Portrait Gallery!
OK, so, I've been hanging out on the BuzzComix message boards and have been encouraged to do some drawing. Mostly because there's a lot of talk about art and my stick figures just kind of feel silly in those discussions. Anyway, I am actually starting TWO new chat campaigns in the next couple of weeks, so here are drawings of my PCs:
First, this as-yet-unnamed air genasi 2nd level rogue/1st level barbarian:
Then, Fifteen--my 19th level transmuter with a knack for making magic items and constructs--puts the finishing touches on Six, his masterpiece runic guardian.
So who else has character portraits to share??Rich Burlew

Re: Portrait Gallery!
Those are awesome! So what race is the transmuter?
I've got some portraits that Ashlock drew for my players and in exchange I painted miniatures for his group. I'll post a few at a time not to dominate this thread.:
This is Eagleton Southpaw. He is a level 8 hobbit fighter who has just about all of the nasty missile related feats. He had a 9 Int until he hit 4th level and he used what little skill points he got on the Craft: Cooking proficiency. So besides putting holes in enemies he also feeds his companions with his mother's special recipes such as Sweet Potato Bisque!
Enjoy:

Re: Portrait Gallery!
The transmuter is a Mechantrix -- a planetouched from the Fiend Folio, kind of what to Inevitables what tieflings are to Demons. He's all about magic items and machines and stuff; that glass platform he's standing on is actually a Flying Carpet, statistically, but I thought since I built it myself I'd make it cooler.

This is the second character in my group. He is a Hill Dwarf Arcane Warrior. The details of this homebrew core class can be found by searching this forum.

Giant- Those are some of the most interesting character drawings I've seen in a while.

Re: Portrait Gallery!
That's a high compliment, thanks. Yeah, I tend to like odd characters with strong visual appearances. I can't really take a PC seriously if I can't picture him exactly, you know?

Re: Portrait Gallery!
Giant, love your drawings. They're very fluid and full of energy. I love that!
I was going to link a site that has my character sketch on it, but I realized I haven't gotten the DM's permission yet. Maybe once I do. :)\"Are you flesh, or are you spirit?\"&&\"I am sorrow.\"&&~Ladyhawke

This is Tamaril. He's the bard/druid in my group and he was volunteered to lead the group against his own desires. But he quickly learned he was the only one in the party with the gift of gab.

Re: Portrait Gallery!
Can we do requests? I've been dying to get specific images for some of the characters I've created on paper. I'd do it myself, but I probably couldn't even create a new member of the Order of the Stick, much less to justice to poor little Bingo.

So! How about some 'full resolution' pics of the OOTS crew? Haley in particular of course...

What do you think this is, Chugworth Academy?? No "fanservice" pics! :P
Thanks for the compliment though. Four years of art school and years as a graphic designer, and I get semi-famous making stick figures. ::)Rich Burlew

Re: Portrait Gallery!
Ah, but see, it takes true artistic talent to work -with- the limitations of the stick figures and still make it as enjoyable and excellent as it is. The characters show expression, action, and personality with subtle variations in the minimalist structure of the underlying form... Seriously! Wasn't it Picasso who was highly trained and -could- paint very realistic art, but for his own reasons, chose to do his own thing?
V's expression of relief after cone-of-colding Elan, Roy poisoned, the halfling-vs-kobold deathmatch, the fact that most of the AD&D monsters are recognizable, these things are -good- and take skill, but it's a subtle thing that's easy to miss when you're too busy laughing at the strip itself.
So it shouldn't surprise me that, hey! you CAN draw really well! --- but then, I showed up here from being introduced to the strip alone, so I didn't know you were, for example, one of the finalists for the Wizards world-choosing thing, which is also awesome!
Anyway, love the strip, love your site, love the art! I honestly didn't mean to offend. Fame is where you find it, hey? :)

Re: Portrait Gallery!
No offense was taken. I just find it funny, that's all. I actually hardly ever get time to draw for real anymore, so it was kind of a luxury for me.

WotC Message Boards Art Gallery
They used to have people over there who handled requests - I'm pretty sure they still do, based upon some of the titles of the threads. For those of us who can't even draw a stick figure, you could try there for your request.John Ling

I can replace smilies, but I can't add new one into the message board system. Otherwise I would have done it long ago. You can link to off-site ones, like Zherog just did, though.

Re: Portrait Gallery!
*sigh* So jealous. My attempts at PC drawing were miserable at best - now I trace or Photoshop pics from elfwood instead. How long does it take y'all to draw those beautiful things?
Now if you don\'t mind, I am somewhat preoccupied telling the laws of physics to shut up and sit down.

Not my own work, someone else did this for me. Swords all wrong though, he's supposed to have an oversized greatsword. And no, he's certainly not a Drizz't clone, he's even a cannibal (hearts only, raw of course).

Re: Portrait Gallery!
I apologize in advance for the low quality here. This one's little old, but I like to think that my drawing skills have improved (slightly) since this one.
Plus, it's also a digital photo of a sketch.
Plus, my website space wont let me remotely link the image, so you have to go look at it yourself.

Then you\'ll need two attributes to describe how your StickGuy is special. (\"Special\" in this case probably referring to why your StickGuy rode the short StickBus to StickSchool.)&& - From the game document for \"StickGuy: The RPG\"

Re: Portrait Gallery!
I love the picture of Fifteen the transmuter. Bogotter's stuff is also really cool.
I've been lucky enough to have some amazing people do art for my game. Here's a couple of my favorites by David Hendee (who did some work in Monte Cook's Arcana Unearthed).
A portrait of Mara Thornhill. Mara is a young paladin of Aeos the Sun god, one of the few who have ever become a radiant knight. Her troops worship her as fearless and would follow her anywhere; she may have never even noticed, but she has the bad habit of leaving many broken hearts in her wake. Wielding the mace Lightbinder, she shines like a flame on the battlefield.

Re: Portrait Gallery!
And here's one, also by David Hendee, of Velendo and the brick. Velendo is an elderly man who was reluctantly pulled into the priesthood, and who has been bewildered to discover that people are treating him as a living saint. He worships Calphas the Wallbuilder, God of protection. An ordinary man doing extraordinary things, Velendo's actions over the past decade have reinvigorated his church and changed the world.
"I am a brick in my God's wall. It matters not if I chip or crack, as long as I hold firm in my faith."

Love the Genasi!
Those look great Piratecat!
Here's a painting I did for one of my campaigns (not a character, but rather an NPC). It loses something being digitally photographed :(
Please excuse the watermark :)
Here's one of my epic characters... she's not an angel, just got wings for the day and rolled a REALLY good bluff ;)
And well, cause it's about gaming I'll post this too... but since it's not a character portrait I'll just post the link. (It's a DM table I did for my husband hehe... I'm a GEEK!)

Those are really cool, and good job in casting True Ressurection on this thread because there may be more people out there you have great art but who missed this thread. Me? I'm a horrible artist...
