Dragon Breath while muttering something about billtodamax giving the game to otakuryoga with his stupid announcement
i take it that means i nailed you again?

Of course. I can't believe bill gave away my location. Even if you can't win yourself, it completely screws up the game for others giving away stuff like that

Now, as this is a new game I guess it’s survey time!
1.Did you have fun?
2.Did you have a strategy/system, or did you just fire blind?
3.Does the game actually work?
4.Any rule changes needed to make it better?
5.Were the starting abilities and upgrades balanced?
6.Are the Deathmatch-style updates sufficient, or would it be better to narrate things?
7.Would you play again, starting an ongoing league table?
8.Any other comments?

1. Oh heck yeah.
2. Move round, fire blindly. You can attest that I lost track of where I was.
3. It does with the exception of the bruce-lee power. I think, to keep that confusing, perhaps bruce-lee upon use of power teleports to someplace random?
4. See answer 3.
5. I think so, except for the bruce lee issue mentioned early in game.
6. No, those work fine. Though I can see FCs point. Be careful not to give away WHO hit WHO, just person's hit and person's fragged, unless of course only one person was shot in that round.
7. I'd enjoy another round.
8. Brilliant idea - I hope to see more of these in the future.

Yeah, it was a good time.

I started out with a sheet of graph paper and made a copy of the map for every player, adjusting with each turn where it was possible for everyone to be (based on movement ranges from targets). I think I screwed up at some point, though, because I had a map or two that wound up saying that some players couldn't be at any spot on the map. I wound up giving up all that work for no payout somewhere past the game's midpoint.
I think I'd try to come up with a more refined system (an one that relied less on erasing and redrawing positions in a future game.

Yes. For the most part, it balances nicely and provides a challenge. It's kind of like playing battleship, but being able to move your ships.

I think the game may run into a problem when one player gets a few frags in a row. Once Otakuryoga got Super Bombing Arm and X-ray Specs, as long as he stood still, he was effectively invisible. Really, most combinations of abilities have the capability to make someone exponentially harder to hit and/or much more likely to kill a target. So, once someone starts winning, they become very hard to stop.
Also, depending on the player's circumstances, the same bonus can be hugely overpowering or completely useless. X-ray specs meant nothing to someone with base range in the middle of the map, but could be huge to someone hiding in a corner. Super bombing arm means nothing to a sniper, but everything to just about anyone else.
And dragon breath only has the drawback of making the other players want you gunned down so bad, they don't care if it costs them the game.
Maybe, to help balance these things overall, the earned abilities should time out after a round or two or should, instead of being random add-ons, should follow in a progression from the starting ability. Just some suggestions.

Sniper bombs feels overpowered, but that's been corrected for in heat 2. The addition of more central cover in heat 2 will likely make sniper bombs less powerful there as well. I think how the abilities scale against one another will depend on cover.

I think some kind of color or narration would help as things start to feel repetitive as the game goes on.

I'd definitely be interested in playing again, but I think I'd want to wait on rankings or anything of that sort until the rules are a little more solid.
perhaps have movement done by PM instead of in thread(your poor inbox though)
that way even in event such as we had there would be no way to know where FC moved to
shots should obviously be kept in thread so there is at least some chance of figuring out targets

Or Bruce Lee and Dragon Breath should teleport to another point with killing.
I had fun but I only randomly shot and moved. Don't had time for more.

Trophy time! Generously made by Elder Tsofu, and at outrageously short notice on my part too.
For our winner, Otakuryoga:
For our deadiest competitors, Bobby Archer and Billtodamax:
For our almost forgotten inactives, Khal and Lord Loss:
And finally, participation trophies for everyone:

This is fair, and I realised the Bruce Lee power screwed the holder any time it actually went off. So for Heat 2 the Bruce Lee power does have a limited teleport which kicks in when the user frags someone. Hopefully that will improve the power.

I agree with this, and it's something I need to think about. Once Otakuryoga got the ability to shoot anywhere on the board and have his shots pass through walls, and shoot four spots if he stood still...well, there is a problem there.

To be fair, I don't think it was Bill's intention to gift Otakuryoga the game, and I'm not sure it was the power itself that caused any problem. After all, if you're fragged from one square away or ten squares away the end result is the same. Intestine Soup for tea!
Very true about the power up combinations though. I'm considering upgrade trees based on people's starting abilities like you said, or maybe only having one upgrade usable at once, so that if you frag a second target you have to chose whether to take the new power or stick with the old one.
Either that or upgrades will drop on the square someone gets fragged, so anyone can pick them up.

Yeah, FPS style updates work to get the relevant information across, but I think a bit of flavour narration would help. Noted for future rounds. As far as future heats go, I think I'm going to finish Heat 2 and then take a good hard look at the rules, tweak them until they scream, then go for another Heat. I have a bit of work to do before that comes around though.

PM movement would help to avoid FC's final deatha nd similar situations, but as you say, my poor inbox! I want to keep this game as PM-light as possible for both myself and players, so that I can run it alongside WW games, rather than instead of.

Teleportation for Dragon Breath could be good, but does that make it too powerful? The possibility of getting multiple frags and being untraceable afterwards is a major one.
I asked about your systems because in Heat 2 people have got scripts running and all that kind of madness. I didn't think anyone would take this silly game so seriously!
1.Did you have fun?
2.Did you have a strategy/system, or did you just fire blind?
3.Does the game actually work?

7.Would you play again, starting an ongoing league table?
8.Any other comments?
1) Yeah it was fun.
2)Yeah I had an awesome strategy... random number and letter generator for my maximum range.
3)Pretty much
4)Too lazy to write but you're doing good so it doesn't matter.
5)Yeah
6)It would probably be awesome with narration but it was pretty cool just like this too.
7)I would probably play again now that summer vacation has started. :D
1.Did you have fun?
- Aye I did. Wanted to have more though but things conspired against me so I couldn't set up my system.
2.Did you have a strategy/system, or did you just fire blind?
- Blind as one of them flying rats.
3.Does the game actually work?
- It does, we're (occasional) living proof aren't we?
4.Any rule changes needed to make it better?
- The balance when you've got a kill streak, at this point it is horrible. ^^
Maybe you could announce positions of people playing sitting ducks after the second time in the same square?
5.Were the starting abilities and upgrades balanced?
- Sure, although it was a bit hit or miss, like me getting Fleeing coward after I had chose run like hell already. But hey that's life. ^^
6.Are the Deathmatch-style updates sufficient, or would it be better to narrate things?
- Narrations would be nice, but this was sufficient.
7.Would you play again, starting an ongoing league table?
- I think so yes.
