    Hearing the response, Dravick knows that there's not much chance of getting into the church, but he's not going to give up that easily. I'll giv eit one more go. I've got to stay on my toes though he already seems as if he's had enough of us. Keeping a close eye on the man without betraying his skepticism of the man, Dravick begins once again starts to speak, "Until dawn?" He asks incredulously. "Surely my friend here might find some divine solace inside these walls for a few minutes without first ahving to wait for dawn. Honestly, it would be worth half my fare to me if you just let him seek his repentance here. If you would allow him to make his peace, I will gladly donate half of my fare to the church." Dravick smiles as brightly as he can in the darkness and hopes that his new appeal softens the man's demeanor, while preparing to react to any physical attack from the man.

    Default Okay, then. Get ready, get set...

    Zan looked to Dravick questioningly. Realizing the situation was going to get ugly, he stepped back and to the side, so he was near to Dravick but not within immediate stricking range of the guard, and also had a good line of sight with him. He didn't have anything much to add to the arguement, either... he wasn't that good with words.

    Zan looked all confused.... he knew that this man would never let them in, but Dravick didn't attempt to do anything about it. At the same time, Zan didn't want to hurt the guy, there had to be something... something...

    Surian climbs quickly onto Kyte's shoulders and slips through the slit. He drops to the ground as quietly as he can, staying to the shadows and using his eyes and ears to take stock of his situation.

    If Surian fails his Move Silently check, and the boards would fall to the ground or something, Kyte would make a (reflex?) save to catch them. Otherwise I'll continue with this post.

    Meanwhile, Surian pries some slats out of the vent at the top of the warehouse wall with barely a squeak of the nails in the old wood. (EDIT:) Looking into the now man-sized hole at the top of the wall, he can barely see anything in the darkness below him, just vague large shapes, presumably the bales of textile material seen by the adventurers during the day. Surian throws a leg and arm up so he is holding himself in the gap he has made at the top of the wall. Kyte is then free to work on the back door, but he is unable to pick the lock.

    The cleric's hands balled up into fists. He had tightened them to the point of almost shaking, and forced them to release. As he did, his right hand pointed at the man in an accusing manner.

    "You are a disgrace to all that is good and honorable! Here we are, asking only for your hospitality, and you DARE tell us to go to the nine hells?"

    Zan readied himself. He waited only for Dravick's actions.

    As soon as Dravick sees the man begin to draw a weapon he takes a few steps back, attempting to stay out of range of a quick strike. Then he says, "What manner of church servant are you, that would threaten violence on the steps of a holy place?" Then narrowing his eyes he says in an entirely different and much more threatening tone, "My friend and I will enter this place now, if only to put an end to the evil deeds that you are concealing!"

    Then without a moment's delay he draws his longsword and prepares to fight the large man. As he does so he begins to sing in a voice loud enough for Zan to hear. His words are meant to inspire courage.
    "Tonight, we fight,
    to end the wrongs,
    and make them right.

    shall not prevail,
    and in their defeat,
    we shall not fail.


    The rest of the song fades into a general chorus about being great and winning the battle, with many repeated refrains and occasional derogatory remarks aimed at the large man in an attempt to cause him to make a mistake.

    The man's tough expression falters slightly, and he shouts over his shoulder into the church, "Oy!" He assumes a trained fighting stance, moonlight shimmering along the keen edge of his short sword. Still, he is not as fast as the two adventurers, who make the first move.

    Kyte manages to pop open the lock on the back door. Carefully looking inside, he sees the same thing as Surian - the interior is very dark, and all he can make out at this time are the silhouettes of the bales of fabric and raw materials.

    I hate when that happens. Very anti-climatic.

    Kyte moves slowly into the room, quietly closing the door behind him. He allows a few seconds for his eyes to adjust to the darkness, then moves silently through the building, looking and listening for anything that would be out of place in a sewing guild. He looks especially for doors, stairs, or hallways with entrances down them, and listens for voices, or sounds in the darkened place.

He quickly moves forward and to the side of those at thegate, nocking an arrow as he does so. Reaching an acceptable angle, he pauses briefly to aim, then looses his shot and draws again.

    Sorry for the double post, but... Yay for going first! (Unless the baddie rolls exceptionally well. In that case, ignore this post.)

    I'll better explain what Victor's doing. He's taking his full 30ft. move to get to the side of the combat (to negate cover), and also to try to be within 30ft. of the large man. If he's close enough to do this, add another +1 to both of the rolls below for point blank shot. other than that, they're not in melee yet, so I shouldn't be taking that penalty, so...

    The only things Kyte and Surian find in the warehouse are bolts of linen, a bolt of silk, and large rolls of cotton and wool held together by twine. A wrinkled piece of canvas covers part of the floor. A chamber pot is in the corner, and a lantern hangs from a rafter near the large front barn-style doors.

    The only thing they hear is the sound of the confrontation developing outside.

    Kyte, however, is not so easily convinced, and shakes his head. The group had a reason to suspect the weaver's guild for attacking them, he knew, and he wasn't going to be satisfied until he found everything there was to find in this warehouse.

    Hearing the sounds of battle outside, Kyte realizes things must have gone badly for the church-entering group, but uses the distraction they provide to search around a bit more. Removing the distracting sounds of battle from his mind, he moves to the piece of canvas covering the floor, and pulls it out of the way.

    Victor's arrow strikes the man in his right shoulder, throwing him off balance. Aulric swings and misses with his hammer, but Zan swings his scythe at the man's exposed abdomen and rips him open, guts spilling on the ground at his feet. The man stumbles one step backwards before falling, twitches once, then lies still on his side with unseeing eyes and breathless mouth wide open. Dravick steps forward cautiously and places the tip of his blade at the fallen man's throat, but no further action is necessary.

    The other two men rush out of the church, take one look at the blood-sprayed and wrathful adventurers facing them, and take off running away as fast as their feet will carry them.

    Bridgeport can be a pretty violent place in the rougher parts of town, but you may still want to do something with the body of this guy to avoid questions.


    Kyte gropes around in the dark warehouse. Under the canvas he finds a metal ring in the floor. After further examination, he sees that there is a trap door which may be lifted up by the ring. The door is well built, such that it blends well with the surrounding floor and does not rattle if walked across. Lifting the door, he can barely make out the first rung of a ladder going down into complete darkness.

Maybe it was luck, but... Oh well, my sword is not my best asset. It's my head. Oh, yeah, we've got to get this body out of the street.

    "Well done, Zan. But now we must move this body somewhere. I think that the alley behind the warehouse may be just the place. What do you guys think? Whatever we do we should do it quickly, before a night watchman happens along. I think we should see what those other two were up to in the church as well."
