beyond would become, allowing the energies to flow through me.

"It was amazing! It was too good to be true! Of course I accepted!

    "Guess what?

"It was too good to be true.

"Oh, sure, I got my GEAR. I have amazing powers, even a cool little personal headquarters, and people look up to me. I can feel the energies of the Beyond inside me when I'm armoured up.

    "Filling me.

    "Changing me.

"After a couple of months of getting used to what I could do and letting it get its hooks fully into me, the 'spirit of the Bellators' revealed that it was, in fact, an exceptionally powerful and crafty Parvus, a Glabrezu demon who goes by the name 'Mokravud'. Rather than just raging and causing devastation, this monster likes to tempt, lure, and otherwise trick people into accepting their greatest wishes for a far higher cost than they could imagine.

"In my case? In order to keep using my GEAR, I need to recharge it periodically at my headquarters. The charging process turned out to be linked to the containment unit, meaning I need to run down, capture, and stuff active Parvus into the bloody thing, which proceeds to siphon and feed their energies into my armour. Which is doing...things...to me. Every time I use my GEAR I can feel it leaving a...residue in me, that I was gleefully told will slowly, painfully, eventually corrupt me into another Glabrezu, starting the whole cycle over again.

"Oh, and I can't just...not use the GEAR, even if I wanted to. The pair of bracers I use to activate would require removing my hands to take off, as it turns out, and if I go for too long without powering up I seem to get what's full-on withdrawal symptoms that are too horrific to resist.

"So, yeah. That's a thing. Sooner or later, no matter what I do, I'm going to either die or become a monster. The more I fight against it, the more the process accelerates. No-win situation, right?"

    • Where did you get your sanctuary?
"Came part and parcel with my deal with the devil, as it were. As well as my GEAR, there's a stoutly built little building on the corner not far from my place, that always made me think of a fortress. I was told that this place was now my headquarters, and inside there was the containment unit, the power battery, and a computer so overclocked it kinda scares me. The door only opens to my GEAR so it's pretty secure, but it's also the place that's slowly making me a monster, so I have to admit I'm of two minds about it.

    • Why do you oppose your nemesis?
"Two reasons, mainly. One, the obvious one; this thing is a bloody monster, and it will keep on doing these sorts of things to other people and ruin who knows how many lives? I've got a ton of power, no matter how it came about, and I'm going to use it to do good for as long as I've got left.

"The other one? Mokravud mockingly told me that I was doomed, the only way out was either to kill myself, or kill it. The laughter that echoed through my head at that went on for at least two minutes, which seems a bit excessive to me, but apparently I don't come across as enough of a threat.

    "You know what? Challenge accepted.

    • Who, outside of the team, is crucial to defeating your nemesis?
”I’m pretty sure if it’s going to happen, it’s gonna be with the help of Sage. She’s a top-tier Bellator, and always seems to know just how to attack a Parvus to hurt it the most effectively, it shows in her takedown stats. She’s gotta have some sort of Nova ability that lets her figure out where they’re weakest.

“If anyone can help make a difference in dealing with something like Mokravud, it’ll be her.”

    • Why does the team matter to you?
”Nobody can do this kind of thing alone. I mean, nobody. You know how much damage a single Parvus can do, how hard they are to take down? Those are the footsoldiers; the real threats are pretty much beyond comprehension.

“And, well...a guy needs friends, right? And talk what you want about peer groups, but I can’t just hang with kids from school, we’re not even remotely on the same level any more. How are we supposed to relate? They have real, normal lives, and I’m out there trying to win an impossible battle in the time I have left. Makes for a gap in the conversation, y’know?”

When our team first came together…
We paid a high cost for victory. What was it?

    Relationships
You told Song Seul-bi all about your doom and the danger you're in.
You'd love to kiss [b]Cobalt/b] before your doom comes.

    Nemesis
You have a nemesis, an epic and powerful enemy representing and embodying your doom. It’s going to take everything you have to take them down in the time you have left.

Who is your nemesis? Mokravud, Glabrezu demon and major Parvus. “Over twelve feet tall and built like a tank, he’s several colours of ugly and has features drawn from several different monsters of legend. His massive six-armed form clearly inspired my amoured one, although the two oversized arms end in huge pincers rather than hands. Horns, fangs, draconic back-crooked legs...well, you get the idea.

“He’s got...incredible power, and he uses it to tempt. He’s got some way of hearing thoughts or wishes, and with the sort of reality alteration he can do to make it happen, for lack of a better term you could call them...wishes.”

At the end of every session, answer the question: Did you make progress on defeating your nemesis? If the answer is yes, mark potential. If the answer is no, mark your doom track.

    Doom

”Every use of my powers corrupts me, turns me. The day will come when I’ll be no better than any other Parvus, and the more I lean on them, the faster it will come. Even worse, with the way things work; the more people know about it, the collective will of Humanity will end up pushing that conclusion all the faster. I’m kinda hooped.”

❑ Bolstered: Mark your Doom Track to use an Adult Move one time.

    Sanctuary
You have a place where you can rest, recover, and reflect upon your powers. Choose and underline three features of your sanctuary:
a containment system; a powerful computer; a power battery

Choose and underline two downsides of your sanctuary:
location known to many, tied intricately to your doom

    - You and your team will risk danger from _ _ _ _ _ _ _
    - The best you can do is a lesser version, unreliable and limited
    - You'll need to mark one box on your doom track
    - You'll have to obtain _ _ _ _ _ _ _

    Moment of Truth

The prickly tingling fear of your doom, always in your head—it holds you back most of the time. But right here, right now? It gives you the confidence to do anything. After all, what’s the worst that could happen? Is it worse than your doom? Do impossible things. Do anything. But mark a doomsign after you’re finished.

    Team Moves

When you share a triumphant celebration with someone, give them Influence over you and spend 1 Team from the pool to clear one box on your doom track.

When you share a vulnerability or weakness with someone, give them Influence over you and ask if they honestly think there’s hope for you. If they say yes, mark potential or clear one box of your doom track. If they say no, mark a condition or mark your doom track.

    Hobbies and Free Time

”Before I got my GEAR, I was a huge Belltor geek, following combat stats and reading all the literature. I don’t have as much time for that anymore, but the huge computer in the Citadel keeps track of most of the important stuff for me.

“I also play the guitar, I guess. I mean, I’m not fantastic at it, but that’s why I practice, y’know?”

I suppose Evan will speak in Dark Green. Sometimes, when he's too distracted or angry to keep under control, his voice becomes a thunderous, resonant and very inhuman thing. In this case, I'll probably use an unusual font.

    Spoiler: Morphic, the Transformed
    Show
    THE TRANSFORMED
    HERO NAME: Morphic
    REAL NAME: Evan Mercer

    Look
    • Man... Ish.
    • Indistinguishable ethnicity
    • No eyes
    • Oily black flesh-ooze
    • Strange/no costume

Following his encounter with an infection by the Parvus Legion, Evan's body is an amorphous mass of black goop, which significantly limits his ability to pass for human. Thanks to a specialized S-GEAR which greatly limits his powers he can maintain something akin to a human shape, but still would never pass for human without completely covering his own 'flesh', which is exactly what he does with civilian garb. He prefers winter months, when he can get away with full winter gear, a balaclava and goggles to hide himself, but when that isn't practical he still favours hoodies, gloves and a gas mask or full bike helmet; better to be seen as a weirdo than a monster. While he's attempted to use cosmetics in the past, even with his S-GEAR fine human features are beyond him; fingernails, eyes, the nose and the mouth are always elements he would be unable to replicate.

Any sort of true costume would badly impede his ability to shift his form in battle, so he wears nothing but a simple mask to give the impression of having a face, and show where he is focusing his attention (and who he's talking to) while his S-GEAR isn't active, resulting in a massive shape-shifting blob of vaguely humanoid proportions at best as his Bellator identity. When he wants to travel in human form for a mission, he prefers his signature mask and a full-body cloak (since less clothing is less to worry about), an outfit that has been described as 'basically indistinguishable from a slasher movie villain'. Needless to say, he has far more detractors than fans.

    Abilities

You appear obviously and clearly monstrous, and your powers are tied to your appearance. Choose two, and describe how they make you grotesque.

Inhuman might and transmuting flesh: Morphic is entirely comprised of a black viscous fluid, which he can change the shape and density of at will. At his smallest he can compress down to the size of a large cat, while at his largest he is a pool of inky black liquid nearly 20 cubic meters in volume. He has, functionally, immense strength as a result of his strange form, and is also resistant or entirely immune to most conventional attacks as long as he stays large enough; bullets are all but entirely meaningless to him, blades need to carve large chunks of the goo away before achieving anything and only the mightiest of punches can phase him in the slightest. Even being blown apart doesn't set him back too far; while he does lose control of any of the Beyond-stuff that forms his body when it separates from the mass, he can reconstitute himself fairly well by just reabsorbing it later on. His greatest weakness is his lack of fine control; while the Legion was able to keep an entire team of Bellators at bay in the past, a human mind is poorly adapted to control dozens of appendages at once and Evan is mostly limited to fairly crude uses of an extremely flexible ability. To even maintain a convincing human silhouette he requires the aid of a specialized GEAR designed solely for that purpose.

    Moment of Truth

It’s so easy to forget that you’re not your body, and you’re not the voice in your head—you’re both. Be the monster, and save them anyway. Smash down walls, and speak softly. Because when you embrace it, you can do anything. Of course, putting on a display like this is sure to rile up those who see only the monster when they look at you…

    Team Moves
When you share a triumphant celebration with someone, clear one condition if they treat you like a perfectly normal person and mark potential if they praise your power or abilities.

When you share a vulnerability or weakness with someone, ask them if they think you’re losing or gaining humanity. If they say losing, mark a condition and mark potential. If they say gaining, clear a condition and shift Mundane up and any other Label down.

    POTENTIAL
    [] > [] > [] > [] > []
Every time you roll a miss on a move, mark potential.

    Advancement

When you fill your potential track, you advance. Choose from the list below.
[] Take another move from your playbook
[] Take another move from your playbook
[] Take a move from another playbook
[] Take a doom, doomtrack, and doomsigns from the Doomed playbook
[] Someone permanently loses Influence over you; add +1 to a Label
[] Rearrange your Labels as you choose, and add +1 to a Label
[] Unlock your Moment of Truth
[] Mutate further and reveal another two new abilities (chosen from any playbook)

When you’ve taken five advances from the top list, you can take advances from the list below.
[] Unlock your Moment of Truth after you’ve used it
    once
    [] Change playbooks
    [] Take an adult move
    [] Take an adult move
[] Lock a Label, and add +1 to a Label of your choice
[] Retire from the life or become a paragon of the city

    Labels
(at character creation, added +1 to Danger)
    DANGER: +2
    FREAK: +3
    SAVIOR: 0
    SUPERIOR: -1
    MUNDANE: -1

    Conditions
[] Afraid (-2 to directly engage a threat)
[] Angry (-2 to comfort or support or pierce the mask)
[] Guilty (-2 to provoke someone or assess the situation)
[] Hopeless (-2 to unleash your powers)
[] Insecure (-2 to defend someone or reject others’ influence)

    Transformed Moves
    (Choose three)
[x] I am not my body: When you take a powerful physical blow, you may roll as if you had two fewer conditions marked. If you do, on a 10+ you must choose to lose control of yourself in a terrible way.
[x] Not human enough: When you directly engage a threat in a terrifying fashion, mark a condition to choose an additional option, even on a miss.
[] Unstoppable: When you smash your way through scenery to get to or away from something, roll + Danger. On a hit, the world breaks before you, and you get what you want. On a 7-9, choose
one: mark a condition, leave something behind, or take something with you. On a miss, you smash through, but leave devastation in your wake or wind up somewhere worse, GM’s choice.
[] Coming for you: When you mark a condition, take +1 forward against the person you most blame for causing it.
[x] Wish I could be: When you comfort or support someone, if you tell them what you most envy about them, you can roll + Freak instead of + Mundane.
[] Be the monster: When you frighten, intimidate, or cow others with your monstrous form, roll + Freak. On a hit, they are thrown off and make themselves vulnerable to you, or they flee. On a
10+, choose one. On a 7-9, choose two.
    - you frighten others you had not intended to scare
    - you hurt someone or break something you shouldn’t have
    - you feel like more of a monster afterward; mark a condition (GM’s choice)
On a miss, they react with violence, hatred, and paranoia, and you suffer the brunt of it

    Other Moves

    Backstory
    • Who were you before?
Nobody important. My name's Evan Mercer, and I was a high school student at Langford Academy. Middle-class family, decent grades, on the basketball team. I used to play drums in a little garage band. I wonder what those guys are doing these days? I should really ask Mom if I can get my old drum set back... If I practice hard enough, maybe I can be the cover of a metal album some day. I certainly look like I belong there.

    • When did you change? What caused it?
That would be fifteen months ago, during the Legion incident, about a week before my sixteenth birthday. Horrible goo monster codenamed Legion managed to get into our world. It could... Infect people, turn them into more goo monsters. Like me, pretty much. Obviously, that's exactly what happened. It got me while I was asleep, and nearly got my parents too. They managed to get away, but I know it scared the hell out of them. I can't remember any of that, but... I'm pretty sure they saw me half-transformed, and it shook them up pretty badly. There's a reason I don't live at home any more. Well, a few of them actually, and I don't blame my parents at all for it. From what I've been told, the Legion rampage required the response of three different teams of Bellators to clean up and caused all kinds of property damage, but they eventually managed to carve the Legion up into manageable chunks and contain everything. GAIA's eggheads (and Doctor Song, but more on her later) figured out a way to undo the Legion infection and turned everyone back to normal, so things went well enough in the end...

Well, except for me. Current hypothesis is that I was a latent Nova, and being infected by the Legion screwed up my powers and made it impossible to fully purge it from me. Or maybe I had a weird genetic disorder that reacted strangely to the magic. Nobody really knows. The Parvus' control was gone, and I woke up... Well, as an amorphous blob of goo. It... Really sucked, and I don't want to talk too much about the early days. Took me most of a week to figure out how to talk without risking blowing out people's eardrums, just as an example.

    • Who, outside of the team, is helping you understand your new body?
Remember Doctor Song? She works for Beyond Innovation, a research company that works on understanding and replicating Beyond phenomena and adapting them for human use. I guess she'd been researching something pretty similar to the Legion already, so GAIA called her in to deal with all the infected people. She and her team have been helping me out ever since; they helped me figure out how to actually use my abilities, built the S-GEAR (I think the S stands for Stabilizer) that lets me pretend to be kind of human again and provided me with living arrangements that are halfway suited to an amorphous mass of variably dense quasi-liquid... Song's wording, not mine. I mean, I need to sleep in something a lot closer to a swimming pool than a bed if I don't want to wind up in the basement or something. Not like I could have done that at home. In exchange, they get to run experiments on me, which really helps all of us. The better the labcoats understand me, the better the chance they can come up with something to cure me, and the better I can adjust to things as they are. On the flipside, they get to do some pretty funky physics experiments, and there's some hope they might be able to make pretty nifty things if they can replicate some of my properties. Plus, there's the hope that we might be able to mass-produce GEARs to give people my powers temporarily, build our own Legion... of Justice, this time. That might not be too bad, either. The fact that they've been looking at me under a microscope for over a year also means that most of them aren't even scared of me by this point, and that's kind of nice too.

    • Why don’t you just try to hide yourself away?
Are you joking? I'm not exactly a loner, as much as I might wish I was. I'd go absolutely nuts if I went and hid in a hole for the rest of my life. Having people around is important, even if I have to dress up like a nutcase to go out in public most of the time. Plus, if I just hide away there's no chance of ever getting to go back to normal. Besides, living in a hole somewhere would be boring as hell. I'd rather be a monster out in the world than a ghost in a cave, any day of the week.

Oh, right, and recently I've been able to go out and fight the Parvus, too. Get a bit of revenge for what they did to me. Highlight of my week, every time.

    • Why do you care about the team?
They aren't afraid of monsters. They aren't boring. Maybe some of them might even be friends one day. Mom likes to talk about how important it is I get to spend time with my peers, but at this point I'm happy being able to spend time with anyone that doesn't wear a lab coat or look at me like I'm some sort of serial killer.

When our team first came together...
We drew attention and ire from plenty during the fight. One important person in particular now
hates and fears us. Who is it?

    Relationships
Seul-bi comforted you when you were at your lowest.
Arsenal knew you before you changed.

    Influence
    They have Influence over me:
    Seul-bi

    I have Influence over them:
    Seul-bi
    Cobalt Titan

These adults have lost Influence over me:

I'm alright with GAIA as our sponsor, since it looks like the majority of the team prefers that. I had already established a connection between Beyond Innovation and GAIA, so it makes sense that way.

Phantos_Argent just in case you were unaware we've been discussing playbook relationship questions on the discord. Wanted to know if you had any thoughts on your relationships, or which of ours you might like to be part of?

No, just some unexpected work and thanksgiving stuff has left me pretty much disconnected the past couple days. One three hour trip somehow turned into two full days of cleaning for guests, cooking for guests, and then cleaning up after guests.

So, I believe our When We Came Together questions order goes Bull, Nova, Doomed, Legacy, Transformed, Scion.

    Let's get this party started!

To avoid losing the answers in the discord, let's post the responses to our 'How they came together' questions here. I've put them in order, so wait until it's your turn to post.

EDIT: Just a reminder, here are the questions.

Bull: We defeated a dangerous enemy. Who or what was it?

Nova: We destroyed our surroundings in the fight. Where was it? What did we destroy?

Doomed: We paid a high cost for victory. What was it?

Legacy: All things considered, we did well and impressed an established hero. Who was it?

Transformed: We drew attention and ire from plenty during the fight. One important person in particular now hates and fears us. Who is it?

Scion: Someone important learned about my lineage and condemned us all. Who? Why?

We defeated the rogue Bellator, Sabre Valentine

    Spoiler: Sabre Valentine
    Show

Sabre (originally Mary Geller) was a rising star on the Bellator scene until a mysterious change caused her to become exceedingly violent. It was only through our timely intervention that she didn't annihilate a large group of people along with the Parvus she was actually fighting. Going berserk, she shifted all of her attentions on fighting us instead.

We destroyed New Nova Plaza in the fight, a spick-and-span, high-end new commercial plaza that's meant to replace the much-loved, yet aging Nova Plaza. Amongst any others, Seul-bi's Parvus Seong-woo was very visible in destroying it.

Not every victory can be considered a total win. Of the eight young Bellators that flocked to defend the city, only six survived to fight another day. A young genius with an incredible understanding of GEAR technology and another Bellator never before seen out of his armour perished in the battle.

We won...but it was a sober reminder of what the ultimate cost might just be one day.

Legacy:*All things considered, we did well and impressed an established hero. Who was it?

The person we impressed was Sabre Valentine, the Bellator we were fighting. By the end of the fight we managed to knock her out to the extent that whatever made her violent was gone. She is still in quarantine and being looked over by scientists to figure out what caused this, but she may still be sentenced for killing two Bellators as well as endangering so many civilians, if no external cause can be identified.

Still she is a popular Bellator among those independent from GAIA and the corporate organisations so her word has a little sway.

Ken Karakuri, Hiryuu LTD's regional sales director, was present in New Nova Plaza during the battle, and was injured by falling debris as a result of collateral damage. He has sworn that Hiryuu will block any support for the 'inept and berzerk' Bellators involved in the incident, including the team and Sabre Valentine, and has been quick to condemn GAIA's response to the entire situation. Karakuri has enough pull with Hiruu's board to seriously cut into the company's funding and technical support of GAIA, funneling more resources to the company's private anti-parvus force, and remains a vocal critic of GAIA's use of 'monstrous and unreliable' Bellators and Novas.

Someone important learned about my heritage and condemned us all. Who? Why?

Tobias Cain, a high ranking member of GAIA. He already had expressed concerns about most of the other members of the team, given their unusual origins, risks and natures, but when the reports about the battle with Sabre came across his desk, learning that Crusader had joined the team tipped him into outright opposing the team's. He claims to just be concerned about the danger the team may present if they went rogue - particularly given many of the team are more closely linked to the Parvus than most Bellators and the sheer raw power some, like Seul-bi, possess - with Crusader's heritage merely bringing the issue to mind, but it feels more personal than that.
