Born into a family with a long history of service to Aundair, Tanith’s father died in battle when he was an infant, and his mother died in childbirth. He was raised by his grandfather, Gerard, an adventurer and veteran himself, and grandmother, Elayne, in a small cabin in the wilderness. Gerard was a strict, but kind man, and from an early age took Tanith hunting with him, teaching him the ways of the forest, how to use a bow and myriad of other weapons, and above all, military discipline and loyalty. His favorite pastime, however, was exploring caverns and areas of the forest he had never been, scoping out new terrain and discovering the unknown.
As Tanith grew into maturity during the height of the Last War, it was expected that he would join the army on the side of Aundair. Instead, he saw no point in risking his life solely for Aundair, when he could make a better living as an independent contractor. Serving all sides as a scout, spy, and skirmisher, Tanith gained a taste for danger and the thrill of the hunt. With the completion of the war, he continued to take on jobs—but now returning to his first love, exploration. Recovering lost artifacts and exploring old ruins, Tanith has spent the last few years in the wilds of Khorvaire.
Appearance and Personality: Tanith is of average height and build for an elf, with blue eyes and black hair trimmed short. He wears his tight dark clothes and a heavy cloak, and carries a bow slung across his back, and a sword at his waist.
Tanith, although disciplined and loyal to those who hire him, has no lasting loyalties. He works for whoever hires him, carries out a task, and is done. However, he isn’t an entirely bad sort—he won’t kill good people for money, and will help someone if it doesn’t inconvenience him terribly.
Edit: Recruitment thread, for your convenience.Last edited by Chronicled; 2008-06-29 at 11:28 PM.

Why thank ya'. I've been keeping track of my items as we went, so I'll re-post I guess. :)
Phantom, do you want to perhaps post the loot from the gnomes, so that we can split it up?

Re: Things That Go Squish in the Night (3.5 Heroes of Horror live)
How would we go about selling our new loot?
I don't suppose our new airship captain would have much use for a bunch of child-sized armor and weapons? Maybe we'll get lucky and he'll need to outfit, supply and prepare a preschool for war.People seemed to like this better, but only marginally so - the way one might prefer to be stabbed than shot. Optimally, one isn't stabbed or shot. Optimally, one eats some cake! But there are times when cake is not available, and instead we are destroyed. true, and on a different note, i find it funny that their stuff could techniquely fit shilly-shae, yet she is 2/3 their size (2 feet vs 3 feet tall)

Re: Things That Go Squish in the Night (3.5 Heroes of Horror live)
I think that Zad could make great use of the Efficient Quiver (unless our archer has great need for extra arrow space). He could carry spears and shortspears in it, for some small semblance of ranged capability.
As for selling our stuff, if they have no use for it in the fort, then maybe we should keep it until we get to a population center, like Sharn. It's not as though we have a whole lot of time for shopping, anyway, right?Last edited by Sucrose; 2008-06-29 at 10:51 PM.

Re: Things That Go Squish in the Night (3.5 Heroes of Horror live)
I have no spells that can be Maximized (well, other than the Whelm line, but there's something very odd going on if I'm using those). We should ID the wand, although I highly doubt I'll be using it either (no UMD and limited spell list)... we can probably just ask the captured mage about it.
Tanith has a +1 Mithril Chain Shirt (like me), so neither of us need the leather armor. I wonder if it could resize to fit Marshmellow ?
I want the travelling papers. Authentic ones (I hope) like those described will be of great interest to Quigley.
@ jlousivy: I realized that Shilly doesn't need to take Mage Armor in the future after all if she doesn't mind group reliance. Quigley has more than enough spell slots to spare a Mage Armor for her.

Re: Things That Go Squish in the Night (3.5 Heroes of Horror live)
Captain Morris Blacksilver is a surly man, and his crew are no different. Save the woman at the helm, which Blacksilver has since referred to as a half-elf named "Cyria," Morris has been very quiet about the crew.
Dinner is served quickly, and the food is only of moderate quality. It's nothing to get especially excited about - in fact, it would seem that a good portion of it is actually just remade and repolished versions of the cardboard-like nutrient paste created from Evard's Everfilling Spork.
The table is about 10 feet long, with chairs squished together tightly, making for a somewhat uncomfortable experience with the 5 passengers and 8 crew.
Most of the crew eats in silence.
"Normally, it's really not this awkward, eh? Jus' - the crew's jus' more used to ferrying... human patrons, you know?"
The captain remains noticeably unnerved. He seems to smile as he watches Shilly-Shae, but frowns noticeably while looking at Zadornine.
"An', eh... th' Valenar Elves. How... how're they doin', this time of year? Brutal?"
The captain wipes his chin. "They almost took me leg; jus' barely got away when they came. Out on patrol - I'm a man from Cyre, right - an' they jus' jumped us."
He again seems noticeably awkward and quiet.
"Erhm. Well..."
"Where, exactly, are we goin', now? Y'gave me... distances. 600-somethin' miles from Orcbone Keep? An' where, 'sactly, are we goin' from there?"

Zadornine Gaspar
Zad looks up from his meal at the captain's question.
"Za? Well, I imagine that they're doing the same as ever. My town's remote, so they don't generally get around to us too much. Sorry to hear about your leg."
He turns back to his food, seemingly to leave the other question to any of the other questers.

Re: Things That Go Squish in the Night (3.5 Heroes of Horror live)
Quigley
Quigley wishes with each bite that he'd learned some magic that could reflavor his food, but manages to eat with a straight face.
"They've been pretty agitated lately, I'm not certain why. Shilly and I ran into some unpleasant Valenar ourselves not too long ago... but we're both still here."
He pauses. "Captain Blacksilver, I was hoping you share some of your tales about the Beginner's Luck with us. If you'll pardon my frankness, it seems to me as if you are one of the Five Kingdom's either luckiest or most blessed of men, with such a competent-looking ship and crew at your command. To captain an airship is a dream I've held for the longest time. How did you begin?"

Re: Things That Go Squish in the Night (3.5 Heroes of Horror live)
Blacksilver chuckles as he reaches for what seems to be a decanter of "somewhat endless" water.
"Ah, well. Flattery'll gitcha nowhere," he says, practically hilighting his urban Cyran (read: cockney) accent. "Blessed - never, but lucky - oh, you betcha."
"This crew? We got 'em down in Sharn. They're a great bunch, no doubt, an' they'll git ya where you wanna go. But I don' count on them to know to fasten a lifeline when we start doin' barrel rolls, an' I don' expect them to do more than they're paid."
The captain seems very candid when speaking about his crew - especially when they're in the same room.
"Ah, don' worry. They're a good bunch, right?"
One or two muffles grunts of approval punctures the silence and sounds of forks scraping plates.
"Well, stories, eh... well, I don' got a lot, but I 'ave a few. One time - back after the war, right - I'm sittin' in a bar in Sharn - crazy stuff, livin' in me enemies' greatest city - an' I'm thinkin' to myself, "I could go for a game o' Three Dragon Ante." And lo an' behold - who should walk in but a local gamesmith, or whatever y'call 'em!"
"Well, I says to him, 'gamesmaster, you an' I are men of my own world....'"
Blacksilver seems to gibber for approximately thirty seconds. It's very difficult to understand him, and whether he's speaking common or gibberish is up to debate. Towards the end, he becomes more eloquated.
"An', finally, BAM! I play the Dracolich card. Got 'im right where I want 'im. Guess what? We reveal the collateral. Keeper comes over, says to him, 'sir, he put up a very large set of vintage equipment from the Last War as well as a small stockpile of military goods and equipment', an' he says it all gentlemanly, not worrying why I 'ave all th' goods. Truth be told - I 'ad maybe half of what I put up as collateral."
"An' then, 'e comes over to me, an' says, 'sir, he put up a small airship as collateral.'. An' th' whole club goes nuts!"
After a few more awkward sentces, he concludes with, "An' that's why it's called The Beginner's Luck. Good name, appropriate, eh?"
"Cyria's busy at the helm. She don' like bein' disturbed. Worked with me since th' beginnin' of my career as an air captain, yeah? 'sides, she dog esn't eat much anyway."
\\\goin' to bed. Tell me when you're next good to play.Last edited by Phantom.exe; 2008-07-03 at 01:45 AM.

The captain raises an eyebrow.
"Right, right, right, yer extra passengers. Well, then, I'm afraid I was paid by a flat rate, eh - so I ain't gonna be chargin' ye by the head. I respect a man who brings his pris'nors aboard when it'd be jus' as easy t'leave 'em for th' crows."
"Whaddya mean by 'murky'"? He seems extraordinarily curious.
"Like.... hm."

"It's a bit too much for coincidence, methinks. Both some... bizarre creature sending gnomish mindslaves to hinder anyone getting aboard, and some strange crows eating anything still there after the airship leaves? It's almost like... a shot at a perfect crime. There's almost no doubt in my mind. This "murky" thing wanted us dead, the gnomes dead, and the crows to clean up the mess.
After all, you weren't planning on having any other passengers here were you, Captain? The gnomes were put there specifically for us. And the crows being sent by a bored druid specifically on this day would be a little too coincidental."

Re: Things That Go Squish in the Night (3.5 Heroes of Horror live)
\\\\\\Okay, well, due to server bugginess, I lost that huge, eloquent post I had by a grizzled sea captain. I'll get to it later.
long story short, I'm still in Chicago, and it's late - I'll set out as soon as I can, but I'll probably be back by what - 3, 4. I'll send people PMs and E-mails the first thing I do as I get back.
If by 4:30 no luck, we'll try for Monday, preferably earlier during the day. 'kay?
Anyway, sorry. Yeah, traffic, plus long driving time, and I'm still in Chicago. As I said - I'll give it my best.
And louis, yes, you hosting would work great.
