The Thing: A Werewolf Game

((The following is a firsthand perspective written by the Assassin and slightly edited by me.))

I heard them again.

The others don't seem to hear the small noises at night while most of us sleep, but I do. The slithering, nearly inaudible sounds of movement in far reaches of the complex. And very rarely, a muffled scream as the demons take someone else.

I've stayed up the last few nights, unable to sleep, always afraid that they may notice that I can hear them. But I'm excited, too. Because I have a friend to protect me.

I've always a minor telepath; my exploits in the Psi-Nine haven't exactly stood out from the others. But then, they might change their minds about me if they knew about my bright, dancing friend.

It started as a little flame I could manipulate around my fingers, like a bright little firefly, but lately, when I can feel the fear and the terror of everyone around me, I've discovered that my flames have grown exponentially. When before I could barely cover my hand in flame, now the fire dances along the length of my entire arm and down my body. It also seems to have developed a slight bluish cast, which I suspect will grow stronger the longer I stay up here.

Fire ... My little friend... The only thing I can trust other than myself.

A thump from a room near my quarters. I stand and crouch, about to reach for my sidearm when I remember my fiery guardian. I steal towards the door, and I open the door a crack and look out into the corridor.

Nothing there. But the demons are a tricky sort, and could be elsewhere nearby, waiting to ambush me. I head toward the next room over, the one where I heard the thump, and I slide open the door.

A face turns to look at me. Ramebriz, I think is his name. The room is nearly pitch-black, but in the glimmer of light that filters through the door, I catch a glimpse of something ... his face looks monstrous, but then it is normal again ...

"What are you doing here?" he asks, but I don't respond. Was it a trick of the light? Did I really see Ramebriz's face change?

No. I'm not fooled. He's one of them.

No one can see it, but I can picture in my mind the flame streaming forth from my fingers to strike Ramebriz in his chest. And then the fire is running along the length of his body, and he's screaming and trying to beat out the flames consuming his flesh. But it has him now, and he can't get free.

His face twists into something monstrous. His lips lengthen and his mouth widens to reveal fangs ... his hands become claws, and suddenly he's racing at the door, lit up like a torch ...

I slam the door in his face, and I hold it closed as he beats at it in futility from the inside. Smoke and the smell of burning flesh seep into the corridor from the crack along the bottom of the door..

Eventually it stops. An alarm sounds, and I hurry off to my room.

One of the Things is dead. But now I know it could be anyone. There's only one way to make sure that the demons are all dead, and that's if I'm the only one left.

Come, my little dancing friend... We have monsters to kill...

Ramebriz was killed by the Assassin. He was a Thing.
Two more players were converted into Things in the night. There are now a total of six Things.
Day 3 now begins. It will end on Tuesday night at 10 p.m. Mountain Time.

Now that the Assassin's killed a thing, we have a bit more to work with. Tracking back through Ramebriz's points, she's pointed at No Lynch and Demonic Angel... Which, on second thought, still leaves me with a blank as to who to point at. A slim clue might be Demonic Angel, who was pointed at by Ramebriz, and might have retaliated with a kill, but I guessed the same thing last time when S.O.N.Y. was killed, which still leaves the killings as seemingly random. Once again, any other analysts feel like donating some input?

((Vote analysis isn't all that useful at this point. The Things don't start out with knowledge of eachother's identities, so it's perfectly possible that one Thing unwittingly tried to get another one killed at one point or another.
Because of recruitment, it's also difficult to check back with previous days and see if someone has been acting fishy or not, as people might have become a bad guy only after several days have already passed.))

The quiet, white-haired Ranger turns to face Gnome_4ever.

You were the first to accuse our collegue of being a Thing. He wasn't. Care to explain?

DA throws his combat knife, making it stuck onto the door, an inch or so from Fin.

"You... you were saved while that guy got a knife in his chest... I think we have our killer."
DA then picks his knife and put it back into his belt.
"We gotta find out who are the agents from the Psi-nine... there the only one capable to do a kill like this"

[I'm da Rogue!]

A rogue comes out of the shadows.
"Bushranger, instead of turning against each other, maybe we should see who was "rescued" by accusing Emperor Demonking.
And that was Fin.
Maybe Gnome_4ever is to blame, too, but if she's not, does that mean we'll have to kill you as well for pointing at her?"

Fullbladder slowly comes to after his day-long coma. Bleary eyed, he looks around at the happenings, finally letting out a short "Whu-?" before finally focusing on the task at hand.

He sees DemonicAngel point at Fin, and does the same, still out of it.

[Darkbane]

A figure steps out of the shadows. "Two days and we still don't have any leads. What are we supposed to do now, just kill each other off one by one and hope we get lucky? Every night, those Things are taking more of us...I don't like doing it, but I'll go along with the rest of you for now," he says, pointing at Fin. A haunted look in his eyes, he wanders off, humming quietly.

"Luck be a lady tonight..."

[Mustiado]

Oh god.... Oh god man...

-Mustiado toes Rambirez's charred remains, revulsion on his face-

I don't care if that was one of those things man, that could have been any of us... Now its not just some alien, but one of the Psi-nine is psycho too?

Take a look again. The order of players is merely the order in which people signed up for the game in the recruitment thread.

Freshmeat has a point, and usually a good one at that and i agree with him. Jumping on a random goosechase bandwagon hasnt gotten us anywhere yet and will most likely once again lead to the death of an innocent.

((Huh. Coulda sworn I saw you pointing at EDK a page back in a different post. Ah well, fixed. As I see no real reason to deviate from my past points, i'm continuing my previous point))

Vavaara looks around at the horrified faces of her comrades, and her gaze seems to once again be drawn to Fin. A nervous wreck before, he now seems to be on the breaking point, a look of mania in his eyes. In an effort to keep him from shooting at passing shadows and fellow teammates, she walks over and tries to assuage his fears.

*Vavaara points at Fin*

[Fleeing Coward]

Joins the Fin bandwagon.

It also interesting that only 2 people have been infected each night. Either a thing is holding back on infections or we've got ourselves a relatively inactive thing.

Greg the Grunt spots a bandwagon. He begins to sweat, and the left side of his mouth twitches upwards into a half-smile. His hand reaches out towards it, but with a herculean effort he manages to resist the temptation.

....Then his resolve breaks

"Bad Fin bandwagon bad! Kill you bandwagon, kill you!"

Greg leaps onto the bandwagon, jumping up and down on it like a drunk on an unfortuante passerby that looked at him funny.

[Shadowcaller]

"Hey, have any of you seen the remains of Ramebriz?"
"They seems to be...out of place, what have happend to him.. i mean beside the fire the remains seems strangely mutilated."
*Notices that everyone is pointing at Fin*
"Wait...what are you doing?...why are you suspecting Fin?
*Waits for answer*

[Fin]

In the face of almost certain death, Fin finally seems to settle his nerves.

Ok first, I'm da rogue I would understand your case if i had voted for emperor demonking but this is not the truth, I voted for Doseki and will do again today. When I am dead I am sure you will vote for him to. I believe I have said enough. If I survive this day I bid the baner protect me as I will be a target.

[Mordokai]

"First, I don't believe anybody would be stupid enought to do something this obvious. For this same reason I believe Fin to be innocent. I'm willing to take it upon myself I turn out to be wrong.

Rogue, you say that Fin was saved by the Demonking bandwagon. While this may be true, this bandwagon is doing the same for Gnome. I think Fin is done for, but I won't take part in this. We shall see where loyalties lay soon enought anyway."

[The Bushranger]

The ranger considers the words of the rogue.

You are probably right, milady. He then raises a pointed eyebrow at Fin.

Eksar thinks about it for a moment...

"a bandwagon has never been a good signal, and maybe Rogue has interests in Fin's death"
