For reasons unknown even to myself, I want to play a Nyss Field Mechanic/???

Well, you could try Military Officer to take the leadership role, with your Jack doing your heavy lifting. Or you can really focus on crafting with Alchemist or Arcane Mechanik. Or you can really focus on Jacks with Warcaster.
