I forgot you were playing Austria in the other game too... sorry about how that turned out.

Everyone has introduced themselves except Shishnarfne. I'd PM him, but I'm guessing some of you already have, so eventually he'll post in this thread. If no one recieves a response from him at all for most of the diplomacy period, let me know before next weekend. I don't think that'll be a problem though.

    EDIT: And see, no worries.

    And so it begins...

International concern rose during the spring, when Austrian and Chinese forces marched swiftly towards one another. In a tense diplomatic situation, several members of the international community are working hard to defuse bitter tensions between these two powers. "A war between China and Austria could be catastrophic," said Dorge Gonner, Press Secretary. "So many uncertainties, the largest of which is, where would they actually fight?"

    War With Italy!

The French Republic is now officially in a state of war with Italy. President Moodie le Wise cited the invasion of the traditionally French region of Piémont as an unforgivable act that clearly foreshadowed further aggression. President Moodie has been locked up with his military advisors and his most trusted foreign diplomats for the past 24 hours and has been unavailable for further comment. Suffice it to say that we expect the retribution handed to Italy will be crushing.

    Conflict In Versailles!

The Field Marshal of the French Army stormed out of the palace of Versailles tonight where he had earlier been discussing strategy with President Moodie le Wise. As the Field Marshal was leaving he is reported to have said "Marseilles can fend for itself. The march to Portugal will not be stopped." It would be a rash move for the Field Marshal to disobey orders like this - assuming he had been ordered to protect Marseilles, which we cannot at this time confirm - but anybody who heard the determination in his voice must give serious consideration to the possibility.

    Austria declares war on Italy!

In response to the aggressive maneuvers into Piedmont the Ionian Sea toward Greece, the Austrian Emperor Viggo released this statement:

"We desire the days of Machiavelli in Italian politics. The unification of the Italian state was never intended to be under Roman Catholic rule. Cesar Borgia should have taught the world their lesson about temporal control by the Church. We are in the unfortunate position of going to war with such a state. We cannot allow the spread of Catholicism across the world. We are sure the Islamic, Confucian and Hindu states will agree with this.

As a result, we are forced to move our armies into Tyrolia."
