No, it was Donna after she became the Doctor Donna. Its been a while, but I don't remember Handy doing too much in that part.

It was more the Doctor's conversation with Colonel Runaway and Madame Kovarian after that. The Doctor was terrifying.

The dalek begging for mercy never really bothered me all that much, oddly enough. Sure, it's seems counter to everything we ever see of them (although the series has been humanizing them more and more since the show was revived), but then you have to remember that it's River. The Doctor chooses his friends carefully, as he puts it, and they don't hold a candle to the Doctor when it comes to darkness and ruthless malice.

River doesn't fit that pattern, though. She's more like the Master, someone the Doctor would never associate with if it were not for his own crippling survivor's guilt and loneliness. She's a violent, self-professed psychopath who is far more ready with a sidearm than the Doctor finds comfortable, but her obsession with the Doctor leads her to channel it in "good" ways.

In short, River may very well be every bit as terrifying to the Daleks as the Doctor himself, but with one very specific caveat: the Doctor doesn't like to kill. Oh, he will, but he never likes it - or, perhaps more accurately, he's afraid of liking it. He often even tries to save his most hated enemies at the last moment, though they rarely take him up on it. River isn't like that - she represents all the terror of the Doctor without the restraint.

And then the Dalek killed the only thing that had ever restrained her. Yeah, begging for mercy sounds like a proper thing to do, especially when you're the only Dalek in existence at that point. Survival at any cost, remember?

---

Now that I've seen the trailer you've been talking about, however, I'm less interested in the Daleks and more interested in the Doctor's speech about how he intends to honor "everyone who's suffered and died because of my mercy" and Amy's response of "This is what happens when you travel alone."

I love the sections that show the pain the Doctor is really in (Dalek, School Reunion, parts of the Season 3 finale, End of Time, Amy's Choice, The God Complex, Closing Time). It's easy to see the Doctor as a swashbuckling hero who has a heart of teflon, and all the pain and loss just slides off him, but the moments when you see how false that image of him is are his finest moments, if you ask me. That's why, while I like all the doctors, 9 is my favorite (11 is quickly closing in on that, though).

8/10, don’t want to be nasty to 8 year olds but it was not as good as “Death is the Only Answer” (which was awesome).

CORRECTION: 5/10, an insult to the angels, why oh why is their threat wasted!

Sunken Valley returns on Aug 25/Sep 1 to tackle Asylum of the Daleks and what ever gems Dr Who Season 7 has to offer.

NO WAIT! Sunken Valley will/may return earlier for a special feature. Joy! No one? Ah well.

Also Season 7 will have 14 episodes. Excluding Christmas Special. 5 this year. 8 next year.

PS: I know I'm on the first page but I should get on the OP Andro.

Hey! I was mean to eight-year-olds, well, I held their work to the same standards as professional writers which is both mean and yet respectful in a sense.
Still, I more or less agree with you on the points you raised.

Lulwut. 8/10 for that piece of cheese? Judge them fairly, it's not nastiness, just honest assessment.

If you compare it to some of the winners of the "500 Words" competition it's evident that some 8-year olds can write stuff a lot better than Good as Gold.

Question to see if I'm losing my mind.

A few weeks ago, looking at the new season trailers on Youtube, I saw an episode list. Including one called Merlin, with Colin Morgan.

Unfortunately, "Doctor Who Merlin" punched into Google shows nothing but a load of fanfic.

So consider this wild speculation based off one person's memory until there's corroborating evidence. But potentially cool.

So Asylum of the Daleks is premeriming tomorrow at the British Film Institute. So it should be back on our screens pretty soon.
And now to active detective skills. This Saturday's Shedule already exist, and it isn't Who. 25th August does have a "TBA" on BBC 2 which is about the correct length of time, but Who is broadcast on BBC 1 so I feel that's something else. Thus I believe it'll be the 1st September.

I get bored easily so I went deeper on my detective work on figuring out the broadcast date. BBC America's Schedule for 1st September has them showing the entirety of series 6 and Christmas special with an hour long gap before the next show. so yhea pretty confident in my prediction.

I lived a few years in Cambridge and must say, the weather was altogether livable and not too rainy at all...now on the other hand, i'm sat here in my shorts blessing the airconditioning which is keeping me from melting away..so, no sympathy there, from me

I was thinking more of the implausible changeability of it rather than just the cold eg. bright and sunny now but in 5 minutes it could easily be raining/hailstoning, then sunbathing weather when I leave work. Have to take a waterproof to work every day just in case.

And as for locals, as long as you aren't in London they could always be worse.

On topic: do we know how many episodes River is appearing in, and if she's expected in any after Rory & Amy leave?

We finally have an official broadcast date
In other news the audio book version of Creature From the Pit, read by Tom Baker, is being broadcast on radio 4 extra starting Thursday, expect me to say that they are alright at some point.

Edit:just remembered an idea I had, would anyone be interested in doing some live chatting via irc or some similar method?

Edit 2 - Edit Harder: I'm terrible and keep finding stuff I should post to this thread. Starting on Monday a 5 part mini-series called Pond Life, Karren and Arthur talk a bit about it
Oh and Moffat talks about blink & weeping angels

Edit 3 - With a Vengeance: US Trailer if you care.
