Or in the case of Sairyu it allows the wielder to control the darkness... and we have to fight the wielder...

I should stop giving him ideas...

So he took the job, with out saying as much to Madeline, of course. That and being in his late thirties gives him plenty of experience to bring to the table, I guess.

So I've been investigating Fire Emblem: Awakening and the tactics look very, very interesting... Have I mentioned that I will be getting a 3DS just for this one game?

I dunno about the story (Perhaps Kasanip can give us an opinion?), but everything else looks good (minus the enemies... I'd rather not fight amorphous blobs)

Is that the one where you make your own unit and stuff? Because even though I don't really like the DS sprites, I want it for that alone. Some part fof me thought that "Tactician" stuff from FE7 was a gimmick to sucker players in, but the other part if me was rightly suckered in and enjoyed being talked to by the characters.

Also: Mortimer's Plot Hook is fine.

You can also make your own unit in two fire emblems: 12 and 13. IMO the sprites of 13 are way better than 11s and 12s they are much more anime like.

The one thing I am a bit cautious about is that there are literally dozes of DLC characters...

Edit: Actually the art of 13 is anime...

The sprites are almost done.

I can't seem to get his eyes to not look mad creepy when I make them green. Someone help me out on that front? I've supplied the necessary colors.

Also: I had to perform some kind of unspeakable voodoo thing to get the robes to be a white color that wouldn't blind someone.

That was more trouble than it looked to be.

EDIT: I wonder if he actually is taller than Tyra, like he's suppsoed to be...

Just barely. Success!

Oh divines he looks amazing! Thank you so much :D!

Edit: I am curious though, can you post him with your version of green eyes? He will be creepy to reinforce some simple health principles:

(In creepy German/Russian voice)

"Allz betterz now? Good! Now don't get hurtz again it'z bad for your healtz. You wouldn't wantz to make Dokta Death angry again by rupturingz your spleen againz."

He doesn't speak like that all the time, just when he wants to amuse himself... and terrify his rash allies

Acanous: Yes, but 12 wasn't released outside Japan, there's a fan translation project going on, so I am waiting for it to be completed so I can get my FE fix!

@Sairyu,

So, I've been wondering about more aspects of this world.

First, what is the name of the continent encompassing Farin, Hiroth and Berca? For example, we have Elibe in FE6 and FE7, as well as Magvel in FE8. I don't think I've ever seen any reference to the name of the continent in our setting, though.

Second, Kasanip has had Madeline recite prayers in Japanese, and I've had Falcon say a couple of words in the same, assuming that it is at the very least an obscure dialect of Berca in the setting. What is the actual status of languages in the continent though? Does everyone use the same language in this continent with Madeline's prayers being made in a ritual language exclusive to the Nalban Church like Latin IRL? Or does each country have its own language, and everyone is just using a common language to communicate, with Madeline's prayers being the first and only example we've seen so far of a region-specific language? For that matter, what IS the name of Madeline's prayer language? I'm assuming it's NOT "Japanese".

Third question. This one has persisted throughout FE history, and it has had many different answers between the games. Therefore, it's well worth asking the question again, but if you're intending to keep it a secret plot point for the time being, you don't have to answer it now.

What is the Fire Emblem?
I'm not a linguist by any stretch, so don't expect many/any actual translations of these things. Because of the countries' close proximity and the heavy interaction (during the War against the Dark and the following war), there's a lot of language/culture bleed, so there 'is' a rough form of common language, called, unimaginatively, Common.

If you want the real-life counterparts, Hiroth would be a German-Italian blend, Farin is straight English, and Berca is mainly a bastardized of German-Italian-Romanian*.

The Churches have their own nomenclature, with Osulia using traditional Latin and Nalba using Japanese. Berca's plains-dwellers may be more acquainted with the ritual-language of Nalba, but city-dwellers are, in general, ignorant. In Hiroth, Latin is the language of academia; the educated are well versed, but the common church-goer will be familiar with at least the most common phrases.

The continent is Erena. It's actually the file-name for the map in the Recruitment thread.

The Fire Emblem is a lost Nalban relic.

*Because of the extremely close ties between Berca and Hiroth during the War, there is widespread Hirothi corruption of the original Bercan tongue. There are some Nalban terms thrown in, but they're mainly holdovers from when the Nalban church had more influence rather than anything current.

Gotcha. In that case, I will continue to treat Madeline's prayer language as what I've assumed it to be until now; a Bercan 'mother tongue' that's only used in any frequency by the Nalban Church these days.

FE 12 was a remake of FE3, it just added some extra content including a "My Unit," however it is regarded as much superior to FE 11 in terms of being a remake. FE13 is technically in Akaneia, but very far into the future, so it stands on its own.
If you want an overview of FE13 here's some pretty good videos (but in japanese)

I'll keep that thanks .

Perhaps if a darker tone of green was used he wouldn't look so radioactive/necromantic?

Edit: Actually would it be possible to take his creepy mug and make him appear tired/exhausted?

If you're referring to FE12 and FE13, know that FE12 is not going to be released outside of japan. FE13 is some time early 2013, but that can change. Aside from that, yeah, FE13 was a main reason I got a 3DS so I'm pretty excited for it to.

@Sairyu,

Yes, I think we're pretty much agreed on that plan.

I think you may want to add the lore on the languages into the OP.

And will the Fire Emblem be an important plot device in this game? Yes, No, or No Comment?

Out of curiosity, here's a categorisation of party members by nationality, just as a point of interest. Retired characters are marked in red, while future members will be marked in green.

Farin: Lloyd, Callum, Hugo

Hiroth: Nina, Roland, Paris (?), Durnock, Adele, Aramel, Erinn (?), Reyn, Fiona

Berca: Imeena, Madeline, Falcon, Nain, Tyra, Semaj, Mortimer

Unknown: Argoth, Wotan, Oren

Putting aside the 3 enigmas, the current party make-up is dominated by Hirothi, who weigh in at 5 members, and may reach a total of 8. Bercans and Farins weigh in at 3 members each, but the Bercans may find their ranks boosted to twice that number by incoming recruits.

In conclusion, the Farins are woefully under-represented currently, as I have been suspecting.

Hmmm.

He aims to keep it that way. I really need to work on bringing out his inner turmoil, but Madeline getting incapacitated this map should be a good catalyst for that.

I am familiar with the table, but I am not sure what you mean: Is it a place where everyone discusses issues as equals?

Why is everyone all of a sudden looking at me shocked? Oh right... my bad... but I was just stating the facts... and come on...and some of you do go after the brooding, scarred types... Oh yes... I know..."

Wow.. that was a lot more than I was expecting to write. Anyway, Hugo and Mortimer would make for interesting support conversations... On one side you have a young man, largely inexperienced in romance, who wishes to heal the world. On the other hand you have someone who had a full filling relationship, lost everything and is now extremely bitter... Oh and they both have dark affinity...

I am familiar with the table, but I am not sure what you mean: Is it a place where everyone discusses issues as equals?

*Off to read the history of the nations so that he knows conflicts better*
I'd suggest asking Water and Wind?

Also more analysis!

God, it took forever to figure out why the update's [ img ]s were all broken. Aparantly photobucket is randomly adding character strings to the end of uploaded file names now... what the heck?

Ugh... but Turn 13's update is posted.

Wow, what a traffic jam we have going. This was why I wanted Callum to go south...

Anyway, preliminary plan for the next turn.

Imeena to C-K10, takes a Vulnerary.

Wotan to C-J10, Visits and Buys an Iron Sword to be Traded to Imeena next turn.

Argoth attacks Archer #16.

Oren backs off to C-G7, takes a Vulnerary.

Paris takes a Vulnerary, Waits.

Roland to C-E9, attacks Archer #16, cantos to C-E7.

Now, I cannot devise a way to make Argoth advance even if Archer #16 dies, so what I think needs to happen is, we need to make use of Linia to provide fire support.

Adele to C-G7, takes a Vulnerary, asks Linia to advance and support Argoth.

Durnock to C-F5.

The two-pronged cavalry attack is not going to happen. Callum to C-K6, shouts at Lenz to follow him.

Falcon and Lloyd Waits.

I don't have anything better in mind. How does this sound?
