Default Resh, Dragonborn Paladin of Bahamut

Resh had stepped to the side, letting the others talk amongst themselves about what to do with the bodies. He leaned slightly on a tree, winded. He had not fought in a real battle in so long; obviously why he did not accomplish much in the fight against the reptilian beasts. He looks down the road toward Winterhaven, kneels while leaning on his sword with the point down, and whispers softly.

"Just Bahamut. Look upon me, your humble servant. I ask that you guide me on this quest and to help me protect my companions like I could not pro-"..."-like I could not protect her. Be with dear Douven and keep him safe from harm if he is indeed in danger. Be with us in our battles as we bring justice and peace to this land. In your Just and Holy name..."

With that, Resh rises and sheathes his sword. He turns back toward the group.

"These creatures do not deserve a 'proper' burial for their actions. I suggest we burn them just off the road as a warning for others like them. Be quick, for we have much distance left to travel and little time."

Wow, it's been a while, what with me leaving for a weekend and then the forum downtime. I say we just take a short rest and move on to Winterhaven; are we all here and ready to continue?

By the way, Karaswanton, I've been reading through the Player's Handbook, and I made two mistakes in our combat against the kobolds:

    1. On a charge, you must make a basic attack. I used Cleave instead.
    2. When you cleave, the second creature only takes damage if the primary attack hits. We ruled that the second creature took damage.

Just for future reference. 4e is new for everyone, we all make mistakes.

Emra helps to pile the bodies together.

    Aelyn, Half-elven warlock

Aelyn looks at the dead kobolds and begins to speak, "The people of winterhaven will probably be thankful for this. Those Kobolds could have ambushed somebody less prepared." He helps to move the bodies for burning and smiles slightly. Cearly there were more problems he could help to solve around here than he had first expected.

After laying the last of the kobolds upon the pile, Resh set them ablaze by releasing a stream of flames from his mouth.

"Pray for them if you must." He spits on the bodies, which sizzles into nothingness, and walks away from the pyre.

Emra doesn't pray for the kobolds, though she does nod to the burning pile once before righting her shield on her back once more.

As the fire dies down, Tarin wordlessly starts down the road towards Winterhaven. He tries to soothe his nerves, fiddling with his bow and checking arrows as he walks. Still, any encounter with brigands will not be soon forgotten.

    History Knowledge check...ANSWERED!

Resh eyes Aelyn curiously, then faces the road ahead.

"If you must know, my friend, Douven, was researching the location of a possible dragon tomb in the area. He went missing while looking for it. I owe him much for what he has helped me for in the past. Heh. He introduced me to my wife years ago." Resh fingers the wedding band on his finger...then regains composure.

"As for the rest, there is a bit of a problem with the kobold population, as we have just been introduced to. Chances are we will run into more before we finally locate Douven.

"But there is more. If the stories I hear are true, there is a keep that guards a rift to another world. It was built long ago by a long dead empire. If you ask me, if that rift was still opened, we would know, so I am not really all that worried about it."

    24? Nice!

You know the area has been having trouble with kobolds for awhile.
You also know that near Winterhaven is a sealed rift in an old keep nearby.
The keep was made by the Tiefling Empire of Nerath, long, long ago. It was built over the rift, to guard it. For more information, you will want to speak to Valthrun the Prescient. The people of Winterhaven are afraid of the keep, saying it is cursed and haunted.

Your friend Douven Staul was looking for a dragon tomb in the area when he disappeared.

Basically, you expect to find more problems with kobolds. You also know that many of the townsfolk suspect the kobolds are involved with Douven's disappearance.

Alejandro listens carefully and interested, A long dead empire you say? Sounds interesting. You must tell me more about tell sometimes, when this is all over. So he was searching for a dragon tomb here, that certainly is information that can be helpful.

Tarin flinches at the word 'Tomb'.

"Kobolds wouldn't be so bad, but... you don't think this could be an above ground tomb. Maybe it's been looted and the bandits have fled into a forest."

He is obviously just wishing to himself at this point. The thought of heading underground with angry beasts does not seem particularly promising.

Aelyn shrugs and gives a small smile, "More kobolds can't be too much of a threat. I'm sure we'll have no prooblem finding your friend." he states confidently. After a moment, however, he notes, "Then again, extraordinary things have a tendency to happen in extraordinary places, and you won't just find a dragon's tomb or a dead empire in any random place you may chose to look for them."

The adventurers continue their steady march, the rutted King's Road leads to the foot of a broad hill that holds the walled village of Winterhaven. The vilage is nestled in the southern foothills of the Cairngorm Peaks. The walls are weathered stone topped by defensive palisades.

Small thatched homes stand around Winterhaven, each fronting a small piece of farmland or pasture. Beyond the farms to the west and south lie dark woods, and to the north, tall mountain peaks.

Tarin looks warily at the city. He turns to his friends, hoping for a way out of going inside:

"I would... somewhat like to have another night outdoors if I am able. If we come across any leads before the night approaches, I can look for the trail of our friend. It will be a good excuse to get away from the noise of an inn."
