OOC: Randel, you never said you were actually lighting the lantern. Gonna have to retcon that. In fact, reviewing your equipment it doesn't look like you have any way to light a fire. (And it doesn't seem as if lanterns come with a method by which to light them.) Feel free to add something for this purpose at usual cost... I'm going to assume for now that you'll obtain flint and steel.

IC: As the warforged tries to light the lantern with flint and steel, the wick of the lantern seems to refuse the sparks.

There are no answers to yells directed to the other 2nd floor wing.

After tending to the feral man's wounds, the healer priest tries other magic.

There is a flash of light as he finishes the cast, but it is gone as soon as it comes. His target, the shield, does seem to glow somewhat, but not enough to give any appreciable light. Strangely enough, it too refuses to cast a shadow.

Sorry for missing the text about lighting the lantern.

Taking your check on manifest zones in particular as I've pretty much said all I could say with regards to Mabar. (Except that Mabar will become coterminous in a little over a year, which you could have conceivably worked out. Also when it becomes coterminous, shadow seem darker and negative energy spells are a little stronger.) Although I might've given you the following for free.

Manifest zones are essentially connections to other planes by which it may be possible to travel to and from the connected plane. A Mabar manifest zone in particular would imitate the features of an area which is under the affect of a desecrate spell, in addition to consuming all light, perhaps with stronger parts of the zone having the ability to deal damage to anyone who enters through negative energy. However, these features, besides possibly the light consuming part, don't seem to be present in this area.

Manifest zones generally do not wax and wane with the coming and going of the planes. If they exist, they tend to be endure for a long period, or at the very least consistently reoccurring in the same general area. There were no stories overheard or even a hint of a manifest zone within the vicinity of the Inn.

"Thanks father." he said after he was healed and hurried to the front of the line once the spell fizzled. Rejuvenated and healthy, though still somewhat tired and sort-of weak, he looked on into the darkness. Things looked perfectly fine to him. Apparently there was something to do with the planes coming and going, he really didn't understand the specifics of such things. Sighing in impatience on this discussion while lives were at stake, he went to the front and carried on.

If I am not mistaken, it seems that Carmot has suggested that this will last more than a few hours, even to the effect of a few days. Nothing moves and nothing seems out of place as the Human in the back of the party creeps down the stairs alone. The only thing distinctive about the central room is its complete lack of people. It's expected that at least one of the Inns proprietor's would have kept watch, if not a guard hired to do so. But there is nothing.

All of the 1st floor doorways can be seen from this vantage point and they are all closed. There is the main entrance to the Inn and two side exits. Additionally, there are 2 doors that lead to the two 1st floor wings of the Inn.

Maybe that thing we captured has something to do with this! It seems that no one is around, so maybe if we kill it or research it or....or something! Just maybe we can figure out what happened, it just should not be this quiet He whispers to his mates. It was something, maybe the silent area, maybe the dark surroundings that made him want to whisper.

Well...maybe it's something about these weasels. Maybe they're some kind of transporters, and anyone who gets beaten by them moves to a different place. Or maybe when we beat them, we were transported here, which would explain why there is no one else here. The elf ponders briefly.

Whatever it is, we need to figure it out quickly, and we need to get out of here....or in there...or...whatever! I still believe it has something to do with that weasel thing we captured.

On a closer look, it seems as if the sheets were never even disturbed. The beds were obviously made, but it looks like no one has even touched them since, except in the rooms where the people here present have stayed in.

The only sounds are those of 4 people breathing...
