Re: Warglory, trial by fire
Is there a back room or something I could find a better hiding spot? Given that I've been in here for a turn or two now, looking for the best spot to hide, is there a little nook or cranny that would be easily missed? Something along those lines?

Re: Warglory, trial by fire
In a rear bedroom you find an armoire (dresser) you can hide in.

Eyes finds an armoire (of invincibility perhaps?) in one of the bedrooms. He opens it and slips inside, shutting the door until only a small crack remained that he could peer out of.A mind without purpose will walk in dark places. - Gideon Ravenor

Spoiler
((Right, i think i get the drift. You're all waiting for bayonet point.))
Gem groans where Skull left him. He's still bleeding. The rifle's nowhere to be seen... still in the car? His improvised grenade and matches are still on him.
The Rada advance down the street in steps. One group checks an apartment while the second covers the street, then reverse, then advance to the next apartment. The tank grumbles like a surly monster. Beyond this you don't know, you must hide to keep out of sight... there is a great squeeling of metal on pavement as the tank crawls forward.
Those near windows can take awareness checks (D20). If you peek you still need the check but will see where the Rada are up to, a minute or so has passed.
*note: I'll allow a one minute action like bandaging for this past interval.Last edited by Shirocco; 2008-10-28 at 06:24 PM.

Yeah, Box-Top really wants to see how detailed the house checks are; it could ruin his plan if they see him.

Re: Warglory, trial by fire
As posted earlier...
It's a street some 200m long, 20 yards wide. There's apartments of 2-3 stories all the way along joined so they resemble one building, seperated by walls inside them. You started in the middle. A wrecked car is 20 yards north of that on the road, an abandoned wagon 30 yards south. About 50 yards south of start is a big crater, apartment on west side of that is rubble, apartment on east side of that is bullet-ridden. Nobody went down and looked there so you don't know any more about it. Hint, hint.
All apartments have 10m of front yard facing the street. There is picket fence before the road with most of these, right up the end there's one that has stone wall instead about 1m high. Yards are mostly dirt & dead grass, a handful of scraggly trees and feeble bushes are on this street.Last edited by Shirocco; 2008-10-28 at 08:26 PM.

Hands
Hands remains with Fang, awaiting the Rada to enter the building.
SpoilerWe (I take it) are on the stairwell, bayonet's attached, waiting for the Rada to enter, then we shoot/stab them. I think it's safe to say we're almost within pointblank range. And I won't be making an awareness check, I don't want to take a peek.I drew this line myself

Re: Warglory, trial by fire
Skull thinks for a bit, then comes up with a plan; His squad can pick them off if there is a divesion. Blowing up a tank=Diversion.
So setting off, he picks his way through the street, staying as low as possible and moving only when the Rada disappear inside to check a building. Not forgetting Yldenfrei and the wonderful avatar she made.

Re: Warglory, trial by fire
A moment after Skull creeps out the door a tank sponson HMG opens fire. Turns out the gunner was watching the building; not a surprise, considering the fire you put the scouts under earlier. It can't however see through picket fences - to the tank he is concealed. Heavy MG rounds wash past, obliterating fence posts, chewing up earth and cracking into the building. Skull is under fire; he may be in concealment now but not for long. The HMG will blow every fencepost between him and it apart within seconds.
At the same time it's forward hull MG opens fire on the car, sending clouds of big man-chewing rounds smashing through it's battered frame. The vehicle shudders and shakes, loose bits falling off, big holes blowing open. The tank's remaining sponson remains silent.
One group of Rada are always outside. Which group is the only thing that changes - it is now impossible to cross the street unseen.
*If you're not doing anything, say so as Maniac has done and mention character name. I will give Frigs a few hours to decide what he's doing with Skull.
Time
Spoiler
Something i had hoped for here was to have you guys run through this backstory in time to have some of you join the main thread for next mission, but the post rate's been pretty slow. If you can make it - great! If you can't, you'll have to show up as replacements during an active mission.

At the sound of the tank opening fire Twitch uneasily twitches. But he still decides to do nothing, restlessly waiting but sticking to the plan.

Re: Warglory, trial by fire
Skull Curses. There was no way this was going to work. So he picked up the nearest piece of garbage, and threw it through an unbroken window, hoping to attract the Rada's Attention away from him. He then runs, as silently as possible towards the next building on the west side.

((I get the drift. Dragging, you keep in cover.))
Skull makes it to a crouch, shots flying very close, but gets not two steps from there before great big bullets tear into his leg, shatter his head, blast through his back and leave massive exit wounds in his torso. The impact of high speed air behind the bullets is what turns his organs to jelly; he's dead before he hits the ground.
The tank maintains fire for a few more seconds, then ceases. You hear Rada shouting something. The left group exit the house they just checked, all look at the West apartment that Skull just emerged from. You recognise a shouted word "Surrender!" in the local tongue from the Rada.
If those in East apartment open fire now, the dice are D8 on both east and west troop groups. I'm not giving many hints here, but i will say it's worth peeking before you shoot.Last edited by Shirocco; 2008-10-29 at 06:31 PM.

Re: Warglory, trial by fire
Situation
Spoiler
Right. I see three ways you can take things from here:
Stick it out.
Send a runner to inform Battalion while the rest make a last ditch effort.
Call it a failed mission and retreat.
The apartment has a back door, your materials are in here with you, nobody's looked so you aren't sure on distance but the enemy's pretty close and it is possible to get up on the roof. Oh, and i'm still waiting on Awareness rolls from anyone near a window. Y'don't have long so make the call lads or the enemy will make it for you.

The fire ceasing was even more ominious and Twitch couldn't resist anymore. He quickly shuffled over towards the window and peeked out to check on the enemy.

Re: Warglory, trial by fire
Fangs peaks out of the window to see what the situation is.
"We should send someone to warn the battalion. We lost the element of surprise and could only take a few of them down. With a half dozen soldiers and the tank fully aware, we can only try to take down as many as we can and maybe make a mad dash for the tank with the K rounds. But it will be a suicide mission for sure." Fangs whispers. "Twitch, go warn the battalion."
Other than that, Fangs waits.Last edited by Ridai; 2008-10-30 at 03:24 AM.

Re: Warglory, trial by fire
Fangs sees the tank is now 30 yards out and parked. It's pretty damn close. The Rada troops are even closer they're in the next apartment's yard, D4 shots at this range... but you notice something in time to save your life. The tank has a sponson pointed right at you! You pull back like a whipcrack and heavy bullets thunder into the wall & window where you'd been.
((Nice save. Reflex, you got 20. Tank didn't.))
The dog, naturally, has been getting anxious with all the gunfire and this is the last straw. It bolts out the back door.

Re: Warglory, trial by fire
"Damn it, now we can completely forget it." Fangs stays low and makes his way to the back door, looking around outside for enemy troops, shooting them if he sees them. If there aren't any, he makes a run to warn the battalion.

Hands
Hands closes his eyes and prays. Just before Fangs leaves he whispers: "I'll cover you, tell my family I love them." Hands then returns to his visual over the door, trying to keep out of sight of the outside, bayonet still attached. Twitch fires one shot through the window to slow the enemy down then follows Fang for it, blind firing over his shoulder to try to spook the enemy.

Hint
Spoiler
((Tut tut. You have an opportunity here if Painintheear opens fire with Box-top, or even better throws his bully beef tin. You might all die but you won't die alone if you all open fire. The shots will be D3, two each. D20 for Box to throw his bomb.))

Still waiting for them to move on so I can try to get a sneak attack on the tank. If I hear more shots or explosions though, I'll start trying to sneak to a window to see what's going on.

Re: Warglory, trial by fire
Twitch and hands feel their bowels attempt to empty themselves as a hand grenade is put through the window, mere feet from them.
Reflex save. On a pass you can: Throw yourself flat (marginally higher odds of survival), throw yourself out the window (The grenade won't kill you...) or if you're really game, try to grab it and throw it back (unlikely to work, failure is fatal.)
