Re: Ohio Meetup Interest Gauge Thread!
I think that would be a good idea, Alarra. I know I personally can't afford a hotel otherwise, so the more the merrier!

I can't imagine the weather is going to be good enough to want to plan outdoor activities, so we'll probably want to have several items on the list of things to do.
I'll try to do a bit of a search for specific hotels tomorrow if I get the opportunity.
And if anyone in the area can recommend a specific hotel or look into suites for us that might work best as you'll probably have access to the best information (being local and all).
If we are going ahead with 01/18 date we need to get moving, because that's soon. If not, let's set a date and stick to it so everyone can arrange their schedules accordingly.

Re: Ohio Meetup Interest Gauge Thread!
seeing as i voted i was going to go to cleveland, but one of our big customers at work was bought out, and if they keep us as the print shop of choice we're going to be on weekend shifts and extra time on weekdays. all to replace a half inch ICI logo with a different companys half inch logo.
my appologies, but i'm out.

Re: Ohio Meetup Interest Gauge Thread!
I'll try to keep a running tally of those wishing to contribute to the GitP Suite in Cleveland so we can see what we'd need in the way of rooms.
Alarra
Zeb
ZRS
PhoeKun
Tormskull
Atreyu
And shall I put down Indy and B-Man as maybe's? Depending on cost, of course, it looks like it shouldn't be too bad, money-wise, to get two adjoining rooms.Want to meet some of the most awesome people on the internet? Come to the Baltimore/DC Area RenFest Meetup 2012!

As long as this happens in January, yes, sign me up for maybe. I'll have a better feeling of my financial situation tomorrow (let's see how bad the increase of rent will dent me).

Re: Ohio Meetup Interest Gauge Thread!
Sorry for the late chime-in, but as a Cleveland area native I would love to join in for this. I did a little fact-finding (if for comparison if nothing else) and the Holiday Inn in my town (East Side, 1/2 hour from downtown) has two suites for $199 a night. Each suite has a dining room for 6 and two adjoining bedrooms (so its comprable to getting two adjoining rooms at like $80-90 a night and we get the dining room area). They are both available the night of the 19th (and probably the 18th but I just asked about Saturday night). I may be able to get a small discount as my wife is a member of the city chamber of commerce.
I can look into other hotels and areas for you guys if you're interested.

Re: Ohio Meetup Interest Gauge Thread!
You, sir, are awesome. Hmm...2 nights, $400/8 if Indy and B-Man end up coming, makes $50 each plus whatever taxes (I don't know American sales taxes).
Some of us have no problems helping you out, if you need it. I've promised someone I'll kidnap you regardless .
I should bring my guitar...I wanted to have it at GenCon but figured there'd be no storage room in the car.
I dunno...did we make this date solid? My preference is definitely for the 18th-20th, but if the Pirate King can't make it, that'll make me sad.Remember when I had an avatar?

Re: Ohio Meetup Interest Gauge Thread!
Ooo, I'd love to hear ZRS be a guitar hero without buttons. Alarra wants to see what it looks like to play Guitar Hero on Expert (it's official, we'll be bringing Xbox360 and Rock Band+GH3).
Steve, I agree with ZRS, that suite sounds incredible and would definitely work out better than two rooms, in my view. I mean, a table to play Apples to Apples on? Yes, please!
One thing I'm curious about, if only because it frustrates me, does it have free high speed internet? It bothers me to no end that Motel 6 can offer it for free but the Ritz-Carlton can't.Want to meet some of the most awesome people on the internet? Come to the Baltimore/DC Area RenFest Meetup 2012!

Re: Ohio Meetup Interest Gauge Thread!
OK, did a little more checking. The two suites are not next to each other if that effects anything. Most Holiday Inns have free high speed, and from the listing of this one I think its that same:
High Speed Internet Access
Service Provider: Lodgenet
Wireless Data Connection
Initial Fee: $0.00 (USD)
Service Provider: Lodgenet
Here's the link to the hotel listing:

Re: Ohio Meetup Interest Gauge Thread!
Count me in... tentatively. I ought to be back in the States by the 18th if we're doing it then, but I don't know for sure. My folks may be visiting around that time too, so the next weekend would be better for me. I'll keep you posted.

Re: Ohio Meetup Interest Gauge Thread!
Don't forget to include me in the hotel suite setup please!
Steve: That sounds awesome!
Was there a reason that the 18th was best for us? I'd greatly like to meet the Pirate King (not that he's that far from me now), and it'd be great to see Gitman again. It would be even better to see Hippie and Faerie, but I'm just going to have to plan a trip back down there sometime.

Re: Ohio Meetup Interest Gauge Thread!
The 18th-20th is best for me, but I suppose that's for a personal reason that doesn't much matter in the large scheme of things. It would be ideal for me, but I've got no real complaints if we were to shift it.
Although, it looks like people are already starting to plan around that weekend, so it might be too late to change.Remember when I had an avatar?

*sniff* I so wish this was happening this summer. I'm hoping to be in Ohio this summer until going over to Pennsylvania for school, but I definetly won't be able to make this There are so many cool forum-goers in this meet-up, but maybe next year!

Re: Ohio Meetup Interest Gauge Thread!
The 18th worked best for several of us at first, myself included because it prevents any academic requirements from building up (and this will not be a semester I can afford to fall behind on). But at this point, it's unfair to change things in light of what several more job-inclined people have had to go through in the name of getting time off. I'd like to meet as many people as possible, but changing the day now strikes me as bad form...

Re: Ohio Meetup Interest Gauge Thread!
We were part of the reason it was set up that weekend. It is a 3 day weekend for school down here, so we thought we could get away. Then it ended up being further north AND we found out we had an earlier expense than we expected. Our 6 month plan of saving turned into 3 weeks.
So, we want to see lots of pictures and hear lots of stories about the weekend.Spoiler

Re: Ohio Meetup Interest Gauge Thread!
But I so wanted to meet you and Hippie. Oh...well. That gets saved for another visit to Tennessee.
Question: Was anyone here thinking of playing the OOTS board game? It's a great way to take up an afternoon or evening. Though it is only for six people, an afternoon of any board games, like Apples to Apples, or I'm sure we can find a place to play Kubb if anyone has a set, is still great for everyone and as many people as who wants to can play.
I'm just throwing out an idea, since the Hall of Fame and the film festival are the only two thoughts for activities we've had yet. Those of us who want to could just come back to our out-of-towners' hotel room and play there.
(Also, does anyone coming have a copy of the board game? I'm sure I could get one...maybe...Indy? Can I borrow yours? )Remember when I had an avatar?
