Re: Zyanya Game, Session 1
As you make your way, you can see farmers bringing in the last of their crops for the year. As you get further from the city, where there are less travelers, a few will wave to you as you ride by.
Shortly before sunset, you will be able to make out the village. It sits at the base of the foothills.
Those of you with good eyes will actually be able to see the monastery from the village, however, the path up the mountain to the monastery is rather winding, and straying from the path can be treacherous.

Re: Zyanya Game, Session 1
Baldor, who has been unusually quiet during the ride, instead taking the opportunity to sleep as much as is possible on horseback, shades his eyes with his hand. He looks towards the monastery.

Re: Zyanya Game, Session 1
On foot would take an additional six hours, putting your arrival well after dark should you leave the village at dawn. The path is wide enough for horses to traverse, it just isn't a good idea to go wandering.

Re: Zyanya Game, Session 1
I think we can trust our horses a bit further. They've seen worse than this. You could ride with me if you feel unsafe with Andre. he says teasingly.
Anyway. I think we should heed the advice and stay in this village for the night. There is supposed to be an inn here.

Re: Zyanya Game, Session 1
The food at the tavern has grown a bit cold due to the late hour, but there is still roast pork, potatoes, and a sweet squash available.
There are several ales available - Miner's Mulekick, Bellowforge Bock, Bitter Black, Dragonbite Bitter, Ginglebarney Walnut Stout, Silverforge Dark, and Zombie Killer.
The only wines they have available are Whimsy Wine and Satyr's Rose.
Additionally, they have Slivovitz, Tiefling Tea, Whiskey, Rum Cider, Rotgut, Utter Moron, and Dwartharian Brandy
There are only two rooms available for the night, but both have two beds and are fairly comfortable. As soon as you express an interest, the innkeeper will light the brazier in the rooms to ensure they are comfortably warm when you are ready to sleep.
From the conversations you can hear in the tavern room, it seems you are not the first group of armed soldiers to come through in the last few days. However, it seems that the last groups to come through were considerably...grander...than your group.Last edited by KeresM; 2008-12-18 at 08:41 PM.

Sam
Ah, a tavern. It will be good to have a bed tonight.
Sam begins to move amongst the crowd, taking in the conversation, talking to people, assessing what sort of music they might like, obviously in his element.
Gather Information 1d20+5=23
After determining the type of music these people might enjoy, he will approach the barkeep about performing. Assuming it's okay, Sam sings the songs he feels would best please the crowd.
Perform 1d20+7=11
Finding his voice to be a bit off, perhaps from the travel, Sam will retire to the room following a somewhat abbreviated performance.

Jason
Jason enjoys his food and an ale with it. When the people mention 'grander' groups of soldiers having come before them.
"Huh, I wonder what that is about. They don't want us to think we are the ones they scraped from the bottom of the barrel..." he remarks. He seems to be only half-joking though.

Re: Zyanya Game, Session 1
((thorgrim29, I was talking to Baldor. He's riding on your horse, remember?))
Ib orders a pint of bitter black, finishes it and excuses himself.
"Goodnight to you." he says adressing any remaining party members "I am going to sleep. I should like an early start tomorrow."

Re: Zyanya Game, Session 1
Sometime during the night, the snow will start to fall. By the time dawn comes around there is nearly a foot of snow on the ground.
The morning gruel has been flavored with honey and dried strawberries, and there is hot coffee.
The snow is still falling outside, and the temperature has dropped further. The icy wind drives stinging snow against all who venture out of doors.

Re: Zyanya Game, Session 1
Jason
Havin treated himself to just a single glass of Satyr's Rose for the evening, Jason is thankfully hangover free the next morning. He eyes the snowy landscape stretching out in front of them and up the mountain they are supposed to travell.
"Well gentlemen, it would appear the way up the mountain just got a little more troublesome then we might care for. Has any of you ever travelled there before? I wonder just how much purchase our horses are going to find on the way up."
"Either way, the sooner we go, the sooner we get there. Come on, let's move out."
And Jason goes ahead to do just that.

Re: Zyanya Game, Session 1
Ice makes the pathway treacherous (ride checks will be required DC 10 to take it slow and carefully, DC 20 to travel at normal speed). The innkeeper will mention that you are welcome to wait until the storm clears if you'd prefer. Otherwise, he'll remind you to carry lanterns and kindling.
In spite of the weather, the pathway up the mountain is still clear enough to follow. There should be a full moon tonight, unless the clouds remain extremely heavy, there will be some visibility.

Sam
Sam wakes up late and slowly makes his way down to where the others are.
As inclined as I am to stay indoors and out of the cold, I think it would be for the best to head up through the snow. We were sent on a mission.

Jason
"Agreed. We can't refrain from going to our destination, just because it is inconvenient after all."
"Right then. We might have to take it slow, so we will probaly spend most of the day riding. Better get started now. The sooner we will reach our goal."
Jason starts to lead his horse outside. He also gets the winter blanket he brought out of his pack and readies it, so he can wrap himself up in it once up in the saddle.
"You know, walking would have the advantage of helping to keep oneself warm. Oh well..."

I see you are all up. Good. I'm sorry. I overslept. We'd best get going if we shall hope to reach the monastery by nightfall.
He gets on his horse and starts out of the village.

Re: Zyanya Game, Session 1
Night falls before you reach your destination, but you manage to get to the monastery safely. You are almost immediately ushered into a warm room and have cups of hot spiced wine pressed into your hands.
From your location, you can see there are others at the monastery. A small group of people are arguing with a man in clerical robes, and another group seems to be preparing to leave in spite of the weather. These groups are heavily armed and armored in items far better than the average soldier could afford, certainly grander than what you have.
The servant informs you that someone will be with you shortly.

Re: Zyanya Game, Session 1
Jason
Jason is very gratefull for the warm drink.
"Ah yes, thank you very much, that is just what we need right now."
While nursing his cup, Jason observes the other groups, notes their equipment and wonders aloud "What are these guys up to? It would seem there is a large operation in progress. Maybe we will have part in it? In that case we better remember that the success of such an undertaking depends on each and every part working together in unison."
"So, who wants to do the honours and present the parcel?"

Re: Zyanya Game, Session 1
For a remote place like this, it seems awful crowded. I wonder if this concerns our mission? he says to noone in particular.
The wine does a little to warm him but he has hard time enjoying it due to the commotion around him. He approaches the party that is about to leave and speaks.
Excuse me. Why is it that you would leave at this late hour? And in such unpleasant weather? Did something happen at this monastery?

Re: Zyanya Game, Session 1
The apparent leader of the group, an older human man with a Cipriano accent, smiles at you and says, 'mission for the Church lad, and since the forces of evil will not keep to a clock, we must ride regardless of the weather.' He winks at the lone elf in their party and says, 'besides, a touch of magic does make the trail easier.'
Archbishop Anson enters the room, and his presence is greeted by bows of respect. He is dressed in the regalia of his office, presenting quite an imposing sight. He wishes the man you were speaking with a pleasant journey, and that group makes for the door. He nods in acknowledgment of your party, and then goes to the other group. A few stern words, and they cease their arguments and also make for the door, somewhat abashed.
Archbishop Anson exchanges a few words with the other priest, then approaches you, 'ah, welcome, welcome. With the weather, I was not expecting you until morning. Rooms of course, will be provided for you, I would not send my brother's liege men back out in this.' A closer view reveals that the archbishop seems tense and weary.

Re: Zyanya Game, Session 1
Baldor keeps to himself, drinking his wine and muttering about having a literal pain in the behind after all that riding. When the archbishop appears Baldor bows to him but leaves the talking to someone else.

Re: Zyanya Game, Session 1
Ib kneels as the archbishop aproaches.
Father. he says and bows his head.
Your kindness is highly appreciated. I feel sorry for the man who must venture out into this cold, unforgiving night.
He raises his head to face the archbishop.
Still, we have yet to be informed of why you summoned us here. Would you tell us here or would you rather enlighten us in the morning?

Jason bows to the archbishop reverently.
"Your Excellncy, it is a great honour to serve Lord Vergil and it is an even greater honour to be considered fit to serve the church.
And we would not hesistate to brave the night and cold should duty call."

Your eminence, we are glad to have made it to your monastery. And we thank you for receiving us personally, despite the great commotion. You are a most noble host. I hope you are not expecting many more guests, as it is getting towards the hour when most should retire.

Re: Zyanya Game, Session 1
"Your eagerness does you much credit," the archbishop smiles. "But please, make yourselves comfortable. Our business can wait until morning." His smile does not reach his eyes, and if anything, he seems a little more tense after saying that.
The servant will direct you to a room with six beds. The room is warm, but sparsely decorated. There is a shelf with several books available, mostly philosophical works, but there are two on various heroes of Amareth.
Dinner is brought to you, a delicious mutton stew and some warm, crusty, slightly sweet bread.Last edited by KeresM; 2008-12-21 at 04:56 PM.

Re: Zyanya Game, Session 1
Ib has a helping of the delicious food and after finishing the stew he takes his bread and grabs one of the books about the heroes of Amareth. He sits down on one of the beds and starts thumbing through it.
This reminds me of my childhood. he says to noone in particular My grandfather used to tell me stories of heroism all the time. I wonder if it says anything about any heroes from Ejnar?
