    Default A Role Reversed?

    This is the thread that will be used for the Level 20 attempt by 2-3 Mage Slayers to try to kill a single Mage.

    Mage-slayers, please post characters.


    Rules:
    During this competition, I will attempt to incapacitate all mage-slayers, without succumbing myself, or being hit.

    If I accomplish this without injury to myself, Mage wins.
    If I accomplish this, but am hit, partial victory.
    If I fail to accomplish this by the time I run out of spells, or I am slain, Mage-slayers win.
    Any legal WotC Published 3.5 source is allowed, though, for fairness's sake, I am not using any spell with the words "Celerity" or "Shivering Touch" in their title.
    All players may begin with any two spells cast (with a casting time no greater than 1 round), provided these two spells do not affect an opponent or target. These are the 2 round grace period "buff" spells, though they may be used for other non-offensive things as well, for example, summoning monsters and the like. The Mage slayers get these 2 spells free of charge, and are assumed to be cast with 1 and 2 rounds of the duration expended, respectively. They may be chosen from any core base class's spell list, including non-core sources. The mage is limited to spells he knows or has on scrolls. These are assumed to be cast by the mage, and will be deducted from his available spells. These spells will be spoilered, and not immediately viewable to opponents, though interaction may later reveal what they are.


    Arena will be a 100x100x100 featureless room. It is assumed to be impenetrable and impassible from all sides, for as long as any creatures in opposition to one another are alive within it. Assume some sort of Dead magic/antimagic/dimension lock/wall of force/Sphere of annihilation of doom (on steroids), 10 feet past the stone walls on all sides. This is a harmless effect, unless one willingly attempts to transport out of it, in which case, the transporter is automatically slain.

    I shall post mage build as soon as I fill in a few details... Namely, saving throws, skills, initiative mods, and attack bonuses. Spells, Items, stats, classes, and the like are already done.


    EDIT: This is being edited in so that you can see the mechanics. If you type this in an original message, it will generate a roll.

    That will roll 1d20 and add 8.

    [roll]3d6+22[/roll]

    While I hope such a damage roll isn't needed, this would be 3d6 and add 22 (Say, a large Greataxe +3, +10 strength modifier, and 2 points of power attack)

    What kinds of Mage Slayers are actually allowed? Not another full caster, I understand, but what kinds of limitations are there for the martial character? Does it specifically need to use crappy classes like Occult Slayer or is any martial character good to go?

    Turcano stated in the inspiration thread that his build assumed that he was in a party, and would thus have access to some moderate buffs. The 2 buff is there to represent the max amount of time that a party caster would be able to reliably devote to buffing an ally.

    Though they're welcome to choose divine spells.

    Further, "Mage slayer" doesn't necessarily mean you slay all mages. You could just kill the bad demon-summony type, or the good, if-it-wasn't-for-those-meddling-kids-and-their-stupid-dog types. There's a bit of latitude.

    Tell me, apprentice slayers, do you have any idea how hard it is to challenge an experienced mage? All of my mage friends are casting their epic magic, and I can't find anything challenging enough to actually hurt me... Quite Frankly, it's embarassing being the only guy in the clubhouse that hasn't dropped a Hellball on an unsuspecting village. These fights aren't TEACHING me anything. As you are the only group that's assaulted my fortress who aren't total buffoons, I've let you in, as a test of my abilities. This room, specially designed to be unescapable and impervious to magicks designed to penetrate it, was placed to give you the confidence you need to face one of my caliber.

    Young mage slayers, I've nowhere to run. Nowhere to hide. And, to answer your questions, yes, I really did do everything that you've been sent to kill me for. Probably a few things that they haven't found out yet. Disintigrate does leave so few remains.


    With that, a sphere of solid rock winks into existence in the squares surrounding the mage.

    OOC: Not all abilities are listed currently on my sheet. As of the morning, when I get off work and add in the classial abilites for my only undefined PRC (Frost Mage), I'll be good to go. Darn not having access to frostburn at work.

    For the 3rd slayer, don't look in my character spoiler until after your character is designed. Afterwards, my character spoiler is fair game, though my buff spoiler is not.

    I'll see if I can pull in a guest ref. Any volunteers?

    What about warlocks? E.g. you count an invocation as its equivalent spell level?

    Based on what I can see of starting location thus far:

    Stone sphere is visible in I1, I2, I3, J3, K3, K2, and K1. It extends upwards 10 feet, and appears to be domed at the top, covering J2 from above.

    EDIT: Wow. This is why every wizard in existence uses Foresight + Celerity, kids.

    I think what this contest needs is a good Tome of Battle build, but I lack the experience with that particular sourcebook to make one. So I'll just sit outside the sidelines, somehow immune to the sphere of annihilative doom, and start weaving a basket that reads "Go Mage!".
