Default Godzilla: Clash of the Titans

It was a cold night on the cliffs above the Pacific Ocean, as the lights of the peaceful sleeping city of Nemuro glistened in the night, just across the bay. At the top of Nassupu Point sat a white SUV. On it's side, was a stenciled paint job of a kaiju in profile, with the letters GPN underneath it. Just outside of the parked SUV were two people, a middle-aged bearded Japanese man and a younger girl. They were setting up a tripod-mounted sensor of some kind. They were Yuji Shinoda and his daughter Io. They were here because a daikaiju would be attacking here.

With their sensor set up, the two quickly reentered their heavily-modified SUV. A third person was sitting inside the vehicle already, a young Japanese woman with a camera around her neck. She looked profoundly bored.

"Is he coming yet? You said you could get me close to Godzilla," she said to Shinoda as he sat down in the driver's seat. He smiled at the remark, almost knowingly.

"Oh we'll get you close alright. Anything yet, Io?" he asked his daughter, turning around in his seat to watch as she operated the various computers set up in the back of the SUV. She was watching a single screen intently, where a large heat signature was moving towards the city.

"I've spotted him," she breathed "Heading towards the city,"

    _______________________________________

I breathed in the cold air deeply as my scaled head burst from the black waters of the Big Ocean. It felt good to have my head in clean air once again. I saw the lights of the pink skin's nest shining at me, and felt the familiar anger welling up within me once again. Those were the creatures that hunted me, that made prey so scarce down in the deep... they made me like this. My long, screeching roar split the air as I began to wade towards the nest. I smelt food as well, that delicious energy that flowed from those certain buildings. A deep hunger welled up inside of me, and my speed increased as I took long strides across the sea floor. Now I heard screams as the pink skins saw me, and fled. They had no courage when outside of their metal shells. I roared a second time and unleashed a stream of orange nuclear fire from my mouth, sweeping my head from left to right. Explosions lit up the night sky as my breath ignited the nest. I kept firing at the offending nest of pink skins as my great clawed feet reached land, flames spreading through their buildings, my footsteps crushing all underneath as I strode towards the food.

Silvia Remonstraus panted as she ran against the crowd, trying her best not to get swept under. Her hapless cameraman struggled to keep up with her.

"Come on Rick! Just a bit further! It's going to be the scoop of the year!"

"You know, Silvia, sane people run away from big huge death monsters, not towards them!"

"Sanity's for losers and idiots, hurry up!"

They rounded the corner and finally saw...it.

It was called the Rainmaker, after traumatized scientists from a (once secret) military base near Death valley had gotten back to civilization and reported the existence of the monster that sounded like a rainstick. According to them, it was some kind of alien creature from outer space that could control these metal things at will, like a living cloud of steel and titanium.

No one believed them at first, of course. Then it floated across the town one afternoon. The media went crazy over it, the National Guard was dispatched, and people in New Mexico, western Texas, Utah, and eastern California feared for their lives. Luckily, aside from its initial appearance to civilization, it never bothered humans again. The occasional expeditions sent out to study it came back with some information, and a few attempts were made to even try to capture it, but after the army tried using a large electromagnet to try and bring it down it utterly destroyed the armed escorts. After that, people left it alone.

Strangely, there were some people who began to worship it as a god, calling it the Bringer of Rain and the Iron Lord. These extremists believed that the Rainmaker came to judge and purge mankind of its sins, and are waiting for the day it unleashes destruction upon the world. People at first were frightened of their words, but when the Rainmaker simply floated about the desert apparently doing nothing, people eventually lost their fear. Some even went on long wilderness trips to take photos of it, calling themselves Rainchasers.

But now, it had arrived in Los Angeles.

"Rick? Rick! Get the damn camera rolling!"

    "I'm trying, I'm try-ok, it's on!"

"Alright." Silvia straightened her hair and clothes. Had to look professional, even in a major monster sighting. Channel 10 News and the art of Journalism demanded nothing less.

"This is Silvia Remonstraus, with Channel 10 News. I'm here live at the first Rainmaker sighing within an urban area since its first sighting more than half a year ago. As you can see," Rick panned the camera up to catch a full view of the floating monster, "the Rainmaker is well within city limits. If you can hear the ambient noise, that's the sound of rain the Rainmaker is so well known for."

Behind her, a Disciple of Rain cultist screamed, "Repent! Repent, for the end is nigh!"

Silvia turned around and grabbed him. "Sir, you're a member of the Disciples of Rain cult, correct?" The man nodded and began to shout more prophesies when Silvia cut in again. "What can you tell us about the Rainmaker?"

"Heathen!" he shouted. "You are unworthy to call him by His sacred name! Call him the Iron Lord, if you must! And with reverence!"

"Ok, sir, uh, what can you tell me of the Iron Lord?"

    "That wasn't with reverence!"

"Could you please answer the question, sir?"

"Fine!" He raised his face to the sky and lifted his arms. "He is a creature sent down from Heaven to judge mankind! To purge it of it sins! He is the Rainmaker, the Iron Lord, the Bringer of the Cleansing Rain! He-"

"Do you have any sort of scripture, or some kind of proof that the, uh, Iron Lord is a heavenly bei-"

"Proof?! Look upon its divine form, woman! Behold! How can it not be a creature of heaven?!" He wandered off, shouting more prophesies of doom and woe.

"Well, uh," continued Silvia. "That was a member of the Disciples of Rain cult, giving us his perspective on the event." She looked up at the behemoth that was still floating in the air. If it weren't for the fact that its sheer size alone was terrifying to behold, the creature almost looked...pensive. The sound of rain was fairly loud but not painfully so.

"According to military officials, the Iron L--oh forget it, Rainmaker situation is under control. They have yet to answer for research expeditions lost last year--oh! It's moving! Rick, get the camera up there--it's moving!"

As calm and docile as ever, the Rainmaker floated its way to the city's skyscrapers.

"Man..this is some boring-ass work"Private Johnson complained, his tall, lanky frame sprawled in the back of the Humvee as it bounced and shuddered over the low, flat landscape of the American Mid West. His dark skin glistened with sweat under his combat fatigues, and his assault rifle was held leisurely across his lap.
"Quit the bullsh*t Johnson, Just keep an eye on the Bug" This from Briggs, a lieutenant with a serious face behind thick-rimmed, sturdy glasses.
"It's gonna be a long ride as it is" He grumbled under his breath.

"So what's the big bicho doing anyway?"This came from the driver Ramirez, who glanced in his rearview mirror curiously. All he could see from side to side was a gently undulating wall of shiny chrome, the rich, verdant farmland disappearing from view.

"Him?He ain't doing nothing but ruining the view. Don't know why we didn't just nuke the ugly thing back in L.A." Johnson snorted.

"Hey, you gonna talk like that I'm gonna kick you out right here and let him eat you. The big Bug saved L.A., not his fault he's the size of a city block"Ramirez said empatheticaly.
"My Mother said he don't eat anything that moves, and he beat the crap outta one of those things that popped up in Manhattan man.."

"Whatever...Just what the hell they think we're gonna do if that thing decides to eat us huh?" Johnson sighed and tipped his helmet down, settling back for a nap...

    ======

The creature that was now known as Factory moved with deliberate, unhurried pace across the land around it. It was Hungry. The last place it had fed had been a small landfill, barely more than a gulp.
The other small tidbits, strips of Highway, the occasional abandoned gas station were insubstantial and unfullfilling. Factory's belly was empty, the normal bustle of creation and recycling stilled but for the smallest portion of itself.

It missed when everyone and everything was bigger than it, and was still thinking of reasons the whole world had suddenly shrunk, but it lacked the true intelligence to ponder much more than a mild curiosity, the uncertainty like a small itch it couldn't scratch.

Its 'eyes' swept over the line of quick-moving, tiny vehicles in front of it, a flotilla of humvees and all-terrain vehicles speeding in herald of the strange beast.

Ranging about the Creature were dozens of small, strange creations. From a Volkswagen Beetle, with four sharp,pincer-like robotic legs to an M1 Abrams tank, its turret forming a crude third leg, the shambling creatures looked slow and gangly. Video footage that had flooded You-tube had shown that the junk-mounds were deadly, swarming the 'Clover' Monster like ants on a mantis, pricking it to death with sheer numbers.

Factory keened, a sharp sussorous of clicks and high-frequency noise, it's long,radio-tower long antennae sweeping the air in long, ponderous sways, sweeping the air before it...

"I want to know what it's saying, now! Someone get the antennae up quickly Quickly!" The old man stood ramrod straight in the back of the upconverted eighteen wheeler. He was unassuming in nature, his hair a distinguished grey that made his academic air complete.

Around him his assistants bustled about, and the trailer was fileld with clicks, whines, beeps, and whirrs as Factory's 'speech' filtered into the complex antenna bolted to the trailer's sides.

"Do we have a translation yet?"He asked impatiently, leaning over the shoulder of a young assistant.

    "It's coming in now Sir"

Hungry...[Factory] is Hungry. [Factory] Hungry. The soft, synthesized voice suddenly rang true as the trailer's computers converted the system code into the gist of the giant behemoth's thoughts.

"Tell it it has to wait, it'll have food soon" The Man said, the assistants long, slender fingers going to work, the words popping up across his computer screen.
"Professor Smith? I don't think it's going to-" The assistant's voice was cut off by another long burst of Code.

[Factory] Hungry Now. [Factory] not Wait. Please Move...Please Move..Please Move The androgynous voice of the synthesizer was at odds with the creatures bulk even as it started to turn, causing its tank and Humvee escorts to flee to either side.

Factory's huge frame undulated over a highway Sign.
    Los Angeles Outskirts: Next Exit
A moment later it and the cement it was based in was being tugged up into the creature's interior, sorted and filtered by countless machines, dissected and melted down in its atomic heart......

    ----
    Present
Factory had been a lucky Monster. Not only had the HammerDown protocol that had destroyed Manhattan ruined the American people's appetite for Nuclear weapons on the Kaiju.

Added to the fact, the Massive metal Kaiju had never openly attacked a human, its only fault the massive property damage it caused.

It had, instead, killed a Clover Kaiju, and driven its small parasite creatures into the sewers and alleyways, where military strike teams had finished them out.

The big Bug had even gotten a fan club, and occasionally helicopters would buzz by,dropping huge banners proclaiming 'Factory #1!" Or "American Made!" as it made its way down wide highways, meandering under the prod of strike missiles courtesy of the US Air force.

Of course, the Military was a bit miffed when Factory decided it wanted back in L.A., but luckily the city was already deserted, evacuated while the Army swept out the remaining Infestation.

By the time the other Kaiju arrived at L.A., they'd find a neat square of the center of the sprawling city stripped bare down to the pavement, huge holes from Factory's Piston-like feet in the blacktop.

From the rubble broken SUV's peered out from broken walls, their wheels replaced with telephone pole legs, and those with flexing 'jaws' dragged the still parked cars down abandoned streets, feeding their 'Mother' by placing them in piles before the massive Kaiju, and letting it steam-roll over it.
"Fear Vs. Hope. Hardly an even match"

"That's because you think of hope as something light and fragile. My version of hope has calluses and dirt under her fingernails and isn't past bringing brass knuckles to a fight."

    It came from the sky.

    No one saw it coming.

They just weren't expecting it. It had been blazing its way up the Chinese coast since its first appearance, making a beeline towards Shanghai. No one anticipated that it would decide to try to jump the ocean on some strange whim. Even if they had anticipated it, they probably wouldn't have predicted its success.

It cleared the East China Sea in one giant leap. Who knows what prompted it to try. How could it have known there was land on the other side of the great water? Why would it try to make the jump, even knowingly?

Regardless of the monster's reasons, its presence was undeniable. It crushed the Amuran on landing, and that was just the beginning. It would've leveled Kagoshima if the the JSDF hadn't managed to scare it away by triggering the eruption of Sakurajima.

It has moved into the countryside for the moment, but it's only a matter of time... minutes, hours, days... who knows... until it strikes another major population center.

    Gryllodon has made landfall.

    He has reached Japan.

    He is angry.

    He is always angry.

It was happening all over the world. Perhaps it was design by some incredibly strong outside force. Perhaps it was a coordinated attack in a previously unseen level of intelligence from the Kaiju. Perhaps it was simply random chance, and it would never happen again. But would there be a world left to be thankful? All over the world, Kaiju were attacking on a scale previously unprecedented. The strange beasts had vastly grown in number during the sixty years since Godzilla first destroyed Tokyo. And now it seemed like every last one of them was hell bent on destroying the human race. Except for one. The world's only deliberately created Kaiju. The greatest pinnacle of military technology. The only weapon that had ever managed to repel Godzilla more than once.
    Mechagodzilla.
    ------------------------------
Ground crew scurried around the titanic form. Mechagodzilla had been ordered to be in fit fighting condition, and the crew was working 24/7, running diagnostics, stress checking the weapons systems, and generally ensuring that it remained strong. Mechagodzilla, or "Mecha-G" as its ground crew affectionately called it, was very nearly ready. Toshiro Umezawa sat back, breathing a sigh of relief after having had to contort his body painfully to reach a loose screw from an inconveniently placed access panel. It was one of the last problems that still remained after the thorough workover the ground crew had done. Toshi had volunteered for the "hell shift," working forty-eight hour shifts with twelve hour breaks in between them. He had been doing this for a week and a half, and was not in good shape. He rubbed his face with his hand, and worked up his energy to grab his kit and move. Toshi found that he was less tired when he was moving. He couldn't afford to slack off at a time like this. The world was under assault, and Mechagodzilla had been volunteered for a crucial part of the plan to let Kaiju destroy each other. The time had come, and Mecha-G was ready.
    ------------------------------
Takezo stood on the access ramp that went across Kiryu's giant hangar, roughly chest high to the behemoth. He had been selected to pilot the great beast. It would be a dangerous job, but it was necessary, and he had trained vigorously for years to get this far. He had studied Kiryu very closely, and was familiar with every system, every weapon, and every weakness. As the main pilot, he was in a precarious position, but it was one Takezo had worked hard to achieve. The time had come, and Takezo was ready.
    ------------------------------
The Prime Minister was holding a press conference on the reactivation of Mechagodzilla. He had explained its vital role on the plan to destroy the Kaiju, and some of the changes in its weapons. He was now taking questions. One reporter stood as he called on her. "Mr. Prime Minister, Mechagodzilla has broken control twice, correct? What's to say it won't do so again?" The Prime Minister smiled. "We have replaced any aspect of it that has caused those problems in the past. Mechagodzilla is now totally under our control." "Mr. Prime Minister, hasn't Mothra objected to Mechagodzilla in the past?" "Not to Mechagodzilla, but to using the bones of the first Godzilla. When it washed up on Japan's shores, we removed those bones so as not to disturb Mothra." "Several times, a human has had to go into Mechagodzilla. Are there any plans for that?" "Yes. For the first time in history, Mechagodzilla will be piloted from within. We will be using the new Sychronization system, which will allow the pilot to directly control Godzilla. My friends, the time has come, and Japan is ready!"

Whatever it was, marine biologists knew it could be a threat to the ecosystem, and it's discovery could make them rich. Since about the HammerDown event, the Center for Marine Study based on the east coast of the U.S. had noticed strange activity in the ocean, "strange" being a relative term during these times.

The activity was the gravitation of sea life away from a certain area, there was certainly some life there, but for some reason that they could not reason, all the marine creatures, whales, sharks, fish, giant squids, any that seemingly could, had fled an area of the ocean, and that area was moving upward.

To ascertain the nature of this strange bubble, the Center sent one of their ships in to investigate. it arrived in the late afternoon roughly half a week after the discovery, it was foggy, which seemed odd, and in the distance they could make out a strange light. The captain ordered the ship to move closer to the light, and the ship shuddered into motion.

The light seemed to be moving, it always shifted back whenever they got close, and the Captain became more and more curious. The ship never slowed, getting closer and closer, they believed, to the lights TRUE origin. Perhaps the distance was merely a trick of the fog he thought... then he saw it...

    ---

As the ship drew within range, Abyss drew closer to the surface, when the ship finally saw the actual fleshy tentacle that held the light, it gave off a shock, and the ship was silent. Abyss reared out of the water, his form as visible by the ships crew just a massive mouth, above which two massive eyes stare menacingly, it seemed as Charybdis, the living whirlpool, that sucked everything into its maw, and then it was on the ship. A whole section was bit off, and the metal spat out, while the humans were quickly devoured, the rest of the ship soon followed, and soon all that was left was a few pieces of scrap, hidden in the fog, and an eerie light that gleamed in the foggy mist.

Abyss followed the mist as it rolled onward, knowing what an excellent way to find food it was, and so he moved onward, his eerie luminescent bulb a beacon within the fog which rolled toward his goal, New York City...

"Hold on and let me get this straight:" barked Colonel Howard, inching menacingly closer to Doctor Wayneswright with each word. "The U.S. military funnels over $2 billion to you labcoats for a solution to our monster problem, and you come up with a device that ATTRACTS the ****ers? I oughta hang you for treason myself you son of a bitch!"

"You asked for a solution to our kaiju problem, not a weapon." Replied Elliot Wayneswright, throwing in a stony glare for good measure. "Using this device we should be able to draw kaiju away from civilian areas and possibly into conflict with other kaiju."

The Colonel grudgingly accepted this answer, grunting gutturally to save face. "I still don't see why you had to fly us down to Puerto Rico to test the damn thing, and especially here of all places." He swept his right arm around, gesturing to the ruined army base around them.

"This was the last reported area of a major military conflict with a kaiju, and the surrounding area has been evacuated. It's the perfect site, really." Replied the scientist, simultaneously directing the efforts of his tech team as they primed the device. "Anyway, we should know if it works in about thirty seconds." Thirty seconds later, a monstrous metal roar split the air. According to its specifications, the sound should have been picked up by any kaiju within a 300 mile radius...

...it needn't have been that far. As if on cue, the ground began to rumble, and the gigantic pile of scrap metal about 50 meters from the machine stood up.

Five minutes later, a 40 meter-tall monstrosity headed northwest across the ocean floor towards the continental U.S. Embedded in its left shoulder was a shiny new $2 billion investment.

Default Re: Godzilla: Clash of the Titans

Kumamoto, Japan, a prefecture located on the southern island of Kyushu:

Lt. Makoto, of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) sat at his radar console, tracking the creature. Although it had not been overtly hostile, and had in fact been pivotal in destroying the meganulon that had been wreaking havoc in the Kitamatsu area, orders had come down from the very top that the creatures position needed to be known at all times. Lt. Makoto was tied into the systems of a E-767 AWACS that had been tasked with following the creature, offically called Rodan, at a safe distance. Between the AWACS, the radar systems, and satelite observation, the JASDF was beginning to form a very solid picture of the creatures habits, patterns of behavior, and movements.

Makoto knew why they were concerned. Recent kaiju activity around the world seemed to indicate that the number of active creatures and entites was on an upswing. It was inevitable that soon, there would be a conflict, and the only way that Japan would be able to survive is if it could somehow drive these creatures away, or perhaps cause them to fight each other.

The lieutenant continued to monitor the flight of the massive creature, transmitting the data to the offices of Dr. Yamada, head of Kaiju research and Defense Studies at Kumamoto University.

    ...........

Kumamoto University, Department of Kaiju Research

"Fascinating," Dr. Yamada exclaimed, "I had never hoped that within my life time, we would see another specimen of Rodan. And such a perfect one at that. You can see," he says to his assistnats, directing their attention to a large screen on which images of the Rodan attacks from 1956 are displayed next to images of the more recent events near the Kitamatsu mines, "that the apperance of this creature is the same as the original Rodan, and perhaps it is the child of the original creatures."

"Doctor, what is the signifigance of it's similarity to those monsters? What does this mean for us and the safety of our city, our nation?" General Kawashima, the head liason between the JASDF and this Kaiju Defense think tank asked, a note of urgency and concern in his voice.

"The signifigance, General," the Doctor responded, "is that the original Rodan was unpredictable. He fought against Godzilla, but also alongside him against Ghidora. He had destroyed cities, and he had fought to defend them. He even was willing to give up his life force to revive Godzilla. In other words, we did not truly know how to predict his actions. If this beast is similarly random, it will make our models and simulations virtually useless. But, if we could somehow direct the beast, move it about like a playing piece on a game board, then we could control the way that these engagements might work out to our favor. We might even be able to befriend Rodan, and the possibilities before us if we can achieve that, General, are truly unlimited."

    ...........

Somewhere in the skies over Japan:

He gloried in the freedom of flight. On land, he was awkward at best, but the air was his place, and here he was master. Large fish and sharks, as well as some livestock, had provided him with food for the past weeks, as had the meganulon that he had destroyed. He continued to hunt the massive insects, although they had mostly retreated to beneath the earth. What other sustenance he needed seemd to come to him from the heat of the crater, though he did not know or understand why that might be.

But now, such basic drives were lost in the sheer joy of flying. Moving rapidly, he flew across Kyushu, passing over the nests of the strange small creatures. This world was new to him, and he had never seen such beasts before his long slumber. So far, they had not done anything to stand out to him as a threat, and they were to small to be of much use as food except in large numbers. He mostly left them alone, only occasionaly zooming over their strange stone nests to remind them that he was there and that the sky was his.

Now heading out over the ocean, he started to climb, breaking out above the cloud cover, wings spread wide as he was shilloutted against the sun. Tucking his wings in, he spun, dove towards the clouds, and erupted from beneath them screaming his dominance of the air to any who could hear him.

    Rodan had returned.

"It's Millenium" Shinoda said as he drove the Godzilla Prediction Network SUV along a road on the heights of the Nassupu peninsula. Miles across the bay, they could see the city in flames, and Godzilla striding through the destruction, his famous roar breaking what would otherwise be a silent night. Screams filled the air, screams of Nemuro citizens trapped, burning, dying. A sick feeling welled up from deep within Shinoda. No matter how long he studied godzillae and other kaiju, he could never get used to the destruction.

"Millenium?" asked Yuki, the young reporter girl as her camera clicked, capturing shots of the kaiju's attack on Nemuro.

"Yeah, there's three godzillae. Showa, Heisei and Millenium," the older man answered,

"What's the difference?" said Yuki as she continued to take pictures.

"Appearance and behavior. Showa's the oldest, and shortest at 50 meters. He has less prominent teeth, a blunter snout, and his spines are smaller and more uniform. Heisei's the middle one, and the tallest at 80 meters. He's got larger spines than Showa, and he's the bulkiest overall. Millenium, the one in front of us now, he's the youngest. Most prominent, jagged spines and fangs, middle height at 55 meters, and orange breath instead of blue," he explained, adding the last point as Godzilla let loose with a stream of orange thermonuclear fire that tore up a swathe of Nemuro.

"What about behavior?" the reporter inquired, now taking notes on a small pad with her camera beside her.

"Showa's probably the least destructive. He regards Japan as his territory, doesn't like other monsters around it. He protects it, in his own way. Heisei is full of rage against Japan, he attacks our cities with no provocation and no reason, but will sometimes fight off other monsters if they draw his anger. Millenium here, he feeds off the energy from our power plants, he's just looking for food and seems to regard humans as competitors for food,"

Stinging. The humans are in their metal shells now, and firing their little stinging weapons at me. It matters not. The little stingers never stopped me before, why would they work now? For such numerous little creatures, they weren't that smart. A blast of my breath dispatched a whole swarm of their little flying metal shells, a stomp of my foot crushes some of their machines on the ground. Too easy. Suddenly, there is pain, more much intense than the little stingers. I turn quickly to see some of their little machines with the cannons on the top, shooting beams of blue fire at me. A second blast hits with enough force to make me stumble back. I roar in pain and anger and step forward, only to have another blast hit me. Enough fooling around! My fire quickly destroys the machines in one long sweep.

Leaving their nest behind me, I strode towards the food that I smelt. There it was, in one of those big storage buildings, just waiting for me. I roared again as more of their machines fired at me. I roared in rage and obliterated them with a blast of fire. They really were very inefficient fighters, the pink-skins. Worthless without their metal shells, and even those weren't worth much. Many of the little pink skins fled out of the food building as I approached, no doubt they were trying to have their fill too. Smashing the thing open with a swat of my claws, the nourishing energy began to seep into me as I demolished the whole place. I roared again, now in satisfaction.

It was night. Aside from the stars, the only sources of light were the slowly strobing warning lights mounted to either side of the Japanese fishing trawler Rakki. Its decks glistened. nets bulging with an entire school of tuna that the ship had tracked down and scooped up.

Seated at the rear of the boat, Fujita Tadayoshi yawned sleepily as he looked out over the dark waters. Having long since grown used to the smell of tuna, the old fisherman puffed absentmindedly on the cigarette in his mouth as he stared at nothing in particular. The Rakki had served well again, but not spectacularly; tuna paid the bills and kept his family in clothes and food, but not a great deal else.

Then again, being a fisherman was proving to be an exceedingly wise decision, considering how far from shore his usual workplace was. And with the rash of kaiju attacks sprouting all over the place, not working in an office was a very good thing indeed. He'd lost count of how many times Gojira or one of the creature's friends had made Tokyo its personal stomping ground...a few of his friends lived there, or had lived there. Only one was still there - the other three were dead or had fled into the countryside.

For his part, Fujita was seriously considering retiring soon himself. His bones creaked every so often, when they weren't just outright sore. He didn't even have to worry about the family business, either, what with his eldest son having grown up learning the life of the professional fisherman. Just look at how diligently he sat in the main cabin monitoring the radar, while their two cousins snored away belowdecks.

As if on cue, Yamana Tadayoshi called out from the inner cabin, "Otousan, would you please come here for the briefest of moments?"

Grumbling, Fujita levered himself out of his chair and limped into the cabin. "What is it, boy?"

"The sonar display, Otousan...I think it's broken. Look."

He gestured at the display in question, and indeed, it appeared to have spontaneously fried itself. They were eighty miles away from any sort of land, but according to the sonar display, the average water depth beneath their boat was less than fifty feet. "Strange...get a sounding cable, maybe we've found some sort of shallow atol out here in the middle of nowhere."

Yamana complied, hauling the knotted rope out of an old sea chest and lugging it to the edge of the boat. With a splash, he heaved the weighted end out into the water and started counting the knots as they slipped past his hands.

With another splash, an arm - no, a tentacle - the size of a tall tree burst out of the ocean, towering over the Rakki for a moment before smashing down brutally. Neither Yamana nor his father had enough time to so much as scream.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

    Another morsel............it was food. But.....not enough food......still hungry. These surface things, they......are everywhere....ripe for the picking....but too small.....to make a decent meal.....just nibbles. Pinpricks...against my hunger, tiny droplets...in the raging ocean.....that is my appetite. They...should have been.....more careful....to have poisoned....my oceans in this way....it....is unforgivable. Gorge myself, I will...but real food I.....require. So far...I have avoided...the surface things' nests.....the poison there...is far stronger....than anywhere else. But....it may be...unavoidable. Preying.....on these gnats..individually....cannot suffice. Will not....suffice. Perhaps feasting....on an entire nest....will sate...my hunger for a time.

As the mist rolled onto New York, Abyss noticed something odd, besides the obvious warm glow of radiation there were... no people, no food, it was all smashed. Abyss was hungry, and though he yearned to linger near the irradiated land, the call of his hunger was stronger. He moved further down the coast, eating ships where he could, trying to find some proper meals amidst all these tiny-insignificants. He moved deeper and deeper south, moving slowly toward Miami, heralded by a mist, a mist in which there was a glow, like a lantern of death, leaving naught but sunken ships, devoured crew, and havoc in its wake, like a moving Bermuda triangle...

GODZILLA ATTACK IN NEMURO. ALL PERSONNEL ON STANDBY. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. KIRYU SQUADRON, YOU ARE SCRAMBLED.

The emotionless female voice blared out over the speakers in the gargantuan Mechagodzilla hangar. Toshi and the other ground crew leaped up from their various activities and began swarming around Mechagodzilla, removing various equipment that was being used for diagnostic purposes. Toshi went straight for the entrance door, entering his code to undo the locks and allow the pilot to get in. He heard a voice behind him. "Excuse me. Um...Toshiro, right? " Toshi turned to see Takezo standing behind him. He snapped off a quick salute. "Sir!" Takezo smiled grimly. "At ease. Wish me luck." He extended a hand. Toshiro shook it quickly. "Send that sonofabitch back to the depths he came from." Takezo nodded. "Thanks." He dashed down the hallway into Mechagodzilla's chest, hooking up various wires and apparatuses to various parts of his body. "Activate." The cockpit vanishes. Takezo is synched. He is Mechagodzilla. The lifting platform rises. Takezo's squadmates lift him into the air with tow cables descended from the White Heron planes. They fly.
    -----------------------------------------------------
Nemuro. Godzilla roars his triumph over the pitiful humans. "Let me down." The cables release. Jets emerge from Kiryu's back and legs, propelling him through the air. The White Herons dart around Godzilla, firing on him, annoying him, distracting him. Mechagdozilla rockets through the air, heading for the as yet unaware Godzilla. He jets cut, and with a power twist Mechagodzilla spins and smashes his tail into the side of Godzilla's head, sending the mighty beast sailing through a nearby building. Mechagodzilla lands heavily, sliding, facing
    its prone opponent.

A group of campers were trudging north, north into the Sierra's. They trudged up the snow-capped mountain, barely stopping to set up camp. No sign of him, huh? One of the older campers spoke first. No body answered him. I'm starting to think this expedition was a waste. I mean, where is the Real proof Big-Foot exists? None of the other campers answered, because it seemed like a giant eye had grow out of the mountain.

Kneefi opened an eye. He had been disturbed from his sleep by this little hairless apes. This did not please him. Shaking of the snow that had collected in his hair, Kneefi roared and beat his chest. The little raisin things scattered. This pleased Kneefi just fine. Turning West, he started his galloping run, reminiscent of a horse. But then Kneefi noticed something. The trees. The trees grow big here. So Kneefi stopped, and pulled one out of the ground with a monumentous crackling of roots. He grabbed the tree, and slid his hand down it, removing all the branches. Kneefi smiled a large, scary grin. This would do fine.

I looked up from my meal. It was the Metal One. That metal image the pink-skins had built in mockery of me and my kind. He would not interrupt me today. The jagged spines on my back began to glow a bright orange, emanating extreme heat. Whisps of nuclear fire appeared between my closed teeth. A growl rose up from deep in my throat, raising like my rage for the Metal One, that perversion, that twisted impersonation of my kind. But I did not loose my nuclear breath, no he would expect that. Instead I charged him, roaring in anger, and I grabbed the Metal One around mid-section with both arms, claws digging into it's cold skin, jaws locking around it's 'throat'. I kept myself charged up, the intense heat of my skin held close to the Metal's One coldness. I began to expell pulses of nuclear energy from my body, right into the Metal's One form. I roared my loudest into the audio sensors on the sides of it's head, trying to deafen the humans inside. Today would be the day that I deal with the Metal One.

"I dunno, previous Mechagodzillae have been destroyed by their counterparts. But this one is a lot more powerful than it's predecessors. It's going to be a fight," And as he said this, Godzilla's ear-splitting roar pierced the air, and the two titans moved towards each other.

"Mother of God indeed - looks like it's our turn, but no one's going to say it caught us off guard. At the least, we'll give it a bloody nose, and maybe we'll convince the critter to go back to Tokyo where it belongs. Sound the red alert, soldier."
    ----------------------------------------

    Panama Canal
    Central America
    Spring 2011
    1010 hours

The Panamanain Army, Canal Guardian Division, was set out and arrayed in full impressive force, ready for the impending arrival of their titanic visitor. Tanks were manned, rifles loaded, missiles armed. They even had a battery of the newfangled cadmium-tipped rockets on some mobile launcher trucks, bought at hefty expense from the Americans - this was quite a distance from Godzilla's typical stomping grounds, but one of the things had attacked New York a few years ago.

For the past twenty minutes, the anomalous sonar contact had grown steadily closer. Now, though, the waiting and anxious soldiers could see a faint ripple in the ocean waters ahead as something very large approached underwater. A pair of torpedo boats steamed out to meet it, firing a paired salvo from each of them with high-explosive warheads. The creature didn't even slow down, but two tree-trunk-sized tentacle arms burst from the waters with a crash and simultaneously swatted the boats into the air, to land and explode a hundred feet inland. The rest of its body surfaced next with a roar of displaced water, and only years of discipline kept the troops holding their ground.

Through a haze of slight shell-shock, the only thought that penetrated the commanding officer's mind was the concept that he had eaten one of the beast's smaller relatives for dinner last night, lightly fried and breaded. It'd take a lot more breading to turn this thing into calamari. The main body of the kaiju must have been twenty meters or so - smaller than average (average being a relative term when discussing giant monsters), but the ten equally massive tentacles sprouting from its sides could easily quadruple that length. Its two eyes were easily three meters in diameter each, and as the creature loomed over them, he felt that the one gigantic orb was staring down straight at him.

Then the creature attacked, amidst the bellowed orders to open fire. The tidal wave created by its emergence devastated the nearby shoreline, but the troops had deployed further back than it reached. Bullets whined and shells boomed, but nothing seemed able to penetrate the immense squid's hide. One arm, each sucker the size of a city bus, rose up to flatten itself over a row of emplaced soldiers, their terrified screams cut off abruptly by wet cracking and splattering noises. The arm rose into the air again, its underside now coated with gore, and Kraken brought it back towards its central beak, razor-sharp tongue darting out to scrape its meal clean with an almost domestic precision even as its other limbs laid bloody waste to the surrounding humans.

One rocket team, a bit brighter than their comrades, managed to drag their launcher to a better angle and let loose an entire salvo into the nearby exposed eye. With a ear-shattering keening, the monster reeled sideways, twisting its wounded eye away from the attack even as its many limbs flailed spasmodically. The "lucky" rocketeers got a brief glimpse of Kraken's profile, bony beak gaping wide like the gates of Hades, before it vomited forth a spray of bubbling black goo. Everywhere the stuff landed, it burned, flesh and metal and stone running like liquid ruin. Weapon teams dissolved into puddles of screaming goo, tanks collapsed into heaps of molten metal, and the remains of the Canal Guardian Division began to fall back in disarray.

Kraken did not pursue, instead forging up the Canal, crushing locks and structures beneath its massive body, one mighty eye partially clouded over in blue. Within the space of an hour, it had reached the Carribean and was swimming slowly towards the Florida coast, leaving hundreds of millions of dollars in destroyed property, and billions more of lost profit, in its wake.

Inside the metal womb, Takezo's otherwise inert body grins through the horrible pain of Godzilla's shockwaves. "Nice try, you big Gorilla-Whale." Mechagodzilla grabs Godzilla's shoulder, and a spiral panel opens in the palm. The Cadmium Tranquilizer stored in that arm shoots into Godzilla's flesh, point blank. The effect is nearly immediate, as Godzilla's pulses grow weaker. Taking advantage of the behemoth's surprise, Mechagodzilla breaks the tip off in the wound and breaks Godzilla's grip, shoving off and flying into the air. From a safe(ish) distance, Mechagodzilla releases a veritable barrage of fire from its pack and arms. Scores of missiles fly unerringly at Godzilla, detonating in a cloud of smoke and shrapnel. Dozens of Laser blasts from Kiryu's arms fire into the smoke, accompanied by a pair of Maser blasts from his shoulder cannons. A roar of defiance blasts from the cloud, and a weakened blast of orange radiation rockets towards Mechagodzilla, who dodges enough that it is barely clipped. The blast still knocks him out of his easy flight, and it takes several seconds to recover. The smoke clears, revealing a Godzilla annoyed at being stung and pushed back a few steps.

((Alright, the effects of the tranquilizer were decided through a die roll, since Godzilla has such a powerful constitution. Each time I use the tranq, it'll have different die roll (For the record, MG only has one tranq at a time to prevent cheese buildup). Also, if you disrupt one of my posts can you tell me which point it is disrupted from?))

    Abyss

After traveling across the coastland, Abyss finally came to the Florida coastline, he was drawn to the centers of population, and any nuclear powerplants. The fog still hung heavy over his fleshy light, as Abyss floated closer and closer to the Miami area...

    ---
    Nuclear Submarine, U.S.S Chronos

"Captain, you're not going to believe this!"

The ensign was frantic, he couldn't believe what he was seeing on the radar, the Captain leaned over his shoulder

"Calm down son, tell me what you've got"

The man looked up at the captain, one headphone off of his ear

"It's huge, I don't know what it is, it could easily be a whale, but they don't come this close to the coast, and it's moving way too fast!"

The Captain thought for a moment "It must be one of those critters we heard about from New York, well, it died, this one will too"

The captain gave the order to fire all torpedoes, and a salvo went out. Abyss, the obvious target, saw these weapons and spun to avoid them, but they blew near him. the shockwaves knocked him about and caused him to go into a rage, they slowed him down however, and he was unable to act before a second salvo came at him

Abyss shook off the effects, and he was prepared this time, the glow of his headlight increased, and sent an electrical through the water, destroying the torpedoes in the water, and those still in the submarine, as explosions shook all across its hull, it's nuclear payload leaked out, and as it sunk Abyss basked in the healing glow of the now polluted waters.

Kumamoto University, the office of Dr. Yamada

“Sir, a report just came in from Fukuoka!” A young airman called out, as he burst through the door of the office. The airman saluted hastily, thrusting a report into General Kawashima’s hand. As the General read, his face grew grim. “It appears, Doctor, that we may have an opportunity to turn one problem against another. Gryllodon has attacked Fukuoka.”

Dr. Yamada seemed almost delighted, an oddly out of place emotion given the subject matter. “General, the research we have done on the pheromone dispensers is sound. We should be able to use them to mimic the scent of the meganulon that Rodan has been hunting as his primary food source. Using the dispensers, we could lead him towards Fukuoka, and then instinct would take over. To Rodan, Gryllodon might appear to be just a meal.”

“While I appreciate your enthusiasm Doctor, I am hesitant to unleash another creature in the city. However, I do not see that I have any other choice. The military will be useless against these kaiju, but hopefully they will hurt each other badly enough that we can finish them off.” Picking up the Doctor’s phone, Kawashima punched in a number. “Kawashima here. Get me two F-16’s, loaded with Dr. Yamada’s pheromone dispensing units. Order them to lead Rodan toward Fukuoka, and attempt to create hostilities between the two beasts. And mobilize the army as well. If this works, we may have a chance at killing one of these monstrosities’.”

    …………………..

    Kumamoto Airbase

The two pilots were nervous. The Fighting Falcon was a highly maneuverable aircraft, no longer cutting edge but nonetheless an agile and effective dogfighter. But they were not up against enemy pilots, nor would they even be carrying weapons. Instead, they had been tasked with a potentially lethal game of chase. They had to attract the attention of a almost unimaginably large creature, capable of flying at least mach 1.5 and equally capable of smashing their aircraft like so many paper airplanes, and get it to follow them right into the path of yet another massive monster.

    Understandly, the pilots were worried.

But they had a job to do, and so once they got the go ahead from the flight line and clearance from the tower, they throttled up and took off, following the AWACS controller’s directions and heading right towards Rodan.

    …………………..

    The skies over Japan:

Crusing along, Rodan was suddenly alert. He smelt the hated foe, meganulon. Though he had never known them to come so high, the scent was unmistakable. It awoke in him a combination of rage and hunger. Looking around, he noticed two of the small, fast birds that occasionally followed him. Although they looked nothing like the meganulon, he knew the smell, and the only course open to him was to attack. With a mighty beat of his wings, he accelerated towards the hated foe.

    …………………..

“Target acquired, pheromone dispensers armed. It appears he has taken the bait.” The lead F-16 pilot ordered his wingman to drop his fuel tanks, and together they began to play this deadly game.

    …………………..

Rodan tried to catch the small, maneuverable birds, but they were crafty. They would go off in strange and unexpected directions, climbing or diving, pirouetting out of his reach at the last moment. His pursuit was relentless, and the miles blurred past beneath him. The quarry was descending, closer to the stone nests of the small creatures, and staying maddeningly right out of reach.

    …………………..

“Target number 2 acquired. Pheromone dispensers locked on to Gryllodon’s general area. Standard targeting pattern established. Fox 3, fox 3, fire now”

The radar guided missiles that formed the body of the pheromone generators launched, sending them earthward to impact at coordinates that put them within 50 meters of Gryllodon’s position. At the same time, the F-16’s clawed for altitude, hoping that Rodan would take the bait and follow the pheromone trail in. Unfortunately, the second war bird was just a hair slow as is pulled up, and the flashing jaws of Rodan severed the plane’s right wing, sending it tumbling downwards.

    …………………..

He managed to kill one of the annoying and evasive birds, though when he bit into it he noticed it did not taste like the meganulon. No matter. Below, he saw a creature that smelled of both his hated foe and also of food, something much more substantial then anything he had eaten yet in this world. His blood was up, and he was angry. The chase had been unproductive, and now it was time for something to pay. If it was something he could eat, so much the better. Screaming like a massive, prehistoric eagle, Rodan tucked his wings and dove, pulling up at the last second to rip and tear at the massive cricket with his talons.

Cadmium. Oh how I detested cadmium, weakening, paralyzing cadmium. The Metal one had injected it into me. I felt drowsy, but I could still fight. It was not a full injection, it did not stun me entirely. Roaring in anger again, I charged up once more, spines glowing bright orange, hot enough to melt the strongest metal. A short burst of nuclear breath sent the Metal One dodging, but I clipped him enough to knock him from flight. Keeping my spines charged, I roared and ran at the Metal One with an agility that belied my size. When I was at nearly point blank, I shot a short burst of nuclear fire at the Metal One's arm, with the unused cadmium tranquilizer. And then I quickly turned myself around and threw myself backwards, crashing into the Metal One, spines first. There was a sickening sound of metal being cut as the Metal One and I fell to the ground, spines impaling my opponent through the torso. The heat of my charged spikes began to melt the armour around them, frying circuit and exploding power conduits showered sparks all over me and the Metal One. I roared again as I rolled off the Metal One, leaving gouging wounds in it's torso. At point blank, I released my thermonuclear breath into it's face in a long stream

"Woah..." breathed Yuki as she watched the spectacle, recording every moment on film. She was going to win awards for these pictures, she was sure of it.

"Millenium is much more agile than Heisei or Showa," Shinoda noted, recording the fight on his own notepad, while Io operated a tripod-mounted camera. His daughter nodded, but her eyes were wide. Even after having watched Godzilla for most of her 13 years, the power and majesty of him and his battles still captivated her. Godzilla's famous, or infamous depending on how you looked at it, roar punctuated the sounds of the battle.

"Godzilla seems to be moving slower now. Why?" Yuki asked, lowering her camera for a moment.

"Cadmium. Mechagodzilla is armed with two cadmium injectors in his arms. They are a sort of tranquilizer for Godzilla, but his enormous constitution means that they won't paralyze him for sure. This one seems to have just slowed him down. And Godzilla knows about them, he's a surprisingly intelligent animal. Did you see how he blasted the arm with the unused cadmium syringe? That's why," answered the knowledgeable Shinoda.

"So what's going to happen now?" the reporter said, as Godzilla's stream of nuclear energy into Mechagodzilla's face subsided.

"Depends on whether Mechagodzilla can get up again," Shinoda answered darkly. He couldn't imagine what hell it must be inside that machine, fighting one of the single most powerful daikaiju on the planet.

Mechagodzilla crashed to its back, knocked from the sky by the still powerful blast of nuclear fire. He was still recovering when Godzilla blasted its arm, frying the laser attachment. He looked on, and was unable to get up in time as Godzilla rushed forward to try to impale him. Mechagodzilla decided that now was the time to show off his new weapon. As Godzilla hurtles towards him, he fires off a blast of Thermonuclear energy from his mouth. It interacts with the radiation from Godzilla's spines, detonating it and hurtling the titan forward, away from Mechagodzilla. Mechagodzilla is rocked by the blast but unharmed, and leaps forward, jettisoning his arm attachments. From one arm, a short blade springs out. Mechagodzilla stabs forward, shoving the blade into Godzilla's back and releasing a burst of electricity from it. He vaults over his nemesis, retracting the blade, and shoves his opponent's face in the dirt, leaning his considerable bulk on his foe's head, trying to crush the life from Godzilla.

((i've decided to switch my perspective to third person, it'll be easier to write))

Godzilla roared in anger, his rage now overpowering the cadmium in his veins. Drawing from some inner reserve of strength, he rose up and tossed Kiryu off of him. Then, as the enormous mecha stumbled away, he jumped up and onto it's back. With a second uneartly roar, he dug his jagged fangs into the 'neck' of the enormous fighting machine. Mechagodzilla shrieked warnings in protest, it's legs trying desperately to hold out. They failed, and two daikaiju fell to the ground with an almighty smash. Charging up his breath with his teeth still locked in his mechanical double's neck, he unleashed a point-blank burst of nuclear energy. The explosion momentarily concealed the two combatants from their human observers, but when the smoked cleared they saw Godzilla, now standing above Mechagodzilla, who still lay on the ground. A great portion of it's neck had been blown away by the point-blank force of the blast, and now Godzilla had it's head in his claws, pulling and twisting the head upwards with a set, purposeful look on his face. A low, grumbling growl arose from it's chest as he continued to pull and twist with ungodly strength.

"Oh, he's a smart one," Shinoda said as he observed.

"What?" Io asked, confused as to what her father was implying.

"When Showa met the alien Mechagodzilla in 1974, he defeated it by twisting it's head off. Somehow, Millenium instictively is trying that trick," Shinoda answered, wondering if Kiryu would be able to escape Godzilla's iron grasp.

The noise sensors in Mechagodzilla's cockpit were designed Takezo's voice to convert anything he said into growls and roars. But even distorted beyond recognition, his cry emerges as a horrific, pained scream. He breathes heavily, trying to overcome the immense pain flooding his systems. He was chosen well. He cries out, "White Heron 2, transmit!" The accompanying ship utilizes Mechagodzilla's unique form of energy transfer, shooting out a pulse of energy to the recievers Mechagodzilla's spines. However, there is something in the way: Godzilla. The energy crackles through, electrocuting the King of the Monsters very painfully. The beast writhes, and Mechagodzilla grows stronger. He heaves upwards, throwing Godzilla off, and turns. Four prongs extend out of the area around the end of each Maser cannon, locking into the shape of a large spike. Mechagodzilla fires both spikes. One misses, but one catches Godzilla in the stomach, ripping a bloody gash before continuing on. Mechagodzilla bends, launching his rocket pack at Godzilla. It crashes into his Leviathan foe, and detonates, blasting Godzilla backwards. Mechagodzilla's fingers spin and close, forming a drill. He lunges forward, jamming the drill into Godzilla's gut, plunging it into his foe's stomach, trying to tear his opponent's insides to shreds.

Gryllodon saw something moving out of the corner of his eye. All of his instincts told him it was a bird, a predator, that he should flee, but he ignored the thought. He was big now, bigger than birds, bigger even than the humans. Nothing could hurt hi-

Rodan's talons tore into his chitinous shell, and the impact of the giant creature threw him off-balance, sent him tumbling into a bulding.

So instinct proved correct... Gryllodon found himself menaced by some sort of lizard-bird, large enough to prove an actual threat to him... but not so large as the humans had once been, and he was now their master. He could teach this lizard-bird a lesson in humility as well.

Gryllodon let loose a chirp of defiance, leveling the remains of the building he had been thrown into. Flexing his powerful legs he sent himself skyward, flying towards the lizard-bird with claws extended.

Rodan climbed, preparing to turn and attack the giant insect again. He was in his element, and here no meganulon, no matter how large, could reach him.

At least that was what he thought, right up to the moment that Gryllodon hit him from below, latching on with it's claws and striking Rodan over and over in the belly, attempting to eviscerate him. Though his thick scales protected him from being cut, the impacts were merciless, driving the breath from his body and causing Rodan great pain. Nothing had ever challeneged him in the skies before, and the idea that something could attack him in his own element overrode his ability to react quickly, allowing Gryllodon to gain a firm hold on him.

Surprised and desperate, Rodan rolled wildly, trying to throw the massive cricket off, but the wily insect held on, clambering to Rodan's back and continuing to claw at him. The added weight, though not to heavy for the mighty beast to carry, made flight awkward, and Rodan plummetted from the sky, turning desperately in an attempt to land on his opponent and crush him.

The grappling pair slammed into the ground, with Gryllodon on the bottom. The impact was rough, but the oversized cricket's tough carapace held firm. The building he landed on, not so much.

While his claws were doing some damage to the lizard bird, Gryllodon was uncomfortable fighting in such close quarters. Plus, as long as his wings were pinned under him he couldn't sing. He needed to get Rodan off of him. He drew up his legs and delivered a mighty kick to the lizard-bird's chest. If that didn't get the creature off of him, nothing would.

The building and the giant cricket helped cushion Rodan's fall, but he was still stunned by slamming into the ground. Gryllodon's kick sent him flying; legs that could launch the massive insect miles at a leap made easy work of launching Rodan through a city-block worth of buildings, to land atop of yet another building, crushing it.

Extricating himself from the rubble, Rodan knew he needed to buy time. He needed to find a way to defeat this foe, but he couldn't simply take to the air, or he might get caught and pulled down again. But the mighty wings of Rodan were useful for things other then flight.

Pulling clear of the ruined building, Rodan spread his wings wide, then brought them together with the force of a hurricane, sending a powerful gust of wind tearing through the air, throwing the dust and debris that had been a block of office buildings back into Gryllodon's face at almost 100 miles per hour.

Gryllodon skidded along the ground for a block, tossed by Rodan's strong winds. It was only with difficulty that he struggled to his feet. Once upright he began scraping his wings together again, attempting to combat Rodan's gale with his own sonic shockwaves.

Rodan's mighty wings were powerful, but he was not prepared for the sonci blast generated by the giant cricket. The power of Gryllodon's chirp interrupted the beating of Rodan's wings, and drove him backwards. It's force had been somewhat blunted by the gale-force winds that the giant reptile had been generating, and only drove him back about the length of a football field.

This foe was wiley and full of tricks, but Rodan was cunning as well. Flying high had only resulted in giving the cricket an easy target, and there was no way that Rodan could trade blows in hand-to-hand combat nor engage in a standoff fight with the mighty and destructive song of Gryllodon. But he could play to the strengths of his species.

With a quick flapping of his mighty wings, Rodan took to the air. Instead of rising high in a steady climb, he opted to stay almost at rooftop levle as he to his left, building speed and distance from his antagonist. The windows of nearly every building he flew over were blown out by the pressure wave generated by his acceleration and the power of his wings. Arcing back in towards his foe, he screamed his challenge and speed directly at the Gryllodon, intending to gash him in passing with his jaws.
