Re: [4E] Keep on the Shadowfell, party of six [IC]
Tarin steps to the edge of the bushes. His face goes hard and determined as he draws a pair of arrows to looses them at the slinger, then readies two more for the beast.
Spoiler
Man, i wish i had a map
Okay, I'm going to have to make a couple of assumptions here:
1- The slinger is my closest target (both of us are north of the rest of the party, the rest of the kobolds are further down the road or south of us).
2- I am closer to the slinger than the rest of the party is to it.
3- I can get to the edge of the grove in one move action (so that I am not firing through cover)
4- After my move action, the kobolds are not under cover
Move Action Move to the edge of the foliage
Minor Action Designate the kobold slinger as my quarry
Standard action Two-Fanged Strike at the Kobold Slinger, apply quarry damage if one hits.
To Hit:(15)(13)
Damage:(14)(14)
Wis Modifier Bonus Damage (if both attacks hit) (3)
Hunter's Quarry Damage (if one attack hits) (5)
Possible Free Action If only one attack from Two-Fanged Strike hits, reroll the missed dice
To Hit(9)
Possible Action Points If both attacks from Two-Fanged Strike hit, and the kobold slinger is not yet dead, spend an action point to use twin strike
to Hit(11)(23)
Damage(7)(11)
Ouch, those are some terrible to hit rolls.
I'll guess that either neither, or only one of the intial attacks hits, so I probably dont' end up spending the action point, though I may end up spending elven accuracy

Re: [4E] Keep on the Shadowfell, party of six [IC]
Emra draws her bastard sword and follows Rexacor into the fray, swinging her weapon mightily.
SpoilerMinor Action: Draw sword
Move Action: Get to a spot where she can charge at a group of at least 2 kobolds (speed 5)
Standard Action: Charge, attack with Cleave (I can do an at-will off a charge, correct? If not, and it's just a basic attack, it's the same except no +3 damage to adjacent kobold.)
Attack roll: 24
Damage: 13
(on dice thread)
If there are any problems with these actions Karas, please tell me. It is difficult playing without a grid after all.

Re: [4E] Keep on the Shadowfell, party of six [IC]
Initative Order:
Spoiler
27 Alejandro
26 Tarin
24 Rexacor
17 1 Kobold Slinger
175 Minions1 Minion
12 Emra
9 Resh
7 Aelyn
7 2 Dragonshields
Alejandro moves forward and blasts the three kobold minions into non-existence. Their electrifried corpses are pushed back three squares, landing on the grass with a dull thud.
Tarin makes an attack on the slinger. The first hits, the second misses.
The slinger is bloodied, and if not quite at death's door is certainly walking up the stairs leading to the porch.
Rexacor moves towards the dragonshields. He hits one of the dragonshields. It is a near miss, but luck is on his side and the scimitar scrapes along the kobolds armor, and into its soft flesh, dealing a grievious, but not mortal wound. The kobold hisses curses in Draconic at Rexacor, in addition to spurting blood.
The Kobold slinger shakes itself off, moved towards Tarrin and unleashes a Special Shot (Firepot). The shot hits Tarrin, and puts him on fire.
The minions spend their turns sizzling, except for the one kobold minions who survived. He moved towards Alejandro and throws his javelin, striking Alejandro.
EDIT:
Emra strikes at the unwounded kobold dragonshield, who shall henceforth be known as kobold dragonshield #2 because he is no longer unwounded. She cleaves through him into dragonshield #1, dealing him another wound. Both are wounded, but not yet blooded
Spoiler
5 damage to Tarrin, and 2 additional on-going fire damage. (save ends).
Those were terrible attack rolls, but terrific damage rolls.
I assume the possible attack re-roll for the second attack was for elven accuracy?
Alejandro takes 4 damage.
-------------------
I contacted one of the mods to see if scanning the maps is OK. No word yet.
I think we should finish "free-forming" this one, and then I'll work on getting some sort of system up for the later encounters. I might just use Excel as drawingfreak suggested. It seemed to work out OK for my DM in an Eberron game.
So far, I've had some minor miscommunications, but everything is going more or less smoothly. Tarins turn was a little complicated, but again, I think that has as much to do with this being PbP as much as the lack of a map.
And it wasn't all that complicated.

Before his next turn, could you post the distance between Tarin and the kobolds near him. I'd like to keep out of melee, but its hard to tell from the posting how much I need to move to do that

Re: [4E] Keep on the Shadowfell, party of six [IC]
Spoiler
You are thirty feet away from the minion. The dragonshields are twenty feet behind the minion. The slinger is between you and the minion, and probably won't matter very soon anyway.
I think that works with how everyone else is situated.
Besides, I'm the DM, and I say you are far enough away!
Oh, and Alejandro: The minion and the slinger are not close enough for you to thunderwave both of them at once.

Re: [4E] Keep on the Shadowfell, party of six [IC]
Spoiler
ROUND 1 FINISHED:
27 Alejandro
26 Tarin
24 Rexacor
17 1 Minion
12 Emra
9 Resh
7 Aelyn
7 2 Dragonshields
Resh's deadly blow misses kobold dragonshield #1. Alejandro feels a divine shield protecting him.
The half-elf Aelyn moves into the foliage (move action). He curses the Kobold Slinger (minor action), and attempts an Eldritch Blast. His Eldritch Blast misses, but he uses his once daily Action Point for another standard action, and attempts to use his at-will Eldritch Blast again. The second attempt hits the slinger, and knocks it dead.
Dragonshield 1 attacks Resh, but misses. Dragonshield 2 attacks Emra, but his sword harmlessly bounces off her armor.

Re: [4E] Keep on the Shadowfell, party of six [IC]
Spoiler
Um, the slinger was about fifteen feet from the minion. The minion is thirty feet in front of the slinger. I assumed you were about fifteen feet from the minon. You have line of sight to the minion, but not the dragonshields. You can have line of sight to the dragonshields if you move.
But don't forget, you have 2 ongiong fire damage until you do a saving throw, and saving throws take standard actions to attempt now, so you might want to just hang back and try to put out the fire.
Saving throws are attempted automatically at the end of your turn. I thought they took a standard action, but RandomPlayer, and page 279 of the PHB were kind enough to correct me. Carry on.

Let's see.....
Alejandro runs to the kobold who attacked Resh: "I will save you!" and another blast of electricity shoots from his hands.
SpoilerAlright I cast thunderwave, again. I hope I can run to a spot in which I hit the kobold and do not hit any other team members.... Again when I happen to hit, I do damage equal to 1d6+ intelligence thunder damage. Plus I push the subject a number of squares away equal to my wisdom modifier (+3). I will roll now.Characters:

"Emra, watch out!" shouts Rexacor, as one of the dragonshields tries to attack her. He quickly slashes at the kobold's sword arm with his scimitar, trying to disrupt its attack.
SpoilerI use a guarding attack against a dragonshield that can hit Emra, shifting or moving toward it if necessary.
Attack: 22 vs AC
Damage: 12

Re: [4E] Keep on the Shadowfell, party of six [IC]
Alejandro is able to position himself close to the dragonshields to attack them without hitting the party. However, his thunderwave fizzles past the dragonshields harmlessly.
Tarin's arrow strikes true on the minion, slaying it instantly.
The other arrow bounces off the dragonshield's armor.
After shooting off two arrows, Tarin manages to douse the flames.
Rexacor strikes the kobold a mighty blow, leaving it within inches of its life.

Re: [4E] Keep on the Shadowfell, party of six [IC]
Given a resurgence by Rexacor's supporting attack, Emra slashes with her sword at dragonshield #2, and cleaves into the other dragonshield.
SpoilerUse at-will cleave on dragonshield #2 (attack roll 10 and damage 9), 3 damage to dragonshield #1 whether or not it hits.
No minor action or move action.

You find on the kobolds:

DM POST:
Feel free to rp post-combat. I'm posting the description of Winterhaven, as well as some locales you might visit. This will be my only post for today, as today will be very busy for me.
I have received no response from the mod I pmed a few days ago, so I for one, say we go ahead with using scanned maps from the module.
I will have a small in-character reward for whomever helps me with this. I'll wait for the next combat until we have some sort of map system figured out, but that probably won't be for a bit anyway--you guys just got to town after all!
Spoiler
The rutted King's Road leads to the foot of a broad hill that holds the walled village of Winterhaven. The vilage is nestled in the southern foothills of the Cairngorm Peaks. The walls are weathered stone topped by defensive palisades.
Small thatched homes stand around Winterhaven, each fronting a small piece of farmland or pasture. Beyond the farms to the west and south lie dark woods, and to the north, tall mountain peaks.
Locations in Town:
1.) Outer Gate and Walls
2.) Wrafton's Inn
3.) Market Square
4.) Stables
5.) Smithy (dwarven smithy)
6.) Valthrun's Tower
7.) Bairwin's Grand Shoppe
8.) Warrior Guild
9.) Tenements
10.) Temple (many, but Avandra most prominent), has a graveyard
11.) Inner Gate
12.) Winterhaven Siege SUpplies
13.) Barracks
14.) Manor House

Ah, great, we have defeated all those kobolds!
Alejandro laughs and looks concerned to reassure himself that no one got seriously hurt.
I would propose we go to town and go search for an inn to make sure we can sleep in a bed tonight. After we have done so, we can gather information about these kobolds, I do not think they attacked us without a reason. It could be the town has suffered from kobold raids as well.Characters:

Tarin Bijon, Elf Ranger
Tarin walks to the kobold slinger and spits on the corpse. The anger then drains from his face as he turn to Aelyn and bows his head slightly.
Thank you, friend
He then checks his bow and hides to make sure that nothing is still on fire. After patting out a few smoldering patches, he remarks, almost to himself:
I doubt beasts like this need any reason to attack but greed and malice.... Still, there is the matter of your friend. If there is a connection, we should know about it

Somewhat angrily Alejandro turns to Tarin:
Tarin, you are make a mistake. Even though Kobolds have a savage look, they are sentient and intelligent. I doubt they would attack without a good reason. I don't think there is anyone in this party who better experienced savage looks without a savage personality than me... I can't believe they just attacked out of pure rage. I agree we should first look for the friend and try to help him, but I am almost positive these kobolds have something to do with it.

Tarin scowls, Alejandro has stuck a serious nerve.
These things aren't beasts because of their looks. They are beasts because they lay in wait for travelers on the road. If angels of Pelor came down to waylay my friends, kill their families and take their money I would spit on their corpses and call them beasts as well. Re: [4E] Keep on the Shadowfell, party of six [IC]
Emra silently picks up whatever she can carry (she can carry another 57 lbs without penalties, though she will pick up more if the group wishes her to). She sheathes her sword, wipes off her shield and armor, and fixes her wild hair.
Then, oddly, she touches the body of one of the kobolds she struck and then touches her sun symbol on her shield, murmuring a blessing of peace in the name of Pelor.
SpoilerWe've got some good roleplaying going on here, both speech and otherwise. Even in combat. Looks good.
Anyway, I guess we're going to head from Winterhaven and sell loot, and see what happens from there.
Also, 34 sp is split into 5 sp per person, with 4 sp left over (there are 6 of us). If it comes down to it, Emra will volunteer to be one of the two to NOT take an extra silver piece.
AND: This is my last post until Sunday night at least. I would have posted in the OOC thread, but not sure if I have time.
