And on a side note... a 2? Really? I rolled a two on the first attack? This does not bode well for me...

Wait wait wait. I haven't been reading the IC for the other characters.

Are you guys... fighting each other?

Because that's awesome, and I wish I could gamble on the fight
No one says you can't. This fight is actually taking place a bit in the future, so TSM would probably let you place a bet, as long as you did it quickly. Maybe just make an OOC post explaining that you will, who you'll bet on, and how much, and then work it in when you can IC?

Okay, been wracking my brain over this one. I don't think I've ever tripped anyone (I rarely play melee fighters, and the DM I normally play with has a low opinion of trip) so bear with me for a moment. I'd like to be sure for when you try to pull this crap on me

I got the dwarf doesn't get his stability bonus (poor bastard), but why does he get a -4?

Oh, I'm sorry, that's my mistake. I forgot that dwarves are not considered small. Gah, that's going to throw off my chances of tripping him this round.

Thanks for pointing that out!

So Neth and I have been invited to the folks' place for dinner. Will have to wait to finish posts until after dinner at their place or once we return, depending on their sociability levels....

(Also, turns out sorcerers don't need a high CHA in BGII. I just realized this. My INT is 12, but I'm too far in to want to start over again. I am shamed.)

With a sigh, Ryn once again discards tactics. The barbarian's already losing, and he already made him mad enough; he doesn't need to shame him further. His saber flashes around in another slash at his wounded opponent.
I've been resisting the urge to just ride around the damn ring, waiting for the rage to end or him to fall off his horse, since the last round before he could hit back. And that's not even the most absurd tactic I'd contemplated Not very martial of a tactic though.

On another note, I'm sorely tempted to hire this guy. He's a tough SOB, with more HP then me or Doroga (maybe combined, who knows) . We could put him in front of the druid and the mage, and they can use him as tough mobile cover.

Oh, and for future reference, when we're done, I did intend to use a charge on my belt, helping to heal him (to ease hard feelings) and invite him to join me for a beer at the tavern when the melee's over (I intend to extend that same offer to the other combatants in the melee as well, regardless who wins).

For a minute, I was trying to figure out how you did so much freaking damage there, Key. I forgot power attack doubles it's damage output if you are using a two-handed weapon.

I'm suddenly considering it for the future... Nicely done if you finish the fight right there!

Though this might be premature, thanks. I certainly hope I finish him off this round. I don't need more holes in me when I switch to you and the dwarf.

Have replied to everyone. Also, the Dirty Melee posts will now be incorporated in the main posts.

G'night folks! Expect more in the late afternoon/early evening tomorrow.

Also, Kudos to Keylac for offing two opponents at the same time in parallel timestreams. (nerdsnort)

So, I learned a while ago that it was bad for roleplaying to read other people's posts if my character was not present. I've gotten into that habit pretty hard, but in this case I feel like it may be a problem.

So, does anyone want to summarize what's been happening with you melee-types?

Sure.

I started up a mounted swordplay contest against an Uthgardt. Rather then wait for that to finish before we moved onto the dirty melee, which Doroga was participating in as well, we stepped into the future and started running them together. It makes sense, since that one was going to start right after the mounted combat, and I was going to be healed even if I lost.

As far as what happened, in the mounted combat I won on the 6th round, and have been rewarded, so time has now reverted to normal.

In the dirty melee, it's me, Doroga, a dwarf, and a half-elf beating on each other. I just took out the half-elf - this spawned TSM's comment, since the Uthgardt was finished off in the same posting. The dwarf is getting his butt kicked by Doroga, so we'll have to see what happens from there.

Sorry folks! No post tonight. Work and cooking and sleep have eaten all my time. Rest assured though, I got some important work done on the campaign (NPCs, flow-charts, a spell, some other stuff) and will be back to posting tomorrow afternoon for suresies.

OH! Dragonsong: It seems Roen is under the impression that the Drow attack "tonight", when the note from the drow via the dead Rider in fact stated "tomorrow night". So, you have tonight and tomorrow until sundown, or the drow "go to town" so to speak. If it was my miss-typing I am deeply, deeply sorry. If it was not, well... I'll let it go this time... THIS time...

See you all tomorrow!

Hey everybody. Thanks for your comments about my drawing, I'm glad you approve! You have encouraged me to continue.

I had a quick question, but I'm not sure who can answer. I was hoping to post while TSM was at work because I've got other things to do later, but I'm wondering if I'm supposed to/allowed to react to Roen walking through the inn door. In other words, has that just happened, or will it only happen after my current posting phase is done? I'm sorry it this is something the DM is suppose to answer... in which case I'll wait till I can ask him. I just thought it might be a general rule that everyone besides me already knew the answer to.

I think it's appropriate to react to it. If you want to interact directly, I would suggest approaching as if you would in real life. Are you going to try and run up and get to him before he starts doing whatever he was doing, cut him off half-way through, or wait until he's finished?

The DM tends to try and shoehorn it in as best he can. It can sometimes get a little sloppy, but usually it's just fine. Really, it's sort of an unavoidable side effect of play by post, but most folk just roll with it best they can.

Awesome, thank you. I was just wondering if the order of things happening was extremely important, and determined by round of play, like in combat or something... but TSM told me basically what you said, and added that it doesn't really matter so much with these character interactions as it does with movement in battle. I wasn't intending to interrupt him or anything, I just wanted to know whether I was allowed to notice him approaching yet or not till next 'round'. You see I'm so paranoid of doing something very very against the rules that I'm starting to imagine rules that might exist and asking before I break them.

By the way, I'd like to ask if Roen has any markings that make it clear he was born a Shebali? Is there anything about the appearance of anyone's character that would reveal their specific homeland, or something else significant, besides the obvious? Because I'm guessing an easterner, for instance, could make themselves indistinguishable from other easterners if they wanted. At the moment Neth wears things (beads, trinkets, clothing styles) with designs that would mark someone as from Rashemen, and one or two would show the specific clan. I'm just curious how much we'll be able to discern about each other. I'm very excited, if you couldn't tell.

Hm... Well, Roen isn't entirely Shebali; his father was Illuskan. That leaves him with a combination of features somewhere between Mongolian (as the Shebali are descended from the Arkaiun nomads of the East, this is always how I imagined them) and Nordic, with somewhat dusky skin. It was a common practice in early slaveholding cultures to identify slaves by a "clipped ear," a small cut through the top of the ear, and the Dambrathans are nasty enough to go for that sort of thing. If you think it'll add character, by all means, go for it.

Thanks again for wanting to draw him! I can't wait to see what you come up with.
