It took me a while to figure out how the guards would react to this. Sure, I planned them to be this campaign's first encounter, but Bluey lost his will save fair and square. However, as I forced myself to start typing a response, an idea came to me. If any of you were looking forward to learning how an encounter works, you'll have to wait a little bit longer.
You could have added +5 to the blue guards saving throw since he may have considered himself 'threatened', but it seems that it still would have been one short of beating the DC.
I thought about that and the possibility of him being "half-charmed" because of his previous attitude, but as you mentioned, even giving him a +5 bonus wouldn't have let him save. I decided it was better to let the Charm succeed than to railroad everyone into an encounter.
shayanuser, I am assuming the final line of your last post should have been in italics?
Related to that, I think it would help to avoid any potential confusion if any speech, in addition to being in your colour were also contained within "quotation marks", some of us seem to be doing it already, whilst others aren't. It would also help to add more uniformity between the posts.
Do any experienced players have any tips for how we should run this now that the party is kind of splitting up? I have a few ideas on how to get the party back together, I'm just wondering whether it would be faster/cleaner to use PMs or still do it on the board, or possibly another method I'm not aware of.
Hmm, well. It depends, either way I'm afraid it's going to mean more work for you Alagaesian.
As we all seem to be going our seperate way, then PMs are most likely the easiest way of doing things. If, in the future, the party splits into a couple of well defined groups, then starting extra threads to keep track of things is probably easiest.
Sorry for making it harder for you Alagaesian but running just seemed like the logical thing to do for a low level character. We're clearly in over our heads.
I hoped I didn't invoke the Wrath of the DMTM

Though I am not technically being called on, might I suggest an 'All roads lead to Rome' approach? It doesn't seem unreasonable to me that all the actions we've taken so far might lead to same place. Myself, I've no idea where Aleksand is actually going to end up, so he's free to be steered towards wherever most befits the plot.
Nah, I'm not much of a person to strike people with mysterious bolts of purple lighting coming from a clear sky. Though, I will say this about DMing - it's like trying to heard a group of ducklings with a tank. You have so much power over them, but it can be tricky trying to get them to do what you want without outright squashing them. It's okay, I'm not frustrated or anything, I'm just learning how to use my tank properly.
Actually, I'm sort of glad that I've encountered my first wild party split-up in this helpful environment, as opposed to a couple months down the road when I would be a lot more hesitant asking for suggestions. I'll probably send out PMs to everyone in a few hours, after my classes are done, but I'll wait for SwordScythe to post a response in the IC thread before doing anything with Hong-Hua.
Edit: Sodalite, sorry, didn't see your post before I started posting. But yes, I'm planning on using that sort of approach.

PbP is actually a really good way to learn DMing, not that I did so myself, but in retrospect it would have been helpful. The non-simultaneous nature of it all gives you time to think and plan things out to a finer degree, it also makes party splits much less annoying.
On the other hand, DMing in person teaches you to think quickly, improves your improv abilities, taxes your conflict resolution skills and helps you expand your reserve of funny voices and accents.
Both have their lessons to impart is basically what I'm saying, and don't worry, you'll get the hang of it. Everyone's a bit all over the place when they first start, once you get to know the rules and the party's abilities a bit better things should start feeling more natural and generally begin falling into place.

You know, I've thought the same thing on more than one occasion. Well, excepting the part about voices and accents. I still suck at those and it's been, what, four years now?

I suppose the different voices part would have been somewhat difficult for me anyways. One, I can't speak in any accent besides my own for more than about two sentences before I devolve into this bizarre mixture of Western and Italian. Two, I've noticed that men's voices are slightly more versatile than women's - they have that entire falsetto range to work with.
I was going to PM everyone this afternoon, but I got swamped with a ton of real life things I had to take care of. Here's how this whole party-split up is going to work out: since Kole and Regret are still in the same area, I'm going to post their stuff on the IC thread. Everyone else, I'll PM you. I won't be able to do anything tonight, mainly because I don't think I'd be able to write anything of quality when all I want to do is sleep. I swear I'll update for everyone at some point tomorrow, though.
EDIT: By the way, Mr. White, I believe the proper spelling of the earth god is "Garshen", not "Grashen". Sorry if you thought this from a typo on my part.

Sorry for the double post, but I have to do some rolls because the forum dice-roller doesn't appear to work in PMs. Some of them are rolls for NPCs or passive checks for a few of you, so I'll put those in a spoiler.
Also, I'm extremely sorry, Hellfire! I completely forgot about you, trying to PM four other people and run the IC thread for two others. I'll get to work on your PM right away.
I like to apologise again for the extra work Alagaesian. In my defence, and without trying to be a jerk, it felt like the logical thing to do for my character.

Nah, it's fine. I'm probably just going to continue updating everyone more slowly that usual. It was easy to do one update a day on the IC thread, but six is pushing it. Don't worry - everyone seems to be biting the plot hooks that will eventually bring the seven of you back together again.
Sorry for the week of lagging updates, guys. I hate exams.
Here's more NPC rolls.
Spoiler
(1d20+7)[27] (1d20+5)[25] (1d20+4)[16]
By the way, feel free to roll your own Sense Motive, Listen, Spot, and whatever checks you want at any time.
EDIT: Grr...and now my computer's acting up. If I can't respond to you very quickly for the next couple days, please understand.
I should also probably take this opportunity to say that I'm still waiting for a response to SwordScythe. I sent out Hong-Hua's original IC PM a week and a half ago. Iceman has also taken a little longer than usual to respond to my lastest PM, but considering that exams stalled my response to his PMs for almost a week, I'm willing to condone a few days of delay from anyone. Still, it would be nice to get the party back together, and that can only happen at the rate of the slowest responder.

If there is anyone who haven't posted anything in a couple of weeks, I think we should go on without them. They can always join later.

Okay, my computer is fixed and I'm back in the game. I should be able to get everyone updated within the near future.
I'll send a PM to both SwordScythe and Iceman to check on them. If either or both of them can't continue this, I'll PM Ironfist Orc and possibly Zolkabro to let them know that positions are opening up.
By the way, Mr. White, I can't tell from your response - did Thomas actually follow him inside, or are you still standing in the doorway?
I was going to do some more passive skill checks for a few of you, but I can't seem to access Mythweavers. The only people whose character sheets I can still get to are Hellfire and Jack. Everyone else, can you please at least post your character's Spot, Listen, and Sense Motive modifiers so I can run a few of these checks? Moving your character sheet to a different hosting service would be even better, and unless Mythweavers eventually becomes accessible again, I might ask everyone to do it anyways.
Also, Mr. White, I still need to know whether or not you walked into the store. Not only does it influence what your character can see, but it also chances how some of my NPC's will act.
