Default The Secret War - A conspiracy in spam

Alright, so Funcom is working on an MMO based on various conspiracies, where players play agents of either the Knights Templar, the Illuminati or the Dragon, fighting each other and all sorts of supernatural entities in a Secret War for World Domination in modern times. I'm personally a sucker for stories like these so once again I'll get suckered into an MMO.

Link here: http://www.thesecretworld.com/

There's also a rather spammy Facebook game going on, called The Secret War, which opens up for various rewards for The Secret World MMO including ingame weaponry and early beta access. Currently I have a rather annoying mission of recruiting 5 people to the game and I was hoping some of you guys might want to check it out, or at least help me out.

Referral link here: http://secretwar.thesecretworld.com/...recruit/315217

I'm really excited about the Secret World. The idea of a MMORPG where the focus isn't on beating up mooks but rather walking around and observing the world, lore and story (most of which is delivered through the world itself, not just NPC exposition) is really appealing to me. It's like a proper exploration story where you can take your friends along!

Also, if I throw enough money at the Secret World I might get a new Longest Journey somewhere down the line. That helps too.

Used referral link, no idea whether it worked or not.

It's got an interesting division of the map - for example, Taiwan is a separate territory to China and America is divided up into its constituent states.

I got another recruit, so I believe it did. And yeah, the map divisions are great. Really fitting for a global conspiracy vibe, I just imagine a shadowy council discussing who controls which american states and what powergroups they believe have interests in various hotspots all over the globe :)

I forget that British sarcasm can be a bit too subtle at times.
Should have had quotation marks over 'interesting'.

I was referring to the excessive US-centric world view (50 territories for one country, yet no other country is divided up like this) and the fact that Taiwan isn't a separate country from China.

I believe the developers are showing their political bias here, but we're not allowed to discuss things in more detail than that on this board.

That's why it's even more heinous.

Anyways, seems interesting, but MMO's seem in general to either be massive hits or fail utterly.

Been waiting for the Secret World since it was announced. <.<

Unfortunately, Secret War isn't working for me, because I *really* want to get in the beta.

Used to play Funcom's MMO Anarchy Online (which is still going, by all accounts, celebrating it's 11th anniversary soon, I believe). Which was a very fun game. Age of Conan less so... hoping Secret World will be good. Looking forward to it. ^.^

It would be nice to play a game without emphasis on grinding, loot, or builds.

Anybody know what its payment plan will be (freemium, hopefully)?

Ignoring the fact that they expect the U.S. to have the majority of their players, there is another good reason to have individual states seperately: it gives the Illuminati, the Templar and the Dragon roughly the same amount of "home" territories. If the United States (and Alaska) were one territory, it would give the Illuminati only about 30 home territories, compared to the 60+ that the Templar (Europe and Africa) and Dragon (Asia and Australia) get.

That makes sense in a game design perspective, since all territories are equivalent in-game and it's just the number you control that matters, rather than which ones.

Illuminati! Because Templars seem to lean a bit too dictatorial and Dragon has all this stuff about chaos that doesn't make much sense to me. So, to reiterate: Illuminati.

Really, I'd kind of like a "All of these groups seem a bit too evil for me, I wish they'd just go away" group.

It's relatively simple half arsed attempt at eastern mysticism.

Since the other two sides are promoting order, there must be another side promoting chaos as a counter balance. Since excessive order leads to stagnation and ossification, you need chaos to stimulate growth and change.

Just like a bushfire destroys everything in its path, it is also the seed for starting new life, so that new things can start growing without the well established ones choking them out.

Hmmm, three guesses as to which side I picked.

As I recall, someone wanted to sig one of your posts regarding cannibalism?

I think that was a couple of months ago, though.

Yup, they did. I can't remember what exactly I wrote without going through my post history as I was fairly sleep deprived at the time.
