Upwelling merely stares at the blasphemous Goblin with his unblinking, cold, and devoid of emotion light receptors.

After a few seconds, he packs his work up, and slinging his pack, readies himself to move into the mine with the others. He keeps his mace handy however, wary of the creatures that inhabit this place.

The mine is an open hole in the side of the hillside. There are no doors or locks to trap. Further, he sees no sign of tripwires, deadfalls, or covered pits.

The inside of the mine is dark. There are no signs of lights coming from inside.

Unsure of what to do, the little Goblin hops off the cart and brushes off his crossbow. "Let's go then."

Lightly tapping his new light mace against the wall, Upwelling tries to see if it's also the type that glows by focusing on it.

Arzeal looks towards his companions and shrugs. Not able to see in the dark, he waits for someone to pull out a light.

Upwelling finds that in the darkness of the mine, the made does give off a soft glow, illuminating the area within 10 feet with dim light.

Stepping further into the mine, Upwelling turns back to look at the others querilously, as if to ask if they are coming, but with the harsh blue glow of his mace outlining his inhuman body, throwing each rivet and metal plate into sharp relief, complete with eyes that glow golden, he looks instead like some nightmarish horror come to life. With one hand, it's three fingers painfully obvious, beckoning, he turns to look deeper into the mine.

Whitehearth Mines

Upwelling leads the way for a short bit and comes to a fork in the mines. A choice must be made... turn left, or turn right?

Arzeal follows Upwelling in, staying rather close, as they come to the intersection, he looks both ways then points to the left. Most people would go right, they might expect that, let's go left.

Whitehearth

Turning to the left, the party walks down the tunnel for a short distance before the light from Upwelling begins to glint off of something metallic on the floor. As they get closer, they can see that it is a circular 4-foot-wide adamantine hatch set into the floor. There is a simple locking mechanism in the center of the hatch and a small socket just to the left of the locking mechanism, coated with blue enamel.

The little Goblin drops to a crouch and examines the hatch and locking mechanism to try and determine what he can about the way it locks, what they need to open it, and if any immediate magical traps are present.

The locking mechanism is little more than a simple circular handle, which will need a turn to unlatch (Similar to what you might see on a modern day military ship). However, the socket next to the hatch appears to be much more intricate. It reminds you of the magical locks used by House Kundurak on their safety deposit boxes. The deposit boxes typically require a keycharm that has been magically linked to the box in order to open.

You do not detect any traps.

The incredibly intelligent goblin relates what he learned back to the others. "What do we do now?"

"I am uncertain. Does no one else posess a light-emitter?"
Upwelling asks incredulously, reaching for the gold-tipped iron rod in his belt.

Grabas grumbles and casts light on his dagger.

"There, now I am entirely out of spells. Can we rest here? We're pretty beaten up and I'd prefer to have some spells before we dive in here, assuming we can even get this door open."

No light here, don't like caves. If we rest, this might be a safe spot. Seems that way. But I think the first thing we need to do is see what is the other way. Make sure nothing can get us as we make camp. The shifter says, responding to the questions posed by both the goblin and the construct.

Still clutching the iron rod with his shield-bearing arm, Upwelling keeps the mace aloft, and turns to face the other direction, ready to move when the rest of the party is prepared to.
