Re: Cristo's Consistently Confusing and Constantly Casual Random Banter #105
*eyeroll*
Drider, think about the date.
What is the date?
What major holiday happens in just over seven weeks?
Are you under eighteen? Yes.
Are you a teenager? Yes.
In accordance with the latter two it means you can say outright what you want for this holiday. Use and abuse this treat as when you leave for (your) college you won't get wasteful pressies.
And the show does get better. I don't really like the Jasmine/Connor arcs though, but that's just me. The last few episodes of the last series were especially epic.
The whole last series was because of another vampire with a soul. But you will hate how they ended the series.

Truly Amazon is a blessing to the Geek and Collector.
Now turn to page 1701 and raise you voices to sing "O, Ye Most Merciful Internets" to the beloved shop that is our God.
I've also graciously pointed out to parents that Amazon sells books and DVDs that I like rather cheaply and I do enjoy second - hand books more than new ones on occasion (means more stuff for me). Yes, I know, but Little Sister also likes these *points out certain items* and Brothers One and Two both share a passion for *points out more pages* this and this.
Now, what was I getting in town for you? Oh yes, *reels off list of inconsequetial items*
*flies out the door leaving parents to ponder*
*sniggers as she imagines them acting out the Pinky and the Brain intro*

So...while you're out shopping Ma & Pa Curlykin are trying to take over the world? ("Narf!")
I had wondered about that new section at Amazon:

Re: Cristo's Consistently Confusing and Constantly Casual Random Banter #105
That is, honestly, a reasonable price for a season's worth of episodes on DVD. One season of Doctor Who, for instance, can cost $120 here, with just one serial of the old series (~4 half-hour episodes) costing $40. I don't know how they justify it, even with importing. And that is why I use μtorrent. >_>
I have a dislike of Amazon, though, 'cause it screws over small presses and won't actually pay authors for the sales of the book. Also a couple of experiences of not actually delivering the book in question.

Re: Cristo's Consistently Confusing and Constantly Casual Random Banter #105
I should certainly hope so! I've already outlined to both parents and Little Sister the importance of being prepared for both the inevitable zombie apocalypse as well as velociraptor attack.
They know where my most basic plans for world domination are - with all the rest of my stuff they hoarded from primary - and should know by now how to take over the world. If not tried to.
I also endorse Curlykin as a nickname and general term for Curly's family and/or friends.

Man, if I had the materials and a little more time, I'd totally go as Sam Vimes for Halloween. And potentially shout "That is not my Cow!" at random passerby.

Re: Cristo's Consistently Confusing and Constantly Casual Random Banter #105
You has a point. The problem? I live an hour and a half from anywhere remotely likely to carry the kinds of things I'm interested in. On Sunday I ordered:
Paper Towns by John Green
"Snacktime", the BNL kids' album
which should be coming today.
Also I still haven't gotten two of my birthday presents; my aunt is bringing me Inkdeath, and my brother promised to buy me The Book Thief but he hasn't done it yet.
I wouldn't mind except they're BOOKS.

AAeeeuuuyyrrrnnnngh.... Stupid UCAS! STUPID ARGH ARGH ARGH. I don't even understand what it's saying! Why hasn't it gone through when my coordinator sent it to the UCAS sent on Tuesday? Why does it not tell me what the hell is going on? Why is it forcing me to miss out on the chance to do research at CERN or Harvard? Whhyyyyy.... Beh I think the angst is done now.
In happier news my physics school trip to Geneva should actually be going ahead, even though it was declared cancelled at the beginning of term. Huzzah!
Is that my cow? It goes BWEEEEEEEEN. It's a Large Hadron Collider. That's not my cow!

I gather you didn't like it? I haven't read it yet. I only know that when I was fourteen I read Inkspell and loved it. LOVED it. I haven't read it since then so I don't know how my taste was. But I want to finish the series even if most people don't like it.

Seconded. Oh, and while you meet Science of the Discworld here's his cousins Science of the Discworld II: The Globe and III: Darwin's Watch. They're rather a lovely bunch when you get to know them.
@Bath: I hope it's gotten through soon, wouldn't want you to miss CERN or Harvard - this doesn mean you're applying to Southampton as first choice then right? And Geneva: cool. But Swiss. Very slow there. Good chocolate or so I've heard.

Re: Cristo's Consistently Confusing and Constantly Casual Random Banter #105
No links, but my friend and mentor doesn't receive anything from the sale of her books over Amazon, and she says that neither does her publisher, even (a small press).
Not exactly not paying, per se, but what they'll do is buy up huge stocks at discount and then just let the books sit in a warehouse forever and then can collect 100% of the money from sales, so the author's pay is far below what it would be when sold in a bookstore.
And, then, of course, it's exploiting the fact that you really can't make it as an author anymore without Amazon sales.Remember when I had an avatar?

Re: Cristo's Consistently Confusing and Constantly Casual Random Banter #105
Chap magazine is intriguing. Shame there isn't an equivalent for the other half.
I've got a question to ask:
has time gone back one hour without my noticing because I've just seen Top Gear and now the very same one (or so it appears) is on right after it. Now, the TV thingy says it's Best of TG, but I doubt they'd make such a collossal scheduling error as to two virtually identical episodes back to back - or at least invovling the same challenge.
And yes, I've seen them both before but there's nothing else on. Absolutely nothing. That's one reason why I hate holidays.

Ah, All Hallow's Eve. Don't celebrate it. I do, however, celebrate a separate costume and candy holiday, five months from now. I plan on going as a Headcrab Zombie then, but I'm not sure how to work out the head, any suggestions?
