GLoG VIII: Thread of Exalted Deeds

[Morty]

Psychologist? I must have missed something. Who are you talking about? Also, killing people isn't a Good thing to do. Maybe we should make them stop causing trouble in some other way. I'm sick of killing.

[Lex-Kat]

Melody has fallen asleep in Turtle's arms.

Lex floats in. What's going on. We need a new cake or something? Hey, Turtle. I was just going to visit Annalee's cottage. Wanna come?

She looks at Wenomir. You can come, also. If you want.

"A psychologist came in to see Melody. After he left, she started acting strangely. First she started trying to seduce George, then she set herself on fire, and now she thinks she's a child. And the cameras don't have any record of the session. Just one minute, Lex."

Turtle teleports Melody to bed in her own room. Without the Spork of Power, she can't make new rooms, and Judy's room is still pretty charred. She puts one drone in charge of child-proofing the room, and the other one to watch Melody at all times and keep her safe. The she ports back to the greatroom.

"But why do you need to go to Annalee's house? We can send drones to pack up her belongings, if you think it will be too sad."

[Lex-Kat]

Wow. We really should put a lock on the armory. Someone could have been hurt. Um, more. Hurt more. Are you okay, Wenomir? Lex looks at Wenomir's wound.

[Morty]

I'd be glad to come. But who is Analee? I think I've heard that name before, but I don't know who is she. And I'm okay, thanks. It's just a scratch, it should close in fifteen minutes or so.

[happyturtle]

"She was one of our founding members. But she disappeared, and George couldn't find her when he scryed for her. So she must have died. It's terrible not knowing though."

[Morty]

I see. But even if she can't be found by scrying, she might still be alive. I'm no good at magic, but I know that there are many ways of blocking such spells. Demonhunters more powerful than me can do this trick, for example. Demons, too.

"But Annalee isn't powerful enough to block something like that," Turtle says. "And besides, why would she try to hide from us?"

[Morty]

She maybe wouldn't. But someone else might not want her to be found.

[Lex-Kat]

She did have that evil guy after her. You know, the one that killed her twin sister?

"Annalee has a sister?"

[Kaelaroth]

Czernov awakens, yawning.

[Lex-Kat]

Yeah. Remember when we last went to her cottage. She told us about how this evil guy came and killed her family. But she and her sister have some kind of power that held him off, or something.

[happyturtle]

"Er, the last time I went to her cottage was when me and Fan told her we were getting married. Then we all came home together."

((laser guided amnesia FTW!))

[Kaelaroth]

What's that? Czernov says, yawning. He then blinks. What the...? He looks down at himself, then panickedly looks around. Where am I?!

[Morty]

Wenomir listens, having not witnessed the events they're talking about.
Well, if we want to find her, her cottage would be as good place as any to start looking.

"You've been hurt. You're in the infirmary," George says.

"Okay. Let's go then," says Turtle, still confused about what Lex is talking about.

[Lex-Kat]

I agree with Wenomir. Whether you remember or not, doesn't matter, in the long run. We should check the cottage, see if there are any clues. Or maybe her body. Then we can at least bury her.

She reaches out her hands to both Turtle and Wenomir. Let's go.

[Kaelaroth]

Where the hell are we, sir? Did the teleporter not work properly? What happened? Why aren't I in my body? George may notice Czer's accent has dulled into a general European lilt, and he's using contractions now.

[Morty]

Alright, just let me check I've got everything... sword... armor doesn't need repairing... dagger's in the boot... hey, this gun might actually prove useful... I'm ready.

"Czernov, it's me. George. Don't you remember?"

[Kaelaroth]

Sir, I thought you said we weren't meant to be on a first name basis... And I'm called Peter. Not that you'd know that, what with us not being on a first name basis. And the whole new body? What happened?

[Lex-Kat]

As soon as Wenomir and Turtle are ready, Lex will Teleprot all three to Annalee's Cottage.

George held onto Czer's hand, and didn't speak. Whatever sick games the sadist was playing with Czer's mind, he was better off now than when he'd been a vegetable. It was worth whatever deal he'd made with the sadist... even if he couldn't actually remember what deal he'd made.

"I don't know what's happened. I'll work with you, and we'll find out," George said heavily.

[Kaelaroth]

Great, well, sir, if you don't mind me saying, you've kinda... expanded since I last saw you. What Jim from West Squadron Four would call added some food-related padding. He looks about, in wonderment. Oh, and I'm ripped.

[happyturtle]

((George is wearing burnt clothing, has since marks on his hair and beard, and hasn't showered in a few days. But sure... notice his extra 30 pounds first... ))

George smiles feebly. "That you are, lad. You look gorgeous. But why don't you tell me the last thing you remember? You've been unconscious for a while."

[Kaelaroth]

(("Peter"'s used to seeing guys looking like hell. What with his memories being of...))

... Bombs, sir. The ones we sent across enemy lines, remember, coming back at us. I'd imagine they caught them with their... buffeter things, the ones they made from their undies, and hurled the bombs right back at us. I remember you yelling at us, and, well, then, lots of shrapnel. Last thing I remember's a flash of light.

"That's okay, lad, you'll have time to remember the rest. We're out of the war zone now. If you're feeling alright, I can show you to your room, get you something to eat."

[Kaelaroth]

Sure, cappie, whatever. We're never out the war zone. He grins, curling up. I'm really tired, though, sir. I think I'll just get some rest. He falls asleep.

George leaves several security drones guarding Czernov and goes to shower and change. Then he goes about the process of moving Czer's things back into his own room.

When that's done, he returns to his bedside vigil in the infirmary.
