AoW: The Whispering Cairn (Act I)

Jamian is currently preoccupied writing Kick Me on Akra's head in celestial and draconic using blood and chalk.

A great rumbling from below the chamber can be heard as the circular stone at the end of the tunnel rises eight feet into the air, pushed up by a 5-foot-diameter metal cylinder that seems to arise from the ground itself. Seconds after it comes to a rest two thin doors slide into the sides of the cylinder, revealing a small empty chamber. It seems to fit only one medium-sized creature at a time.

"Who's going first? I'll go second, and have my 'torch'."

"Ah. Interesting. I'll be delighted to hear what's down there."

"It would seem most sensible for the first person to go to be the one with the most protection," Jarel observes, looking at Jamian.

Jamian

Putting the final touches on the most interesting temporary mark he looks over to the new pathway. His eyes pierce through the darkness as he glances into the darkness, shades of black and white extending beyond the current light conditions. As suggested he will move ahead first, keeping an eye out for anything out of the ordinary.

Nothing is inside the chamber except for dust.

"You will probably have to get in and go down," Jarel prompts.

He looks around at the others. "By any chance would any of us have a way to communicate at a distance, unseen? A spell, a hidden talent?"

[Vampiric]

"I'm afraid my talents lie in healing and augmenting my ability to comprehend, not in communication, unfortunately..."

As soon as Jamian enters, the doors inmediately slam close, and the contraption lowers itself into the floor, continuing downward for a full round. As soon as the elevator stops, the doors slide open again.

The walls on this new room are covered in bas-relief images similar to the slender figure upon the sarcophagus lid in the chamber above. Nearly a dozen androgynous, hairless humanoids stand in poses of deference, almost as if they are paying homage to the viewer. Many extend their hands in adoration, their faces awash in adulation. several of the statues lack hands, arms, heads, or anything else easily hacked off by long-absent tomb robbers.

About fifteen feet to the south, a dark passage extends from an elaborately carved arch. Only a little of this hallway is visible, however, as a large stone block obscures most of the passage.

One round after Jamian exits the cylinder, the doors close and the contraption rises on a column of air. A button inset into the wall is seen near the bottom of the shaft.

Jamian

Wide eyed the bloodied warrior glances down the corridor of statues but does not dare move too far forward for fear of traps or creatures awaiting in the shadows. He strains his celestial eyes to see if he can spot anything significant or anything that happens to be hiding in his direct line of sight.

1 square south, Darkvision 60ft, no light source. I had a Sunrod, but I think I gave it away, maybe. It only lasts 6 hours, so I don't even know if it would still be operational.

A fine layer of dust covers everything on the room. The stone block is roughly 10 feet wide and 2 feet deep by 8 feet tall and nearly seals off the passage to the south. A large niche about the same size opens in the ceiling about 10 feet above it. Squeezing between the tip of the arch and the topof the stone slap may be possible.

((I was going to wait to see if anyone comes down as well, cause as awesome as Jamian is, wandering around a tomb alone is never a good idea.))

((I was rather thinking Jamain would come back up and tell us if it was safe before anyone followed him.))

Jamian

He glances back at the strange chamber and prods at the button, taking it back up if it does indeed return and nothing nasty pops out to eat his face.

(i'm fine either way. but i suggest you discuss this first next time.)

Nothing nasty pops out, Jamian returns to the tomb.

Jamian

When he returns to the tomb Jamian is covered in quite a bit of blood, his armor apparently ratcheting up how much it is pumping out to aid in the little charade. He waves his arms around wildly, "Death! Blood! OH GOD!"

Jarel doesn't seem to move, rather he suddenly is standing in front of Naomi with his sword drawn. "Find anything interesting?"

Jamian

Continuing to wave his arms around like a madman he flings blood at the walls, "God! Death! Blood! Potatoes!!!"

((i'm feeling compelled to impose a penalty on the bluff check for mentioning the potatoes, but he's rolling so good i don't think it'd make a difference. ))

((That was kinda the point. XD I can't see it being a +20 to sense motive as its not insane, seeing as he could have seen normal potatoes.))

Ironically, the blood drains from Milo's face, and goes even more pale than he was before. He clutches his staff and involuntarily takes a step back, eyes wide with fear.

Jamian

With a sigh he pauses his arms mid-wave and allows them to slump down at his sides. He shakes his head, "You guys have some serious problems. I didn't see anything and nothing attacked me, but that doesn't mean all that much. I'm headed back down. Follow me." And then he does just that if he can unless there is some reason he cannot head down.

Milo just about gathers himself, and sets off, quarterstaff still shining, after Jamian.

Naomi gives a nervous laugh. She had been surprised, to say the least, and shocked, but not so much scared.
She's the third to pass through the doors.
