It seems 'liking Stanley' isn't Jack's reason for being so loyal :P

I'm very sad that I didn't see the dragon-shaped mass of bats in every frame last time. I failed.

We all failed Zeku, no one even mentioned it despite the fact that it made no sense what so ever...
Anyway I just realized something, someone got their directions flipped, already knew that. But who exactly got the directions turned around? Stanley, or translovito?

Re: Erfworld 127 The Battle for Gobwin Knob, Page 115
I feel particularly stupid because I remember being sorry for the poor dwagon that ought to be in the middle of that dwagon looking cloud of bats. I was so distracted by the illusion I didn't think of a veil.
And to think I could be insulting Jillian for being dense...
By the way, are Transylvitians paranoid? Stanley almost finished TV's highest ranking warlord, and could have finished the whole bunch if that had worked. And then, Jillian fails to see an obvious illusion until Vinny finds about it, and then she fails to grab Stanley just in the nick of time.Last edited by teratorn; 2008-10-15 at 10:00 PM.

Re: Erfworld 127 The Battle for Gobwin Knob, Page 115
M'kay, it's a long way back, but I don't see anyone else has made the observation:
There's a simpler explanation. Maggie had significant interaction with other units between the time the link was broken, Parson in particular, and the time she first addressed Stanley as "Tool."
Parson: So, Maggie I need help now that the Tool has fled.
Maggie: Tool, Lord?
Parson: Stanley, S'his new title, "Tool of the Titans"
Maggie: I... see.
Indeed, even without the hypothetical, On two of those occasions, she conducts Thinkagram in which Parson refers to "Stanley the Tool of Gobwin Knob" and "I work for a Tool....Tool of the Titans,!"
She's a schmot gurl, she knows to give the proper response when Stanley calls her. Jack has had no such hint.

I cant stop laughing as i imagine the sounds of dozens of jaws hitting the floor when all the "dragons should be tougher" people realize they were both simultaniously right, and biggo fkhldfnf's for not waiting until the action was fully resolved.
I thought the dragon shoulda lasted longer too, but i didnt feel the need to whine about it. Although i clearly feel the need to gloat right now. Been awhile since i had a good round of pride.

Re: Erfworld 127 The Battle for Gobwin Knob, Page 115
Ok, my two cp on this latest fun time is that back in 110 when parson tried to talk to him, it did some good, it started to clear up his head, but just not all that well, and once he saw jillian, that is when he became fully clear of what and who he was, before then he was just a mess, as stated by himself, the medium is the mess, and how did he make an illusion seem solid, cause he hid the real dragon inside the illusion until he no one like jillian was on the dragon and then let the illusion fall down and he slipped away into the veil of bats that finally made it out of the hex. :)

Heh, totally caught off-guard. I remember noticing that cloud of bats not engaging and dismissing it as the artist getting lazy and just using bats to spice up th visuals.
Never again will I doubt.

Re: Erfworld 127 The Battle for Gobwin Knob, Page 115
Really? You think Stanley, the tool, is going to put together a thought that complex when it pertains to people? It took him more than a turn to figure out Jack's name, and that took 1) prompting, and 2) no extrapolation. I'm not saying he's dumb, but his intelligence is focused in entirely different places than interpersonal soap operas.
I'd expect him to need some other prompt, probably a sharp one, before he catches on.
ETA: The art in this installment is on the same level of "OMGWTFBBQ" awesomeness as the last few. Wow. Jamie, you're the man!
Ooo, interesting thought. Perhaps Vinnie&co will go chasing Stanley to the East, when he's really continuing to head West to FAQ? That would be One Incredible Piece of Foolamancy(tm)!Last edited by Occasional Sage; 2008-10-16 at 01:53 AM.

Re: Erfworld 127 The Battle for Gobwin Knob, Page 115
I once saw a magician at a college fair. He was manipulating little rubber balls. He handed me one. I swear, i felt it as i closed my hand around it. And then he dropped it on the table. I opened my hand, it was empty.
This is like that.
This is not like any other comic, gamer or otherwise, where the plot twists tend to be unpredictable because they introduce new elements. It's not like a tv show where the story so often hangs on the main characters missing the painfully obvious, and/or coming up with a last minute breakthrough. This is not like an absorbing fantasy novel where you can sense the lines of narrative gradully converging, albeit i do enjoy those.
No, this is real, world class foolamancy, the kind that hides in plain sight and dares you to stick your hand in.
So here's a big round of applause, and i hope it's a long booking.

Re: Erfworld 127 The Battle for Gobwin Knob, Page 115
Ok, I think a little more attention to 126/114 can contribute to resolving the question of where Stanley is headed. Assuming that the dwagon-shaped cloud of bats is the veiled dwagon with Stanley and Jack aboard, we can see where it's going.
Panels 1 and 2, Jillian and Stanley are heading directly for each other. Behind Jillian (in the direction Stanley is trying to go) is the way to Faq.
Panels 4 and 6, as the two meet, Jillian slips underneath the dwagon, slicing open its belly and ending up slightly behind it as it begins to fall, dead. The bat-veil is directly above.
Panel 8, Jillian hasn't moved as she watched Stanley and Jack fly upward (not really them, but go with it). Dwagon is still falling, but now the bat swarm is slightly in front of it, heading in the direction Jillian came from, toward Faq.
Panel 9, Jillian is moving now. You can see where the Dwagon hit the trees below, the bats have moved even more in the direction of Faq, though the swarm appears to be turning a bit.
So by the end of the page, Stanley, in the form of a cloud of bats, is moving in the direction of Faq, with absolutely no one standing in his way, because Jillian was the last line of defense to stop him. The rest of the fight is going on back in the direction he came from. The cloud is turning, but either Stanley continues toward Faq unopposed, or he turns around, heads back the way he came, having to fly through the battle that is still raging, chancing having the veil seen through by everyone in that direction as he goes. I know which one I think Stanley would choose.
And even if he did end up heading back in the other direction, at the end of his turn, he's gonna have to stop and have Jack veil him. TV's forces aren't going to camp out in the pass forever, and Stanley doesn't have to be anywhere any time soon. So he could wait for them to leave and then go and take Faq. The only way to prevent that would be for Jillian to go straight there on her turn and claim the kingdom for herself. Really she's out of options I think, even if she doesn't want to be queen.

Re: Erfworld 127 The Battle for Gobwin Knob, Page 115
With Stanley and Jack going back to Gobwin Knob, Parson would have another 3 great units to use at least.
- Stanley, which adds a huge bonus to Parson's troops with the artifact and Overlord bonus. Also a great fighting character with AoE attacks.
- A massive armored Dwagon.
- A master foolamancer, which would be the greatest addition to Parson's forces imo.
I predict Parson thinkagramming Stanley begging him not to end turn and promising him the Pliers this turn. Jack will lead Stanley back to Gobwin Knob, which Stanley is happy about once he has the Pliers in his hands...
What Wanda will do on Phase 2 of Parson's plan? No clue seriously. Possibly airstrikes or defending the wall breaches... Or attacking Ansom directly with her airforce....

Re: Erfworld 127 The Battle for Gobwin Knob, Page 115
Observations:
1)
Assumptions:
- Stanley can't take the treasury with him if Gobwin Knob falls.
- Faq was destroyed.
It seems to me Stanley is trying to reach Faq before his treasury goes *poof*, with the intention of rebuilding Faq and popping some new units there.
2)
Vinnie has always been very perceptive. He's the one who usually saw through Parson's plots. Granted, too late to do anything about them, but he did know what was going down before anyone else from the royal coalition.
Also, his bats were the units that scouted the donut of doom.
Could it be that Vinnie (and his bats) have some innate perception bonus, giving him a slight advantage for seeing through foolamancy?
3)
How much do we know about the opposing alliance, besides what units they have?
Earlier someone linked to 96/86, and it had a list of allies.
- Jetstone
- Unaroyal
- Sofa King
- Foxmud
- Hobbittm
- Transylvito
- Charlescomm
Of those, we've only met the rulers of Transylvito and Charlescomm so far.
We haven't actually seen Charles, but Parson has spoen with him more than once.
Ansom is not the ruler of Jetstone, so we haven't seen their ruler yet. (Although he is likely to be an heir.)
That leaves five rulers (and four whole factions within the alliance) that we haven't been introduced to yet. That's plenty of material for storyline continuation even after we see what happens with GK and Faq.Last edited by Bilgore; 2008-10-16 at 05:12 AM.

Re: Erfworld 127 The Battle for Gobwin Knob, Page 115
Jillian and the gwiffon never hit Big Red... the cloud of bats that we now know is Stanley etc appeared after the blast of fire and before those two events happened. The cloud of bats can be seen over to the side, not overlaying the dwagon and rider illusions.
Maybe foolamancy veils cant be seen by anyone in a magical 'the veil breaks way'. This last page seems to imply its more about spotting something odd and figuring out that thats the thing that is veiled, which only a warlord would have the presence of mind to do.
Regarding Stanley not attacking Jillian, maybe attacking would have broken the bat veil. The 'oof' and 'fly up' could have been real speech between Jack and Stanley if Jack had to stop Stanley from attacking Jillian while she was distracted.Last edited by MattR; 2008-10-16 at 07:13 AM.

Re: Erfworld 127 The Battle for Gobwin Knob, Page 115
If Stanley is still heading for FAQ.....
Some points:
1) Stanley ordered the breakthrough before the Jack/Jillian interaction, so he wasnt going to rely on the foolamancer being able to veil a city.
2) Ordering a breakthrough implies that he didnt think the forces he had were sufficient to take down the TV forces or he'd have just wiped them out.
Taking into account both these points seems to rule out the 'rebuild a city' plan since it would be difficult if not impossible for him to defend a city on his own... walls dont seem to help a side defend airspace AND he has never sent out a force to rebuild the cities before now. He is confident that he can survive whatever TV throws at him once he reaches his destination.... which makes me think that wherever he's going will have units he can use to defend himself. Since he seems willing to sacrifice dwagons to do it, that implies those units might be more dwagons.
So, maybe he's not just chickened out and ran off like a coward... maybe he went for more dwagons and took the three knights along to promote to warlord status to lead other stacks? The rule of plot might have stopped him from elevating them sooner.GENERATION 19: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig and add 1 to the generation. This is a social experiment.

6th panel shows a big central mountain AHEAD of Stanley and Jack before they enter the pass.
http://www.giantitp.com/comics/erf0127.html
Last two panels show a big central mountain at the end of the pass BEHIND Stanley and Jack when they leave the hex.
Seems like theyre heading back the way they came to me, GK! Home sweet home.
I think if Parson gives a rundown of the casualties they inflicted against the Coalition Stanley might have more confidence in his Chief Warlord. Imagine Parson's reaction though when he finds out Stanley lost all the dwagons except his mountLast edited by MattR; 2008-10-16 at 07:01 AM.

Points of interest.
1. Readers were happy or disappointed with the last scene, but there was not even speculation that it was faked. There is the genius. The best distraction is one that is not even questioned.Last edited by Moechi_Vill; 2008-10-16 at 08:24 AM.
