Default feedback for great ideas: show some love

the other day i was reading one of vorpal tribble's fiend folio creations, the rose immortal. he mentioned in response to someone else's question (the nature of which i do not remember anymore) that no one had ever come back to him and told him how his creations worked in their roleplaying experience.

that got me thinking, and i doubt that tribble is the only one who has wondered how other people have used their creations, and if they enjoyed them or not. i personally have not seen much feedback that actually comes from playstesting and use on these boards (though i s'pose that i am not the most observant person in the world...).

so, without further ado: some of my feedback. and i would encourage others to post their own feedback here. give a little background on how it was used, and what was great about it. if you can, try to link to the original creation. spoiler it if needed for length purposes.

probably one of my all-time favorite homebrew works of genius. i used this marhsall variant for a campaign that started out in the birthright setting (perfect mesh btw), and my regent ended up being some sort of a prophet-like, beloved-of-the-masses hero. not only is the class just outright cool, it fit my character concept like a glove, so well in fact that when i found the homebrew, i persuaded my dm to allow me to remake my character, with this as his base. he was a multi-class warlock.

what is not to like about this? i loved this concept from the get go, and brought it into use with an npc that I was running in an athasian campaign. scared the living daylights out of the group. totally freaked them out. and then of course came the requests to learn the arts. cool stuff katarl.

just what I had been looking for. in particular, annihilating blast did the same thing for the eldritch blast that the five-headed coolness and bahamut’s blast did for the dragonbreath adept (which has neat mechanics in my opinion, but weird flavor). and voice of doom, so simple, so innocent, so cool. that one ended up being my very favorite. flavor-wise, it added tons to the marshall-warlock of mine. he used it to great effect in the chaos and noise of battle. and it was amazing how he could quite a disruption in his diplomatic meetings, and speak to masses of people at the same time without worrying that they would not hear him. cool stuff.

dude, you took a cool concept with a moderately cool mechanic, and made it scary. this prc is one of the few that i instantly thought would be cool to go all 10 levels. most of them kind of strike me that way after a few times looking at it, or after much strategizing—but this one made the perfect build by itself for a tribal-type killer I dreamt up.

ok, this one I have not used yet, because I am still in the planning stages with it. however, it is already exciting me beyond normal measures because it ties two of my favorite new systems together, and fixes some of the hang-ups that I have had with truenaming. it is going to play a *huge* roll with my favorite npc in the world, one that is trying to find the common origins of all magic in the world, err, verse. i meant verse.

this is all off the top of my head. when I come up with more, i’ll post them here. good job guys. you’re all homebrewing fiends. keep up the good work. aaron out.

no one has any post-play feedback for any of the creators of the stuff they are so freely utilizing?

har har har. this is not so much for stroking egos--although everyone can use a clap on the back once in a while--as it is for giving the hard workers here at the playground the applause, and the knowledge of how their stuff has been used.
