    Default Into the darkness

    OOC thread: http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showt...55#post4572055

Aaron turned away from the open window to look at his comrad.

"You know, I never did like him." The shadowy man started.
"He was rude and disgusting. Vulgar and improper." He said to himself. He made his way over to the small table that sat in the center of the almost lightless room. The footsteps, although taken with extreme care and quietness, rang out through the still air like a church bell.

He reached down to the table and took the dagger laying there into his hand. Darkness eminated from it, blocking any specific details other than the scarlet liquid that covered it.

With his other hand, he picked up a small paper which had been folded in half. He slipped a few fingers into the middle of the two halves, and opened it. There was no writing on it, no marks whatsoever. He drew the blade across the paper, leaving a long scar of color on the otherwise white paper. He closed it back up again and placed the dagger back on the table.

The paper was no longer there. Aaron smiled. Decades of work had finally payed off. He was so close to his goal.

He made his way over the the window. The moonless night revealed nothing about the ground below, or even if there was ground below. Aaron stepped one foot onto the window sill, and took a breath of the cool night air. It was refreshing and cool, giving him a sense of serenity.

And with that, he launched himself out of the window.

This is the message that's imprinted in your mind suddenly, for no reason.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------
Kharnak slowly woke. The world around him was dark and foreboding. As he gained his senses back, he realised what had happened. His allies lay dead around him. His good were stolen. He reflexively jumped to his feet, but fell back, wracked with excruciating pain. He sat there for a moment before examining himself.

His mind was in shock, numbing the pain in his body. Everything felt surreal. Kharnak felt his head, and found a large, bloody bump. He must have been knocked out. He looked down at his leg. The bone pointed out of his scales. It was obviously broken.

He looked around. It was dark. A half moon showed brightly at the apex of the sky. He could go right down the road, or left. No clues lead to what decision would be best. Suddenly, a scene played out in his mind (see above).

    Possessions:
Your weapon and your armor. Nothing else.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------
Duin stood in the shadows of a rooftop catching his breath for a moment. He panted for a minute or two before climbing down to the window.

He had spent the last hour or so infiltrating the rich part of the city. The roofs were high, and the walls were thick. He had successfully made it up to the roof of his target, a rich man with an extreme prejudice against anything not human, elven, halfling, or dwarven. He had hired countless werewolf killers to hunt Duin down, but now was time for revenge.

He made his way down to the window. As he did, a message materialized in his mind (see above).

Odd... He thought passively as he made his way down to the window.

He gave a quick count under his breath, and ripped open the window and jumped into the house.

The room was medium sized. It was dark, illuminated only by the moonlight pouring in. That was no problem for a werewolf. It was some sort of bedroom, but not in use at the moment.

Duin stood and listened. There was no sound from the rest of the house, so he assumed that he woke noone. There were two doors out of the room, one on the right, and one on the left.

Possessions: Your weapon and armor, along with a few personal possessions and 200gp.

    --------------------------------------------------------------
Hick found himself in the corner of a bar, drinking away. He was barely conscious, and suddenly very aware that he was very drunk. Slowly, the alcohol cleared out his mind as a story was imprinted into it (see above).

Before he could contemplate what this meant, he saw two men making their way towards him. They were large guys, and looked very unfriendly. He had came to Stoneforge for freelance work, and had arrived that day. He had rented out a room in the inn. He didn't remember these guys.

The men made their way up to him. They wore no armor, and carried no obvious weapons, although a blade could easily be concealed.

"Don't try to f-ck with him. Think about it and we'll kill you." One of them said aggressively. You have no idea what he's talking about.

Possessions: Your weapon and armor, along with a few personal possessions and 200gp.

Duin shakes the image off his head, concentrating on the matter at hand. Now's the time for this bastard to pay for his crimes. Duin carefully walks towards the door on the right, staying on all fours. He concentrates his heightened senses, trying to listen or smell something odd. This wasn't his first time invading someone's house, but it always gave him the creeps and made him nervous.

Reaching the door, Duin takes a minute to listen, to see if there is sound on the other side of it. Then he slowly opens the door, trying not to make any noise.

Hick got up off his barstool. His head hit the ceiling of the tavern slightly and a second thud followed as he took up his scythe. He smiled.

"Hello thar, fellows. Is it me you're looking for?"

Hick looked over his shoulder, checking to make sure they weren't talking to someone else.

@Silverkiss: Since you're detached from the rest of the characters, I'll let you go at your own pace, until you guys meet up.

You smell and hear nothing unusual. You pad your way over to the door. It's slightly open, so you use your long nose to push it open. In front of you is a long hallway. It extends off to the right, but stops to a closed door on your left. Down the hallway there are two more door on the left side, and one on the right. The end of the hallway leads to a marble circular staircase.

@MrEdwardNigma: One of the men grins and cracks his knuckles, but the other puts his hand on his chest, his body language saying "Save it. We have better things to do."

"We're not here for a fight. We would prefer you to live for the near future."

He said, cryptically. He turned to the other, gave a short command.

    "Let's go." He said.

As they left, you notice tatoos on the back of their necks. The one who talked had an eagle, and the other had a lion.

Why do rich people have to live on these stupidly big houses ? Dissapointed, Duin walks to the hallway with caution, turning to the door closest to him. Kharnak

Kharnak struggled to his feet - well, foot really - grunting with pain. He strapped his shield to his back but kept his long oddly curved sword, a Khopesh ready. He looked about for some bandages, or something to split his leg with. He fell against the well, using it to keep weight off his wounded leg as he struggled out of the caravan. The Saurians were still alive, which was something at least. He didn't recall who had stolen his goods and killed his fellows, but he knew they would pay dearly.

@Asmodeus Correction: The Sumerians are not alive. You're the only living thing within sight, spare a few birds and such.

You look around, and see some assorted medical supplies laying next to the body of one of your allies. It looks like he had tried to use them, and was killed in the process. You limp your way over and begin trying to stop the blood flow.

    @Silverkiss: It's locked.

@Serkin: You wake in a small room. You're cold, yet covered in sweat. You had just experienced a dream, yet you knew, by some instinctive process built into your mind, that it was true. The dream was of the scene described at the start of this thread.

You were staying with an old friend of yours. He had a small house consisting of a room for him, a room for you, and a general area that served as a living room, dining room, and kitchen.

    Kharnak

Kharnak curses colorfully in draconic, curses which, had the language retained its powerful magics and had he been a mage, might well have reduced the surrounding stone to slag and rubble (OOC: FYI I just mean they're some intense draconic epitaphs) After he had done his best to staunch the bleeding and to splint his leg, he shuffled off toward the home of the cities ruler. When he had arrived and stated his intent a messenger had been sent to alert the rulers of the city that a merchant caravan had arrived, and he himself had sent a messenger to request a meeting with the rulers of Stoneforge. He had not yet returned, something Kharnak had thought odd, the one he sent was very reliable, he thought he might know what had become of him now. In any case his best bet lay in alerting the governing body of the city to his plight. His had been an official merchant caravan laden with goods to trade, even if the cities ruler had no love for lizardmen, this had to be something worthy of looking into.

@Asmodeus: You have no idea where to go. Finding anything is a shot in the dark. Even after you had mostly stopped the bleeding, it's impossible to move at a pace that would allow you to get anywhere. Your leg is almost totally useless. You seem to forget that I control all environments and NPC, just like a DM in actual D&D.

@Silverkiss: You hear nothing from the other side of the door, but while listening, realize that's it's probably a meat cellar, kept cold by magic. You make your way over to the stairs and look down. The stair wind down, blocking your view. There's nothing you can see. As you're looking down, you hear the ever so faint sounds of someone stirring in their sleep, possibly woken up. It came from one of the door opposite to the bedroom which you had entered by.

Serkan sits up in bed, taking several deep breaths and trying to stop himself from shaking.

"It's only a dream..." he told himself, as he wiped the sweat off of his face with the bedsheets. He sat still and reflected for a few seconds. No. Somehow, this was no mere dream. It meant something, it most definitely meant something. He rolled out of bed and began pacing around the room, trying to understand what it could mean. An omen, perhaps? Were the great Ancestors telling him something? He sat back down on the bed, and continued to ponder. Perhaps he should write down this "dream". Fetching some paper and a quill from the dresser, he wrote down what he had seen to make sure he did not forget it.

Anyway, you find a good place to sit and rest. You would be hidden by any passer-bys or attackers.

As you lie down, the exhaustion begins to overcome you, and you start to fall into the soft arms of sleep.

@Falchon: You remember the dream vividly, and are able to record the exact details. You finish writing and put the paper away (wherever you want away to be).

"What the hell are you doing down there? Get up, my friend!" Says a firm and friendly voice. You see a had reach down in the way that someone does when trying to help someone else.

@Silverkiss: You hear a few tossings and turnings from the room, barely audible. You open the door to find a medium sized bedroom. A girl, maybe 14 years old was lying on the bed, facing away from you. As you open the door, she turns over to see you. You assume that she's the daughter of the man you hunt. You know that the nonexistent light gave you an advantage for the moment. She couldn't see you, but she knew that someone was probably there. You could probably leap at her and tear out her throat without making enough sound to wake others. On the other hand, you could easily slip away.

Hick grabbed the hand tightly and pulled himself up. Despite his wiry frame Hick was a heavy man, probably due to his size, and his samaritan would feel this. Hick was surprised though that there were still people in the bar. He'd expected most to have shoved off when the daylight arrived, and the ones who remained were usually not quite capable of moving, let alone ordering another beer.
