Van Veranti

Van looks for a hanging door to take cover behind in the same fashion as the elves and readies an arrow.

"This will hurt me more than it hurts you," he says as he fires.

"...or perhaps not..."

If he can't find cover he'll just attack the closest elf as normal.

Rex, still wide open in the doorway, starts chanting and waving his hands in front of him in intricate patterns. The light in the room goes almost imperceptibly darker and then back to normal. Duglan charges the door bringing his axe around the obstacle, but the nimble elf jumps out of the way. Garret charges from another angle, slamming into the door while slicing into the elf savagely. The door drops a foot from it's hanger and the elf dodges out of the way awkwardly as it slams on the floor.

Van, surveying the battle, notices two things. One, the elf that didn't get attacked looks confused and oddly blank expressioned. He decides that Rex's spell may have something to do with it. He also notices another figure run out from the opposite door and try to hide behind a door. He shoots at the figure and finds his mark, hitting the elf in the shoulder.

Feeling much better, Claire notices Van's shot and charges the third elf, swinging her morningstar viscously. He reacts by drawing an a thin bladed sword and going into a defensive stance, trying desperately to deflect Claire's blows. The confused elf just stands there as if waiting to be told what to do. The last elf, hissing something in elven under his breath, draws a longsword, swinging wildly at Garret.

I wanted to get moving so I am doing people's turn after a reasonable amount of time.

Torrent, seeing Duglan bleeding the arrow wound, runs up to him and lays a hand on shoulder, praying softly. Duglan smells the salty scent of the sea and feels much better. Rex commands in elvish,"Come protect me." The dazed elf finally comes out of his revelry and runs over, standing in front of Rex. Rex then sends another loud sonic bolt at the elf attacking Claire.

Duglan angered that he missed the smaller elf, brings both of his axes to bare hoping that two proves better than one.

While his combatant was busy attacking Garret, Duglan took advantage of the situation, attacking with both axes. An axe hit it's mark, cracking the elves back and sending him to the floor instantly dead.

If there's another elf left Garret attacks it. If not he stands there with a smug smile on his face, as though he seems happy with hurting the elves.

There is one elf left defending Claire's blows. He has only been hit once by Rex's Sonic bolt. You may charge and flank him and that will negate his total defense.

Seeing the last elf fall and how outnumbered he is, the elf drops his rapier and says,"I surrender. You can have the damn case, it won't help you anyway."

You recognize the voice strangely as the impostor gnome from earlier in the evening.

Van straps his bow to his back and moves quickly to pick up the rapier, holding it to the neck of the 'elf'.

"Just who are you?" he asks with a snarl before coming back to a calmer attitude.

"I am Larion Prevarieth. I work for the Shahalesti government. My mission is to find and open the case because we believe it has the key to saving our homeland from the Ragesians. May I ask who you are and why you want the case so bad?"

Duglan

"Our business is none of yours," Duglan snaps at the elf, and looks at the rest of his companions and says, "So what do we do now?"

Garret

Garret turns away from the elf. "You guys talk to him. I don't want to deal with him."

Torrent walks up to the kneeling elf, "Where is the case? There is just one thing I don't understand. You knew that the gnome was with the city resistance. Why didn't you just ask us for the info in the case? We could have been allies instead of enemies."

"Like I can trust non-elves. Just look at that one," pointing at Garret," he would kill me in cold blood right now I believe. Your resistance is pitiful and we can use this info better than you."

Torrent shakes her head, "Fine, just tell us where the case is."

Van furrows his brow and begins to search the elf, with the intent of relieving him of his possessions.

"It's this kind of close-mindedness that drove me away in the first place. If you ever thought to consider that you might be wrong once in awhile, I might be sipping on some of my family's vintage wine right at this very minute..." he trails off his he tries to focus on his task.

"The case is upstairs," the elf spits as he is being searched.

Garret and Van hear a sound like something bumping up against a hanging wood door somewhere in the north side of the room.

Duglan

Still not truly understanding the depth of what is going on, Duglan decides to at least do something himself. "I'll go get the damned case," he says as he heads up the stairs.

Garret

What was that noise? Did the elf make it? Garret turned back to the group. "I heard a noise by the north side of the room. I'm going to check it out." He walks over to the wall and looks about for anything.

Duglan stomps towards the stairs as Garret heads in the direction of the sound. He sees the door that was hit swaying slightly. Then he hears the flap of wings and a creature passing by his head. At the top of the stairs, Duglan finds a small studio apartment with a desk and a bed. A case is sitting on the desk. Duglan grabs the case and goes back downstairs. As soon as Duglan reaches the last step, a bang is heard and then the smelll of sulfur as a small horned creature with bat-like wings flutters to the ground fifteen feet from the dwarf. He hisses a curse and says," That case's rightful owner is the Ragesian empire. This could have been so easy. I don't suppose you will give up the case now." The imp curses again and then slaps his hands together. Another pop and a puff of sulfuric smoke fill the air, and the imp is gone.
