Baldor takes back his rope and turns to the bandit. "Now, what shall we do with you?"

Jason rolls up the rope and hands it back to Baldor.

Regarding the surrendering bandit, he speaks thus:
"Under normal circumstances, we would take him prisoner, move him to a court of law and let the authorities decide his fate. But right now we are on a mission that does not allow such a distraction.

Regardless, the true purpose of law and punishment is allow people to live together peacefully. Those who violate the peace get punished, the idea being to stop or at least discouraging them from breaking the peace again.

Now I don't know why this man decided to turn into a parasite, preying on his fellow men. But at the very least, the fate of his comrades should make it painfully obvious to him how he is going to end his life if he does not mend his ways.

Therefore I vote we let him go, this time, trusting that todays experience will have a sobering effect on him and make him a valuable member of civilised society again."

Jason steps right up to the bandit and stares at him.

"Of course, should we ever come across him again, finding him not to have mended his ways, I also vote we make him curse the day he was born on before we are finished with him."

Jason isn't really advocating torture or anything, he is however trying to instill the fear of the gods into the guy, hoping it will encourage him to abandon his bandit lifestyle.

André's eyes widen in shock as the healing energy hits him.

Mon Dieu.... I had not received such healing since I broke an arm and a leg falling off a horse 12 years years ago, I had forgotten how.... intense it is. You have my thanks.

He takes the sword from Ib and makes a few mock attacks with it.

The balance is nearly perfect, but as to value... I cannot say. However, I beleive I should take the sword, in fact I insist. I took the whoreson's head, and I claim his sword as my share of the loot.

Receiving the healing, Ib says:"Sister. You are worthy of all my praise. If we are again, I shall see to it that noone will even get close to you. I made vow to protect and I can't help to feel I let you down."

He turns to Andre and smiles.
"Go right ahead, friend. It is probably a better fit for your fancy fencing anyway. I prefer a bulkier instrument. And as for it's monetary profit. I doubt that we should need, seeing how much coin these scoundrels were carrying."

"May I suggest we get going again? We don't know if the bandits will be back with reinforcements or not, and I would prefer not to find out." Baldor gestures towards the horse he was sharing before the fight.

The remaining bandit sighs, Perhaps we can come to a bargain? I will tell you of the man who hired Marek, and in return, ye will not leave me here to die with this broken leg? He looks at Baldor. There is a makeshift bridge, a quarter mile upstream. One at a time, it will be safe enough for your horses. I will not act against you.

Baldor looks at his companions. "Well, I think that does sound pretty reasonable, though I think we should bind his hands just to be on safe. What do you guys say?"

Jason

Jason considers the bandit's offer, nodding slowly.

"What do you say? You have been hired to waylay us? You are right. With your broken leg, it would be more mercyfull to just run you through and be done with it. But you offered us advice freely and I am willing to return the favour."

Jason turns to Sister Alina "Sister Alina, it is not up to me to decide who you bless with the healing powers invested into you by the gods. But if that man helps us by revealing who our true foe is, would you sonsider healing his leg so he has a chance to make it back to civilisation adn live a better life then before?"

But unfortunately, he was not privy to the negotiations themselves and thus does not know the reason why, only that they were to be paid 1000 gold to bring that man your belongings.

Alina moves to the bandit and lays her hands upon him.

It is our duty to minister to the needs of the wounded. It is not my place to judge, but you may consider looking to Samad and contemplating if this is truly the route you want to take with your life. The burden of your choice is upon your soul, of course.

[OOC: Rather than use my last 1st level spell on the bandit, I will do a heal check, then cast a Cure Minor]

That should set your leg such that you can manage to get back to a village and get it tended to properly. The blessings of Samad be upon you.

"Very well," says Jason, "if this about cover it, we should be on our way."

He makes sure to recover his shortspear and then mounts the horse again.

"Let us make sure to make some more way today. Once this mysterious stranger learns about his plan's failure, he might send a stronger force. Not sure why he wants some travelling soldier's gear so badly, but then again, then world's full of madmen."

Jason has the sinking feeling that the 'mysterious stranger' might have at least a hunch about what his group is meant to protect. But this must not be mentioned in front of the (hopefully soon to be ex-)bandit.

The foot bridge is a bit shaky, but you manage to cross without incident. The path is fairly well worn, and judging by a hole cut in the ice, is obviously used by fishermen. The path is roughly in the direction you are headed, and would likely lead to a village of some sort.

Through the trees you can see a small herd of deer, moving east. They quicken their pass as a wolf howls in the distance.

Jason notices the passage of the deer, but doesn't pay them much heed. Since he is not experienced in wildlife lore, he thus cannot recognize the significance of this event.

After tending to the bandit and seeing him off, Alina will hurry back to her horse and be ready to continue traveling.

I suppose we should make haste, as it seems that there are those who would be most eager to waylay us, even now that we have turned from the more well-traveled routes.

She seems moderately concerned given the new turn of events.

"Well, let's get going then."

It is the day before winter solstice, and it is likely the village will be having a festival for the solstice. The odds are that most of the outlying farms have already gone to the village proper to join the festivities. You could cross the countryside free from prying eyes, or go back to the road and get a good warm meal.

"You all may disagree with me. But seeing how we are prone to ambushes even here in this unfriendly terrain, I would suggest following the main road. Whoever our hunter is he is not going to be averted simply by travelling in the woods anyhow. We might as well take the comfortable route."
He scans the faces of the party, gauging their interest in the suggestion.

"Well. What do you say?"

Jason ponders this for a moment, then nods.

"Agreed. Plus, if our nemesis tries to strike again, he will have to be much more subtle about it. Also, returning to civilisation means having potential allies nearby."

He looks at the others to gauge their reaction, fully expecting them to follow this path.

Alina frowns, deep in thought.

I suspect our "nemesis" won't have any compunction with attacking us whatever route we choose. The last attack on the roads could not be called subtle, if this was the same fellow. I suppose it makes little difference either way though we save time cutting cross country.

You reach the village an hour before nightfall, and are greeted warmly. The inn is full of peddlers, but if you express a wish to stay in town several villagers will offer an extra bed at their homes.

There is a feast about to begin, and you are invited. A group of three musicians is playing, and several people are dancing. The peddlers have set up their wagons and are selling trinkets, jewelry, silk scarves, and other items.

Jason

"Hrm, the inn is full. If we take the invitation of the villagers, we'll be seperated for the night. Not too good. Well, let us see if these peddlers have heard any good rumours."

Jason goes around and samples the wares, spending a few silver pieces on a few trinkets.

"So you basically travel around and sell sour wares? Maybe you could tell us about the roads, anything one should know about these days?"
