Right. Computer functional. Internet working. Hard drive replaced, but I was able to back up most things. Outlook: cautiously optimistic.

ATM it's looking like we will be able to play this week. I lost a fair amount of work, but nothing I can't recreate. We had the good fortune of my machine getting scrambled at a time when your next step is kinda undetermined: presumably you will make plans based on what Kharis tell you, and what he tells you will depend on what you ask him.

So. Two ways this can go.

A) You post some questions (5 total remember) in the next couple of days, I post answers, you come up with a plan, and I make maps/npcs/encounters in accordance with that plan. Time is a factor here, since I need at least a day or two to make stuff, but we can probably manage.

B) If plan A fails (you want more time, I need more time, or you'd rather interrogate Kharis "live" than in the thread), I can instead plan some sort of sidequest (or who knows, just do a quick side campaign, maybe a pre-published adventure module with temporary characters) so we don't have to skip another week.

Your call.

I admit, I'd kinda wanted to interview him live; makes it easier to plan and account for unexpected answers. However, to my chagrin, it look pretty proof positive I won't be around this weekend; I've been conscripted into assisting my parents move from their old house into their new one.

Happens to us all.

Does that mean you'd rather sleep in? Perfectly understandable, but with magotter out, that leaves half the party missing.

We could still do the interrogation today, and leave any fighting for next week. Or, since not everyone will be present, we could instead use it as an extra week to think up questions/answers, since so far you are the only one to suggest any.

Quick transcript of Q&A session with the mind-controlled Maralith. Any additional questions by players not present can be posed, as I specifically asked about that prior to disposing of the demon (and that demon is probably not going to be back soon... but if she does come back, she'll probably have a little bit of a grudge).

I've removed some OOC comments, and things not related to the interrogation, from the below.

Starscream: Go ahead. Plane Shift isn't a usual ability for mariliths, but this one is a general, so I gave it to her in place of her summoning ability, 3/day
Starscream: She planeshifted her foces there, came back, so she has one more today
* Ornald continues "What all forces did you send with the key to have it destroyed, and what all forces do you expect to already be there to aid with that task?"
Starscream: "Several Glabrezus, Nalfeshnees, and Bebiliths"
* Ornald 'asks' "How many of each?"
Starscream: Then let's say 2 Bebiliths, 3 Glabrezus, 2 Nalfeshnees.
Starscream: And maybe a handfull of little nobodies that won;t shift the encounter level.
* Ornald continues with the interrogation "Other than the Key, do they have any other particular items with them that they might try to use in battle?"
Starscream: "Just their ordinary armaments."
* Ornald continues interrogating her for a time, asking in detail about the capabilities of each creature mentioned (This is mostly just an IC excuse to look them up OOC and prepare spells accordingly, at the moment, as I don't have Knowledge(The Planes) to just know about them). Ornald also asks "So... what are the capabilities that you're aware of for the current merged being that is Karthyx?"
Starscream: "His host was quite powerful, for a mortal. Karthyx himself was a talented spellcaster, and retains those abilities."
Starscream: "Mostly the host is just a big brute, I think. Not very bright."
Ornald: "What type of spellcaster, and what sorts of spells does he favor?"
Starscream: "He is a master of trickery and illusion, as well as destructive spells of all kinds."
Ornald: (Is it OK to put a 'space' in here so that the players not present can ask questions on the forums, even though what I'm going to do next would make her rather permanently unavailable?)
Starscream: Alright. We can do that
* Ornald waits until everyone runs out of questions, then orders the demon "Stay here until the Dimensional Anchor expires. Then, Plane Shift yourself to Hell, slay all devils that you find as quickly as you can. If you run out of devils, seek out more. Repeat as much as you can forever."

Session closed. Three players in attendance.

Interrogated Kharis about the whereabouts of the Key, and the demonic plans for it. Seems Karthyx wanted to hang onto it for a while, to aid in his conquest of Gust. The other demons, aware of how pointless this was, insisted he stick to the plan and destroy the Key instead (and with it, everything).

Eventually he relented, and allowed his second in command, a Marilith named Ilzabet, to take it, in return for aiding his own plans by preventing the halflings from summoning reinforcements from their Air Elemental allies.

Ilzabet took the Key, and sent her own forces into the Concordant Domain of the Outlands. In the center of that plane, all magic becomes useless, even that of the gods, and it is the only place the Key is not indestructible. Although they could not Plane Shift to the center because of this, they traveled farther out and started walking in.

Ilzabet herself took up the annoying duty of guarding a Gate to the Plane of Air, through which the halflings could normally summon allies. She started killing anything that came through.

The party arrived, slew the few guards she had (she made no effort to stop you), and confronted her. Ilzabet couldn't care less about guarding the portal, and tried to convince you there was no point to fighting her, as she would never give up the location of the Key and killing her would only be temporary.

Ornald however used his Scrying to describe what he saw, and it became clear that Karthyx had gone back on the deal; he was now in the Outlands himself and fighting other demons, in an attempt to reclaim the Key. Ilzabet was furious to know this, now convinced that his mind had been too far corrupted by being in Adamus, but insisted she would destroy him herself without PC intervention.

A new challenger appeared from the portal, a Smoke Monolith, who combined traits of both Air and Fire and was a little too much for her. She couldn't teleport away, as Deego had cast Dimensional Anchor on her. During the scuffle, Ornald was able to take control of Ilzabet's mind, and the party fought off her attacker so she could be interrogated. The monolith was spared and sent back home unconscious, with a note explaining that now the elementals could aid the halflings unimpeded.

Ilzabet gave the information quoted above, and was then ordered to Plane Shift to the 9 Hells and go on a rampage, until such time as she is destroyed (or the spell wears off, if she lasts that long). For convenience sake, if anyone has further questions for her they can ask here, and we will just assume she answered before being sent off.

Saturdays at any time is good.

Sundays after 6PM EST is good.

Fridays are generally good at any time.

Weekdays are... iffy. After 5PM on mondays is good. Tuesday through Thursday no time available, really.

With my upcoming work schedule, I can expect to work anywhere between 8 AM and 9 PM on Weekdays. Saturdays will be 9 AM to 5-or-6 PM, perhaps later if there's a community event i need to host, and Sundays 10AM to 6PM. I'll try and see about getting Saturday nights off, as it looks like so far that's the best time for everyone.

The first, say, 3 or 4 weeks or so, until at least Mid-May, should leave me more free, as I'll only be doing training.

Traveled to the Outlands, a place where magic is muted, and the only location where the Key would be vulnerable. Found yourselves in a giant hedge maze inhabited by living construct chess pieces, waging an endless war. After angering the kings, they agreed to settle their contest by seeing which one could kill you.

Fought your way through the maze, battling various pieces, until you reached the exit. There the black and white kings revealed themselves to actually be black and white dragons, who were using this contest to gamble with the hoards without directly fighting each other.

They attacked, and the black dragon was slain. The white's life was spared in return for the location of the black's hoard and fled.

Regarding the schedule:

Okay, I've done my best to illustrate the situation. Please let me know if I've made any mistakes.

Basically it looks like we've got a problem here. There is no one time period that everyone can agree upon.

At least, not without some complications.

*Galliard said he starts his raids at 6 PM Pacific, weekends. That's 9 pm Eastern.
* Magotter said he works until 5 or 6 pm on those days (I'm assuming Eastern, please correct me if I'm wrong).
* Null is likewise available at 6 on Sundays, and Saturdays any time.
* Jack is available Saturdays, and needs to sleep by 10 pm Sundays, which is after Galliard would need to quit anyway.
* I personally am available all day Saturday, and while I do need to get to bed on Sunday Night, I usually don't do so until 11 my time (midnight EST).

That leaves 3-4 hours on both Saturdays and Sundays. Maybe we can fit the games in those times? Does anyone have any preference as to Saturday or Sunday? Or perhaps play on Saturday, and then if we leave things unfinished do an hour or two Sunday?

If worse comes to worse and we can't find any compromise, I suppose we could convert this campaign to a PBP one and everyone can just post whenever. That's a bit of a last ditch scenario, of course, since it would make mapping difficult, and I personally find "live" play more fun.

I certainly don't want to lose anyone if I can help it. We're sort of in the home stretch of this campaign, so adding new players would be difficult. Too much background they'd need to learn by this point.

So... level up, treat the 'new' spells as expended & fill them during rest, level up after we're out of the Outlands, or what?
