Aresk looked up from his book that he had been reading, a harrowed look on his face.
"I believe that if all magical traps, adn the like have been searched for, then we should carry on, and proceed deeper into the complex."
He then draws his sword (which is alight with LIGHTNING)
    "I hope your ready Iago."

Iago powers up an Eldritch Glaive, which is alight with HELLFIRE.Yeah, something like that.

Aresk nods his haggard face filled with a deep sorrow.
    "Then let us proceed."
His voice is hoarse, and seems very ragged, as if he had done a bit to much screaming, and this is just a little odd for a wizard, even if hes a spellsword.

The wise man fights not the battles he cannot win.

Iago's final act will be to activate a CL 5 Eternal Wand of Alter Self and become a Tren (a lizard creature, +8 NA) or a Troglodyte (+6 NA) depending on which the DM allows.

Derrat walks slowly forward, following the others. So that wand, where'd you get that? I could really use one of those.

Derrat moves to the door he saw earlier, and checks the other side with his senses.

((Troglodyte, I can't reference Tren, sorry. Which door?))

As you continue down the corridor, it turns to the left and goes on for a distance, the holed carpet and horrific statues continuing. On either side of hall is an ornate, wooden double door. The musty odor seems to come stronger from the one on the right.

As Iago passes one of the statues on the corner, he sees that the stone in its shield registers as magical.

Excuse me, but that shield appears to be magic, and in working condition. I think I shall inspect it.
Iago looks over the shield to see if it can be removed easily, as well as what kind of magical shield it is.

The shield itself is not magical, only the stone in the center. It registers as transmutation, strongly at that.

Hm. No to the shield, just a magical stone, it seems. Transmutative. Who wants to touch it? Perhaps our wizard could lend a hand? Iago asks, pointing out the set gemstone.

It might be useful. Who can Identify these things?

Just for the heck of it:

It is not a gemstone, simply a black rock. You can't tell if it is any specific item.

If it were cursed, it would more likely be Necromancy.

Iago removes the shield from the statue.

My regards, he says to the object.

    Edit: What kind of shield?

Allow me to take care of that for you. I have a way with these things.

Derrat uses Shape Stone to turn the stone shield into a very small container for the gem, and the rest he allows to form a sphere on the floor. He then pushes the sphere ahead of them into the door.

Nothing happens as you touch the shield. It resists for a moment then comes freely from the stone dwarf's hand.

    Neat.

    Iago handles the container carefully.

So I guess we won't find out what this is for a bit.

Well, it's the only magic in this place, so it must be *something*.

Although.... hm.... it wasn't stoned, so.... either it's resistant to stoning, wasn't affected because it is already a stone, or was set after the guy got medusafied?

    Hmm...

No, you went through the door, went down the hallway, turned left and now have a door on your left and right. Derrat can see a third a ways down directly in front of them. Sorry about that.

Say, Areesk, I don't suppose you brought along some Dancing Lights today? Could be useful.

Iago peers into the darkness carefully.

Hm.... I don't think the stone will set off weight plates, and we have two walking party members. Perhaps we could avoid setting things off by teleporting instead of walking, or riding a Floating Disk?

Indeed, Stupid Lights spells. I prefer the dark myself.

Well, how about each of the three of us takes a different door? I'll take the one down on the end.

Derrat move up to the door, sinks into the floor underneath it, and then moves forward and rises 20ft on the other side of the door, unless he senses something that would change his mind.
