Default Eberron With Giant Robots 00

When the first Invaders appeared, all we knew was that they came from beyond the sea...

"...a year later, we don't know much more," explained the redheaded woman, dressed severely in the uniform of Breland's Royal Navy. "But thanks to the cooperation of our fellow nations and the arcanotechnology provided to us by the Dragonmarked Houses, we have at last begun to keep the creatures at bay."

The Countess ir'Frey (Captain, Royal Navy) stood before a darkened room, herself and the strategic map of Khorvaire on the wall behind her spotlit, as if she were on stage. Within the surrounding darkness, an uneasy, untrusting silence was broken by one of her audience's few members, his illusory form speaking from the shadows.

"I hear a lot of nice talk about fighting back, your Countessness, but who's doing the fighting? I've got these damn bug-thingies tearing up the woods not a hundred miles from my capital."
"What, Boranel, are you worried that they're poaching your royal game? You're the big war hero, why not go out and hunt them down yourself?"
"Hmph. At least he's not holed up in his castle and leaving his countrymen to rot, you monster."
"And just what do you mean by that, Your Highness?"
    "Idiots."

The world is doomed, thought the woman. "Your Majesties and your Holiness," she continued aloud, "If you'll allow me to answer King Boranel's question...in addition to the current forces defending all of our interests, we've commissioned a new Mobile Suit Team in Sharn. They will be assigned to take point on the offensive against the Invaders, and I have it on the highest authority that they're the very best in their respective fields."

"I have it on my authority, Countess, that they're a pack of lunatics and/or flagrant violations of normal intelligence security procedures."

"Well, um, when recruiting the very best in their fields, it's inevitable you're going to come across a few...personality disorders..."

    D-o-o-m-e-d doomed.

Meanwhile, at the Last Tower, a military base on the outskirts of Sharn, said pack of lunatics Mobile Suit Team has assembled. You were all brought into the conflict in one way or another - as members of a royal army, as "contractors" with a Dragonmarked House, as independent mercenaries, or even as a military observer from the Four Nations' distant quasi-ally, the Riedran Empire. Regardless, you and your effects find yourselves in the large waiting area of Last Tower's command HQ, each holding a set of formal orders from one organization or another to report here for participation in the Armored Trooper Coalition, the international organization incident-waiting-to-happen which comprises the front lines against the bizarre menace of the Invaders.

The waiting hall is imposing: large, stone, and walls covered in tapestries depicting various military victories in the history of the Kingdom of Galifar and later Breland. What the waiting hall does not have is anyone else besides the reporting soldiers. The small alcove with a plaque marked "Reception and Processing" is completely empty save for a small, unoccupied, gnome-sized desk.

Nozomi looks at the tapestries, smiling when she sees the one with the first mobile suits. I did that...we made a bundle, too. "Hello." She says to the assembled lunatics team members. "I'm Nozomi d'Cannith. Are you all here as part of the new Mobile Suit Team?"

A willowy woman stands in the room with a small smile fixed on her face, looking about at the frescoes on the wall and the other people in the room by turns. Tall and slender, with black hair falling well below her shoulder and green eyes, she's wearing a well-tailored dress that does not look terribly practical for a soldier.

She nods at Nozomi's question. "Oh yes," she says, some enthusiasm creeping into her voice. "Not my usual line of work, but I am looking forward to it. You're with the team too, then, Miss d'Cannith?" she finishes politely, eyes flicking around to the others as if inviting them to join in as well.

A young, well-dressed man with neatly-kept kit rests sitting against the wall. His dark hair is short and evenly cut all around, and he has soft, smooth features. He'd been resting with his eyes shut, but now that the rest of his team is introducing themselves, the man kips up and approaches them with a gentle smile.

"Yes, lady D'Cannith. My name is Dencamp--Dencamp Bertrande, of Breland. It's a pleasure to meet you all. I look forward to working with you."

Soft features and a sunny disposition. About the only thing about this Dencamp that looks remotely threatening is his gear.

What appeared to be a metal statue decorating the large hall lights up and comes to life as it recognizes Lady Nozomi. The statue approaches the group.

Standing before you is a tall iron man with glowing blue-white eyes, steel gray armored skin, a chest-mounted amulet glowing with white light, and flush-mounted screws on various parts of his body. He resembles an immaculate suit of full plate armor, but one with nobody inside. He’s a warforged, one whose construction appears to be an improvement upon existing warforged technology. While his armored skin covers up nearly all of his blackwood plant fiber musculature like all heavily armored warforged, his skin seems to be built to tighter tolerances which results in a finer quality finish. And while other warforged have hands with only three fingers, his hands have four fingers and an opposable thumb, a mechanical analogue of a human hand.

Attached to the top of his left forearm is a boxy object about the size and shape of a buckler shield. A small barrel protrudes just above the wrist.

His right hand and forearm is currently covered by an armblade that looks like it's been through a war. Unlike its wielder, the armblade has numerous scrapes and dents that show obvious signs of use.

And strapped to his right thigh appears to be a simple, ordinary crowbar.

"Warforged Tactical Melee Unit Alpha Promethium Zero Zero One, designated Crowbar, reporting for duty. The only problem is, there doesn't appear to be anybody to report to. Do any of you know where the-" He takes a moment searching for the words, " 'pencil pushing geek' is? I've been standing here for two days."

Nozomi herself is a woman of average height in her early 20's. Her eyes and hair are a uniform shade of jet black, and the latter is in a short, severe style. The most prominent feature on her somewhat pale face is the dragonmark on the center of her left cheek(if you look closely, you can see that she's made up the surrounding skin just a shade lighter than the rest of her to make is stand out even more), but her other features are the sort that can go from soft to harsh in a heartbeat. She's wearing a House Cannith work uniform with a number of tools hanging from a broad leather belt studded with three rhinestones, a backpack, and a cane with a dragon-head handle. "Thank you. It's good to meet you all too. Say hi to everyone, Crowbar." If the warforged who just stopped pretending to be a statue says like "Hi to everyone, Crowbar," she rubs her temple and mutters "I swear you people do that on purpose."

From a door deeper inside the building, a half-elf in a Brelish army uniform walks out into the hall and quickly stops and does a double-take at the group of armed people standing around. "Hm? ...Oh! You must be the new team. Why are you just standing around? You need..." after a quick glance at the reception desk "Damn. Where's that bloody clerk? Oh, never mind him. I'm Lieutenant Vedner. I'm the XO of your little team here."

Drawing out a clipboard covered in a thick stack of papers, he coninues. "Now...you'd be...ranged specialist, melee specialist, reconnaisance, Cannith liaison, and...Empire of Riedra liaison, right? Am I missing anyone? Of course not. This way." And with that, he promptly turns on his heel and goes back the way he came, motioning at the group to follow him.

"I am Iron Man! Hi to everyone, Crowbar." He says in a metallic voice that sounds like he's talking through a fan. Then he chuckles and says quietly, "Actually, we do." For walking, talking, heavy artillery, the warforge appears quite personable, which can be a bit unnerving for those used to stoic members of his kind unaccustomed to cultural norms. He disengages his worn armblade, slips it into a pair of brackets mounted on his back, and shakes hands with members of the group. He has a firm and strong grip.

"Well, obviously I'm the Cannith liason, Mr. Bertrande is from Breland, so that leaves...I'm afraid you never introduced yourself, ma'am." Where the khyber did those stupid rumors start, anyway? Father made me the same way every other human makes their children!" Nozomi yells. Seems like a bit of a sore spot with her.

[ooc]...I just realized that due to certain things I discussed with the DM in spoilers, it's possible that Nozomi is wrong about this. But seriously, how would the daughter of Merrix d'Cannith not run into rumors like that growing up? [/ooc]

"So your knowledge database is very limited when you come online for the first time. You wouldn't know... well I guess that would include how to talk, why you need to eat and sleep, where to eat and sleep..." Then it hits him. "If your knowledge database is so limited, and the only way to gain life experience afterwards is to live... why, it would take years to accumulate an equivalent knowledge database! We know quite a bit when we're first activated. I was told my baseline knowledge database is rather more extensive than normal, but clearly there are gaps. I'm amazed you're able to survive long enough to acquire one." Crowbar looks around at the others in the group with awe.

Lieutenant Vedner ignores the group's chatter and leads them quite a ways, down winding hallways and windinger staircases, until you're probably a couple of stories underground. The rather dank corridors eventually open up into an enormous cavern, partly natural and partly carved, that itself opens up to the fresh air, apparently being set into a hillside away from the main enterance. Within the cavern, you see a multitude of scrap metal parts and random bits of simple machinery, as well as half a dozen Huge (the technical term) navy-blue suits of armor, which most of you should recognize as Mobile Suits.

"This is our main hangar," explains the lieutenant, waving his arm abruptly to indicate the room. "What we've got here are six mass-produced BRE-S002 Spirit II's. The command staff has put in a requisition for some more specialized units, but we have to bring those in from all over and they haven't arrived yet, so for the purposes of training and acclimation, you all get to use these for now."

"You over there!" he shouts to a tall man busy doing something artificery in the corner by one of the suits. "Where in Khyber is everyone today? Especially Commander Deneith?"
