Re: The Order Of The Stick: January
Hmm - I take it we're witnessing a natural one on an "attack with thrown creature" roll? ;)
Now if you don\'t mind, I am somewhat preoccupied telling the laws of physics to shut up and sit down.

Re: The Order Of The Stick: January
Item (1)
I believe that little animal thingy was a "Weasel", notice the popping sound it made as it "unfurled" when out of the bag of tricks. Hence it would be a "Pop goes the Weasel" reference.... now that's going back, maybe Rich (aka Keith?) is older than his avatar seems?
Item (2) Love the Indiana Jones ref.. lol
Item (3) I do hope that Belkar's "steed" has survived, to be continued...
Item (4) Nice job of using the Roy at the back reference Rich. Loved Haley's comments... ;D
Item (5) As I recall when Roy went to buy a weapon the guy had none, nada, not a 1, hence nothing for him to buy. But then, could he not borrow Elan's rapier? ???

Ugh, Richard, you should be ashamed. "Hi, ho, Silver"?!? You set up that lame thing the strip before when Roy named his horse Silver just so he could say that in the next strip?!? I feel dirty.

Every time I see that little war Dachshund, I spit coffee on my screen. Pure genius.
Is it too late to send this in for a Pulitzer? Or Nobel? Or something?

Re: The Order Of The Stick: January
What exactly is the weinerdog *doing* in the first row of today's strip? Is it:
1. Biting the ogre's arm?
2. Making a pitiable attempt at fighting and failing?
3. Something else?New Terminator movie = Awesome!

Re: The Order Of The Stick: January
Great strip, but I must admit I did get a little bit extra out of it.
In an old 2ed campaign we had I had a ranger who found a stone horse. Figuring this solid stone statue was worth heaps and after trying many command words, organised the redistribution of the entire parties goods so he could drag it home.
My brother (the DM) had sickly made the command word "Hi Ho Silver". So had that been my charachter atop his mighty steed, I would have just been vaulted off a large stone statue of a horse...Visit my Blog @ www.iambournie.blogspot.com

Re: The Order Of The Stick: January
Sorry, Roy... but this one's really stupid. Remember back in #118? "No, Elan, no, I don't need that magic sword you found. I'm gonna get this one reforged..."
And then the one so proud of his MBA walks into a subquest clearly crawling with monsters without a real weapon. Now the whole party's in danger just because Roy wanted to play Aragorn.
Let's just hope Elan still has this sword at hand and didn't trade it for that Wizard-cloak extraordinnaire.
Greetings,
Terandir

Fact: Roy has a low wisdom score.
Therefore, we may assume that he thought the town would be actually useful. Which they probably have in his past experience.

Re: The Order Of The Stick: January
Even so, not having a backup weapon, not even a ranged weapon, is a little unusual for a fighter (D&D or not) and certainly unwise.

Re: The Order Of The Stick: January
I'll grant you the lack of any missile weapon is unusual but not the lack of a backup weapon. The game system really pushes fighters to invest all their "skills" (i.e., feats) in one narrow kind of weapon and the magic item rules pushes everyone to dump everything into one specific weapon. The latter has been somewhat changesd in 3.5 by the changes to how DR works. But only somewhat.
So, yeah, when Bob the Fighter has his +5 flaming, acid, icy, lightning sword of DOOM he is kick butt but if he loses it he's stuck using a rusty longsword that he stashed in his gear 3 years ago and hasn't brought out since.
P.S. Wizards are even more screwed if anything happens to their spellbooks.

Re: The Order Of The Stick: January
Okay, the spellbook thing is true, but with the sidearms? I think not. Ok, they wont be magic (as its too expensive), but he was in a town. Or he could have gotten that sword. Or a dagger. Or anything.

Even with penalties for non-proficiency he's still got as good a chance as the rest of them at hurting something.
Too bad Elanicalicus didn't give Roy his 8-ball staff. ;)Good. Bad. I\'m the guy with the gun.

and as an aside, wow, some of you really amaze me on what you retain from prior strips!!! kudos to you all :)
