"We're twenty out," Snowbird says. She's snapped a pair of binoculars over her eyes and is scanning the horizon. "Jay, you got Charlie the Tuna to wear his suicide belt yet? Come on, we need a dolphin jihadi here now."

Blue puts a hand to his head. "Of course. Why do I even bother asking these things?"

Moving to the front, Jay waits for a lull in the song before spewing more strange dolphin-speak. The tone is less exuberant than his last, but no less pointed. "What is it you would give to see them all destroyed?"

[Voshkod]

Jay's chirps carry over the roar of the engine. The alpha torpedo rides effortlessly on the bow wave of the cabin cruiser. He begins to sing of ancient wars, eons older then men (or shore apes, as he calls them with some derision). Wars of dolphins and worms. Battles which left hundreds of dolphins stranded on the coasts. And a burning rage to do whatever it takes.

Have they always been here? Blue wonders.

He'll have time to ponder the implications of all this later. If there is a later. "You may get your chance. We have a little surprise for them," he whistles, showing the canister, "and we'll need the toughest, fastest one around to carry it safely. The three back there are tough," a little jerk of his head toward his Shore Ape compatriots, "but fast, not so much."

"The worms will know. Or realize. None of us may come back, but especially the one with this." Half a smile crosses his face. "I doubt that would bother you."

Starling

Starling lounges against a bulkhead, cleaning his fingernails.

So is Flipper going to play along or what?

The alpha torpedo launches himself onto the deck in a sudden leap. He chirps, and Jay gets an image of water flowing chaotically, a streamlined body wearing the bomb. Seems he's accepted. In a few moments, the bomb is strapped on. Warmth in cold places, the dolphin whistles, and rolls back into the sea.

A few minutes later the engines cut off. "Last stop," Snowbird says, as she begins to pull her wetsuit on. "This is free diving, so make sure your weights are right and the quick release is working. The Forge reworked our blood, so no fear of nitrogen narcosis. You all ready for this?"

Sparrowhawk checks his equipment very carefully, ensuring that everything is in place. He stretches, and lifts his gun, firing a quick round of shots into the air. Finally satisfied, he heads over to the rail of the ship and, with a one final look at the ship, vaults over the side and begins to sink.

The water is warm as it engulfs you. You feel the orbs of your eyes start to shift, compensating for the ripples of the water. Suddenly you can see down, down into darkness below you, as clear as if you had a facemask.

Along the sides of the gun in your hands pink slits appear and open, revealing a fleshy interior. The slits flutter open and closed like gills.

Sparrowhawk looks at the odd armament for a minute. Ugh, that's kind of creepy.

Starling

Starling likewise checks his gear one more time before leaping into the drink and swims down next to Sparrowhawk.

Blue gets his gear on too, not overly wanting to dive in khakis.

Leaning over the railing, he asides to Snowbird, "I don't think he really bought it. If we can get an effective spread planting it without him attached, let's plan for that. Just in case."

Selecting and and buckling a knife to his thigh, he swings over the edge.
