Re: Trogland Meetup Episode VI: The Return of the Forumites
Amtrak has a station in Memphis; you could get there from one of the south Texas stops pretty easily (I don't know about any other passenger train carriers.. they're not really a big thing in this country.) From either Memphis or Atlanta it should be relatively easy to get a bus to Johnson City (definitely Greyhound, less expensive carriers may be available as well.) And if you can manage to get your schedule relatively close to those of us who are driving, you may be able to catch a ride out of Memphis/Nashville/Knoxville; many of us coming from westward funnel through there, because that's where the interstate goes.

I may need to hit you up for that, I'm half an hour SoNa and I don't have a way to get there currently.
Re: Trogland Meetup Episode VI: The Return of the Forumites
SoNa = South of Nashville? GoogleMaps tells me that you might be as little as 20 minutes out of our way. Or as much as an hour or so, depending on exactly where you are, but one reason to travel on Thursday and Monday is to have plenty of time to take it easy.

Re: Trogland Meetup Episode VI: The Return of the Forumites
It is likely that my schedule will be fairly flexible, but I'm still not sure. I'm gonna be working over the summer for about a month before the meetup, and the meetup sorta marks when I'm leaving.
Re: Trogland Meetup Episode VI: The Return of the Forumites
Hm. I could potentially come to this, as, for right now, I am living in Chesapeake, VA. This is WAY less distance than my native CT.
@SMELLIE HIPPIE: I am also belay-qualified, and have my own harness, belay device, and carabiners! Additionally, I grill me some mean vegetables (and by mean, I mean to say delicious, because I am vegetarian, so I specialize).
Also, I HAS GAMES. Not only do I have a metric ton of RPGs, I have all the Parsely games (fun party games that play out like massively multiplayer karaoke Zork, with one person playing as the computer), board games GALORE (favorites include Caveman Curling, Zong Shi, FRAG!, Inn-Fighting, Castle Ravenloft, and many others!

Gryffon and I make a 6-hour drive (one-way), and it is SO worth it! Also, it may be less expensive to fly somewhere else (like Asheville) and be picked up. From what I understand, flying INTO JC is quite costly, comparatively.
Re: Trogland Meetup Episode VI: The Return of the Forumites
Nope. Unfortunately, Asheville is actually (negligibly) MORE expensive.
I worry about the drive less for myself and more for my car, which has 230,000 miles on it. It IS a Toyota, though...damn. Hm...wonder how much a car rental would be...

That both intrigues and terrifies me.
I feel you on the not-trusting-vehicle thing. That's the main reason we haven't made it up to the Baltimore meetup yet.
I'm not sure what your budgetting is for flights/rentals etc, but if witnesses are to be believed, should you come, you will believe it to have been well worth it.

What would be the name of that game? I enjoyed Zork and would like to look for this.

I'm near Franklin, if that helps- about 30 minutes south.

A. Only Action Castle (not Action Castle II or any other one) has the Parsely rules themselves.
B. You don't really need the rules themselves, if you've played Zork or similar text adventures, and have decent imagination (I'm speaking from experience here, as I ran Z-Ward before ever owning any of the other Parsely games).
EDIT: While you're at the website, you owe it to yourself to check out InSpectres. It's awesome.
Re: Trogland Meetup Episode VI: The Return of the Forumites
Anyway, I wonder if someone can offer me some living room floor space and a spartan amount of shower/prep time in the mornings/evenings. If so, I'm in. And my games. And my belaying equipment to boot. ;)
Re: Trogland Meetup Episode VI: The Return of the Forumites
What happened to the rent-a-house-for-the-weekend thing? Did that fall through or is it still on the table? If not, male couple interested in splitting a room Thursday through Sunday. Inquire by PM.

Sweet; me & Chris won't be the only ones. We shall grill beautiful music (& vegetables) together.
My financial situation is now . . . better than it has been, and I even turned down an opportunity to lead a service that Sunday, so me & Chris are definitely coming down. Which means I can fully, legitimately offer the Zombiemobile for Gwyn and any others Canadians/people close to I-79.

I could totally split a double room with you guys. Assuming you two don't mind sharing a bed.

No . . . I think we're really quite over any uneasiness about that. The rooms in our apartment are really too small for a 50's TV-style setup with separate twin beds and a nightstand between them, anyway.

I admit it, I lol'd.
Also, if I end up going, expect there to definitely be at least one mass Parsely game.
(CONTEXT: The guy being the Parser is actually taking his turn at a public Q&A with the two guys on the stage at PAX.)

Ropes Course has been reserved, and will be having a signficant overhaul just two weeks prior to our event. It should be nice and shiney.
Mid City Grill is expecting us, and we are also pursuing the possibility of sending a request for a review by Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Any support for this would be greatly appreciated, and we recieved the blessing from the owner this weekend.
Mountain Faerie and I are still courting our Friday night venue, Cootie Brown's. They don't typically allow reservations for such a large group on weekends in the summer, having been burnt by groups in the past. We have gotten he moniker of 'regulars' by a few waitresses and possibly the owner, so we should be good to go.
That's it for now. I believe the meet-up committee will be meeting again sometime soon to continue further discussion.
Any other volunteers to help coordinate efforts (cooking, clean-up and communication) are always graciously accepted.

I spoke to my friend Jil who is a real estate agent in town. She said she might have some properties available that week, but won't know until the beginning of June. My recommendation is to go ahead and get hotel rooms. If we can find houses closer to the time, I'll send anyone interested the info and you can get in touch with Jil to make arrangements.
I would think giving several weeks notice to cancel a hotel room wouldn't be a problem if we come up with some houses.
