The sands shift and the amulets fall. You get the feeling that continuing in that direction would be fruitless.

The sands have spoken he says solemnly. Following the scorpion's trail would not lead us to the wizard, so let's follow our initial plan. Memnoth picks up his amulets, and continues with the circling path. I hope he does survive till we find him he says, troubled that he would be killed by an enemy as tough as the scorpions before they arrive.

You all continue to treck through the desert, turning east and south to begin the arc. The ground is hot, dry, cracked, and all around unpleasant for those of you among the living.

After almost two hours of searching while moving, not even Allison has found a trace of the mage yet, and you've already gone far enough south to get beyond the southern most portion of Mala Myrr. You've turned westward in your southern movement, almost completing the half spiral.

Memnoth and Tynze are the first to spot something, with Mottle noticing soon afterwards.

A veritable cloud of some things is flying around near ground level, headed quickly in the direction of Mala Myrr. The cloud is probably fifteen to twenty feet on each side. Every so often, part of the cloud will disappear and new parts will appear. The cloud is probably 140 or 150 feet away, heading in a northernly direction.

There is a bit of broken up ground here that cover could be taken in, and they would not see you and they could just pass by.

The big man turns to his companions. "I don't know what they are right now, so I'm going to find out." With that Tynze's appearance seems to melt and his features and proportions extend, giving him a canine look but one with decidedly fiendish features. Small horns protrude from atop his head, his hands extend to full claws and he hunches forward a bit. Blood-red tinged fur covers his skin. "Let's go see with what we're dealing?" he says as he turns towards the cloud. "You can hide or not, whatever you choose."

Heh, that's a good question. It's 30 as my land speed.
Someone on foot can run, going x4 times his land speed. But I guess other modes of movement (burrow, fly, swim) don't allow for similar speed increases (the fly spell specifies that you can't run).

If the swarm is moving faster than that and it could be seen before going after them, Memnoth would sandswim a short distance in a direction more or less parallel to the swarm, then chase after running (so that his footsteps don't guide the swarm directly towards the group).
