Australia has planned to increase its military power for several years and the sudden unexpected use of nuclear weapons on Ukraine has caused it to put these plans into action immediately.

Robert Daniels assures his people that now more than ever they are in need of their armed forces and military spending.

Since Australia is a waterlocked country and refuses to use nuclear weapons Robert has decided to invest heavily in completely restructuring and improving its air force.

He has also given businesses more freedom and funding to start up in Australia. Entrepreneurs are invited to immigrate freely and are promised government support if they do not have enough money of their own in return for shares in their businesses.

In addition Australia is opening its boarders to immigrants from Europe such as the Ukrainians who no longer feel safe in their homeland. Any wealthy, skilled or influential people will be immediately let in and have all their needs accommodated.

    Technology
All 13 points in tech will currently be used to invent superior aircraft.

Australia is pooling all its greatest minds together to create the most advanced military aircraft possible. Main areas of research are creating lighter building materials, miniaturizing current systems and increasing speed and durability at a safe rate.

Another major focus is creating the best stealth bombers.

    To New Zealand
Australia continues to urge that New Zealand take its offer to join because of the recent nuclear attack. Robert cannot guarantee that New Zealand can be protected from incoming attacks without its full cooperation. He also states to leader of New Zealand that his country is a liability to Australia's protection from potential invaders because if it is taken over it could be used as an outpost for further attacks. If it is attacked Australia may be forced to occupy it to protect its own freedom and New Zealand's. Robert says he is confident in Australia's greatly improved military and says he cannot say the same for New Zealand and its leader must concede his country is vulnerable to attack as it is now.

To world leaders from Robert Daniels, Prime Minister of Australia
I strongly disagree with the action EU has taken and I wish to help the Ukrainians by welcoming them to Australia.

It is unfortunate to know that my nation's trade with the EU has helped fund this attack which I feel is equivalent to a blatant act of terrorism. However, I cannot immediately withdraw my trade agreements with it because they represent nearly one third of my countries total trade and doing so would cause a serious blow to Australia's economy which would make me unable to help the displaced people of Europe and my own.

If this situation continues to escalate I may be forced to withdraw trade but I cannot do so now as my nation's bankruptcy would no doubt lead to further global deterioration in one way or another.

I do believe the EU, with its vast economic wealth, should seek to pay Ukraine reparations for the damage they caused. It can never replace all the lives that were lost but I believe it is not much to ask for the EU to make payments over several years to help rebuild Ukraine's economy.

@Wizard: Is there a point during the turn at which one's budget needs to be fixed and posted here?

edit: Also @Wizard: Is it too late to renegotiate trade deals for the second turn? We're only about a seventh of the way into the first turn. That is, if nations that have trade deals for turn 2 with the EU cancel them, do they still have time to negotiate new deals for turn 2?

    Tentative Budget for UCA, 2051-2055

2 Wealth to raise Spy by 1
2 Wealth to raise Pop by 1
4 Wealth to raise Eco by 2
6 Wealth to raise Tech by 3
2 Wealth to raise Civil by 1

[Fluff on that to come] edit: Here cometh the fluff.

A convention of the UCA National Congress has approved a budget for the fiscal period 2051-2055. An eighth of the budget will go to an expansion of the UCA's covert agencies, creating a new branch dedicated to foreign grassroots organizing. An additional eighth will be used to expand the nation's healthcare systems, with the intent to raise population. A fourth of the budget will be devoted to expansion of government industries to take full advantage of projected trade goods. The largest portion of the budget, at three eighths, will be directed to increasing the nation's tech levels, bringing the most cutting edge civilian technology to more and more of the population, and funding additional research universities. Finally, the last eighth of the budget will be used to fund an expansion of the bureaucratic sector in anticipation of the ever-increasing difficulty of managing a large nation.

Ukraine votes for Mr. Guevara's resolution in the UN General Assembly, and for the sake of doing so, proposes a similar resolution to the Security Council, if only to bureaucratically confuse the EU's veto power.

The Ukrainian military makes no move to stop the Russian peacekeeping forces and accepts their aid in border defense. There are a few near-incidents due to inexperienced draftees and shakiness in the Federal Republic C&C structure, but nothing of import. The army as a whole cooperates with the Federation in securing the western border.

Ukraine has also accepted Federation Inc.'s offer of civilian humanitarian aid.

With international support growing, the Verkhovna Rada has delivered an ultimatum to the European Union, demanding the following:

    • That Moeris Villera and all members of the European Union Strategic Command resign their positions and submit themselves to an international court of law for war crimes trials.
    • That the European Union pay reparations in the form of 26 points of wealth over a time period later to be decided.
    • Full cooperation and technological aid from the EU in containing and repairing the damage done to the Ukrainian lands by radiation
    • A formal apology for the whole unprovoked attack, not simply the collateral damage.
    • All of the terms listed in the UN Resolution, including but not limited to permanently resigning their UN Security Council position, dismantling any and all WMD production lines and submitting to indefinite probation from ever creating them, and accepting trade sanctions.

Failure to submit to these conditions will result in military action by the Federal Republic of Ukraine against EU interests.

Life in a Globalized, Free-Market world, while much better than the feudal and aristocratic systems that preceded it, resembles the Hobbesian state of nature. That world's focus on individual power and unending desire for new wealth has resulted in the the life of the individual (and the peaceful nation) being solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and, above all, short. Through cooperation we elevated ourselves from animal levels, and it is only through cooperation that we can remove ourselves from the sphere of petty conflict entirely.

CMJS Comdemns EU Use of Nuclear Weapons, Demands Immediate Withdrawal of EU from Ukraine

"This callous disregard for human life is inexcusable. That this allegedly Christian government would so blatantly ignore one of its most important rules, 'Thou Shalt Not Kill', exposes it as nothing more than the insane power-monger than it truly is. We join the international community in calling for an immediate EU withdrawal from the Ukraine, and for the leaders responsible for this terrible atrocity to be tried by an international tribunal."
-Official Statement from the National Legislature Committee of Foreign Affairs

    CMJS in the UN

The CMJS representative votes in favor of the resolution proposed by the delegate from Argentina. She further proposes another two resolutions:

    1) UN recognition of the newly-independent Greece and Cyprus.
    2) A UN Coalition to remove the EU from the Ukraine, and depose the regime responsible for this completely unnecessary bloodshed, should it not heed the condemnation of the international community.

Re: Australian Defense Expertise on New Zealand

"The CMJS would like to thank Despot Daniels for pointing out the military weakness of New Zealand. It is a model democracy with an unusual amount of regard (at least, in a capitalist nation) for the welfare of its citizens, and we certainly wouldn't want to see it threatened. Those of us fortunate enough to have a strong military have a duty to protect those of us who do not, and it is surprisingly forward-thinking of Daniels to offer to protect his neighbors."

"Still, there is definitely no need to occupy New Zealand by any party for any reason. However, to allay Daniel's fears of an invasion being launched from an occupied New Zealand, the CMJS would like to formally propose a mutual protection pact with New Zealand. Should any foreign power move on New Zealand, it would of course fall to us to safeguard their freedom. We also call upon our ALPHA allies to make a similar pledge, to make sure that there is no need for conflict in the South Pacific."
-Official Statement from the National Legislature Committee of Foreign Affairs

Provincial Legislatures Announce Completely Open Borders

Nearly all of the provinces have opened their borders to any sort of immigration from any country, with citizenship being freely granted to anyone who wants it. Additionally, an advertising campaign is launched worldwide about the professional and educational opportunities in the CMJS, and monetary and lease incentives are given to highly-qualified professionals that decide to emigrate to Mexico. Particular attention is given to material scientists, chemists, nanotechnologists, doctors and electrical engineers.

    Socialized Childcare Now Operational

The CMJS has set up a country-wide system of boardinghouses and schools, that aims to allow any child to become a ward of the state and live a happy, well-cared for life. The aim here is to boost the birth rate by eliminating the abortion rate, because caring for the child will become a nonissue. The funding also allows a stipend for potential parents to pay for a child they may be considering regardless of their means, so material resources do not get in the way of family planning.

((Both of these are accounting for the population increase))

    CMJS To Become Latin-American Powerhouse

Several Provinces have voted to allocate large amounts of production to the construction of Nuclear, Geothermal and Tidal power plants, though the main focus is on Nuclear power. The CMJS makes sure that this is strictly for non-military purposes, and invites UN weapons inspectors to all of its construction sites. They also begin construction of huge electrical vehicle, motor and industrial equipment manufacturing plants, with the aim to make the CMJS completely independent of fossil fuel in the next five to ten years.

((Spending on economy is almost entirely directed at this))

CMJS moves toward the Transparent Society

The National Legislature passed a measure to require all legislators, provincial commanders and all levels of government operatives (with the minor exception of the CMJS Intelligence Agency, which is only outlined broadly) to monthly declare their actions, policies and spending online. The archives are available for all to see, and the citizens are encouraged to look over them should they have an issue with a representative. A hotline is established to handle allegations of wrongdoing, and a judicial organization is created to handle them.

    ((Spending on Civil))

Major Overhaul, Expansion of Higher Education

The CMJS university system is seeing a major remodeling, as the stuffy older system is replaced with a new system which focuses on innovation and learning-by-doing. The old system of lectures and study is still there, of course, but work-study activities are now strictly mandatory in the industrial sector, which is possible because the state runs both the schools and the factories. New funding pours in, though it is shunted mostly toward the hard sciences and engineering departments, but some does end up in the humanities. Grants are handed out freely for ideas that seem reasonable, and this is used to synergize with the CMJS's attempt to attract foreign expertise.

WizCoat: Let me know what I need to roll for this.

"In an emergency session of the Turkish Central Precinct Council today, a diplomatic condemnation of European Union action against Ukraine was unanimously passed. However, trade will still continue with the aggressor power. "We have a long history of foreigners attempting to violate the sovereignty of our nation by supporting independence of various groups. Ukraine's actions, in our mind, were a declaration of war. We do not, however, support the use of nuclear weapons against them.

Any Ukrainian civilian may freely immigrate to Turkey, after proper medical care is distributed and only if all the proper paperwork is in order. Governments should not endanger their populace.

In a brokered deal today, Turkey supports Armenian claims in the conflict with Azerbaijan in exchange for a quieting of the Kurdish minority. The Kurdish people will also get an extra seat on the Central Precinct Council, up for review in 1 year.

Greek independence from the EU will not be tolerated. Cyprus is sovereign Turkish territory. Since the massive increase in Greek nationalism can only be seen as a threat to Turkey, we are forced to declare war on Greece. We have no designs for Greek homeland territory, but Cypriot Greeks have two weeks to depart for safer climes.

Several military detachments were sent out from Turkey today. 2 were placed under the command of European Union generals. Veto power for their actions still rests in domestic hands. Another 2 are ready for Ukrainian peacekeeping operations. 4 were sent to Cyprus to secure the ancient Turkish control of the island.

    Business for the turn:

    Trade
    4:4 EU
    4:4 Ukraine
    4:4 Russia

Wealth ++24, full upkeep --13, total spendable ==26, 13 stat boosts

2 to Social, brokered deal with Armenians and Kurds should stop any sabre-rattling. Also, Kurdish history is now required curriculum alongside Turkish and Armenian history in schools. It will be phrased as unified history rather than individual to bring everyone closer together. Statues of Armenian and Kurdish leaders will be raised outside the capital in Ankara, as well as in key tourist areas along the Black Sea and Mediterranean.

4 to Army, raising total to 14. These units will be specially trained in nation-building techniques -- policing, distributing resources, languages, et cetera. One of these specifically will be trained from Armenian troops for the actions in Armenia.

2 to Population. Radiation treatment centers will be quickly built to handle the fallout from the EU nuclear attack, as well as an aggressive immunization program (similar to the United States' style, I'm not even sure what they all are). These crisis health centers will also include information on fertility, how to effectively handle extra children, and lots of religious propaganda -- "go forth and multiply" along with a smattering of Maoist philosophy "the way to survive in the nuclear era is to have a massive population."

5 to Economy. 1 of this will go to education, identifiying the youngest and smartest children and putting them in intensified educational programs. Another 1 will go to scholarship programs for these children if they are unable to afford universities. An aggressive exchange program will also be established, focusing primarily on the most effective economic nations -- the United States, Japan, Germany and the like. Two will go to expanded infrastructure -- an effort to have broadband internet access in every home in the nation, much like South Korea, as well as a government-run free library of every book ever published ever. The last one will be in tax breaks to the following sectors, in order -- high-tech, heavy industry, medical. This will be focused 75% on building up domestic industry, but 25% of this will also be for foreign direct investment in a special area along the Mediterranean coast.

    Military:

    Armies

2 on loan to the EU for border protection. These are under STRICT instructions to go nowhere NEAR Ukraine.
    2 to Ukrainian peacekeeping operations.
4 to Cyprus to **** the Greeks up.
4 concentrated around Constantinople, heavy training for war.
4 concentrated around Ankara, heavy training for war.

    Navy

2 to the Black Sea doing training exercises, especially assisting the population of Ukraine -- food, medical treatment, et cetera -- and, if any desire to leave, taking them back to Turkey. The army units there will also assist in this process.

3 to the Mediterranean blockading Cyprus. No ship may enter unless it is Turkish, and heavy protocols will be established to ensure proper identification of ships. Special contact must be made to high Naval authority by any international ship entering Cyprus, and they will be subject to a full and thorough search. The punishment for insufficient searching of a ship is tantamount to mutiny (i.e. death). Any ship may leave Cyprus at any time for any reason.

3 to protect Turkish ports from possible Greek naval retaliation.

    Air Force

5 on high alert to repel Greek air attacks.
4 on aircraft carriers to make the fall of Cyprus cake.

    Spy:

5 goes to spying on Greek air force activity
2 goes to Bulgarian general military activity

@viggo: 2 wealth is needed for every point of stat upgrades. (it's a 2 for 1 deal)

Also your stats are not changed until the beginning of the next turn. So you only have 10 armies at the ready, at best. And just a hint, Cyprus is an island...you might want to assign some naval forces to any operations there. (in the future the failure to do so by anyone will just result in a failure of the action in question)

@moody: Your free to change trade all throughout your turn at any point. Everything takes effect at the start of the next. (note if someone decides to cancel all trade like 1/2 a day before the deadline in order to minimize his own losses and ensure the other player has no time to negotiate new deals, then the other player will have a few days to renegotiate his trade too though...I'm not letting people use the rules to an advantage that wasn't intended)

1 point of spy used each to identify and connect with pro-Argentine communist movements in South America (restricted to Chile, Peru, Bolivia, and the Guays) and in southern Africa (restricted to outside of the sovereign nation of South Africa). I rolled a 4 on the first one (South America) and a 1 on the second one (Africa).

My primary effect for both of these is getting the job done, and the secondary cover-up.

So they both succeed, right? I believe you said that finding groups like this only took a roll of 1.

(Now that Wizard has confirmed we can change our trade any time this week I'll be switching my trade around.)

After seeing the terrible loss of life caused by the nuclear attack on Ukraine, Australia seeks to cancel all economic ties with the EU and instead asks other nations in support of Ukraine if they would be willing to do the same and trade with Australia. Australia also cancels trade with Turkey, not out of any kind of spite but because it simply does not believe Ukraine's actions were acts of war and does not want to be involved with anyone supporting the EU.

Australia seeks to trade with New Zealand, Philippines and Malaysia as much as possible. Ideally trading 4:4 with each of them. Each country who accepts this major trade agreement is promised military protection by Australia.

If the above countries do not/cannot trade the amount requested Australia will ask the following countries in the order they are named to trade with it: Singapore, Thailand, Bangladesh, Vietnam.

I would like to withdraw my statement that Australia would trade with Tanzania, Mozambique and Kenya because after I looked them up I realized they were too poor to be medium powers for 1:1 trade.

So if successful my revised trade list will look like this:

    Indonesia: 5:5
    New Zealand 4:4
    Malaysia 4:4
    Philippines 4:4

My goal is to trade with countries closest to mine not controlled by players to create unity in the area.

Is there a limit to the amount of military units that African rebel groups can buy, or that we can sell? Are they only looking for army (tanks) or could they use a few units of air as well?

If my spying action a few posts ago turned up any promising candidates in Africa, I'd like to use my remaining three spy points to infiltrate these groups, radicalize them along Marxist lines, increase their pro-Argentine leanings, and clean them up and make them respectable, before I send any equipment over. That previous sentence constitutes my primary objective. Can I waive the secondary objective of covering it up in order to add the secondary points to my primary objective? Maybe even just half the secondary points? I don't really care about covering it up, because there's no way I could cover up the actual arms transfer later anyway. Here are rolls for it (in post #9). So, 5 primary, 2 secondary. I only want to go ahead with this part if my agents were able to find a suitable candidate (relatively Marxist-leaning, popular movement in an unstable country), so please let me know ASAP what happened with that. And, I assume, if that is not the case, I can consider the three spy points described above as unused, since this is a contingent plan.

Simon Quirrel elected president under new Swiss constitution
The people of Switzerland elected its first president under the recently reformed constitution. S. Quirrel noted in his victory speech that even though the new Swiss government has changed significantly, it's been a relatively stable change, especially in light of the fact that the 2050 was a tumultuous year, with many governments undergoing major reformations. He added that he liked what he saw in many of the changes, home and abroad, and predicted a new time of peace and prosperity.
-clip from Newsweek, dated two days before European missiles landed on Ukrainian soil

Ten questions with Swiss President S. Quirrel:
    Spoiler

Q: Under the new Swiss constitution, Swiss corporations may now send representatives to the House of Representatives?
A: Yes, the House is made up of corporations, cantons and a few wealthy individuals. Each corporation, or in some cases a group of corporations, sends a number of representatives equal to the proportion of the last national budget that they paid in federal taxes. If you're particularly wealthy, you may apply for your own representative; otherwise individual taxes are applied to individual cantons to send representatives in a proportional manner like the corporations.

Q: So essentially those with the money call the shots? Isn't that somewhat elitist?
A: Not really. It's thier money that makes the government run. They deserve to have some say in the matter. Besides, the Senate, which composes the other half of the legislature, is still elected by popular vote of Swiss citizens, as is the presidency.

Q: What is the Swiss response to the European Union's recent nuclear strike?
A: A sad matter, that. I think it may be a case of misunderstanding and tragic overreaction. The Red Cross was dispatched immediately, and the Swiss government is contributing to thier humanitarian efforts in the Ukraine. I just hope that the international community and the UN can prevent this from escalating, though I suppose continuing might be a more appropriate word here.

Q: Aren't you worried that about the new direction the EU has taken? Surely as a country surrounded by them you must have concerns about your own independence?
A: Not really. Switzerland has a strong tradition of neutrality and I think the EU will respect that. They'd have little to gain by invasion, as our economy would largely be shattered and there are few natural resources to speak of. If threatened we can mobilize most of our population; our many mountain strongholds would make invasion a daunting task at any rate. Suffice it to say that I not concerned about it.

Q: What is your response to Europe's announcement that trade relations with your country have been suspended?
A: I'm not ready to accept that just yet. Traditionally there have been strong trade relations between Switzerland and the EU and I doubt that all trade would be dropped so readily. If the EU leadership is truly ready to sever the ties between our economies, I will wish them the best for the future but have no doubt we will find others to trade with.

Q: So you're perfectly willing to trade with the EU despite threats of international economic sanctions?
A: This is a tricky issue for us, one I hope that other nations will try to understand. The EU is our one and only neighbor. Most nations have a handful of neighbors that they may trade with; if they decide not to trade with one of them, they have two or three others that they may turn to. Let us also not forget that all shipments to and from Switzerland must pass through the Union's territory.

Q: In your campaign you promised to increase the population. How exactly are you planning on accomplishing this?
A: Well, we have several programs in the works, but the one coming online in just a month or two would give Swiss citizens the option of receiving a stipend for having one parent stay at home part time, full time in the last three months of pregnancy. You are also given an incentive to take care of other children during your stay at home time. The theory is that if the stay at home parent wants to find find part time work, or even wants to go to work full time, they should have many superb choices for childcare. It essentially allows families to have many children without as much financial pressure.

Q: That could take some time before you see significant numbers.
A: Yes, well we're also seeing a lot of European immigration, probably as a reaction to recent events. They are welcome to stay here, though I expect most to return home once they see their homelands have been restored to a peaceful state - something I expect to happen quite soon.

Q: You have some major economic programs planned, care to expand?
A: Well, the banking institutions are increasing their gold reserves, which should help stabilize the Swiss Frac even more, and we're investing heavily in our schools of economics at the university level. If you want advice on running an economy, there should be few other places in the world that can compete with our knowledge and theories. We have a team scrutinizing investment opportunities abroad as well as at home, particularly in our precision machining facilities.
We're also setting up operations for a new transport initiative for economical shipping using high altitude zeppelins. We're developing techniques to sequester the hydrogen safely as well as chart out the high altitude wind currents.

Q: Hydrogen? Isn't that dangerous? What about helium?
A: Helium's become too expensive to do economically. Hydrogen is not as dangerous as you might think. A full zeppelin's hydrogen hasn't much more explosive power than the fuel tank of one today's commercial airliners. By shipping along the jet stream routes, we should be able to save tremendously on fuel as well as access many areas inaccessible by sea vessel.

Switzerland's aid has been accepted and logged in my updated budget above.

OOC: **** it, I'm still way too awake, so I might as well respond now.

Chairman Reign, we accept the European Union's willingness to discuss terms, and appreciate the gesture of agreeing to the first on our agenda. Now, ignoring your empty and hypocritical posturing for a moment, we have the following items to discuss before the Federal Republic of Ukraine and our allies can consider the matter settled:

    • Reparations payments. Our request on the table remains 26 Wealth in reparations and punitive damages. Our budgetary analysts have calculated the immediate effects of the nuclear attack to have been 22 Wealth worth of damage, in addition to the currently incalculable effects of nuclear fallout, radiation poisoning, and economic disruption. We will be willing to reduce our demands to this 22 Wealth figure if and only if the EU commits to the next term. We will accept installment payments as small as 6 Wealth per five years, at a five-annual interest rate of 5% of the remaining balance.
    • Full cooperation from the European Union in the research and implementation of fallout-removing technology. Until we have a commitment from the EU to swiftly and effectively remove the lingering effects of the radiation from their attack, there can be no certain peace.
    • Nuclear disarmament of the European Union. A mere tradeout of officials cannot guarantee the safety of anyone who might smart off to you in the future from full-scale nuclear retaliation. Eliminate your WMD programs and submit to UN probation, immediately. And none of that MAD defense crap. Invest the recovered infrastructure in ABM defenses. We certainly will.
    • We will continue to push for the EU's removal from the Security Council in the United Nations. However, we are willing to accept that this is outside the realms of this peace treaty.
    • Finally, we find that your apologies for the assault on our nation ring hollow when you go on to falsely characterize Ukraine as an aggressor, and claim that foreign troops have been allowed into Ukraine to protect you from us rather than the opposite. We would appreciate it if you ceased this flagrant perjury and admit to your guilt in this attack in diplomatic practice, rather than simple lip service.

Although this didn't make it into the official diplomatic envoy, PM Vasyl Dzubenko was quoted by an anonymous source as saying that, if the Chairman ever referred to Ukraine as a "rebellious territory" again, "I will personally go to Strasbourg and beat seven kinds of [expletive deleted] out of him."

The Swiss UN representative quietly requests a meeting with your representative; (no real efforts to hide it, just a low key meeting)
    Spoiler
    Show

In the ensuing discussion (assuming the invitation for discussion is accepted), our representative requests an amendment to your proposed sanctions against the European Union, specifically asking for an exemption for Switzerland. While we feel that the proposed action may be warranted, some consideration for our specific situation must be considered. If Switzerland were to declare an economic embargo against the European Union, they would be very justified in declaring an embargo on us in return, including the prohibition of all transport across thier sovereign territory, effectively isolating us. It is in this light that we would be forced to vote against economic sanctions without a specific Swiss exemption.
Though we feel the recent disastrous actions taken by the EU are unquestionably reprehensible, even if the Swiss exemption is in place, the best we can offer is an abstention on the matter; we feel it is not moral to tell others to undertake actions that we are not ourselves prepared to take.
If you feel it necessary, I can repeat Switzerland's concerns to the General Assembly, though the reasons behind any exemption should be self explanatory.

Air Defence : 1 (army AA guns tertiary effect*)
    Naval Strength: 10 (navy)
    naval Defence: 4 (navy)

*note these I have added solely because there is no ground complement (they are secondary and tertiary effects only; only air is good at attacking the other two branches)

    Newsflash

International conspiracy to bring EU and Russia to war!
~combat data distributed worldwide clearly represents the full ten airfleet wings of the EU air force over Ukraine in the 'accidental war'... thus the eleventh air fleet can not possibly be from the EU~

Irbis, I believe someone is trying to make us fight. I don't HAVE 11 air fleets, only ten, and they accidentally fought Ukraine. Probably your rebellious province or one of the many factions condemning me or perhaps one of the silent ones, waiting to pounce on me from the west or south, hoping my forces will be engaged against you. Rest assured I continue to support Russian peacekeeping and unity over the Eastern bloc, as you are a sane and appreciable nation.
We also invite you to send peace keepers to the orthodox Balkan nations along with Turkey. All we want is Greece back and your welfare.
Remember that the Ukrainian junta leader promised revenge, though I do not think he has the resources to pull off such a heist I advise you to put Ukraine under control immediately. Something is up with their airforce, I believe two extra air wings might have appeared (they suddenly had 7 again). If our agencies find out that they did indeed have air wings then it means they assembled aircraft from some rabid, interventionist nation, painted them European and launched them at you. Its just a theory, but Ukraine might have covertly gone to an air war with you, trying to frame me with his Covert Operations, possibly with the help of someone else, and if it indeed was 7 air wings, then definitely the military aid of someone else.
My gut instinct is to advise you to put Ukraine under immediate Russian martial law and send in more troops. Who knows, maybe he'll convince someone to nuke us both next. I can lend you some defense weaponry if you want it.

I'm glad to report he is practically defenseless! ^^ He only has 3+ points of effective naval power left and 2+ points of airpower left after the accidental war. Please take him out and absorb him. He is Russian after all. And please support the Christians nations in Africa. :)

Wizcoat: Were those even my fighters? I look over my aircraft once they come back. From the calculations it looks like MY ENTIRE air force was in Ukraine, thus the eleventh point must have been someone else's...
How many months has it been by the way? We had time for fleets all the way from the middle Atlantic and Norwegian sea clashing iron in the Black Sea.
And why did Ukraine have 7 air fleets (2 of them were taken out by nukes) and possibly 3 armies (might just be my misunderstanding the way AA works)? Btw., did I get a combat bonus for the high tech. I had?
Did my pilots notice anything weird about the pilots they fought?
OOC: If it was a clerical error I'd like it corrected in combat. If not, we'll try to identify what kind of models they were.

You said it wasn't secret so I overlooked your meeting Switzerland. The EU would really appreciate it if you tried not to drag your own fat out of the fire without considering us. You know it was a mistake. Besides, aren't you ignoring the more important matter at hand? Damage containment against the radiation. And trade... are you going to work with us on it?
We love Switzerland, but we hope you will show us some love back. :) Or at least attention to cooperate with the issues at hand. I expect some legitimate help from Switzerland, I'm offering you free radiation clean-up tech after all. :)

    UN
France vetoes the motion, and all the other EU nations vote against it. The EU asks its friend and allies to follow suit. Armenia and the Christians nations of Africa might support us as well as our North American and Euro-Asian friends.

I owe it to my country, my people, and my forefathers to try and remain as neutral as possible in this situation. We know you understand.

You're wrong... we had the strength of ten fleets in the air over Ukraine. Their fuel would be depleted from intense operations over Ukraine.
I resent your accusations. You're completely off base, I have never claimed the nuclear attack to be accidental. The follow-up was. And it wasn't an invasion, the accidental attack was merely an air war and naval engagement that were thought to have been canceled.

The nuclear attack was not accidental and it was provoked, but the naval and aircraft war was accidental. As for the incident in Russia... that is further foreign intervention by some nation that probably espouses their hate of the use of nuclear weapons but secretly wants to start a world war.
    You hypocrites!
I'm sure the Russian President will be much more understanding.

Who doesn't the world understand I was defending myself from Ukrainian aggression? My only goal in nuking Ukraine with tactical warheads was to cripple his army so he couldn't support Greece's independence. (OOC: Actually, I described tactical attacks in detail to Wizco, but the way the game mechanics work it didn't take that into account.)

Perhaps it is Indonesia who sent extra aircraft to Ukraine. Why did they have seven fleets when two had already been destroyed by nuclear fire?
Whomever supplied them with extra air forces probably sent the 11'th air fleet or must have used some sort of DISTORTION as was clearly described in the international report to break off a section of the air fleet.

At any rate the EU intends to join with the United States as the United States of the Atlantic. USA :) We might alternatively join with Russia to create the Eurasia Incorporated
The part of the EU government uninvolved with warfare will stay on in an advisory capacity to either President who accepts the offer. This will ensure continued stability under the US government, so all you evildoers can just back off. We nuked Ukraine and we take responsibility for it and will pay amends to Russia.
Whomever is trying to frame us is doing a very poor job of it.
Is it you Indonesia? With your talk of accidental nuclear wars of which there have been none, you sound like you might be the one trying to frame me.
Do you have any idea whom it might be? Someone is trying to make Russia take over all of Europe by making us enemies of each other. For the sake of avoiding WW3 we need to use espionage points to find out who.

1 division of Eu asircraft bombed Russia (1 russia, 9 ukrain). They did not bomb the Ukraine. From the wrekkage the Russians find it is evident that these were EU planes in every way.

Also 7 air comes from their action rolls. 5 action dice, giving rise to 7 points of primary effects (that being the air attack for aircraft in a default combat).

    @ ALL:
NOTE: This combat happened only several hours after the nuclear strike, before anyone could react to the crisis. I did not stae it immediately as I thought that turkey or Russia might have wanted to send in air support for either side (they ahd time to react).

((Also...the thisn isn't fair angle isn't really the case, I remember you stating this was going to happen as you could hardly pull back. Remember far from everyone has responded yet. and my post did state this happened before people could respond.))

((also a few tactical nukes...you emptied the french nuclear arsenal (currently(2008) 3rd biggest in the world). I'm sorry but colateral damage will happen. It was described under secondary effect in the nuclear section.))

    Russian Blitz

Russia tanks stream across the Ukrain, mechanised troops assemble on the border to follow suit. The Russia Forces ignore any Ukranians, but are heading fast towards the EU border.

    East European Unrest

Belarus and Moldova are beginnig to move forces to the EU border. In questions asked by the media at this evident move it is explained that EU operatives and terrorists have been caught by police forces, attempting to steal plans, sabotage soceity and prepare for invasion.

    Turkish War

Turkish forces are assembling over Cyprus. UN peacekeepers present can do little as divisions of turkish tanks roll over the barriers and head into european cyprus. There is a little resistance, but the Island is essentially turkish territory as the cypriot army heads underground.

UN secretary General says he is appauled at turkish lack of respect for the UN peacekeeping force and the right to self determination for the cypriot people.

At those seeking trade with minors

Medium powers can trade up to 2/3 of their trade with minor 1:1.
Great powes can trade up to 1/3 of their trade with minor 1:1.

Minor Nations have 1 or 2 trade to give in return each at best. Be sensible about it, africans or small countries (buthan/nepal) never have more then 1, really.

Minors can trade with up to 3 other countries. First come first serve. Though a more benificial deal will always be accepted over a less benificial one.

    Africans

Those who are trading with rebel groups in africa can supply them with weapons. 1 military point yields 2 wealth from 'semi-legitimate' governments or 3 wealth from evil warlords. You need to get a strength 2 espionage to discover those with similar sympathies, and can smuggle out as much wealth as the strength of your espionage allows (sum of equipment granted + wealth taken should be less then the espionage strength). If you do so please roll the action dice and ADD UP CORRECTLY (also please say if srength is primary and cover up is secondary or vice versa. In essence you should only be able to make a profit if you sell to evil warlords, semi legitimate governments will only make you money if you are willing to reduce your own armies)

Also you CANNOT add primary/secondary and tertiary together.

your actions seem to be succesfull, but what is east? Armenia will likely accept your 2 troops, bt will not give up sovereignty, a trade and defence alliance is the best they will accept (for now).

yes, you fnd the right groups with relative ease...niow what do you do with them. Each says that 2 army and 2 air (possibly in terms of air support) and 2 wealth will go a long way.

    OOC @Moechi

You know, that post should be in the recruiting (ooc) thread . I would like for you to continue however. You are far from screwed. Your have a large population making you hard to conquer and your armies are still formidable. The only battle you lost was the diplomatic one, but even that is still possible to win.

    After the most recent development...

The European Union's intentions are now clear: to divide and conquer the smaller states of Eastern Europe as a prelude to war with Russia. The unprovoked attack on Ukraine was merely the first stage of a plan to conquer everything from the Adriatic to the Urals, or beyond. The Federal Republic of Ukraine will stand by the Federation, Belarus, and Moldova in resisting European aggression, as it is now clear to us that their appearance of acquiescing to our terms was a mere play for time. We encourage our other neighbors who are under similar threat: Bulgaria, Romania, the Eurasian stats, and the Balkan states, to join us in resisting these warmongers. We also appreciate and gratefully accept the support of other nations throughout the world who can help put an end to this madness.

In addition, we are keeping a wary eye on Turkey.

Ukrainian treaty negotiators explain that Ukraine's main grievances remain the same. If you address points such as the reparations payments (the full 26 Wealth amount, specifically) and full nuclear disarmament, we might consider a separate peace. Emphasis on might. Depending on exactly how alliance negotiations with other powers go.

If we are bound for war against the European Union - and most likely his Turkish allies as well - so be it. I doubt our final attempts at peace negotiation will bear any fruit. We are willing to conclude a formal military alliance for self-defense from these two aggressors with all unaffiliated Eastern European nations. Our own military is currently lagging behind thanks to the Union's pre-emptive attacks, but when combined, all of our military strength should be enough to hold off an attack from both powers. We are on the brink of continent-spanning war, and we must be able to protect ourselves. I know I can count on the support of Russia, Belarus, and Moldavia. What say the rest of you?

The United States will accept the EU's offer of merger and will promise to the rest of the world that the U.S. will do a general accounting and investigations of this "incident" which took place.

The EU has "merged" with the USA, Russia and me in several different posts and PMs (some posts are now deleted). I think it is safe to say that any merger will have to be arbitrated by our GM.

    Lies!!
The EU wishes to unite with the USA and noone else.

We have been backstabbed by the Illuminati (whoever organized the air incident over Russia), South Africa in particular, RUSSIA who obviously orchestrated incidents in Eastern Europe (if not even the air incident) Japan also, Indonesia, Mexico, Australia, many others, and now by Britain. The only loyal ones around here are Turkey, the USA and maybe Canada!

My last orders are to shift four points of trade to the USA from Russia, spend all wealth and trade on armies -

5 trade with Turkey, 2 with Switzerland, 7 with Canada, Max with USA (5 or 6), and anything left over with Russia on the off chance they didn't betray me.
Spend all 34 wealth - 22 upkeep plus trade income on armies and MOBILIZE and DRAFT and ARM POPULATION, OPEN THE ARMORIES.
Mobilize all zigs people to the last man, woman and child, give them all rifles and resist the invaders! We will only respond peacefully to the Americans!

Then I DECLARE MARTIAL LAW, transfer authority to the SUPREME COMMANDER OF EU FORCES move out onto the square of our EU administration site and have artillery execute me!!
