Note: As of 3/20/12 all entries have been updated with not only the date of the comment, but the last posted comic at the time of the comment. This is simply to provide context and does not imply any shifts in opinions or decisions by Rich. Unless Rich specifically indicates that he has changed his mind or intention on something, arguments to that effect are purely speculative.

Phantasm, good sir, you. Are. Awesome.

I nominate this thread for being stickied.

Also, as a word of help: you might want to give some more detail on those links.

Right. The subjects could be vague if you don’t know what you are looking for. Plus a brief, one sentence summary might be useful. Save a page-load for those folks that don’t need the exact quote.

Thanks for the input guys. I expanded some of them to make them less vague. Let me know if this is better. As for saving a page-load, I'd rather encourage folks to follow / use the links when they quote Rich, both for accuracy and so they can provide direct links to what he says rather than just paraphrasing it.

I will go back over them and maybe tweak them some more tomorrow when I have time.

This seems similar to the stickied post at the top of the board by Baron. It might be that this information is better there.

(Still useful, though...)

This is more of a discussion info resource than a list of recurring / repeat threads. For example, Rich's quote about the V Gender Debate early history gets cited frequently in the V Gender Debate thread. I think this thread is actually pretty different both in intent and function from Baron's, but maybe I'm wrong.

Also, I don't think Baron's stickied post has been updated since 2009.

Hmmm, if I wanted to be really pedantic, I would point out that it's not really a "Giant" Word of God index, more sort of small or medium.

I don't think that's correct. I'd hope that Rich is a big enough man to take people disagreeing with him, even over WOG.

But If a moderator closes a thread because of too much snark, it is forbidden to open a new thread to continue the discussion. It is forbidden because it would lead to the same snark starting up again. Nothing to do with disagreeing with Rich.

I'm sure he is. I made the rule as a better-safe-than-sorry adherence to situations like the one in the red text here. Maybe there is a better way to word it than the way I have. I can change the rule to be more accurate if need be. Is the new phrasing more acceptable?

Well, I’m not talking about people saving page loads when they are trying to support themselves in discussion. More or less for when they just personally are trying to remember the gist of some point Rich made and an up-to-date, trustworthy secondhand source will do for them. If they should require the words out of the Giant’s mouth, that is what the hyperlink is for.

And as long as that hyperlink is there, that does make this index a fair bit more trustworthy than the post that says, “I’m pretty certain the Giant said V is Lawful Neutral, but I’ll have to look it up,” without any follow-up post.

Right, I see what you mean now. Sorry.

I think what the OP means is that this thread right here is made for a single purpose: to destroy the world of men.

Er, I mean...sorry. That was Saruman, not the OP.

This thread is here so that we can compile WoG quotes by Rich, not so that we can discuss said quotes. That would derail it and make it no longer useful for putting said quotes up and organizing them. Though I'm sure if people disagreed strongly enough with Rich on one point, they'd be perfectly able to try making a new thread to discuss it.

See CarpeGuitarrem's post #18, which makes sense. Better if you say that the thread is only for listing the WOG, and any discussion of the issues should go in a new thread.

I used a link shortener for some of them. I've never heard of someone having problems following shortened links though. The links work just fine for me.

Servants of a God Of Death can't raise dead.
( This probably explains why Malack didn't raise dead for his own children.)

Actually he said that servants of death gods are the only ones he is aware of that restrict/discourage raising of the dead. That doesn't necessariy mean that all of them do so.

Now you might very well be right about this, but I think we should be careful about applying WOG status to things unless they are out and out clear cut, well, WOG posts.

The exact words are :
Evil characters are neither prohibited nor even discouraged from raising the dead in the OOTS universe—nor in any other D&D world of which I'm aware, unless they specifically serve a god of Death.

The important words :
Evil characters are [not] prohibited from raising the dead unless they specifically serve a god of Death.

It seems like he's saying that servants of a god of Death ARE prohibited from raising dead.

It's possible I misunderstood.

Sort of.

He's saying that, in at least one D&D world, at least one death god forbids, or at least discourages, his/her evil clerics from raising the dead.
