Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion (Part V)
No, because it's still a lot more wood. The amount of wood in your typical pykrete brick is the same as a good few planks from your typical wooden ships. The difference is that the wood is chipped and compacted and frozen into place together, forming the heavily resistant pykrete.
Anyways, pykrete is not ice, which was the original topic here. I'm fairly certain there's a few low-level spells that could regenerate the felled forestry, probably allowing for a pykrete armada, but it's still fairly unlikely given the alternates (Wall of Iron for example)Last edited by Lyinginbedmon; 2008-05-15 at 04:40 PM.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion (Part V)
Actually, Pykrete is anywhere from 10 to 14% sawdust by weight. That is not to say that this still is a good idea, because icebergs generally stick out of the water about 10% of their entire mass. That means that one would need a heck of a lot of wood (in sawdust form) and water to get the ship to look mostly a ship and not a submarine.
I'm thinking maybe something magical is infused in the ice (if the ships are made out of ice) to increase heat tolerance, reduce mass, and maybe increase the strength/resistance to crushing/smashing.If you want a OotS style Touhou avatar, send me a request.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion (Part V)
Which again makes it way less cost effective than just using Wall of Iron and making iron-hulled ships.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion (Part V)
I am impressed by your mastery of trivia... or google-fu.
Anyway, yes, Project Habakkuk, the British operation during WW2 to create an entire air carrier made of ice. The idea was a lot cooler (pun totally intended) in theory than in practice, for the reasons you've pointed out.
However, the world of Avabaroy practically runs on the Rule of Cool and, as the heirs to some of the mightiest mages ever to walk Avabaroy, the Alphanticans are well equipped to make ice ships actually work.
The idea for a magical Habakkuk actually came from a series of novels I read a while back, Harry Turtledove's Darkness series. Its essentially WW2 as if set in a fantasy world. In the novels, the nations of Lagoas and Kuusamo, the series's analogues of Britain and the US respectively actually work together to create an dragon carrier, an air carrier for dragons, made of ice and sawdust, using magic to keep it from melting in warmer climates.Visit the Chocolate Hammer IRC channel!

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion (Part V)
Hello again ABR people. I might try to join ABR again. Third time is a charm, right? If I do join, it won't be for a while. The reason for this delay is that I'm currently attempting to conquer a foe more powerful than many of you:
However, I have recently managed a minor victory, and produced something some of you may recognize.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion (Part V)
So Lavidor can go full-dragon now?
Hmm...an ally for Vert Doom...I may need to drag out the Rangers or the Red Whispers for this...
I wouldn't worry too much about Nameless, he deals more with collecting the already dead, rather than the actual killing.Last edited by Lyinginbedmon; 2008-05-16 at 04:11 PM.

Re: Avatar Battle Royale Discussion (Part V)
who says you can't?
I'm sure you could. I just havent seen anybody try though.
Besides, with the plot, I think a priority right now for me, is to talk to him.
not negotiation, I just want to know his powers. At least then I'd know how to kill him.Dark Souls Remake in a Nutshell
