When I see those sorts of things in peoples sigs, I think, "Wonder where that is". not, "Oh, they want me to click this link that is SOOO obvious (that just happens to look like a picture) and help them win"

Banners are links. That's how they work. The ones in your sig are, as well.

If I hadn't read that, or if I cared less since it really can't be enforced unless it reaches the level where it would qualify as advertisement or spam, I might have done better on Winter ITP.

Well, instead of perpetually pestering Threeshades, how about you join some other kind of mini-plot.

Like, for example, the Roka and Q mini-adventure. Or Oliver's thingy with the Detta robot things.

Or make something else up. Be creative. Make up a mini-adventure somebody else would want to join.

I would accept that it can occasionally be difficult to tell the difference between a banner and a sigatar. But if there's a slogan, I would figure it was a banner.

Memnarch, your question seems to assume that people don't have access to a mouse. I always, though perhaps you do not, put my mouse over any banner I see and see if there's a link. It's just common sense. If there is no link, I ignore it. If there is one, I'll probably click it.
Also, you gave a bad example. Most banners make it very clear that they have links. Again, it's just common sense.
